idea for the carnation au. Luffy hears that people generally give their girlfriends jewelry and goes ‘oh!! I must give Koby jewelry Right Now Immediately!!’ except she’s obviously not going to go buy something. she’s broke. Nami has all the money. so instead Luffy decides that she’s just going to have to do it herself! and this ends with Koby being gifted the shittiest woven bracelet of all time (it was supposed to be pink and green flowers but it kind of looks like a hairball because Luffy is terrible at crafts that require patience, but by god did she try her best). Koby wears it religiously and the one time someone suggested she remove it is one of the few times anyone has seen her legitimately glare.

ANYWAYS WHERE WAS I. yes the girls. their first meeting is an absolute disaster, as we’ve established, but now they’re both Rather Attached to each other, and as they head to Shells Town, they get to bond a bit! Koby isn’t really going to lose that hero-worship ‘she’s an angel in human form’ mindset until later, so right now it’s mostly Luffy bragging about how strong she is, Koby getting nervous because she’s incredibly weak and oh no what if Luffy is disappointed? and instead of being annoyed that she’s weak, Luffy just… immediately vows to protect her from Everything and Everyone until she’s strong enough to do it herself.

fellas, Koby practically swoons.

also Luffy is the taller of the pair because I said so. Koby probably gets a little taller, but it ain’t by much, she’s like 5’5 to her Amazonian-built gf’s 6’6 (a rough estimate at best. I am terrible at estimates.). listen I just think it’s really funny for post timeskip Koby to still be a short pink lass, but now she’s a short pink lass who also happens to be able to break an island in half if she so pleases.

somehow in the process of writing the first chapter of the carnation au, I managed to give Koby a mean and terrible aunt, so… we’re DEFINITELY making her backstory even worse. I don’t think it’s ever confirmed in canon as to whether Koby has/had parents or not, which means it’s free real estate and I do what I want. and apparently what I want is to traumatize the pink child!

ok so. the song is still here but so am I, and I’m here to expand on this before I have to go to work.

this is now a full AU and I’ve decided that Koby is eventually going to join the Straw Hats because I said so, but in the meantime she gets to be a preppy marine who is definitely not following any of the rules because half of them are human rights violations. I just have this really vivid image in my head of Koby and Luffy’s first meeting, wherein this panicked little cabin girl sees the Prettiest Girl She Has Ever Met standing in the kitchen, having apparently stowed away in a barrel. the funny part about this is that while Koby saw Luffy and immediately went ‘pretty’, Luffy is out here looking like a whole trash gremlin. her hair is choppy and probably hasn’t been washed in days, she’s still wearing the ratty button-up and denim shorts that look like they came from a donation bin, and best of all she’s got this old-as-hell straw hat jammed onto her head with the determination of a hoarder whose has no intention of giving up a single scrap of their trading card collection.

and that is who Koby looks at and goes ‘ill never be good enough for her :(‘

and it goes both ways! except Luffy, instead of lamenting the fact that her new paramour shall never love her, simply decides that she’s going to Romance(TM) Koby until the other girl agrees to become her Pirate Queen. luffy is not expecting this to take very long but by god she will succeed even if it takes three and a half decades to manage it.
