Very short story - my TRR AU x Foreign Affairs mash up

Royalty moves in small circles and Isabella and Leo are questioning why their daughters have a sudden interest in attending Vancross ... there’s maybe 2 swear words overall so read at your warning

Isabella’s dark chocolate brown eyes slowly raised from the book she was reading, interrupted by the giggling of her two Eighteen year old daughters wagging a booklet and piece of paper in front of her, “Mama!” Alessandra grinned, “Vancross is doing an open day... can we go?!” followed by her sister immediately begging, “Please!?!” for added effect. The Laurentian Queen’s brow furrowed as she hesitantly took the documents from the Princesses who were almost giddy with anticipation. “Please mama...” Natalia clasped her hands together excitedly, “I think it would be really good for us... you know, future leadership and for the Kingdom!” Isabella wasn’t convinced, her almond eyes narrowed ever so slightly with doubt, “I’ll think about it... I’ll need speak with...” but before she could finish her sentence, Alessandra interrupted, “We already told Papa... he and Uncle Liam think it’s a great idea!” the Laurentian Crown Princess beamed. “Did they now?” Isabella’s left brow raised slightly in question, “I’ll take a look...” Something was definitely off with this picture and Isabella was ready to find out what.

“Jimena?” Isabella called to her Lady in Waiting as the Princesses merrily skipped out the door, waiting for them to leave as she continued quietly, “Can you find out all about this ‘Open Day’ and who is currently enrolled at Vancross for me before we entertain this...” Jimena began to laugh, “They want to go to the Vancross Institute?! Is that not where King Felipe threatened to send you when he found out you were spending a little too much time with a particular Crown Prince...” Isabella’s lips began to curl upwards, “Exactly... so why the hell do those two girls want to go to a diplomacy boarding school that is ran like a military camp? I doubt the reputation has changed much...” Jimena nodded, “I’ll make a few calls...” Isabella sighed heavily as she began to shake her head as she picked up her book once again, “What are those girls up to?”

Jimena returned with her findings a few hours later just before the Royal family sat down to dinner. “So mama...” Natalia spoke the ice on the Vancross subject, “Do you think Sasha and I can go? I mean...” she began to smile, “I’m sure we’ll learn something from the experience!” but Isabella didn’t speak as she picked up her knife and fork, her eyes rolling to the left as Leo chimed in replying to his daughters, “Don’t push your luck just yet... but it doesn’t sound like a terrible idea...” Rolling with it, Isabella began to giggle to herself, “Possibly not... after all it is a three day intensive course, there wouldn’t be much time to socialise...” Natalia nudged Alessandra under the table giddily as the Crown Princess pitched in, “Yeah... we think it would be good for both of us to have more of an understanding...”

“Uh... huh... An understanding of what exactly?” Isabella quizzed the twins carefully, “Forging political alliances, the fragility of diplomacy or decisive decision making and interpretation?” Both of them looked a little nervous but nodded, “Yes mama... all of that and Princess Dionne goes there - so we already know someone...” Isabella’s lips began to curl upwards as she turned to her husband with a mischievous smile and a subtle wink, “Well then... that’s great news, I was more concerned you’d want to be there because of Blaine Hayes and Alexei Vukoja...” watching the Princesses blush ever so slightly. Leo began to clench his jaw finally realising what the girls were up to as their mother continued, “I’m sure your father recalls the First sons of Ardona and Esherstein memorably from the last Eastern and Central European bloc gala we hosted...”

Leo’s eyes narrowed at the mention of the gala, remembering all too well watching the First Son of Ardona leaning against the ballroom wall as he flirted with Natalia brazenly in front of him and telling Leo that his mom still had the hots for the Rys brothers whilst drinking her fathers supply of Lythikos wine. “Over my dead body!” Leo exclaimed, “You’ll not be going anywhere if they are in attendance!” The girls expressions dropped immediately, both pouting and protesting, “That’s not fair!” trying their hardest to make their parents see it from their perspective, “Security will be everywhere, there’s curfews...” Natalia looked over her shoulder towards Javier who guarded the door, “Javier, please tell them the security detail will be fine?!” but Isabella stepped in quickly with a smile, “It’s fine mi querida... I’m sure...” she looked back toward Leo as she placed her hand gently on her daughters arm before returning her warm chocolate brown eyed gaze, “We can let you go... I’ve already made the arrangements...”

Leo’s brow furrowed immediately at the thought, listening to his daughters squealing with delight, “Sasha... Lia...Nico...” he barked nonchalantly, “I would like a word with your mother please... in private...” All three quietly pushed out their chairs, finding solace in the family room as Leo glared at the petite brunette, “What the fuck Bella?!” The Laurentian King growled, “They’re not going!” The more Leo’s face reddened with anger, the more Isabella couldn’t help herself laughing, “Do you honestly think I am that stupid...” she began to grin, “You and Liam shouldn’t have told them it would be a good idea before you spoke to me about it!” Leo quietened down, “I didn’t know it was somewhere for Royal and entitled brats to get together! Why did you tell them they could go?!” Isabella’s almond shaped eyes narrowed as she smiled, “Because... after speaking with the headmistress and a small donation, turns out that during the Open Day - the current students will be taken ‘off campus’ suddenly for a few days... so you tell me...” the Laurentian Queen grinned as she picked up her wine glass, “Is that a decent enough punishment that they may actually learn something?”

