Ah yes, 'felix'; based on the latin definition, and certainly a correct pronunciation. Although there is a certain charm to the fact that he mishears his name when someone says the word 'feelings', or 'I feel like.'
it's a long e, but decidedly a soft word, when it comes to his name...

thinking abt ur validar post because i actually thought about that a little in my stupid werewolf fic. I had to really sit down and be like "what the fuck would people even FIND attractive about this guy enough to have a baby" and I didnt wanna just use the occult angle and it hit me that Validar isn't self-caring because he hates he's not the vessel he wanted and yeah he definitely IS the equivalent of That Parent. You know the one. What I'm saying is maybe there's a commentary to be made here abt how the Plegian people and him in turn felt so dehumanized in general after a point even the extremist sects of Grimleal were better bc well, if you become food for Grima/BECOME Grima's body then you're useful and good and righteous. What gets me is Plegia isn't poor, either, but its poor in sustainability outside the ocean... idk, a lot of food for thought with Validar here. I didn't expect to think abt him in FEH so deeply but here we are.
Honestly it's kind of embarrassing how much I HAVE deeply thought about Validar. I've been wanting him to get into FEH for a long time now. A lot of his lines in Awakening are so poorly written that it's hard to make sense of him as a person. But even though you can't really argue that he's in any way sympathetic in the text... For me at least, there's no such thing as a completely unsympathetic villain, and I can't help feeling sorry for both him and the other members of the Grimleal...
I mean, yeah, when Aversa explains that Plegia suffering under Gangrel was useful because it drove the people to worship, I think we ARE supposed to feel bad for the common people. But I think it's easy to fall into a trap of trying to distinguish those ordinary citizens from the evil, manipulative leaders like Validar just a little bit too much. Aren't they all trapped in the same vicious cycle, in the end?
Over the course of the game, we occasionally fight some Grimleal enemies who are... really just nasty, and not supposed to be given a second thought at all. But I can't help but be moved that they call out to Grima with their dying words... "Master Grima... my life force... is yours..." (Chalard, Chapter 8). "Lord Grima... Rain down... retribution..." (Jamil, Paralogue 6).
The Grimleal... love Grima. Even Validar loves Grima. Aversa says he's everything she knows of love, but she also doesn't presume he loves HER, so of course it's his devotion to Grima that she sees. Notably, it's this form of love that makes her content to die for him.
So I end up feeling deeply moved, even though (or more accurately, BECAUSE) the entire philosophy behind the Grimleal is so horrific. The deep despair these people must feel in order to see salvation in the form of humanity's destruction... It's NOT just "hee hee powerful dragon will make me powerful" because these people, including Validar, do not presume that they are special and going to survive. Even the leader of the Grimleal is nothing. Grima alone is everything.
And... okay I talk a lot about the symbolism of Grima's name meaning mask, which I love so much, but lately I've also been thinking about the meaning of their Japanese name, Gimurei—from Norse, Gimlé, referring to the place where the righteous will dwell in happiness after Ragnarok, which will stand "even when both heaven and earth have passed away." So... yes, I do think that for the Grimleal, giving their souls to Grima is a way of becoming righteous. The world is cruel and ugly but Grima will make it right :::)
(Of course, because they believe Grima is the only answer, no one does anything to make the world they have any better. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. One that Grima is drawn into as well. When this is what they wake up to, what are they supposed to do? If they don't destroy the world, they will be letting a LOT of people down.)

good morning june. you are getting. my scrunchies. EMBLEMS BERKUT & RINEA. my fan emblems are made for an AU by @thanatophagency !!! He told me about his Very Very Cool Alear-Veyle roleswap and I thought. "wwhat if. it had different emblems." and then i went hogwild.
SO!!! Berkut and Rinea are, of course, a Duo Emblem. They are also: Firene's Emblem. YKnow how Firene is very very much like Zofia.
