my rant on episodes 31/32

I feel so conflicted about them.

On the one hand, I wanted to watch the shared horse scene so much. On the other,  there were so many inconsistencies and WTF moments. I can't bring myself to touch those episodes again to make more gifs, which is such a pity because WKX falling down the cliff? SO PRETTY. 

Spoilers behind the cut. If you do follow the drama with Chinese fans, you’ll probably have heard the same things like a million times. To save yourself more angst/stress, skip my post. 

The upside is that the director took the fans complaints to heart. They were making edits until 2am last night. I heard it’s already live, but I’m still trying to prepare myself. There’re some things that can’t be fixed >< 

*hopes for the best on Tuesday* 

In episode 11, WKX wanted to tear the Scorpion assassins into ten thousand little itty bits because ZZS had some blood on his lip, which made me mentally scream so much from joy. In episode 31, he  LETS Duan Pengju, that evil dickface(TM) go, just like that? Where's the rage? Where's the anger? Do you see the colour of ZZS's face? Can you see what he's wearing? Do you know what dickface did? 

Although it's a very touching moment when WKX decides to acknowledge the shixiong/shidi relationship, it's super weird that the ghosts are behind. I mean, I suppose it can make sense if we focus on the fact that he's planning to "retire" from being the big bad CEO of Ghost Valley. But it seems careless to expose a weakness in case someone tries to take advantage of it since they have to kill you to get to be the new CEO. 

There's no follow up on the injuries sustained from being tortured by the evil dickface(TM). How could they make WKX seem so callous? Maybe a scene where ZZS asked Wu Xi to hide his injuries from WKX, but WKX's right outside. He overheard ZZS telling Wu Xi to hide it from him, so he pretends not to know. *cue angsty scene for WKX here* 

The only thing related to injuries was when Wu Xi said ZZS could be saved from his self-inflicted nailing. Okaaaay. What about the piercing of the scapula? (穿琵琶骨 (piercing pipa bones) - it's supposed to cripple your martial arts ability until you heal ok) 

WKX suddenly decides to go off and be a career man, which is perfectly fine. But he suddenly has Gu Xiang watch over ZZS like a hawk, not letting him drink. (Seriously, I forgot if this belongs in TYK or if this is yet another thing stolen from Sha Po Lang) Where is WKX showing any concern over ZZS's total loss of 2 out of 5 senses? I ASK YOU MS. SCRIPTWRITER. What have you done to WKX's character??? Poor WKX, poor ZZS. 

And did everyone laugh off the fact that ZZS can't taste, so why should he drink wine? Ok, I can make myself accept this if I remind myself that ZZS would not like people making a fuss and pitying him anyway... (but shouldn't someone, anyone care???) 

We get many hints that WKX has a sneaky scheme, but he doesn't tell Gu Xiang, his closest friend since childhood. He doesn't talk to his soulmate about this either. 

WKX and ZZS's dialogue just before he falls down the cliff... Seriously reminiscent of Silent Reading, when Fei Du makes the same self-flagellating confession & Luo Wenzhou stops him. 

ZZS draws his sword and stands beside WKX. What is going on?! How does he still have his martial arts ability? Did months pass since WKX saved him from evil dickface (TM)? Nothing makes any sense!  

ZCL's hidden weapon is what forces WKX over the cliff. If ZCL did not know about the sneaky scheme, then WTF is this kind of scriptwriting? ZCL's character turned from a good, young child to a prop-causing drama and angst. Even if he felt betrayed, was he not there to see how depleted WKX made himself trying to save Han Ying? Did he not see how WKX tried to keep his shifu safe? Or taught him how to fight? Did ZCL become stupid all of a sudden just to create angst? 

 It only makes sense if ZCL knew about the scheme because of all the info he was privy to, such as Zhao Jing as the villain behind it all (when he heard WKX and ZZS talking). How would he go from knowing that to thinking ZJ should be the new head of the alliance? As a matter of fact, how could Shen Shen?  

Ye Baiyi has to be in on it unless WKX suddenly gained so much martial arts ability in the short time since they last fought. I mean, it only makes sense that WKX got so much stronger because he got injured by YBY, then depleted his strength saving Han Ying. 

So ZCL, YBY, Scorpion King and his buddies, fellow ghosts, possibly Shen Shen... WKX only kept it from the two people closest to him? The two most likely to do something stupid when they find out? *flails at this logic* 

The scene where ZZS's nails magicked their way out of his body... It's so awkward!!! I mean, we're supposed to feel emotional, but the special effects are just awful. I tried not to skip through it, I failed. 