Leo sucked in his cheeks as he lifted his own glass, clinking it against Isabella’s, “Touché...” he began to chuckle, “Education’s important...” the former Cordonian Crown’s Prince’s sea green eyes flashed a dark forest green, “... and I’m sure those boys will be pretty disappointed that they’ll be unintentionally stood up...” The Laurentian Queen’s long dark eyelashes fluttered as she took a sip of her wine, her eyes locking onto her husband’s, “People will learn not to underestimate me...” Leo slowly began to grin as he rested his finger under the petite brunette’s chin, delicately tilting it upwards towards him, his voice low and gravelly, “I never do kitten...” As Leo gently placed his lips against Isabella, the Laurentian Queen giggled softly, “They forget we were young once... do you remember our sneaking around?” The Sandy haired Cordonian stared into his wife’s eyes longingly, becoming lost as his attention was drawn to the small specks of honey and caramel that flickered in the light, “...but there’s a difference beautiful...” Leo quietly spoke, “...You were always meant to be mine...”

When you close your eyes,

You can see the day rewind,

All the laughs and stupid fights,

Just like a party breaks at dawn,

It never stops for long.

A smile graced Alexis’ face as she walked the track, it wouldn’t be long until everyone one would arrive and the good news would be shared but also followed by the sad news. Angel was waiting with Dom and Leo in the pits watching Lexi slowly walk the track with her hands in the pocket of Angel’s hoodie, resting them on her tiny bump.

Every step she took memories replayed in her head, the good and bad. The track had been a place she called home for many years and she knew it always would be. There had been so much laughter shared in this place, so many arguments. This was where she grew up and learned so many important lessons in life.

Running her hand along the crumpled metal barrier as she wiped a tear away, looking up at the sky she smiled, knowing her dad was always watching over her and always will be.

When you're feeling empty,

I will be the fuel you need,

To keep on pushing on down the lonely street

And I'm always in the shack unseen.

Home like headlights on the lawn,

I'm never gone for long.

This was the place she came no matter what she was feeling, it always gave her a sense of belonging.

Never in a million years she thought she would be saying goodbye so soon, she knew it wouldn’t be permanent but she still had a sadness wash over her as she walked the final straight.

The track would always be there for her, over the years to come just like it had in the years that had passed.

Slowly she walked back into the pits and Angel pulled her into his arms kissing her head.

They both agreed that racing was just too much risk and neither of them wanted that, he knew this would be hard for her but he couldn’t wait to make new memories here once the baby was born.

“You okay querida?” He asked wiping the stray tears away.

“I will be” She smiled as everyone walked into the room.

The whole family was here, Leo, Dom, Bishop, Ez, Felipe, Xavier, Riley and Jay.

Leaning back into Angel, Lexi smiled at everyone.

“Okay so we have some news to share with you all and thought this would be the best place to share it” She grinned “We will have the next generation of Ryans Racing, well the first generation of Reyes Racing”

“I’m pregnant”

Everyone erupted and came over to hug both Lexi and Angel but then the room soon fell quiet.

“Wait does this mean you are retiring?” Xav asked once he pieced everything together.

“I’m not retiring Xavvy, but I am stepping back for a little while, I won’t be racing but I will still be doing the meets but we don’t want anything happening to this little one” Lexi nodded.

I will return don't you ever hang your head,

I will return in every song and each sunset,

Our memory is always within reach,

“I don’t want you to be sad that I am stepping back because I’m not” She smiled “You know me as soon as I can I will be back out on the track causing mayhem, I will return I always do”

For the next couple of hours everyone reminiscing the years spent at the track, going through photos.

“Your old man would be proud kiddo” Bishop smiled with tears in his eyes as he pulled Lexi in for a hug.

“Tio you will make me cry so don’t” She laughed. “One thing is for sure this little one will have one hell of a family”

Soon enough everyone had a drink of some sort in their hand waiting for Lexi to speak. Leaning against the ST, her smile was wide as she looked around the room at the people she called family. It didn’t matter if they were related by blood or speed, this was her family.

“Money will come and go. We know that. And it doesn’t matter if you are a quarter mile away or halfway across the world. The most important thing in life will always be the people in this room, right here, right now. Salud mi familia”

Suring Pelikula: Heneral Luna

I. PANIMULA

Ang pelikulang Heneral Luna ay isang historical at biographical film na naglalarawan sa mga dinanas ni Heneral Antonio Luna sa pamumuno sa Hukbong Sandatahan ng Republika ng Pilipinas laban sa mga Amerikano. Ito ay isinulat nina Henry Francia, E.A Rocha at Jerrold Tarog. Si Jerrold Tarog rin ang naging direktor ng pelikula at ito ay nagawa sa pamamagitan ng Artikulo Uno Productions at ni Fernando Ortigas.

“Bayan o sarili? Pumili ka!”, “Mayroon tayong mas malaking kaaway kaysa mga Amerikano, ang ating sarili.” Ilan lamang ito sa mga linya ni Antonio Luna sa pelikula na talaga namang tumatak sa puso’t isipan ng mga Pilipinong nakapanood na nito.

