omg I’ve been rewatching The Haunting of Bly Manor for the 80th time with @hekateinhell and last night we finished episode 5 and we’re both ugly crying and talking about how hurt we are and I was telling her like, ugly crying at media makes me thrive bc I think it’s such a joy to be that moved by someone’s amazing writing, and I told her how I hope I can write something that can make someone ugly cry, and then I got this anon MINUTES later! 🥹

I hope you liked it! I really struggled with that fic and I’m still a little unhappy with it 🫣 so it means the world to me that you checked in and let me know it was working. I was really inspired by the confession/goodbye message in The Blair Witch Project and I kept crying while I was brainstorming and imagining it 😂

Lots of weird and wonderful things wash up in storms and end up in your yard and pond. Its a simple fact one comes to expect when living right next to the beach. Still, finding a rather large mermaid/merman stuck in your pond amongst other debris, is definitely a new record for weird shit you’ve found after a storm.

So imagine after the previous ask, Shiro is very aware that mermen exist and probably really wants to find one and have a conversation. All the people of the village think she’s just making things up though, Shiro is always coming up with wild ideas and experiments and clearly this whole thing about how she saw a merperson is another one of those. Shiro herself even begins to question it at some point, like she knows she saw Hisui but people keep telling her that it was just a fish, she was just hallucinating from the cold of the water, and besides all her attempts at finding additional evidence of the merman’s existence so far have failed.

That’s when there’s another storm and Shiro has to stay inside until it passes. When morning comes she heads down to the beach to see if anything interesting washed up and is shocked to see a green fish tail sticking out from under some debris. Shiro moves everything out of the way and finds Hisui all wrapped up in a random fishing net. Hisui’s unconscious but Shiro recognizes the tail as the merman who saved her. Imagine Hisui has some kind of injury that makes it difficult for him to swim initially, kinda how his canon self has to be in the wheelchair, so Shiro decides to take him home and now Hisui gets to live in her bathtub until he’s healed. Of course they’re both super interested in each other, Hisui has always been curious about the surface world and Shiro has all sorts of questions about the world under the sea and merman physiology. As Hisui starts to heal though they have to decide what to do going forward, because Hisui isn’t supposed to show himself to humans and Shiro is worried that if the other people in the village find out about merpeople Hisui could be in danger.