So now what? ZZS essentially sacrificed himself to help WKX complete his goal. He gave up on his chance to be saved to fulfil WKX's pursuit of revenge (and take revenge for WKX's death). And it's all because of a misunderstanding. 

Between ZZS's nails and the ZCL-issue, I'm drowning in dog blood. What happened to WKX and ZCL's characters/personalities???? 

Also episode 32 is VERY choppy, it seems like we’re jumping to scenes randomly, the flow isn’t there. 

I can only say that the "Priest" spirit is gone; it's not a bad drama by any means. I'm still watching & I'm still going to buy the new episodes on Tuesday. But the random angst and abusive scenes inserted without no reason nor much logic are very un-Priest-like. 

I feel a little cheated about the scriptwriter being a fan of Priest. Priest's novels always feature couples who communicate. The supporting characters can come off flat in a drama sometimes because they're so normal. They don't have ridiculous backstories that make them tragic villains, and they behave logically. 

The angst "created" in Priest's novels makes sense. Characters don't suddenly change their personalities so that we can watch something exciting. The "dog blood angst/drama" is the big failing of so many Asian dramas. *CRIES* 

Now, the GOOD & HAPPY STUFF.

okay this is a long ask so let me just go through each point

1. i saw the fendi story and yeah, yangyang was there too but people are more 'forgiving' towards him cause hes not badmouthing other members like allegedly lucas is. also, labelv was basically trying to get more members into the thing than the organizer originally wanted to, so yangyang, since hes less popular, is pretty logical but lucas? really? he had his own shit almost always so what was the point

3. i agree, there's been a lot of analysis of every little thing he did, but like i said earlier - it was happening over a long period of time and people were blaming it on idk, the culture or the lack of knowledge of some language. now, when theres a chance it could be something more, because of the alleged badmouthing, people will bring that stuff up 🤷‍♀️

5. there has been a lot of bandwagon hopping on the hate but theres also been a lot of just straight up ignoring everything. i saw a fan acc on twitter share a list of translators so the fans could block those, cause they've been spreading false news 🤡 like, he was trending for days so people will get interested in whats going on and they will have opinions, thats how world works. and yeah no one will give a single fuck about future wayv project for example but i just hope it will be because they wont care and not because there wont be any future wayv projects :DDDD cause wayv was never big lol, lets be realistic, and this scandal isnt helping them at all and also the fact its happening right when there's that social media/fans campaign going on, i think its even worse :D

that bi post is interesting- i guess i have a third pov tho. ive seen some people use bi in a "new" way, to mean stuff like "attracted to women and nb people", "to men and nb people" or "attracted to several genders but not necessarily all" and so on, but also to mean, yeah, pan. and ngl thats cool. i think bi's pretty much a neat catchall for multisexuals of all kind, a bit like how queer is a catchall for anyone not cis or straight, and historically bi even used to group ace people too.

i reread your tags three times and actually it seems that we agree- i guess im just tempted to say that while everyone agrees on the meaning of pan, some people however use it differently to reflect their experience better. but unlike most people i dont view it as a bad thing but way more as something great because people can talk about their experience without feeling bound by, well, limits and definitions and blah i guess ? and as a trans person i find this great and important, not transphobic

I mean, the “new” way sure has a lot to do with “in which country you live”. Here, where I live, people is not using bi-pan in any new different way. But I've seen/read certain strange uses online. [the funniest use and also the only one that annoyed me was, time ago, when some weird straight people started to say: “I'm bisexual, but I only like men/women”.... like... what? How that bisexuality works? XD, but anyway, I'm nobody to go as a gender/sexuality police. Pft, I can't even speak English properly in a discussion. xD]. Also, years ago, some weird people started to say that pansexuality included trans people, while bisexuality no, so they kind of enforced the concept that “bisexuality ” had a transphobic root in its own... which is stupid, since statistics shows that trans people has quite more chances to be in a relationship with a bi/pan partner than a gay/hetero one... so.... soooooo......really crazy the way people spread misinformation. 