Isang maaaring layunin ng pelikula ay ang ipakita kung paano nahahadlangan ng kainggitan, galit at kapangyarihan ang pagkakaisa ng bawat isa upang makamit ang kalayaan at pag-unlad ng isang bansa.

Ang pelikula ay pinagbidahan nina John Arcilla bilang si Heneral Antonio Luna, Mon Confiado bilang si Presidente Emilio Aguinaldo, Arron Villaflor bilang si Joven Hernando, Joem Bascon bilang si Colonel Paco Roman, Archie Alemania bilang si Kapitan Eduardo Rusca, Epy Quizon bilang si Apolinario Mabini, Nonie Buencamino bilang si Felipe Buencamino, Paulo Avelino bilang si Heneral Gregorio Del Pilar, Leo Martinez bilang si Pedro Paterno, Mylene Dizon bilang si Isabel, Ronnie Lazaro bilang si Tenyente Garcia, Alvin Anson bilang si Heneral Josel Alejandrino, Alex Medina bilang si Kapitan Jose Bernal, Ketchup Eusebio bilang si Kapitan Janolino, Art Acuña bilang si Colonel Manuel Bernal, Bing Pimentel bilang si Doña Laureano Luna, Benjamin Alves bilang si Tenyente Quezon, at si Lorenz Martinez bilang si Herenal Tomas Mascardo.

II. PAMAGAT

Sa pamagat pa lamang ay malalaman mo na tungkol ito kay Antonio Luna, sa kaniyang buhay bilang lider o Heneral ng Hukbong Sandatahan ng Republika ng Pilipinas laban sa mga Amerikano. Ipinahihiwatig ng pamagat ang hirap ng isang taong handang isuko ang kaniyang buhay para sa kalayaan ng inang bayan habang siya’y sinasalungat ng kaniyang sariling kababayan. Ipinahihiwatig rin ng pamagat ang kasaysayan ng bansang Pilipinas, ang mga pangyayaring naganap bago makamit ng mga Pilipino ang kasarinlang inaasam-asam.

III. KARAKTERISASYON AT PAGGANAP

A. PANGUNAHING TAUHAN

Ang mga pangunahing tauhan sa pelikula ay sina Heneral Antonio Luna, ang lider ng Hukbong Sandatahan ng Republika ng Pilipinas, si Emilio Aguinaldo, ang pangulo ng Republika ng Pilipinas noong panahon ng pananakop ng mga Amerikano, si Apolinario Mabini, ang Dakilang Lumpo at Punong Ministro ni Aguinaldo. Napakagaling ng pagganap ni John Arcilla bilang si Heneral Luna, sapagkat sa hitsura at tindig pa lamang niya sa pelikula ay talagang maganda ang kaniyang pag-arte, aakalain mong siya ang tunay na Antonio Luna.

Sa paraan niya sa pagbigkas ng mga salita at linya sa iskrip, lalo na noong siya’y nagagalit noong pagpupulong kasama ang gabinete at mga negosyante, ay kapanipaniwala at napaka-makatotohanan, sapagkat naipaparamdam niya kung ano talaga ang dapat na maramdaman ng mga manonood tungkol sa kalayaan ng bansa.

Hindi rin maitatanggi ang galing sa pagganap nina Mon Confiado at Epy Quizon bilang sina Pangulong Emilio Aguinaldo at si Apolinario Mabini. Sa pagganap ni Mon Confiado bilang sa Aguinaldo, sa buong pelikula, iisipin mong si Aguinaldo talaga ang nagpapatay kay Luna, habang sa pagganap naman ni Epy Quizon bilang si Mabini, iisipin mong mabuti nalang na si Mabini ang punong ministro, sapagkat naiintindihan niya ang layunin ni Luna at layunin ng mga negosyante, at alam niya ang dapat gawin.

Kung iyo ring papansinin, bagay na bagay sa mga karakter ang mga napiling aktor. Sa hitsura, tindig, at iba pa.

B. KATUWANG NA TAUHAN

Ang mga katuwang na tauhan ay sina Arron Villaflor bilang si Joven Hernando, Joem Bascon bilang si Colonel Paco Roman, Archie Alemania bilang si Kapitan Eduardo Rusca,Nonie Buencamino bilang si Felipe Buencamino, Paulo Avelino bilang si Heneral Gregorio Del Pilar, Leo Martinez bilang si Pedro Paterno, Mylene Dizon bilang si Isabel, Ronnie Lazaro bilang si Tenyente Garcia, Alvin Anson bilang si Heneral Josel Alejandrino, Alex Medina bilang si Kapitan Jose Bernal, Ketchup Eusebio bilang si Kapitan Janolino, Art Acuña bilang si Colonel Manuel Bernal, Bing Pimentel bilang si Doña Laureano Luna, Benjamin Alves bilang si Tenyente Quezon, at si Lorenz Martinez bilang si Herenal Tomas Mascardo.

Lahat sila ay hindi mo maitatangging nagampanang mabuti ang kanilang mga karakter, lalung-lalo na noong magkakaroon na sana gulo sa pagitan nina Heneral Luna at Heneral Tomas Mascardo, nagampanang mabuti ni Lorenz Martinez ang kaniyang karakter dito bilang si Heneral Tomas Mascardo. Pati na rin noong nasakop ng mga Amerikano ang Quinga, ang labanan doon ay talagang nakaka-kaba, sapagkat kung hindi makababalik agad sina Heneral Luna, ay maraming mga sundalo ang mamamatay.

