Currently it's the only state with the LNP in power. They banned single-use plastic bags all the way back in 2013. There's a serious problem with native forest logging. Bob Brown got his start in politics there. So did Jacqui Lambie.
Half the people want to plunder the natural resources for all its worth, the other half want to preserve it. The weirdest mix of very progressive people and very right-wing people, all sharing a tiny island and managing to not drive each other insane.
...Strange place. And I'm (kinda) half-Tasmanian myself, so I should know!