The meaning of the tags... well... it's long: I can't be anything else but chill about the enormous amount of words that LGBT community has crafted along these last years, because sure, we all want to have the exact right word for us, to condense all our complexity in a single word XD. But let's be honest, no way that would happen, ever. So, until people “discovered” [or more like accepted] that gender and sexuality are a spectrum and are more complex than 3 or 4 words, we developed a lot of words along the way, and made use of the same word with several different uses, making of this world a more complex one [because we are never satisfied with our own :P]. And I'm not even counting on the fact of those “re-appropriated” words that were a slur previously, back in time, such as queer. Those words are a whole lot of mess. 

Two simple examples:

A friend of mine at work is a bisexual woman [happily married with her wife

Another case: I, for example, feel super weird with labels. I'm nb, I give a fuck to any word of any gender. But I live in a Spanish speaking country and.... the HELL with the strongly gendered languages... I keep jumping from masculine to feminine or using the “new” neutral forms with -e [that all puritans hate and fight me for that]. But still yet, I keep using the word gay [in English, because at least it's more neutral than any other], because for the world, I'm a gender that can't be hidden once I speak [you know, damn voice] and I kind of be attracted to people of the “same” gender that everyone attaches to me [I said it in that way, because I'm more like a demy-gay, but forget to use demisexual here, nobody knows shit XD]. So... the obvious, shortest way, and efficient way to get rid of that problem every time I have to deal with that [aka, some person asks me with a reasonable argument that doesnt make me to toss them away], it's the word gay. But again, not even that means what it usually means, in my case. But again, imagine explaining all this shit, all the time, every time someone asks me with good reasons?. No way, I'll get bored of all that jabber.

So, these 2 single examples are to explain that... well, LGBT identity words, today, are a mess. Especially if you start adding those trans-masculine and trans-feminine and a lot of extra adjectives.... to me it's more confusing to understand what that person truly is, but what it's clear with that is that such person has a complex identity that wants to be acknowledged. So, if I know this, and if it's relevant for some valid [aka non-creepy] reason, I would ask to understand exactly the shade they mean, so I can acknowledge them properly. Because every gender and sexuality is a mess by its own. We will never get one single word that can embrace it wholly. I know some lucky people got it, they are gay, and cis, or trans and hetero and they are super fine with that...and I'm happy for them, they don't need extra explanations for describe their genders and sexualities xD.

That's why my tags were like that. Pansexuality appeared some decades ago [it's a super young word], specially in countries that are not USA [which it is the country that everything usually revolts around, here in tumblr]. Pan is a super new word, that mostly young people would be more inclined to use. It's more meaningful for young people [maybe. This is not a must. More like an average estimation.]

It's like queer. The oldest LGBT people, with USA-background, will probably hate it to use it. Some of them can't even fathom the hard history meaning behind it.  

Well, queer word, outside the history, is a whole mess in its own XD. What does a person mean when they say that they are queer? Are they gay? Are they trans? Are they nb? . Nobody knows. And it's ok, the clear meaning in that word is “look, I'm not cis and/or hetero”. And that's the way it works. I like to use it sometimes too, now that it has been popularised in the South hemisphere thanks to the influences of Butler. 

So, yeah, we agreed, anon. XDI tried to say the same as you in my messy tags. I wrote that because sometimes I find such a nerdrage about the **chastity** or the **purity** of languages with this mess of words, or the annoyance of people that don't know the 52 labels at our disposal to describe the LGBT experience. And I simply say that it's okay not to know all of that, and not to force or stress into picking one, because most probably, you will not get it completely explained in one single word, since words, despite being 52, are limited, and sexuality and gender is a whole mess with flavours, colours and shits, that—even worse—may change with time xD.

So... the most mature attitude I think someone can take about this mess is to relax about those labels, pick the ones they think fits better for them, and understand that everyone has their own gender/sexuality, and that label may not suffice, so, when it's relevant, it's ALWAYS important to speak honestly. Yeah, all this textwall could never enter into the tags. xD.

I Hope You Dance - P.P

Summary: Peter Parker and Y/N L/N and four years without each other. So much has changed.

It had been four years since Peter Parker and Y/N L/N had broken up. It was a tough choice, but it was one they had to make. Y/N had been accepted into Juilliard while Peter had been accepted into MIT. Sure, the distance wasn't too far, a four hour drive, but it was something they knew they couldn't handle. Having gone to the same high school, they'd see each other every day. Things are different. They'd be in two different states and it was still a far distance. They decided it would be best for the two of them to break up so that they wouldn't hold each other back.