IV. URI NG GENRE NG PELIKULA

Ang pelikulang Heneral Luna ay nasa genre na Action at Historical Fiction, sapagkat naglalaman ang pelikula ng mga senaryong pagpatay, digmaan at ito’y tungkol sa kasaysayan ng bansa.

V. TEMA O PAKSA NG AKDA

Ang tema o paksa ng akda o pelikula ay tungkol sa mga pagsubok na dinanas ni Heneral Antonio Luna kasama ang kaniyang hukbo sa pagsugpo sa tropa ng mga Amerikano upang makamit ang kalayaan ng inang bayan kahit na ang kapalit pa nito ay ang kanilang buhay. Tungkol rin ito sa kung paano namatay si Heneral Luna sa mga kamay ng kapwa niyang Pilipino sa kabila ng pagmamahal niya sa bansa at sa layuning makamit ang pangmatagalang kalayaan at kaunlaran at sa kung paano siya naging inspirasyon sa iba. Patungkol rin ito sa mga problema sa pamahalaan noon gaya ng hindi pagkakaisa sa iisang layunin katulad ng pagiging malaya mula sa mga kamay ng mga Amerikano.

VI. SINEMATOGRAPIYA

Ang mga eksena sa pelikula ay nakatulong sa pagpapaliwanag at pagpapakita ng tunay na nangyari kay Antonio Luna, at ang mga tunay na nangyari sa digmaan ng Pilipinas at Estados Unidos. Nakatulong rin ang mga eksena sa pagpapakita sa kalagayan ng pamahalaan noon, kung gaano kagulo ang pamahalaan noon, at kung paano hindi nagkakaisa ang bawat isa sa layuning makawala sa kamay ng mga Amerikano.

Sa tulong ng mga eksenang mahusay na kinuhanan, naiparating sa mga manonood ang mensahe ng kuwento at nagiwan ng aral sa mga puso’t isipan ng mga manonood.

VII. PAGLALAPAT NG TUNOG AT MUSIKA

Nakatulong ng lubos ang mga musikang ginamit sa pelikula, sa damdaming nais iparating sa mga manonood. Mahusay ang paglapat ng mga musikang nagamit sapagkat, malinaw na naiparating sa mga manonood ang sitwasyon sa mga eksena.

Nakatulong rin ng lubos ang boses at paraan ng pagbigkas ng mga artista sa mga salita o linya, sapagkat mas nagiging makatotohanan at mas nabubuhay ang mga karakter na makatutulong sa malinaw na pagpaparating ng damdamin at mensahe sa bawat eksena.

VIII. EDITING

Mahusay ang pagkaka-edit sa pelikula lalung-lalo na ang pagkakasunud-sunod ng mga pangyayari o eksena, sapagkat madali itong maintindihan, at hindi gaanong nakapagdudulot ng kalituhan sa mga manonood.

IX. PRODUCTION DESIGN

A. Ang mga props o mga kagamitang ng mga eksena sa pelikula ay makatotohanan, at makapagpapadama ng totoong kalagayan sa buhay ng mga tauhan o karakter sa mga manonood. Hindi nga lang gaanong nakakukumbinsi ang kulay ng dugong ginamit sa mga eksena, ngunit madarama mo pa rin ang pagiging makatotohanan ng bawat pangyayari.

B. Mahusay na naipamalas ng kasuotan at make-up ng mga artista ang kalagayan o sitwasyon ng mga tauhan lalo na sa tuwing nasa gitna ng digmaan. Ang kanilang mga kasuotan ay talagang maibabalik ka sa sinaunang panahon, kaya naman talagang nabibigyang buhay ang mga karakter sa pelikula.

C. Mahusay rin ang pagkakapili sa mga lokasyon na pinangyarihan ng mga eksena, gaya ng mga hukay na ginawa sa pelikula na pinangyarihan ng digmaan sa pagitan ng hukbo ni Heneral Luna at ng tropa ng mga Amerikano. Akmang-akma ang mga lokasyon o tagpuang ginamit sa pelikula sa mga pangyayari sa bawat eksena.

X. DIREKSYON

Mahusay na nagampanan ng direktor ang kaniyang tungkulin na maiparating sa mga manonood ang mensahe ng pelikula at matagumpay niyang naisakatuparan ang paglalapat ng lahat ng element ng pelikula at naipakita niya ang kagandahan at kahusayan ng kalidad ng isang tunay na pelikula. Masasabing mahusay ang dirketor ng pelikula sapagkat naiintindihan ng manonood ang pelikula at nakuha nila ang mensaheng nais iparating nito. Naipakita at nailahad rin ng mabuti ang kuwento at mga pangyayari sa pamamagitan ng paggamit ng makatotohanan at di makatotohanang mga pangyayari o elemento kaya naman mas naipapaliwanag ng mabuti ang tunay na nangyari sa pelikula.