(Berkut fucking hates it here and it's Rinea's ongoing psychological campaign to make him smell the flowers)
All my fan emblems have a less... protagonisty slant. They're either all antagonists or got possessed at some point, lmao. (It's thematic to the AU, and it's fun.) IDK if salem actually wants to use these for his AU but I'M having fun and since he only thinks about Alear it means I get to think about roleswap Veyle as much as I want.
So I also had the thought of. "Hey. since we swapped ONE pair of older-younger siblings.... what if. we swapped all of them." so now the younger siblings get to be the plot important ones.
Which means Berkut and Rinea end up with Celine, and as I was thinking about them at like, 1am last night, I did actually hit cinematic parallels. Celine thinks, knows, that she'll be queen one day. That Alfred's rule will not last long. She is prepared for it.
So Berkut and Rinea confront her with a possibility: What if he doesn't? What if you never become queen? What if all your efforts go to waste? Who will you be then? Who are you outside of being a princess? And hearing that from a guy who literally died trying to become emperor is very scary to her. And it's Rinea who helps her grow comfortable with the thought that one day Celine may just be herself, and nothing more. (And in the process also helps Berkut get some closure.)
Much like Sigurd, the two recall their deaths. And they recall their promise to meet together in the afterlife. Despite how bitter Berkut is, that's exactly what Rinea views being an Emblem as, and goddammit she's going to enjoy it. She and Celine hold tea parties :) Even though Rinea can't drink as an Emblem, Celine pulls out the most fragrant teas she has so they can still pretend. It's nice.
I also had a fun thought that, as a dark emblem, they take on the appearance of their last battle. Berkut insane with the purple smoke, Rinea all burned and witch-y. This guideline applies to all my emblems pretty much because it's fun!! Out of Salem's AU four hounds, I'd probably give this Emblem to Pandreo.... burned up by devotion, and all that... narrative parallels....
And that's the story stuff!!!
NOW TO MY FAKE GAMEPLAY!!!!
(I claim no guarantee that this would actually be a good and balanced Emblem in the game itself. I'm just having fun and laying out a general powerset for them helps make AU stuff. Ok.)
(You will also be getting my director's commentary on this.)
(This is definetely my Most Well Baked emblem just from a completion standpoint)
Berkut and Rinea - Emblem of Devotion
Alternate title: Emblem of the Scions (bcuz. Scions' Dance in Purgatory. yknow)
Invocation: Dance with us, Emblem of Devotion! (I'm a sucker for the ballroom dance scene and their ballroom feh alts. I might need to workshop this one depending on how Emblem Ninian shakes out.)
Engage Attack: Waltz Of Embers. Teleport an enemy within 10 tiles toward the user and strike them with a powerful Lance and Magic attack. Mystical: +5 range. Backup: enable chain attacks.
This one's!! So fun!! It's intended as a "reverse warp ragna" more or less. Based primarily on the fact that Rinea has Entrap in Echoes and she will not hesitate to use it so Berkut can kill you instantly. Embers obviously bcuz of the burning stuff, and Waltz bcuz. they like to dance :) Maybe the animation is the engaged unit dancing with Rinea as the enemy comes in and they Kill.
You could so cheese bosses with that. Who needs Astrastorm to proc aggro when you get a free 15 range guaranteed hit Entrap. (I cheesed two bosses with Entrap it was great.)
Engage weapons!!
Rhomphaia: Deals effective damage against armors and cavalry. +2 Speed when equipped. This one isn't really associated with Berkut, but it's a unique lance to Echoes. Same way Roy just has the Lancereaver because it's a FE6 Sword.
Seraphim: Effective against Corrupted. Listen I know this is Celica's, but Celica isn't here, and it's the only offensive magic Rinea has.
Kriemhild: 3-range lance that boosts def and res by +5. You'd think this is OP, but I've actually nerfed it by removing its innate skill. What the fuck, Berkut. This is definetely a bond lv15 thing.
Sync Skills:
Burning Echo: Sacrifice HP to gain Atk (-3hp for +1atk on a single turn. Amount chosen at will.) [When engaged only]. This one's intended as a counterpart to Celica's Resonance skill, except with this one, you can go big or go home. I'd image it would have an upper limit in an actual game, but the idea that you can put yourself at 1hp and use the remaining 60 to oneshot a boss is really funny. Based on Echoes' magic system.
