•ABORTION • I had a patient. Let's call her Casey. She was married, excited to start a family. When she became pregnant she was overjoyed. She was a healthy young woman - no need for the early testing indicated for higher risk pregnancies. At her 20 week ultrasound it became clear that part of her baby's brain wasn't forming right. If she continued through the pregnancy and gave birth to this baby he would have died slowly and painfully after birth, hooked up to machines, away from his mother. She decided to have an abortion. It was the most gut wrenching thing she has ever experienced, and I held her in my office, hugged her, wiped away her tears. I couldn't tell her everything was going to be alright because it wasn't - her baby was going to die one way or another. Her own flesh, her child, her most beloved. But I could tell her with certainty that at 20 weeks, at 22, 23, even 24 weeks, her baby would feel no pain during an abortion. Fetuses don't feel pain. They can't. They don't have the neural pathways in place. Read my blog post in the link below for a much more in depth conversation about this. Know the facts. Listen to scientists, listen to parents. Abortion is not murder, it does not cause fetuses pain. #abortionislove #abortion #20weekabortionban #dontletthishappen #fetalanomaly #pregnancyloss #secondtrimesterabortion #abortionisaright #abortionisnotmurder #anortionishealthcare
