I feel that Iyami’s Festmatsu outfit hasn’t gotten the attention it deserved and it’s a pity because just look at it:

adding on to the circus au (bc holy shit i love)... oso can be the ringmaster, ichi can be the lion (cat) tamer, jyushi can possibly be the strongman or the sword swallower (??), and totty can be the ribbon dancer (idk who choro would be). and mayb some of the other characters (like dayon) could have their own acts? i'm getting a whimsical, funky traveling circus vibe from this one haha.

Totoko's voice actress messed up a line at one of the FestMatsu table reads and yelled that she wants a girlfriend, and judging from the way the cast just rolled with it I say it's canon now, no takesy-backsies

As for fesmatsu, I know I reblogged a few 2018 posts here awhile back under the tag “fes matsu”. For 2016, @libellen seems to have translations! They use the tag “festmatsu”

Fes Matsu San'16 Programme Translation Part 11: Kokuryu Sachi Interview (Chibita)

Please tell us you feelings after finishing recording the final episode.

There’s a strange calm within like the one after a typhoon has passed. While I feel sad that those noisy guys are no longer there, I have complex feelings about wanting the sextuplets both to grow up more or plow on ahead just as they are now. Regarding Karamatsu, I starting to view him from the perspective of a parent after episode 5’s The Karamatsu Incident so those feelings are strong.

What do you like about Chibita?

Chibita is the only one with principles surrounded by a bunch of people with not a decent one amongst them. He has a proper job and he’s a good guy who lets the sextuplets eat for free. In the second half of the series, he’s stopped asking them to pay back the tab hasn’t he lol.

What episode left an impression on you?

Episode 15’s The Life of Chibita’s Flower. The mature Chibita whom I’d wondered what was like was depicted in this episode. Also, after seeing Karamatsu’s flower, I thought, “I’m really glad my flower is cute.”

If the show were to continue, what episode would you like to see?

Chibita is the only one who hasn’t had an 8 heads tall form so I’d like to see a handsome Chibita. He’s a pretty decent guy inside so it seems like he’d be cool and attractive. I’d like to see a 8 heads tall Hijirisawa Shounosuke probably too lol.

Who is your favourite Matsu?

It’s Ichimatsu. When Ichimatsu left home in episode 24’s B part, my feelings as a girl came out and I thought, “Who’s he going to relay on?” Lol. I’m glad the one I like is a cat.

What was it like at the recording studio?

Kamiya and Irino were very boisterous. Once, Kamiya put all of Irino’s personal items into the gaps in the sofa while he was out of his seat lol. Ono, Nakamura and Endo watched this very calmly while making small talk and Sakurai occasionally commented on it.

What is the charm of the Osomatsu-San world?

Perhaps people admire how it destroys the logic and etiquette that normal people are bound by and plows on ahead. Why girls are so infatuated with such undeniable scum is a mystery. I guess their maternal instincts make them feel they have to do something for these NEETs who are only able to live in a clumsy way. This is probably an anime supported by maternal instinct lol.

This is the first event I’ve ever been so unsure of what will happen at. It would be good if you could enjoy this powerful worldview but still be able to work hard tomorrow without being polluted by the scummy NEETs.

Fes Matsu San'16 Programme Translation Part 10: Suzumura Kenichi Interview (Iyami)

What are your feelings now that the broadcast has finished?

Even the final recording simply ended smoothly with a, “See you again,” so I don’t feel like it’s over at all. But the recording was fun so I do feel very sad. If asked, “What did Osomatsu achieve in its run?” well it didn’t archive anything at all which I think is good and very like this anime. I think that if a gag anime makes you laugh out loud a lot, that’s all it needs. And speaking personally, it was an honour to voice the legendary character Iyami.

What is the charm of the Osomatsu-San world?

That it’s unrivalled. Isn’t it amazing how there’s no story? That whatever happens, the story somehow holds together is due to the broad mind of Akasaka Fujio or perhaps to the free and experimental nature of his works.

Which episode left an impression on you?

I like episode 22’s Final She. Iyami was in the Jackie Chan role. I’m part of the generation that were fans of Jackie Chan so I was very happy to portray that kind of drama. Also, I remember the people from the industry saying, “I can’t laugh at this,” then staying quiet with episode 20 Iyami’s School.

Your memories of the recording?

In episode 22 Final Sheeeh, I did the longest sheeeh in the series at 16 seconds lol!

Would you like to have a sibling relationship like the sextuplets?

Not at all! There’s not one good guy amongst them and I wouldn’t want anything to do with them!

It’s rare for the cast to be assembled in full force so I hope you enjoy it. And if there are any NEETs in the audience, I’d like to praise them with, “You did well getting this far!” Don’t become like the sextuplets lol.

What were you conscious of when playing Iyami?

The sextuplets make you laugh in a surreal way and have a modern kind of humour but Iyami is a Showa gag character so his humour is more like, “Putting your heart and soul into shouting it out.” But even for the nonsensical seeming, “Sheeeh!” I tried to perform it while carefully considering why is he saying sheeeh here and what feeling is going in to it when reading the script. Additionally, there was a sense of tension in situations which required sheeeh to be said so the recordings required concentration.