Wildfire: Increases hit and avoid by +10. Increase by +5 oer A-Support partner within 3 spaces. This one is based on Rinea's passive skill in Echoes! I added the support based effect since Berkut and Rinea are the only enemies with anything like this. Considering that Veyle would A support with anybody, you could totally turn her into a situational dodge god.
Phantasm: Halves damage taken from magic and bows. This is what I nerfed Kriemhild with - by moving this to skills instead of having it be innate to the weapon. It could be percentage based, honestly, but eh, I like coming up with the names, not with the numbers
And that's Emblems Berkut & Rinea!!! My beloveds!!

Whats your opinion on fire emblem fates? I like the game but i understand why ppl dislike it lol
I've never actually played fates and my only exposure to it has been through random feh units and my friends' commentary, so "my" opinion on it is mostly borrowed. that said, I have one friend in particular who has a lot to say about it, and mostly from her takes I understand it to be a deeply flawed game that nonetheless definitely does have its moments in terms of both story and gameplay. I'm probably not going to play it anytime soon myself, but I'm not judging anyone for liking it lmao

Do you think the FE franchise has lost its identity? From War is Bad, it is now War is Good Actually.
No, one game (and a half, I guess, including Hopes) does not mean the franchise has lost it's identity. It means one developer (the guy who actually directed Hopes, who was different than the guy who directed Houses) had a particular vision for the game that did not match the source material.
KT original Dynasty Warrior games are essentially Three Kingdom stories (maybe not all of them, but some of them are at least). KT thrives in tales where no one person is the bad guy, where there are complicated dynamics in a war setting where everyone is both a victim and a war criminal.
Three Houses was obviously inspired by both Three Kingdoms and Genealogy of the Holy War, but it was still directed by a guy from IS. And IS thrives in more simply dynamics- a good lord bands together with other good nobles and commoners alike to defeat a Big Bad.
What you have, then, is two different developers who thrive in different approaches to story telling, trying to tell the same war story differently. As a result, we get the rather pro-war story of Hopes with the pro-no-war Houses (excluding some minor dialogue and all of CF).
Heck, just go look at FEH. FEH is pretty "war bad" through and through. It rarely, if ever, condones any form of fighting. Sometimes it still slips up with the occasional weird forging bonds, but overall it still throws shade all over pro-war ideals.
I would wait and see what future games bring, and what future commentary comes with it before we declare FE a pro-war franchise.

I haven’t really said much on the upcoming FE title, other than Colgate Pepsi Lord being uggo, and that’s mostly because of my... unresolved problems with Fire Emblem Heroes. Or rather, that entire “hero summoning” as a concept.
I suppose sometimes in a game, it’s a fun concept to have like... a cameo summon. Twilight Princess’ Wolf Link in Breath of the Wild is a fun easter egg, and as optional dlc, probably non-canonical as far as story goes. It’s something that doesn’t bother me, maybe because I’m having fun with the game enough to shrug weirdness, like wearing Majora’s Mask as a mask, off.
But a game like FEH, where it’s built AROUND the concept of FE series cameos... I really can’t excuse it’s pathetic excuse for stories, while I stare at the pile of familiar characters I care WAY MORE ABOUT than the OCs constantly whumped in plot for little effect. I honestly dislike most FEH OCs, because there’s a lot about both their context and execution that bothers me... and the direction the games writing has good (book 2 was the worst nosedive, but the entire structure is mmwheeh)
So, my thoughts in rant form (brought on by FEH’s book 7 trailer):
Tumblr media
I don’t feel attached to Zenith, because I feel like the character could care less about it or its problems with the way the traipse off ALL THE TIME. It’s likely I’ll be just as cranky about a group of silver spoon kiddos summoning great heroes to serve their beck and whim... with at most a “you mean so much to me Marth-sama uwu” being stated. Engage’s tone looks all light and fluffy, and maaaaaaaaan, it’ll all bounce off my salty self. I just hope I’m not bored by it, like I was in the end with Awakening.