XI. BUOD O SYNOPSIS

Layuning makawala mula sa kamay ng mga Amerikano ni Heneral Antonio Luna at ng kaniyang hukbo sa pamamagitan ng pagsugpo sa tropa ng mga Amerikano, matapos ipagbili ng Estados Unidos mula sa Espanya ang Pilipinas sa halagang 20 milyong dolyar, ngunit hindi nagkakaisa sa layuning iyon ang mga negosyante at miyembro ng pamahalaan sapagkat marami na ring tauhan sa hukbong sandatahan ng bansa ang nawala sa gitna ng digmaan sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Estados Unidos. Marami ang naiinis kay Heneral Luna sapagkat siya ay mayabang, at masyadong strikto. Matagumpay ang ilang laban ni Luna, ngunit ang iba ay hindi dahil sa alitan sa pagitan ng kapwa heneral kaya naman kinailangang pumili ni Pangulong Emilio Aguinaldo sa kung sino sa dalawang heneral ang kaniyang papanigan at si Heneral Luna naman ang kaniyang pinili. Dahil sa marami ang galit kay Luna, nang magpulong ang president, kaniyang punong ministro, ang heneral at dalawang negosyanteng naka-alitan ni Luna, sinabi ng tatlo sa pangulo na may hindi magandang balak si Luna, kaya naman nagpadala ng telegrama ang pangulo kay Luna na pumunta sa isang pulong at siya ang magiging lider ng gabinete, ngunit ang hindi alam ni Luna ay iyon na pala ang huli niyang araw, sapagkat nang makarating siya sa tagpuan ng pulong, pinagpapatay siya ng kapwa niyang Pilipino.

XII. KUWENTO

“Mayroon tayong mas malaking kaaway kaysa mga Amerikano, ang ating sarili.” Ang linyang ito ay isa rin sa mga linyang tumatak sa puso’t isipan ng mga manonood at ito rin ang mensaheng nais iparating ng pelikula sa kabuoan. Ipinaliliwanag nito, na kung hindi magkakaisa ang lahat, walang mangyayaring pagbabago, at magdudulot lamang ito ng problema gaya na lamang sa pagpatay kay Heneral Luna, hindi nagdulat ang papatay sa kaniya ng kalayaan o pag-unlad. Ang aral naman na mapupulot sa pelikula ay dapat matuto ang bawat isa na magkaisa lalo na sa panahong nahihirapan ang lahat, dahil wala nang ibang magtutulungan kundi ang bawat isa rin lang.

XIII. MGA KAISIPAN O ARAL NG PELIKULA

Ang aral na mapupulot sa pelikula ay dapat tayong magkaisa. WOMEN’S HISTORY † BONA SFORZA (2 February 1494 – 19 November 1557)

Bona was the third of the four children of Gian Galeazzo Sforza and Isabel de Nápoles. At the time, her father was the duca of Milan in name only with most of the power being in the hands of his uncle, Ludovico il Moro Sforza. Gian Galeazzo died 21 October 1494, before the birth of Bona’s youngest sibling, Bianca Maria. Not wishing to relinquish his power to his nephew, Francesco, Ludovico took custody of Francesco and planned to send the rest of the family away to Bari and Rossano. However, Ludovico’s plans were interrupted by the invasion of Louis XII de France, who claimed the duchy of Milano as the grandson of Valentina Visconti, the aunt of Ludovico’s mother, Bianca Maria Visconti. Louis took Francesco as a hostage and sent him back to France, but Isabel and her other children departed for Naples. This was a short-lived retreat because in 1501, Louis and Fernando II de Aragón deposed Isabel’s uncle, Federico I de Nápoles. Bona and her mother thus took up residence in Bari where Bona received an intensive education. After the Sforzas were restored to the rule of Milan, Isabel hoped to arrange for Bona to marry the newly installed duca, Massimiliano Sforza, son of Ludovico. This plan failed as did plans for Bona to wed Giuliano di Lorenzo de’ Medici or Ferdinand von Habsburg. In October 1515, Zygmunt I of Poland was widowed and the Holy Roman Emperor, Maximilian I. immediately tried to arrange for him to marry one of three Habsburg allies, Leonor de Austria, Juana de Castilla, or Bona. Juana was eliminated because of her age and Leonor because her brother planned for her to marry the king of Portugal instead, which left only Bona. Bona married Zygmunt by proxy on 6 December 1517 in Naples and then set out for the three month journey to Poland. They officially married 15 April 1518 and Bona was crowned queen shortly afterwards, though the festivities lasted for a least a week. Bona and Zygmunt had six children, of whom one died young. After the birth of the last child in 1527, Bona never became pregnant again, probably because she’d been injured by a fall from a horse and gave birth prematurely. She thus had only one surviving son, Zygmunt II August, who she was determined would succeed his father as King of Poland. Even though Maximilian I. had appointed her as a Habsburg supporter, as queen Bona developed anti-Habsburg sympathies and preferred alliances with the Valois kings of France and Ottoman sultans and she also corresponded frequently with Pope Leo X. In 1539, Bona oversaw the burning of Katarzyna Weiglowa at the stake for apostasy and heresy, because she had converted from Roman Catholicism to Judaism, though she and Zygmunt generally favored religious tolerance, which was rather unusual for the time. Zygmunt died 1 April 1548 and was succeeded by his and Bona’s only son, Zygmunt II August. Bona took up residence in Masovia and expressed outrage after her son announced that he had secretly married his mistress, Barbora Radvilaitė. The Polish nobility shared her dislike of Barbora, but Zygmunt II refused to cave and was only separated with Barbora by her death in 1551. Later legends claim that Bona poisoned Barbora, but it’s more likely that she actually died of ovarian or cervical cancer. At any rate, Bona returned to Bari in 1556. A year later, she died suddenly in Bari and was rumored to have been poisoned on the orders of Felipe II de España, who owned Bona a lot of money he couldn’t pay back. Bona’s only son, Zygmunt II, ultimately died childless in 1572. The future Henri III de France was elected to replace him, but Henri was only king for two years before he returned to France to claim the throne after the death of his older brother, Charles IX. Afterwards, Bona’s daughter, Anna Jagiellonka, and her husband, Báthory István, were elected queen and king. They were also childless, so Anna cultivated her sororal nephew (son of her younger sister, Katarzyna Jagiellonka), Sigismund III Vasa, as her successor.

