Titanoperdix felixi Zelenkov et al., 2023 (new genus and species)
(Type coracoid of Titanoperdix felixi, from Zelenkov et al., 2023)
Meaning of name: Titanoperdix = titan [in Greek] Perdix [genus of partridges including the gray partridge]; felixi = for Felix Yanovich Dzerzhinsky [Russian zoologist who passed away in 2015]
Age: Pleistocene (Gelasian)
Where found: Malye Goly, Irkutsk Oblast, Russia
How much is known: A fragmentary right coracoid.
Notes: Titanoperdix was a phasianid, a group that includes chickens, partridges, and turkeys. It appears to have been closely related to extant partridges in the genus Perdix, such as the gray partridge (P. perdix). However, it was much larger, being about the size of a male black grouse (Lyrurus tetrix).
Reference: Zelenkov, N., E. Palastrova, N. Martynovich, A. Klementiev, A. Sizov, and N. Volkova. 2023. A tiny duck (Sibirionetta formozovi sp. nov.), a giant grey partridge (Titanoperdix felixi gen. et sp. nov.), a new rail (Porzana payevskyi sp. nov.), and other birds from the Early Pleistocene of Baikalian Siberia. Biological Communications 68: 261–272. doi: 10.21638/spbu03.2023.406

“...I should like so much to perceive the beauty in nature, in people, in what they create, to delight in them, to perfect myself, because beauty and goodness are like two sisters. The asceticism that has fallen to my lot is so alien to me. I would like to be a father and put into the soul of a young creature everything good that is on the earth, to see how the rays of my love for it would produce a luxuriant blossom of the human soul....”
- Felix Dzerzhinsky
October 22 (9), 1905
(The discrepancy between dates is due to the differences between the czarist and modern Gregorian calendar)
(The statue is in Moscow and was designed by Grigory Zakharov. It was originally in front of the Lubyanka building but has since been taken apart, discarded, and recently put back up in front of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Building. This as part of the efforts of the current fascist government in Russia to co-opt heroes from the Soviet era, including Felix Dzerzhinsky)

A bust of Joseph Stalin was installed at the Mednoye memorial complex for victims of wars and repressions in Russia’s Tver region, reports online outlet 7×7, referencing Tver activist Daniil Korpusov. The memorial is at a site where both victims of Soviet repression and executed Polish prisoners of war are buried.
Monuments to Vladimir Lenin, Felix Dzerzhinsky, and Mikhail Kalinin are also being mounted in the complex. Korpusov’s photos show that the opening of the exhibition is scheduled for October 19. The Mednoye website has no information about the exhibition.
“Now the liars have become more skillful — they don't tear down monuments and force you to forget. They chatter on and on about it. And then, when ‘everything isn’t so black and white’ is at its climax, you can throw in the mustached ghoul. So that anyone who, by fate, ends up at a memorial site, won’t see the tragedy of thousands of ruined lives, but a multicolored hodgepodge," Korpusov wrote.