My #1 post of 2022
Dame’s thoughts on FE3H Rufus
FE16, aka FE Three Houses, spoilers below
So... over the years since FE3H came out, I’d developed certain headcanons for some off-screen NPCs. Y’know the ones, mentioned by characters, but didn’t get a name let alone a model/portrait. The most conspicuous one might’ve been Dimitri’s Uncle- Regent Rufus.
In the main game he gets mentioned only a handful of times: by Dimitri for existing, by Felix to be criticized for not handling the rampant Bandit situation post-Tragedy, by the plot for kicking off Azure Moon’s civil war events within Faerghus.
So I’d started thinking “what type of prince is this man?” and went with the idea of ‘party prince’: the sort of secondary heir who grew up with few responsibilities and instead just lives the high life on the country’s dime. I figured, this could be a big reason why as a Regent, Rufus would be inept, cause he plain ignored duties thus has no experience ruling. Along this line of thought, I figured even if Rufus wasn’t actively malicious that he did neglect his freshly orphaned nephew (as its canon post Tragedy both Dimitri and Dedue felt isolated within Fhirdiad’s castle).
So I guess, I built up this picture of an uncle who mostly wanted to have a good time and wasn’t very good at the serious stuff in life, one that Dimitri could have a shallow relationship with that was neutral-borderline-negative. Dimitri himself never seems to express anger towards Rufus, and counts him as family in all ending routes with the possibility of counting on his uncle to keep the Blaiddyd line alive in Crimson Flower. I LIVED FOR the drama of Dimitri being falsely set up for the crime of uncle-murder, and all the gross feelings that must’ve accompanied that.
It was kinda fun speculating on a complicated family relationship that was dysfunctional without being outright villainous-- But now I play through FE Warriors 3H, and seems all my headcanons are to be smashed to pieces, lol. More thoughts to come about that on a later reblog.

The latest FE Heroes banner has a bunch of references to the Mercedes/Lysithea support from Scarlet Blaze
www . reddit . com/r/Edelgard/comments/15rbxm9/the_latest_fe_heroes_banner_has_a_bunch_of/
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Mercedes/Lysithea support is unique in that it's the only cross-house support exclusive to the route of neither character's original house. The only way to get this support is by recruiting Mercedes and Lysithea in Scarlet Blaze.
That detail stood out to me, so it's pretty cool seeing a bunch of references to it in the latest FEH banner.
Summarizing the points I was trying to make in the image:
"Mercedes of the Adrestian Empire"
The rainbow cookies, of course. I included a bunch of text just to show how much the support emphasizes them, and how badly Lysithea wants to learn to make them. Now the same idea shows up as a major theme in her new alt.
The detail of Mercedes decorating Lysithea's hair with ribbons, continuing the big/little sister dynamic from their support. Pretty much the most predictable dynamic ever, given the two characters lol.
The shared overall theme and characters across the support and the new banner. Tea parties with baked treats, featuring Mercedes and Lysithea.
The shared commentary on taking breaks to improve productivity, and how that's a wise thing to do.
Based on all the shared themes and parallels, I think the intentionality here is pretty undeniable. That's important, because it lends further credibility to other pro-Edelgard commentary in FEH like with her Altina harmonic.
These alts are specified as being from Houses not Hopes, but we know how much CF encourages you to recruit Lysithea and Mercedes anyway. It's like the new banner (which also features Ferdinand) is referencing the idea they're honorary BEs given their connections to Edelgard and Jeritza.
Ayra's line about "not expecting to find so much wisdom in something like a tea party" is also quite relevant to Edelgard who we know routinely takes tea breaks with various friends in Hopes. This might seem like a tenuous connection, but hey, Monica's merc whistle item is even the Portable Tea Set.
Funnily enough, Heroes drawing further attention to the Mercedes/Lysithea relationship and support helped me realize it's an Edelgard parallel.