A modern AU drabble featuring the Rivera children and a few shenanigans eyy Modern AU was pretty much built for fluff and cute scenarios and I?? just suddenly got the urge to write this so I hope you guys like it?? Fandom: Coco Modern AU imector implied, oc x canon ships

The four year old twins were more than happy to be playing together without their older primo’s mischievous interruptions. This Saturday, Santiago was with his Papá, their tío Óscar, in the workshop. Their primo had been in tío Óscar’s lap the last they saw, excitedly asking questions about shoe-making as Óscar and their Papá Felipe had attempted to keep up in answering and working on orders at the same time. Both were unsure about how long Santiago’s attention would be kept (Or how long it would take for tía Imelda to kick him out of the workshop), and they deserved to play with no annoying primos about. They had finished all their homework and were bursting to stretch their legs. The twin girls were both quietly grateful Santiago’s attention was somewhere other than how to annoy them. He was only older than them by five months but that was enough to hold it over them with teasing words as he stuck his tongue out at them from across the room. Jorge was older than Santiago (Only by a year, but older nonetheless), and always had more of a say over the three when present, but he was in the garden with his mamá Leonor, eagerly potting plants and listening to his mamá’s words about plant care like they were gospel. They were pretty sure prima Coco was playing with prima Fifi, but the twins had given up on the idea of asking both to join their fun. “Coco’s too old!” Violeta stated, matter-of-factually when their tío Hector had asked them over the dinner table about playing together a week ago. Coco had rolled her eyes, smiling gently as she continued to eat. “Fifi’s too young!” Ovidia nodded as Fifi babbles from her highchair, Leonor leaning back a little when she smacks her plate and sends a bit of food flying. The two reach over and hold hands. “And we like playing together.” The two concluded. Hector looked between them with a grin and chuckled, shaking his head. “Aye, it’s scary how much like your Papá y tío you two are…” He mumbled. The twins had frowned, and exchanged a confused look. They were nothing like their tío Óscar and Papá Felipe. They were girls, Papá Felip y tío Óscar were not! The adults at the table found it funny though, Imelda and Valeria especially, and were quickly talking about it as Jorge snuck a tamale over onto Santiago’s plate, who beamed in response, the brothers exchanging a glance before continuing their dinners, while also pretending to be apart of the adults conversation, grinning and glancing toward whoever was talking.

The girls were instant that they were completely different, and they pointed it out to mamá that day as she helped pull back Violeta’s hair into a ponytail identical to her hermana’s before they went out to play in the courtyard. “Indeed you are, Ustedes pequeños diablos.” Valeria nuzzled her nose against Violeta affectionately making the small girl giggle and did the same to Ovidia, who whined her embarrassment, but smiled all the same. “I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me, play safe and stay in the courtyard ¿Entendido?” The twins nodded, their annoyance forgotten and both bouncing from suppressing their eagerness to race out into the courtyard. “Sí, mamá.” The two chorused enthusiastically. Valeria grinned and gently ruffled the tops of their heads before standing. “Have fun, niñas.” With that the two raced to the door, getting stuck as both squeezed past each other in the door frame before popping free and racing toward the well in the centre of the courtyard. Valeria snorted, watching the leave, before making her way to the kitchen.

Ovidia screamed, glancing behind her to see her twin trailing behind her, hands out to grab her. She veered to the left sharply, and Violeta stumbled to change directions as Ovidia ran around the other side of the well. Violeta gave chase, following her twin around the unending loop of the well. She paused suddenly, and twisted about on her feet, screaming in surprise when Ovidia yelped, and scrambled to run the other way. Violeta let out a noise of annoyance as her hand grazed Ovidia’s top. “I got you!” Violeta yelled, but still continued to chase. “No!” Ovidia yelled over her shoulder, a grin wide on her cheeks. “You have to touch me, and you didn’t! You’re still it!” Violeta grumbled, but complied, her pace slowing as she thought of a way to catch her twin. “Can’t catch me!” Ovidia teased, halting on the other side of the well when Violeta came to a stop, her arms out as she smiled, wide and proud.

