AOT veterans with a Filipino S/O!!
[author note: did I write this as soon as I posted the first part?? yes. I like writing for this, itâs so fun lolol up next, Marleyan Warriors!!]
Summary: not much, just the AOT vets with their filipino S/O.
Gender Neutral Reader.
Recommended Song: Buwan - Juan Karlos.
Theme: Fluff, Modern AU.
TW: Swearing.
Characters: Hange, Levi, Miche, Erwin, Moblit, Nanaba.
Hange Zöe
Honestly they fully immersed themselves in your culture, as you know Hange LOVES learning about new things, discovering about your culture, they probably forced you to go the Philippines with them.
They started asking people for directions in english?? You had to step in translate for them, in which they responded to ask to teach them the language.
Yes they keep a small notebook of words they think are interesting. Yes even swear words are in there, not to mention they absolutely just butcher the way you say it.
One time when you both came back, Hange told Erwin that Bakla was a word for a good man, and they laughed their asses off watching Erwin tell people he was Bakla LMFAO.
They actually visited your province, they met your family and was surprised at the fact that they owned a whole farm, they tried to learn with your siblings on how to harvest rice, they nailed it btw.
they named your carabao, Sawney, and your chicken, Bean.
And respectfully so, your family started to call their animals by the name Hange gave them.
They started to cry about the fact that you guys had to go back, and like every time, your mom and dad encouraged yâall to bring filipino snacks back home, in which you did, because you knew that youâd probably miss it when you flew back home.
You guys have a tradition of going to the Philippines for your guysâ anniversary.
THEY SUPRISINGLY LISTENS TO FILIPINO MUSIC
They were the one to suggest Aegis to Levi but they prefer someone like Jireh Lim.
Favourite song is probably, Buko. They love the guitar in it.
Levi Ackerman
He first found out you were Filipino when he caught you packing a balikbayan box for your family back home, (for those who donât know, balikbayan box is a box full of your countryâs snacks to send back to the PH for your family to try.)
He had asked you what it was, and you answered that it was for your family back in the Philippines, in which he responded with helping you, and mainly scolding you about the way you packed it.
âIdiot, pack it like this, so you have more space to place stuff.â
When he first went to the Philippines, he first noticed the cleanliness of the hotels, he looked at you with a âis this why youâre so good at cleaning?â look.Â
God when I say your parents loved him, YOUR PARENTS ABSOLUTELY ADORED HIM. He would clean for your mom, and not only that, your mom approved of his cleaning technique, yes she told you to marry him that second.
And that you did, you had your first wedding with you family in the Philippines, and another in where you guys currently lived.
Bye, he absolutely looks AMAZING in a Barong. Your dad helped him slick his hair back.
Your mom and him, bonded of cleaning, sometimes when your mom needs help removing rust on her pans, she calls Levi.
like Hange he and you go to the Philippines for yâalls anniversary.Â
Please save this man from the streets, Iâm not saying it to be mean but this man almost gave his wallet to a bunch of kids who were hungry.
You gave money instead because you didnât want your man to be broke lmfao.
He loves seeing you so happy while youâre in the Philippines, he just thinks itâs adorable when you speak your language.
Aegis listener, absolutely no discussion, mans listens to them while cleaning, he listens to âSayang Na Sayangâ religiously.
when Aegis plays in the house, you know itâs a cleaning day lmao.
Erwin Smith
Please, remember when I said Hange told him bakla was a word for a good man, yes, thatâs how he found out you were Filipino, you literally was so dumbfounded, you waited for him in the living room, your friendâs laughing over the phone, man thought he did something wrong until..
âErwin, can you tell me why youâve been telling your friends youâre fucking gay??â
Yeah heâs got trust issues now. But he wasnât that shocked to find out you were filipino, he just thinks itâs neat, he butchers pronouncing shit, he tries to learn filipino jokes??? Itâs really bad, like you need to stop him from telling your family to save HIM from embarrassment.
He knows how to cook barbecue lmfao, he sits at your familyâs barbecue spot and cooks for them, your dad appreciates the help so much lmao, also he loves drinking the gulaman whenever heâs there, your dad gives it to him for free because, he basically considers Erwin his son now. His awkward, barbecue-cooking, son.
You guys go on hiking in Mt. Butalao, yes you sneak peeks when heâs climbing because his muscles flex, and he sweats. You guys go on a double hiking date with Miche and his S/O all the time.
He was kind of fearful when you went to a province to get in touch with your grandparents, he watched you help their carabao back into their pens, heâs scared of carabaos, donât blame him-
Surprisingly heâs as good as your dad in basketball, bye I just know the women of your community comes to watch him, heâs ripped, youâre jealous but you donât say it lmao.
Heâs got those jeep keychains lmfao, the fact that he kinda looked like a lost puppy when youâre traveling, like so many people, so little space-
please educate him, heâs confused on everything-
he probably listens to Eraserheads, Huwag Mo Nang Itanong. Yes his ultimate song.Â
Miche Zacharias
probably the only veteran that knows what to do?? Beside Moblit?? He knows how to bless, he knows to call your parents nanay and tatay. He also loves going to where thereâs a lot of Filipino street food because he loves the smell, he prefers the smell of bananaque over anything, hotcakes are a close second.
mf was scared when your mom suddenly said, âOh yeah, I kept your childhood spider.â
YOU OWNED A MF SPIDER?? You were all like âomg i miss himâ he was a little scared bitch omg.
You had to explain that you would buy them from the local toy store and you and your friends would make them fight each other to the death.
