please help me help my cat

recently my cat Loki has been diagnosed with asthma and I am trying to raise the funds needed for his inhaler and medication. I was supported by PDSA (a charity here in the UK that helps people in low-income households pay vet bills so they don’t have to give up their beloved pets), but unfortunately due to lack of funds they are no longer able to help me. I was about to get him insurance when he had a nasty asthma attack and needed rushing in. now because this happened before i was able to get insurance they will not cover the costs, and i need to find the money somewhere else myself. I will starve myself in order to afford his medication if i have to, but i’m trying to raise the funds through justgiving. please reblog or donate, anything, no matter how big or small will help. thank you all so much.

We just learned that a few days ago it was #worldasthmaday from our dear furriends @mimo_and_kirry (Kirry also has asthma). This video may be a little hard to watch 😿 but it helped us get a diagnosis for Olive so we could treat get her the best treatment. Olive developed #felineasthma last year 🙀💨💨. It looks a lot like she is trying to get up a hairball (which is what we thought for quite some time) when she is in fact having a coughing fit and an asthma attack brought on by her seasonal allergies.🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸 A simple X-ray can show changes in the lung tissue. 💀💀The first Spring after her diagnosis was really bad for pollen (which we think is her main allergen trigger) so we briefly had her on prednisolone along with a bronchodilator and Cerenia (for its anti-inflammatory properties). 💊💉💊💉She is still on the latter two meds on and off throughout the year. We think it is really important that others see what an asthma attack in a cat looks like because most people would think it is "just" a hairball and ignore it. Olive only ever coughed hard enough once to actually vomit anything up. Vomiting isn't normal in cats- even too-frequent hairballs - and you should discuss it with your vet. 💛💛 When Olive has an attack, she usually collects herself and immediately goes and runs off like a maniac and keeps on playing! She doesn't have a rescue inhaler as our vet says she shouldn't as long as she is well-controlled with the oral meds. 💛💊💛💊💛 #felineasthmaawareness #asthma #asthmaticcat

Awareness Post!

If you hear your cat doing a coughing sound like this continuously DO NOT IGNORE IT!

About a year ago Parker started with this cough and at first I thought it was just a hair ball. But after this cough went on over the week I decided to take him into the vets.

Best thing I have ever done was trusting that something wasn't right, that a 10 month old kitten shouldn't be coughing like this.

After many tests and overnight stays into he vet hospital, it turns out that Parker has Feline Asthma. Some cats can really react to the pollen in the air and it causes inflammation on their lungs and throat.

Now little Parker has to have two puffs of his inhaler each day and when his allergies get really bad he needs additional medication to help manage it.

Parker is an absolute trooper throughout all of this and now seems to really love the car rides to the vet hospital.

Shout out to Woodcroft Veterinary Hospital for their fabulous and ongoing support for Parker.

Felling like I need a spa day! I’m not sure if you guys are the same but when one of my fur babies are sick, I literally can’t function. Especially if they have to be hospitalized 😢 it just kills me. @peenyhoudini and I barely slept last night but I woke up to a call from the doctor that we can take @smushball home today and manage the asthma at home. Do you think your pet has asthma?

A couple of weeks ago I was visiting my friend Magnus back home in Norway. I pressed the doorbell and waited to be let in, when suddenly his cat, Nymeria, appeared behind me. She was meowing softly, and looking imploringly at me. I was about to kneel beside her and pat her fluffy fur, when she suddenly began coughing.

My immediate thought was that she probably just passing a hairball. Once Magnus opened the door, he saw the poor cat struggling with her breathing and he quickly went back inside to get an inhaler. He helped Nymeria breath into the device, and asked me: “Have you ever seen a cat having an asthma attack before?” I shook my head and told him that I didn’t even know that cats could suffer from the condition. Eventually Nymeria calmed down, and we went inside with her.

As it is for humans, there is no known cure for asthma in pets. However, for pets that are living with asthma, identifying the signs and symptoms of the condition is the first step toward a happier and healthier life.

In our game you will learn to identify when your Wellapet is struggling with asthmatic symptoms. Those symptoms also count for pets, like dogs and cats. Here’s a brief overview of signs that your beloved pet may be suffering from asthma:

-Coughing and wheezing (this is often the most obvious and persistent symptom of feline asthma).

-Open mouth breathing, which may occur during times of rest, heightened stress, or increased activity.

-Blue lips and gums during the aforementioned times of labored breathing.