As time passed, their broken hearts healed. Not entirely, they were always supposed to be together, but they moved on, knowing it was for the best. Y/N moved on to doing big things, performing in small Broadway shows at first, networking with tons of actors, producers, managers and more. While Peter began his career in STEM. He took any possible internship, meeting people in the industry and networking with big names while still keeping up with his Spider-Man duties as well. Both wound up graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Over the course of the four years, they managed to give up on all communication. Y/n shut Peter out of her life. Out of sight out of mind. It wasn't anything personal, nothing bad. She just knew that if she dwelled too much on the boy she loved, she'd get nowhere. Peter would occasionally ask Tony how Y/N was doing, asking him to check up on her for him. She was always doing just fine. Peter didn't know what 'just fine' meant, but as long as she was happy, he was okay.

Y/N would often go to the beach, reminisce on the countless beach trips she took with the boy. How they would sit before the enormous ocean and laugh. Talk about their dreams, not realizing that their end would be right around the corner. After their split, she would find herself with a sense of wanderlust, always wanting to be somewhere else but in her skin. So the beach was somewhere she went to a lot. Yeah, it was an hour ride but she went almost every weekend. She would always love to explore and get lost and stand beside the ocean, feeling just as small as she did the day Peter called it quits.

She doesn't blame him. He was looking out for both their futures and she knows it's deeper than just holding each other back from a distance. No matter how hard she tried to remember that for the first couple of months, she couldn't help but to still drown in the sorrow. One thing they both held in common after was that they did what they were too scared to do. They took chances, took big risks. They held the wonder they once shared and they kept fighting for their futures, both in different ways. New doors opened for them and they took advantage of it all.

Now it's been four years. It's May and graduation is rapidly approaching. Y/N has been eagerly sending invitations to her family and friends about her graduation. To add the icing on top, Y/N was cast for the role of Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera. She got a good word in and auditioned as much as she could and got the role. She'd jump in later on in the year around October.

As the day approaches, Y/n packs up all her dorm items and sends them back home to where her parents live, where she'll live for a month as she finds a new house. Her parents couldn't be more proud of their daughter. Coming from nothing, a family of immigrants, they were more than proud to see their daughter graduating Summa Cum Laude from a prestigious university. They were proud to see her living her dreams.

Students litter the halls of the stadium in which the ceremony is being held. Y/N's mind is in a frenzy becoming emotional at the sight of her peers in their caps and gowns. Matching tassles and stoles decorating their attire. Her eyes glaze over at the sight of herself. Her black floral dress is covered by her gown. Her h/c hair is in curls and her makeup is simple but compliments her features.

"Hey, don't cry, babes." Y/N's friend, Madeleine, says walking up to her friend in the female locker rooms of the stadium. She shrugs and looks at her friend through the mirror. Her eyes gloss over at the sight of her best friend. They met on the first day of school at Juilliard and stuck together since, becoming the best of friends.

"These are happy tears." Y/N responds with a wide smile as she turns to her best friend. They wrap their arms around each other and sigh happily.

"Save those for after, Ms. Daaé. Save me a ticket, maybe get me backstage babe." she jokes.

"Don't you have a movie to work on in September, Ms. Daaé ?" Y/N asks. Madeleine managed to get the same role in the reprise of the film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.

"Yeah but that doesn't matter right now. Seriously, what's got you so emotional. You hate big things like this, I know you'd rather be given your certificate in the intimacy of small groups. So why the tears?" Madi asks. Y/N shrugs as a sight escapes her lips. She sits on one of the benches and looks down.

"Peter and I had made a pact all those years ago. He'd be at my graduation and I'd be at his. I don't even know how he is nowadays. Haven't heard of or from him in years." Y/N says sadly.

"Hey, I know it hurts, but maybe he is here. In spirit, watching a livestream, who knows. But if you two made the pact, I doubt he'd back out on it. And if he did, don't dwell on it too much. You're moving on to bigger and better things. Yeah, this is the end of this chapter, but it's also the start of a new one. You can write him out of the next ones to come." she says. Y/N nods slowly. She hugs her friend with a wide smile plastered on her face.

The ceremony begins and Y/N feels herself get emotional again. She had a great time in college and all her experiences she owes it to everyone around her. She made it and she couldn't be happier. When her name gets called, she hears loud cheering as she gets her degree. She takes her picture and walks off. Once the ceremony ends, Y/N and Madi walk out together outside to meet their families. They found their families in the large heaps of peoples and ran up to them, hugging their parents and siblings and anybody else who came along. Aunts, uncles, godparents and what have you. As Y/N let's go of her brother, she notices a familiar face followed by another. Before her stood Tony Stark.

