By the time Reg Uhr was back on the Suttor and Bowen in 1866, Philip Sellheim had walked off Strathmore and Cuthbert Fetherstonhaugh had lost the Hermitage to his creditors. Yet in his ruin Fethers found consolation.
For though I had money, labour, and to some extent, health, I had in a most extraordinary manner in 1865, while at The Hermitage, found that which is of a thousandfold greater value than riches, success and health all put together. I had found myself, I had found my own soul, and I had found God.
So many of his sins were now clear to him. But not on the list in his memoirs was the massacre of Aborigines.

Meekness
Artist: Pompeo Batoni (Italian, 1708–1787)
Date: 1752
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Collection: National Trust Collections, United Kingdom
Description
This is an allegorical representation of one of the eight Beatitudes, from the Sermon on the Mount. It and its companion were commissioned in Rome by Sir Matthew Fetherstonhaugh of Uppark, when on the Grand Tour with his wife and some of their relatives. The idea may have come from one of them, his clergyman brother, Utrick, subsequently Rector of Harting.
"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" is symbolised by a woman gazing gently at the lamb she holds on her lap. This animal is the traditional symbol of that virtue, but also implies an allusion to Christ as the Lamb of God.

So I've been showing my sister Murdoch Mysteries, and now she's convinced that the writers hate her specifically for the following reasons:
-Tucker
-Not letting Watts be happy
-Not letting Emily be happy
-Or Violet
-Broke up BOTH George/Emily and George/Edna
-made Milo Strange into a jerk
-Watts' adoptive brothers being murdered
-Her girl Anna Fulford not appearing in the Harry Fulford 4-parter
-The fact that Arthur Carmichael failed to kill Maurice Majors and Maurice is still alive
-Slugger Jackson being killed off
-Have a whole episode about Dracula but the writers have clearly never read Dracula and it shows
-Enid still attracted to Murdoch even AFTER he was a jerk who put her son in danger
-Walt Whitman the peacock only appearing in one episode
-Terrence Meyers' kids also only appearing in one episode
-Roger Newsome being TRAGICALLY killed off 😭 (and replaced by his lesser totally-not-exactly-the-same-character brother???)
-The fact that Rupert and Dickie Fetherstonhaugh were NOT secretly having an affair (and the letters weren't actually meant for Rupert)
-Not changing the entire show from a cop show into a PI show when Inspector Edwards showed up
-Bobby Brackenreid not coming out (of jail? Of the closet? Unclear.)
-The fact that the main gang will NEVER end up getting a canon groupchat 😔
-Margaret Brackenreid settling for a stupid ass annoying husband instead of becoming a lesbian witch like she was always meant to (actual misogyny)
-Not confirming that Dr. Dixon was secretly Darcy Garland reincarnated
-Leslie Garland x James Gillies STILL not canon???
-Eva Pearce having an obsession with Murdoch and NOT Julia (Homophobia??)
-Anna Fulford x Freddie Pink ALSO still not canon??
-Dr. Ogden existing

Lady Hamilton & Horatio Nelson: Emma Carew (part 32)
Lady Hamilton & Horatio Nelson: Emma Carew (part 32)
Emma Hart – or Carew as she became known – was the first daughter of Emma Hamilton, born in 1782.The identity of her father is uncertain, but itwas probably Sir Henry Fetherstonhaugh, the dissolute dandy who had abandoned his lover, enraged that she had become pregnant.Greville agreed to take her in as a mistress on condition that she send the child away, and set out to transform ‘the wild…

In the aftermath, Uhr reported to Marlow "shooting six blacks for murder of shepherd". In his memoirs, Fetherstonhaugh put the number higher:
We all started off on our punitive expedition. These fellows tracked the blacks with ease. They put the number down at about twenty from the tracks, including gins. We white men could not see sign of a track till after we had been a week after them. In one place we were crossing a rocky river, and I asked a Murray black, called Capito, an old fellow, what he was following. He pointed to where a black had spit out something he had been chewing, and sure enough others had also been chewing and spitting.
Our trip was quite a picnic. We did about ten miles a day, tracking all the time. Sometimes, of course, off the scent and delayed. No one watched at night, and if the blacks had been about and been game, they could have easily crept on us in the dark. I asked Uhr if this had ever happened. He said only once, and then the wild blacks were led by two runaway black troopers and they pretty well wiped out the police camp. The troopers cooked good food for us and most delicious "beggars on the coals," sort of Johnny cakes.
After doing about one hundred miles on the tenth day, as Capito and I were riding in the lead in open scrub country, suddenly he leaned down on his horse and went off as hard as he could, I after him. He had sighted the "myalls." We galloped into them m they were running in all directions. The gins lay down, one was shot by mistake. We shot down two blackfellows and got through them and turned back. A shot from one of our fellows hit my horse in the chest – no harm done. In a few minutes all the blacks, twelve of them, were shot. If one or two tried to fight they had no chance . . .
We sat down, and it seemed very cold blooded that with some of the dead blacks lying close to us, and the gins scowling at us from a little distance off, we ate and enjoyed our pot of tea and our dinner.

Vandalian Tower, Uppark, West Sussex
Vandalian Tower, Uppark, West Sussex
High on the Sussex Downs, near the village of South Harting, stand some curious ruins. The jagged and dilapidated stonework is all that remains of the wonderful ornate tower built by Sir Matthew Fetherstonhaugh of Uppark (or Up-park) in the 1770s and later known by the curious title of the Vandalian Tower. Architecture in Montréal (No. 5)
This Art Deco building, designed by architect Harold Lee Fetherstonhaugh, was built in 1928 by the Hanson Brothers Company, a brokerage firm.
The offices of the Hanson Brothers Building originally occupied three of the four floors. In 1949, the Hanson Brothers rented the three lower floors to a major insurance company, but they were still present on the top floor of the building until its sale in 1953. One year later, the building was purchased by the London Insurance Co. which occupied the whole building until 1976. Since then, the vocation of the building remained unchanged, today it still houses offices.

The Canada Life Building in Montreal is a Renaissance Revival building completed in 1895 by Buffalo, New York architect Richard A. Waite and is an example of a first-generation skyscraper.
Located in the heart of what was once Canada's financial capital on St. James Street, in what is now Old Montreal, the Canada Life Building was the first in Montreal to utilize an eight-storey steel structure.