Both were huffing, at a silent stalemate as the other tried to watch and figure the other’s next move. Violeta glanced about the well and frowned. She didn’t want to run around the stupid thing any more, she couldn't seem to ever catch up to Ovidia! But maybe… She leapt forward and jumped up onto the cobblestone, striding over the wooden boards covering the well with quick thuds and Ovidia yelped, catching on and darting off in the opposite direction. Ovidia ran around the tree looming in the courtyard and Violeta huffed.

“Not fair, Violeta!” She whined. “You can’t keep running behind stuff!” “Can too!” Ovidia retorts, running behind the tree one side and appearing on the other, leaning out from behind the large trunk with a grin. “I’m doing it now!” She laughs. Violeta huffed and leapt forward as Ovidia sqeaked and ducked back around the tree’s trunk, leaping over the roots with practiced ease. Violeta’s brow furrowed, more determined than ever to catch up with her sister and be chased, rather than chasing. Ovidia stumbled, the tip of her foot snagging at the dirt and she stumbled, slowing to catch her bearings. Violeta leaps and grabs her, arms wrapping around her sister’s waist and pulling her back from falling with triumphant cry. “Got you!” She cried excitedly as her twin moaned. “I got you! Now you chase me!” Ovidia giggles when Violeta releases her with a small shove and races to run by the wall, and Ovidia follows, weaving down the same beeline her twin made.

Valeria stands near the kitchen window, drying a mug with a grey cloth, watching the two girls scream and run a-muck. Felipe enters the kitchen adjusting his glasses. His work apron is off and glances up toward Valeria as he approaches her. “Valeria?” She grins, nodding toward the window. Her husband stands next to her, confused. His expression melts into a warm smile at the sight of his daughters catching each other in a small loop of tags, both growing increasingly frustrated at not being able to run an inch when the other just tags them immediately. “Aye, those two have hardly been out fifteen minutes and they have dust all over them. I just washed those dresses this morning!” Valeria says with no real edge to her voice. Felipe chuckles and makes his way over to the dry kitchenware that has yet to be put away. “You say that as though it wouldn’t happen.” Amusement creeps into his voice as he puts a few dishes away to be used later. Valeria turns to him with a roll of her eyes. “Still...” She sighs. “At least they still have clothes for tomorrow.” Felipe nods with a hum. As Valeria goes to hand him the dried mug a small figure appearing in the kitchen doorway catches her attention and she glances toward Santiago stood awkwardly by the door frame. “Hola, Santi.” Valeria greets him and he grins lopsidedly, shuffling out into the middle of the doorways frame, arms behind his back. “Hola, tía Valeria y tío Felipe.” His arms shift behind his back and Valeira raises a brow at him. “Did you need something, niño?” She asks, eyeing him carefully. The small boy grins a little wider. “Can I borrow the scissors? Por favor?” He beams, blinking innocently up at her with his sweetest face. Valeria shots Felipe an unamused glance as he frowns a little, uncertain. Valeria raises her head, a hand settling on her hips. “Have you asked your mamá or papá about using the scissors?” She asked carefully. Santiago’s smile wilts a little and he glances to the side, shuffling his feet. He shrugs and mumbles. “¿Perdón?” Valeria asks, tilting her head. “No…” Santiago mumbles a little louder, pointing an annoyed glare at the floor. Valeria nods a little. “You know the rules, Santiago.” She says and the boy nods. He shuffles back out of the kitchen and Valeria shakes her head, finally grinning at Felipe glances toward her. “He’s old enough to handle scissors, Vally.” He pulls her close in a hug and Valeria leans her head against his chest, the mug still in her hands. “Is he, though?” She asks, and Felipe makes small noise in the back of his throat. “Imelda, Leo and Óscar were very clear about keeping an eye on him after the last scissor incident.” Valeria reminds him pointedly. Felipe grimaced a little, thinking back to a year ago when Santiago was caught with a pair of scissors trimming through one of Imelda’s hair ribbons. The boy had gotten a hold of a pair of scissors and mistaken one of Imelda’s ribbons on the table as something he could use as a part of his craft. When confronted by a very angry Imelda staring him down, he’d held up the ribbon (or the snippets left of it) and desperately explained he’d wanted to make a bow for the small doll he was going to give his unborn hermanita. The doll in question was a blue slipper with button eyes,a smile and rosy cheeks stitched into the top that Óscar had made with Santiago to introduce him to shoes earlier in the year. Santiago kept it in his room, hiding it under his pillows when Imelda told him he shouldn’t have a slipper in bed with him. “It’s a shoe, mijo, not a toy.” She told him, glancing pointedly at her hermanitos who shrunk back sheepishly. (Felipe was sure Imelda had caught sight of the slipper under the boy’s pillow, but she never said anything against it again) Finding out why Santiago had been cutting the ribbon (that he promised he didn’t know belonged to Imelda) softened Imelda’s glare, but he was grounded for three days. Leonor calmly explained that he had to ask about using the scissors until he was a little older, just in case. He had been watery eyed, but nodded. It had been adorable to watch Santiago beam, full of pride and love, at his newborn baby sister as she thumbed and cuddled the purple ribboned slipper doll, but no one wanted to risk finding shirt arms or bits of pant legs missing. “I suppose your right.” Felipe hums. “I’m sure Óscar will make sure he doesn’t do anything too reckless…” Valeria scoffs and pulls away, taking the mug over to the cupboard with a grin “You and Óscar-” She began as she opens the cupboard and places the mug in, “-Would let those kids rob a bank if they begged enough.” “That’s not true!” Felipe insists with a huff, standing a little straighter. At that moment, a scuffle comes from the hallway and Felipe turns as Ovidia and Violeta stumble over each other, giggling quietly to themselves. They glance up, notice their Papá and grin identically from ear to ear, dimples clear in their cheeks. “¡Papá!” The girls squeal and Felipe immediately grins, kneeling down to catch the two as they leap toward him. He snuggles them as they press their faces into his shoulders.