"Y/N, it's been so long, kid." he says. Her eye widen as she looks behind him to the familiar brown hair and brown eyes.

"Peter?" she asks, ignoring Mr. Stark. Peter's eyes widen as he takes in the sight of the only girl he's ever loved. She walks up to him and he meets her halfway, wrapping his arms around her as she rests her head on his chest and wraps hers around him.

"Y/N!" he says, the excitement coating every word. He feels her shake in his arms as she repeats the same phrases over and over.

"Oh my god, you actually came. You're here! I've missed you so much!" she says over and over. Peter can feel his eyes glossing over as he rests his head on her shoulder, his face nestling in her neck.

"Of course I did. A pact is a pact and I would never miss out on your accomplishments." he says softly. They pull away with wide smiles on their faces. Unbeknownst to them, Madi captures every moment, taking picture after picture as they hug and smile at each other. She never met Peter, but she can just sense the love radiating off of the two, the sincerity and the adoration. They really were meant to be.

"Alright, I hate to ruin the moment, lovebirds, but we need to head back to MIT. Peter has finals next week and then he prepares for graduation soon after, so we gotta get him out of here by Tomorrow and he still has lots of unfinished business." Tony cuts in. Y/N slightly frowns at his words.

"Come to my graduation. You have to keep up your end of the pact." Peter says. Y/N didn't even have to think about it.

"I'll see ya then, Parker." she says.

"Congratulations, kid." Tony says as he walks away. Peter quickly leans in for another hug.

"I'll mail you the invitation and yeah, congratulations!" Peter says excitedly. He leaves a quick peck on Y/N's cheek and runs off to catch up to Tony.

The month went by too slowly for Y/N's liking. She was getting impatient and Madi was too. Peter had sent her an invitation to include a plus one so she wouldn't travel alone. Y/N decided to take Madi with her, hoping her best friend and Peter could become friends. The day before, Tony Stark called Y/N to meet him at the Avengers compound and to take the jet from there to a nearby hotel in Massachusetts. When they arrived, they saw aunt May was already there with Happy standing next to her. She'd be riding with them. May was so happy to see Y/N again, talking her ear off about everything. Y/N couldn't be happier.

The entire ride was spent with May conversing with Happy. You could overhear Madi flirting with Tony, telling him she was in need of a sugar daddy. Yeah, she was the queen of being straightforward about everything. Much to your disdain, Tony was all for it.

"Madi, quit trying to make him your sugar daddy. That's weird." Y/N says.

"Hey, I don't mind. It really was a bad idea to bring her, though because she is too cute for her own good." Tony says. You roll your eyes and flip them both off. Finally after an hour ride, they all arrived at the airport and were quickly headed to the hotel.

As you approach the hotel, you're given the key to one of the top suites. You realize that you and Madi have the same key, so you two must be rooming together. May, Tony, and Happy have the keys to the suite across from the two girls, so as they enter the suite, they're met by the sight of someone watching TV in the main room. Madi gives you a look of confusion as you walk over to the familiar person and cover their eyes.

"Holy shit what's going on?" he yells?

"Guess who?" you ask as you giggle.

"Y/N?" he asks. You move your hands as he turns, a wide smile spreading across his face. He leans up and presses his lips on yours. Your eyes widen in shock as he pulls away.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry I just got so excited and-"

"Hey, it's okay Peter. Just took me by surprise." you respond.

As the day goes by, the group  of adults decide to go out for dinner and to a bar. By the end of the night, May is tired and so is Happy. Tony and Madi are tipsy and flirting with each other. Y/N and Peter are sober and just talking, enjoying each other's company. They sit at the bar, Peter's arm around Y/N's shoulder, holding her close as she snuggles into his side. It just felt so natural.

