It's been months. Kanaya is a constant presence in your life, the star that you orbit. She is joy and laughter and quiet comfort; the reason to keep living. Nepeta is with you as well, a voice in your head, if not always in your ears.

There's only one who is absent.

Icy water laps at your feet. You can feel it for the first time; the strength of the waves behind you, the salty tang in your nose. You click your teeth, just to sample the taste. The sea is strange, alien even to the traveler you've become. The locale, however, is familiar.

A shipwreck disguised as a hive, or a hive inside a shipwreck, lays before you. Its foreboding has diminished since you were here last, even as its presence has gotten stronger. This is the first time you've seen it through living eyes.

And it's empty.

You've searched the place, top to bottom, and found nothing; no sign of her. No messages that failed to send on her computer, no indications of a long leave of absence.

Your kismesis is gone. She's disappeared without a trace.

There's something very sad in that, you think, even if she was someone who deserved no pity. A murderer, a manipulator, a schemer, and yet she still tried to claim supremacy.

Seadwellers.

Her hold on you, however, could never be denied. You wonder if she's sinking her hooks in someone else, wherever she is. For the time being, you'll keep faithful. No need to let anyone know your black quadrant is open.

You debate leaving the journal you stole from her, but in the end you decide to keep it. Something to remember her by, you suppose.

You let out a breath, and the ocean air stings your nostrils. There are storm clouds overhead, and you need to leave soon.

"Goodbye, Ampora."

The hive is quiet after that, with only the sound of waves crashing against rock to hint that there was once life there.