“Hola, mi niñas preciosa.” He coos, squeezing them before setting them down, and Valeria smirks a little wider, shaking her head in a subtle movement. As Felipe stands, Ovidia reaches up and pulls his hand, keeping him leaning a little as she tugs excitedly.

“¡Papá, Papá! Can we borrow a bed sheet? ¿Por favor?”

Felipe blinks, confused “A- A bed sheet?” He asks, brow lifting.

Violeta grabs his other hand, bouncing on her toes and distracting him briefly.

“We’ll bring it back when we’re done, ¡nosotros prometemos!”

“¿Por favor, Papá?” The twins plead, squeezing Felipe’s hand as he glances between them, his scepticism melting into a loving smile as he watches their excited smiles.

“Ah… Well, I suppose-” Valeria comes next to him, clearing her throat loudly. He catches her folding her arms with a knowing look. He blinks over at her, confused for a moment before something clicks in his brain and he glances back toward his daughters, slipping his hands out of their and folding his arms, attempting to put up a more stern front.

“W-Wait. “ He stammers, before frowning at the two, nearly faltering again at their identical expressions “¿Why do you need a bed sheet, niñas?”

Violeta runs over to Valeria and hugs her legs, burying her face into her mamá’s jeans with a smile. Valeria smooths down her daughters hair and watches Ovidia, who’s grin doesn't falter one bit.

“We want to make a tent!” She exclaims.

“By the tree!” Violeta pipes in.

“Or the well.” Ovidia mutters and they both share a look before smiling back at their parents

“We’re gonna camp-”

“-Outside tonight!”

Valeria huffs. “Oh?” She folds her arms. She glances toward Felipe who looks between the girls, knowing the answer but faltering under the girls eager grins. He looks to Valeria pleadingly. Valeria sighs, holding her gaze on him for a moment before relenting and gently placing a hand on Violeta’s head.

“I’m afraid you can’t tonight, hijitas.” The girls smiles drop.

“But-” Violeta begins.

“-Why?” Ovidia asks, disappointed.

“It’ll be time to make dinner soon, and you can’t sleep outside under a bed sheet. You’ll catch a cold, and think of how dirty your clothes will get if you’re sleeping in the dirt!” Valeria explains, frowning sternly. “Not tonight, niñas.” The twins turn to Felipe who winces as they fix him pleading looks. “Papá…” Both begin, and Felipe scratches the back of his neck before shaking his head. “Your mamá’s right, niñas” He begins. “You’ll get cold-” “Not if we have extra sheets-” Violeta cuts in, leaning away from Valeria's legs and glancing between her parents. “It’s a ‘no’, mija.” Felipe repeats, a more stern edge reaching his voice and both girls glance toward each other, wincing in disappointment. Valeria tuts, and strokes Violeta’s head. Violeta shuffles back toward Ovidia and both hold hands, glancing toward the floor. Felipe’s expression softens and he scoops the two up into a hug, heads pressing underneath his chin as she they curl against him. “We’re just looking out for you two.” He mumbles as Valeria presses a hand against his back and curls her other arm around the girls. “We know.” Vio mumbles. “We know.” Ovi repeats. Felipe bounces them a little in his arms and smiles a little. “Beside, it’s-” He glances at Valeria who raises a brow at him, “-It’s only no for tonight!” Valeria’s expression falls as she raises an eyebrow at him. The twins pulls themselves back to look up their Papá hopefully. He grins at them. “Maybe another night we can set you two up a proper tent in the courtyard.” The girls look to each other and then back to Felipe nodding excitedly.

“¡Sí!” “Yeah!” They nod, ecstatic. Felipe grins and presses individual kisses to both their foreheads before putting them down. “Now make sure you two clean up if you want to help with dinner.” Valeria tells them as they run over and hug her ankles. “You’re the best, mamá y papá!” Violeta says and Ovidia nods. Valeria bites back a small comment as she sends Felipe a side-eyed glance. Her husband shrugs, helpless, and she sighs tiredly. The two watch the girls pull away, holding hands as they exit the kitchen, talking back and forth animatedly. Valeria folds her arms and leans into Felipe. “The tent was your idea.” She says, “So you’d best be ready to be hearing about that for the next week.” Felipe shrugs, an arms looping around his wife’s waist. “That’s fine with me.” He says. He glances to the side, suddenly uncertain. “I’m sure we still have the tent somewhere.” He mumbles thoughtfully. Valeria snorts as she turns toward him, hands resting against his chest and smoothing the creases down it. “Looks like I was wrong.” He blinks at her as she continues to brush down his shirt, “You wouldn’t let them rob a bank-” She smirks up at him. “-You’d help them rob it.” Felipe grins sheepishly before leaning in and kissing her.