Soon, they decide to leave and go back to the hotel. They all retreat back to their suites and Madi says something about going to sleep. Y/N says she's going to sleep so she enters her room as Peter goes to his. Yeah, they were up close all night, but they weren't together or anything. It would surely be weird. But as the time passed and Peter lies down lonely in his bed, he comes to the conclusion that he doesn't care. He wants to be close to Y/N. To hold her again and kiss her and play with her hair. To just be around her. So, Peter gets up and walks off to the girl's room, his steps soft and quiet as he passes Madi's room. He opens the door to Y/N's room and finds her scrolling through her phone. She looks up and sits up in the bed, the sheets resting on her lap, revealing her pink sleep cami. He eyes her up and down, causing her to blush. She sure did look mature than she did at 17. He closes the door behind him and gets in next to Y/N. She lies back down and scoots closer to Peter as his arms wrap around her waist.

"I really did miss you these past four years, Y/N." he says. Y/N rests her head on his chest as she draws circles into his chest. He smiles softly as he breathes in her scent.

"I missed you too, Peter. So much."

"I...I still love you."

"I love you too."

"I know it was shitty of me to break up with you like that and suddenly say I always loved you_"

"Peter," she says as she sits up. Looking at him, she rests a hand on his. "I get it. Trust me, it's not shitty and I don't hate you. It was more than feeling like holding me back. Every time I saw you on the news, I started to realize, maybe it was for the best to my safety. I knew you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if something happened to me and you weren't around to stop it or save me. I get it, Peter. But, school is over, we can go back to being us. We can go back to loving each other and being together. I want it more than anything at this point." she adds.

Peter leans up and pulls her lips into his. She leans down and hovers over him as their lips move in sync. His arms rest on her hips as the kiss becomes more passionate and deeper. Suddenly, they hear moaning coming from the other side of the wall. Their eyes go wide as they pull away.

"Madi is so disgusting."

"Hey, sex is normal." Peter jokes.

"Yeah but she's having sex with Tony." Y/N replies. Peter's eyes widen as he clearly says ‘ew’.

"Wanna go to my room instead?" he asks. Y/N nods, following Peter as he gets up. His eyes widen as he sees Y/N is only in her camisole and matching underwear.

"Don't get any ideas, Parker. This isn't a ploy to get into your pants. I just want you to hold me tonight." Y/N says as she leads the way out to his room.

"Yeah yeah, whatever. Let's go to sleep away from these gross people."

That night was probably the best sleep they've gotten in a while. Wrapped up in each other's warmth, smiling through the night as they cuddled up to each other. They always found their way back to each other, this time just took a little while longer.

The day had started so well.

Maybe not too well, considering his need to establish a new bank account was directly related to Imogen’s death, but he had made his peace with it in the last few weeks. The past two years had honestly been like a dream. And although it hurt him that it was all he got to spend with his grandmother, it was more than he ever thought he would have.

That Imogen found him, embraced him as his family, that they built a strong, beautiful kinship in the past two years, and she actually chose to leave him his inheritance…

Jace sighed, trying keep it together and focus on the fact he was becoming rich was supposed to be nice instead of overthinking how much he would prefer Imogen to all that money.

Wishful thinking couldn’t cheat death.

And the inheritance would be enough for him to finally start his own business. He could ditch the waiter’s job at Taki’s and late night shifts at Hunter’s Moon when Maia “accidentally” poured people’s shots on him. He would finally have a chance to open Java Jace and change the world with his brownies.

“There you go.” Jace looked up at the bank teller who came back to the counter with a stack of printed paper. “This is the terms and conditio--”

Her words were cut short as a scream tore through the space, Jace looking over from the corner where the desk they were at was hidden to the main area and quickly realizing what was happening. He cursed under his breath and jumped over the counter, for once grateful for the hellish training his abusive not-father put him through before he got adopted.

His phone was at 2%, he wouldn’t manage to make a call but maybe...

Panic button, panic button, panic button-- There!

Jace managed to press the little hidden switch before someone yanked him by the hair and he was forcefully dragged from under the desk, throwing him on the ground in front of a row of identical shoes and trousers that must have been cashiers tied up in a row.

He felt a gun barrel press into the back of his neck as someone else, all clad in black balaclavas, twisted his hands behind his back, securing them with zip ties.

“Do not think you can try any tricks with us, boy.”

Someone hissed in his ear and a heavy boot settled firmly on his back.

Great.

At least he pressed the button. They didn’t seem to realize what he did, although they were still working fast on emptying any cash register and safe in the line of view. Amateurs. That kind of robbery wouldn’t get them enough money to buy a car, let alone make the jail time worth it after they had to share it between each other.

A police siren sounded behind the door.

“What the fuck, Victor!?”