In Crimson Flower, Edelgard is the big sister caring for Lysithea's well-being and feeding her baked treats. In Scarlet Blaze, it's Mercedes's turn.
This also helps contextualize the relationship between Edelgard and Jeritza. In their A support, Jeritza expresses gratitude telling her "You did so much for me", and doesn't object to being called Emile. It's as if in Mercedes's absence, Edelgard found her lost little brother and cared for him. And now we see Mercedes caring for Edelgard's little sister. It's like they're "one big happy family", which is the exact phrase Manuela uses at the end of her SB paralogue.
Speaking of Manuela, getting Jeritza to smile for her at the end of their support is actually a flattering callback to the end of the Jeritza/Constance support:
Constance: A smile? Spreading across your face? Now that is a rare blossom indeed.
Jeritza: Only when in the company of a select few.
At the beginning of the Mercedes/Lysithea support, Manuela is also briefly mentioned as having cared for Lysithea after she collapsed from sleep-deprivation. Like Manuela says, one big happy family.
STD
Now I'm gonna make a wild claim: The Ayra/Mercedes harmonic is actually a Brigid/Empire reference. To support this, I will discuss a bunch of parallels between Ayra and Petra, having already elaborated on the Edelgard/Mercedes connection in the previous comment.
The Ayra/Petra parallels are not only for the sake of justifying the harmonic interpretation. They also ultimately highlight Petra's dedication to Edelgard in a major way, and in doing so, establish a key parallel between Edelgard and Sigurd.
This is OG Ayra's official description in Heroes:
Princess of Isaach, master of the sword, and descendant of the crusader Od. She fights for her homeland.
On the Empire side, Ayra clearly has the most in common with Petra - swordfighting princesses fighting for their homelands. Petra dislikes "idleness" and we can see this with Ayra in her convo with Mercedes.
Early in FE4 Ayra's young nephew Shannan (future ruler of Isaach) is held hostage, while Petra herself is the Empire's hostage.
This Ayra quote atop her wiki page is something she says to her nephew's captor, who promises to release Shannon after the battle:
“I understand. But be warned, Cimbaeth: if you break your promise, you'll deeply regret it. Cross me, and I will pursue you to the very depths of the inferno itself, till I take your head. Remember this well!”
There are certain similarities in the Hopes Hubert/Petra B support:
Hubert: And upon your coronation, Brigid will be released from its vassalage with the Empire. Her Majesty and your grandfather have agreed to this in secret.
Hubert talks about how they can't go public with the agreement until the war is over, and Petra says she understands but adds:
Petra: But... all in Brigid have knowledge of our agreement. Every man, woman, and child. If it is broken, they will have knowledge of that as well. Blood would be spilling.
Hubert: Petra! Was that a threat?
Petra: Not a threat. A concern. I know I can place trust in the word of the Empire. The emperor would never be breaking a promise. Would she, Hubert?
Hubert: Rest assured, our promise will be kept. If Her Majesty and yourself are any example, the Empire and Brigid will support each other and walk into the future side by side.
Cimbaeth (Shannon's captor) agrees to release him after the battle, and Ayra threatens to kill him if he breaks his promise.
Edelgard agrees to release Brigid from its vassalage after Petra's coronation, and Petra threatens expresses her concern blood will spill if Edelgard breaks her promise.
It's interesting how Shannan is analogous to Petra's country here, but it makes sense since Ayra is protecting her country's heir, while Petra is the heir protecting her country itself.
In their Hopes A support, Edelgard continually asks Petra if she really should be risking her life in Fodlan, since Brigid needs her to return safely. Petra reaffirms her commitment, saying she understands the risks and adds:
"If we lose, then we will lose. But I will not be having regrets. I will be fighting with you until the end of bitterness."
This could be understood as referencing the bad ending of Scarlet Blaze, but this "bitterness" wording actually has certain parallels to the final encounters with Petra in both AM and VW.