“I don’t know! I took all their phones, someone must have called the cops! Hurry up with it!”

Victor. Jace mentally noted down the name, and the fact it was a female voice that shouted it, as suddenly he was forcefully dragged to his feet, the gun barrel finding its way to his chin. He swallowed, eyes trained on the door, praying the police was faster.

“Are you done there?”

Silence. He knew his captor was waiting for the answer to be able to run to the backdoor while watching the main entrance like a hawk.

“Kealie?!”

Kealie. There’s the woman’s name. Amateurs. Amateurs, but with guns.

“Done!”

“Police, don’t move”

“Sorry, Vicky!”

Too many things happened all at once as the police stormed inside and Kealie rushed out into the car, not one to worry about her partner once she had money in hand. Victor realized his position, so in a desperate attempt to save himself, he held Jace tighter, finger on a trigger as the gun bit harder into Jace’s skin.

“Don’t move or I’ll shoot his head off!”

Jace closed his eyes, trying to calm his breathing. There was a cop in front of them, a young, pretty latino, with his own gun trained on Jace’s captor, Jace positioned unfortunately on the way of the bullet, acting as a human shield.

“You will allow me to back out there and disappear or I will shoot his head off.”

Taking a deep breath, Jace tried to think. Angel, the guy was an idiot. He didn’t even have a car, how did he plan to get out of this shit? Jace just prayed he wouldn’t have the guts to kill a person with that tiny brain of his.

He looked at the handsome cop and tried to communicate with his his.

It’s okay. Just shoot.

The guy seemed to understand. Jace closed his eyes, noticing just before that as the cop’s gun moved lower and then a shot rang, Jace’s leg feeling on fire as the bullet tore through it but there was a scream from behind him too and the gun disappeared from his chin.

At least he was alive if the pain was anything to go by, he thought, tears streaming down his face.

“Hey. Hey, it’s alright. Come on. It’s just a graze. I know how to aim. I’m sorry I shot you. We had Interpol and FBI on this guy for a few years now, we couldn’t risk him running. His gun wasn’t armed though, for the record. We hadn’t known that before, unfortunately.”

Jace tried to focus on his words, feeling a mixture of pissed and morbidly amused, as the guy grabbed him bridal style and carried him out of the bank and to the ambulance. He could see weird black spots dancing across his vision as he tried, and failed to cling onto consciousness.

The day had started so well.

Alec would kick his ass for managing to get shot on a simple trip to the bank. He was right. He was a danger magnet.

That was, for some reason, Jace’s first thought as he woke up in the hospital bed, groaning at the dumb pain in his leg.

“You’re an idiot.”

“Nice to see you too, Alec.”

He pried his eyes open, managing to open one, and gave his brother something of a smile, glad to be met with more relief than annoyance.

“I can’t even blame you this time. How come danger finds you even on those rare days you aren’t being completely reckless?”

“Guess I’m just lucky.”

“Lucky is really not a word I would use. I’m glad you’re alright, you moron.”

Jace sent Alec a sheepish smile and accepted a hug before a knock on the door interrupted them.

“I’m sorry. I can come back later?”

A pretty latino stood in the door with a bouquet of white tulips and hyacinths. Jace could feel Alec’s disapproving glare in his bones.

“Alec, no.” His brother turned to look at Jace but Jace would not allow Alec to give the shovel talk to the poor guy before Jace even had a chance to learn his name. “Check out the cafeteria maybe?”

With a displeased sigh Alec listened to him, giving the guy a warning glance when he was exiting. The policeman entered, putting the flowers by Jace’s bed.

“This is a ‘I’m sorry I shot you’ bouquet. I’ve been told this combination is a popular symbol of forgiveness.”

“It’s fine. Nothing to forgive. It was the best way to go about it. Thanks for the rescue, I guess, as unconventional as it was. I’m Jace.”

“Bat.” the guy smiled, shaking Jace’s hand.

Just to respond to you finding it weird, Yule isn't purely a term that is part of pagan practices, either in original or revived flavours. Yule is the modern English rendering of Old English (what most people call Anglo-Saxon still) ġeōl, or ġeōla, and that doesn't exclusively refer to a festival celebrated by pre-Christian Angles+Saxons etc. It's also the general word for the midwinter season (because it's the time of year that has those festivities in it). Old English didn't stop being used as a language the moment that England began to Christianise (you can thank the Normans for that instead), and the early English, as I'll call them, didn't suddenly become a new culture with no links to their own heritage. Yule became used by Christian Anglo-Saxons as a term for Christmas probably because it fell at a similar time of year and was a similarly Big Deal Festival in the calendar. That use is now a little old timey by the 21st century, but it's still current. Yule in English is a cromulent word to refer to Christmas, and it's why Yuletide is used to mean that, and it's why the above-fic exchange is using that to refer to itself. Lots of older Christmas songs and movies etc will often use the word in that context. It's why yule logs are a thing at Christmas, though they're now usually a chocolate dessert thing rather than a literal log.

Now you could make an argument that it's a Christian appropriation of what is originally a term for a pre-Christian festival, and an important one at that. You wouldn't be technically wrong, although it's a bit difficult to litigate that given that this happened in a process that began over 1400 years ago. The other thing is that it would be missing the context that, although the Angles and Saxons (and Jutes etc) descended people of the early medieval era were radically changing their religious practices and beliefs, in part through deliberate missionary activity directed from Christian monks in Ireland, Scotland, and continental Europe, they were still that culture in question. It was their language, and their practices, and even if we don't like the reasoning for why the latter was being changed, both individual early English people and their wider communities retained agency. Yule isn't a term that was transformed by Christians or the Church as a block in Europe, it was one specifically used and altered by English Christians because it was meaningful to them. There's also the fact that, during periods of spiritual and cultural transition, the re-use of pre-existing indigenous words to translate seemingly similar concepts in a new belief system is itself often an act of agency.

I understand that as a pagan Yule in its original context is important for you and it might feel strange having people outside of that context use the term casually. As well as chalking it up to the weird ways that language, cultural identity, and religion both do and don't coincide at times, it wouldn't be the first or last time that spiritualities considered mutually exclusive share usage of terms considered important to both, and where one (or both) spiritualities view the other as appropriative. I think you do also have to recognise that the modern pagan revival is, by its nature, attempting to restore something that was fully in abeyance for a very long time, and that terms that once related to a pre-Christian context have since been used elsewhere. In English it's complicated by the fact that we do still speak a direct derivative of the Old English language where many terms that meant something specific to people in 500 CE now mean something wildly different.

tldr; Yule as an English synonym for Christmas has been around for at least 1400 years or so and it now has a fully documented history as a term in that context. People referencing Yule/Yuletide outside the context of paganism are usually using it that way, and it might be best to think of Yule in a Christian English speaking context and Yule in a pagan context as basically two different concepts that share historical etymology but have since become separate concepts relating to winter festivals. Not unlike how ancient Greek ᾍδης and modern Russian ад both refer to conceptual underworlds/afterlife related spaces, but are otherwise now two totally different concepts.

How does an event like this work? I've seen the phrase yuletide in relation to writing events but never actually figured out what it means. I always assumed it's a Xmas thing?

Yuletide is a fanfiction exchange focused on small fandoms without much fic - the idea is that you're only likely to get more fic for them if you cut out megafandoms from the options.

The way Yuletide works is that in the first stage, people nominate which fandoms they want to be included, and then the mods go through and check to make sure they're eligible. Then participants fill out a signup form listing which fandoms they want to get a fic for and which fandoms they're willing to write for, and an algorithm does the magic of matching requests to writers. (You do not typically end up assigned to write for the person writing for you. There's a term for this but it escapes me at the moment. Round robin matching, maybe?) Then there's a long period for people to write in, during which time you're generally supposed to keep quiet about what exactly you're writing and for whom. When you post the fic, AO3 keeps it hidden until the appointed time for work reveals, and it's shown as being by an anonymous author until creator reveals, when your name is put on it and it appears in your profile.

For this exchange, we'll be nominating which romantic and platonic relationships to include. It isn't strictly necessary, we could just use the ones already listed on AO3, but my original intent was for people to also nominate trope tags like "modern AU", "hurt/comfort", "reunion", etc. to allow for closer matching. However, this could really restrict the number of possible matches, and if we don't have many signups, that could be a problem. So I figure we'll try it with just the ships this time, and if the pool is robust enough, we can match on tropes as well in later exchanges.

A: In the talking stage, I usually consider them as friends, and see if they are in my standards. If they’re not, at least I have a friend. In a relationship, I’m very loyal. Once I’m in, I’m in, bc I have already screened them before advancing to this stage, so I’m very sure at that point that I do want to have a relationship with them.