The AM chapter "Assault on Enbarr" is described as follows in the game text:
With Fort Merceus conquered, it's time to approach Enbarr, the Imperial Capital. Imperial forces stand ready in the city streets, intending to resist to the bitter end.
And in the VW chapter "Confrontation at the Palace" where Edelgard makes her last stand, she says:
Everyone! Prepare for a bitter struggle! Victory to the Adrestian Empire!
In Heroes, OG Ayra's Level 40 dialogue contains arguably the strongest parallel of them all:
Before I came here, I fought alongside my comrades in a great battle. We were defeated. That's just how it is. And even if I could go back in time... I'd still fight. Yes, I'd fight to the bitter end. I have no doubt.
This is incredibly similar to what Petra says to Edelgard, in exactly the same order.
Petra - "If we lose, then we will lose." Ayra - "We were defeated. That's just how it is."
Petra - "But I will not be having regrets." Ayra - "And even if I could go back in time... I'd still fight."
Petra - "I will be fighting with you until the end of bitterness." Ayra - "Yes, I'd fight to the bitter end. I have no doubt."
OG Ayra also has this castle dialogue:
I fought beside Lord Sigurd until the very end. I don't regret it for a second.
This clearly establishes an Edelgard/Sigurd parallel through Petra and Ayra.
Notably, the "very end" Ayra references is the battle before FE4's timeskip where Arvis, the Flame Emperor, betrays and kills Sigurd. Just as Arvis betrays and kills Sigurd shortly before the timeskip, Byleth can choose "Kill Edelgard" shortly before the timeskip (then later actually kills her). Arvis is manipulated by Archbishop Manfroy, and Byleth is manipulated by Archbishop Rhea. Overall it seems fitting Byleth has some parallels with FE4's Flame Emperor, considering their parallels with Fodlan's Flame Emperor. But I digress.
Let's revisit the official harmonic description which reads:
Princess Ayra of Isaach is joined by Mercedes of the Adrestian Empire
With the established Ayra/Petra parallels, the harmonic can thus be understood as reflecting Hubert's words: "the Empire and Brigid will support each other and walk into the future side by side." Working together in harmony. www . reddit . com/r/Edelgard/comments/ysd6mw/the_goddesss_blessing/
So far, it might seem weird that I haven't really discussed any Ayra/Mercedes parallels, considering they're the pairing here. Now it's time to do exactly that, using various context established from this post.
Ayra and Mercedes are the "protective big sisters" to Shannan and Jeritza respectively, both of whom grow up to become powerful long-haired bishounen warriors.
When Sigurd rescues child Shannan from Cimbaeth's castle, Sigurd takes him in saying:
"I'll find a way to get him home safely, but for now, we need to look after him."
Having witnessed this, Sigurd's advisor Oifey remarks to himself:
"Just as I thought… Lord Sigurd really is such a kind man…"
Sigurd says he'll look after Shannan and find a way to get him home safely. As I mentioned earlier, Edelgard found Jeritza and looked after him. Their A support references his voluntary imprisonment, tying into the same detail from Jeritza's CF ending with Mercedes which concludes:
With joyful tears in her eyes, Mercedes smiled, took Emile by the hand, and at last welcomed him home.
Thus Edelgard ultimately does for Jeritza what Sigurd does for Shannan.
Oifey's remark about Sigurd's kindness is yet another Edelgard/Sigurd parallel, with Monica saying essentially the same thing about Edelgard as I highlighted in "The kindest person". It might seem ridiculous to classify this as a parallel, but there's more to it. Oifey is Sigurd's advisor, and the name "Monica" means "advisor". Sigurd's advisor emphasizes his kindness, and Edelgard's "advisor" emphasizes hers. It also makes sense that it's adjacent to the Shannan/Jeritza parallel.

hopefully, showing annoyance will hide how your whole body shakes as you stare at what was once the castle of the order of heroes. it had been hard enough walking into the ruined keep, seeing that same building you spend so much of your time in derelict and abandoned... but to see it reduced to rubble on the ground... you choke back a sob.