HE THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE SMALL- ITâS A WHOLE MF TARANTULA BYE
you know those dyed chicks you get from winning a game, yeah, he was attached to one you guys won, but as always, they werenât going to live long, I think he sulked for a whole 2 days. He named the chick Richard AHAHA.
ah yes, absolute unit in basketball, yes you and Erwinâs S/O would watch them play basketball together with your guysâ dads. Yes yâall gossiped about how hot they were in tagalog.
Just saying, Miche got some that night.Â
He doesnât fit in tricycles- neither does he fit in jeepneys lmfao- he kinda has to sit on the ground if you force him to fit, in which he has to awkwardly crawl to get out lmfao.
He literally looks godly while hiking, you guys donât go to your parentsâ house when you first arrive, you guys hike.
You guys go whenever yâall feel like it honestly.
âhey hey, reader, Mahal Kita.â
He listens to anything in filipino honestly, he likes chill filipino songs like Tell Me Where It Hurts by MYMP.
Moblit Berner
Heâs a researcher, he makes sure he doesnât disrespect the culture.
he knows to bless and all that jazz like Miche.
Wait but your family loved him as soon as you told them he was a doctor lmfao?? Heâs in nursing.
Heâs basically already apart of the family, all your little siblings call him kuya Moblit, he absolutely thinks itâs adorable.
when you guys are sending a balikbayan box, he places toys he bought for your little siblings in the box, with a note written and translated by you for them.
Moblit also knows about poverty in the Philippines, heâs apart of an organization where they give to those who canât afford real food, even when heâs back home with you, he donates from abroad, everyone knows him as the generous kuya.
honestly I can see him as someone whoâs also known by your community, people call him kuya Moblit or tito Moblit, itâs very wholesome when a kid asks him to carry them.
This man looks so nice and kind on the outside but when you guys are at your titaâs bday party and thereâs a whole mf buffet, heâs a whole beast.
You know when your uncles have like, food stacked on their plate, and like a cup of buko pandan at the side?? yes, him. definitely.
Heâs kinda like sasha in this au, he loves the food so much, he probably finished a filipino dish by himself (itâs the palabok)
heâs also a god at making ice candy?? like heâs so good at filling up the plastic with the liquid lmao.
you guys adopted a stray dog in the community and his name was Moblit, your family takes care of him while you guys are back home.
genuinely, itâs mostly wholesome with him, he doesnât really do anything wrong besides butchering pronounciation.
Moblit probably watches boxing with your dad though, itâs just too accurate not to be true.
More of a movie watcher than a song listener, his favourite movie so far is Four Sisters and A Wedding.
he cries every filipino movie, them do it to you.
Seven Sundays, he cried for days straight.
Nanaba
Nanaba found a filipino flag from your collage years in a box, asked you about it, then encouraged you to visit the Philippines because she wanted to meet your family.Â
Okay but your family thought she was a guy because of her hair??Â
your siblings canât say Nanaba, so they call her Ate Nana.
She was kind of jealous of your bond with your family, she knows she shouldnât be, but she couldnât help it since her and her fatherâs relationship absolutely sucked.
And you know this, you had talked with her about it too, it was kinda like a, âare you okay?â and âitâs nothing.â
You had to drag her out to family events, eventually, she started to feel like she was apart of the family, she went swimming with the fam, did karaoke nights, she was basically in the family now.
She felt really happy that you decided to help her educate herself in your culture, and that your family openly accepted her into your family.
when you and her married, she wore a baroât saya for the wedding reception and she looked absolutely gorgeous in them. She took your last name.
Your mom taught her to do the tinikling dance, and she mastered it easily, you of course danced with her.
she kinda had a guilty pleasure of going to McDonalds in the Philippines, SOLELY FOR THE ROOT BEER FLOAT, that stuff be bussin.
she forces you to go to McDâs wheneverâs thereâs a new flavour released.
Nanaba loves going on the jeepney, she likes the fact that you ring a bell when you have to get off and she does it every time you guys use a jeep for transportation.
Nanaba knows one word in filipino and thatâs Mahal, she uses it so weirdly though, but sheâs adorable so you let it pass.
âReader..erm, I mahal?? you?..âÂ
sheâs both a listener and a movie watcher, she listens to more modern filipino singers, like Patch Quiwa.
Favourite movie is when Vice Gandaâs in it, she just thinks all his movies are funny.

EPISODE 28 DRAMA PART 2 - Q&A
Part 1: Did Isayama have any say in this?
Iâve exhausted my salt supply because of the Season 2 cour drama already, (the one thing WIT Studio couldnât have fucked up but did it anyway...) so I tried to be positive in my replies!
Anonymous said:
I m deceived of how they made the rivamika scene :(Â
I feel you, anon! But honestly, after almost being scared to death while watching the raw stream because someone whose stream was ahead said theyâd skipped the carriage scene again (@suniuzâ IâM LOOKING AT YOU LOL), Iâm just relieved they did not skip that scene entirely.
@noatchkaâââ said:
I watched the 3rd episode of season 2, and Levi didnt say 'dont make a mistake', or something to Mikasa, but Towards Eren. I like that tho xDÂ
Nevermind, i saw your post xDÂ
Despite popular opinion, I also donât really mind, as long as they do justice to Mikasaâs character development during the Uprising Arc, whenever it airs. Apparently they changed Leviâs scolding to be directed at Eren because of the butterfly effect that came with radically changing season 1âČs last episode (rage mode Eren).Â
Pros: Changing Leviâs dialogue to âI dunno why youâre so attached to him, but protect him at all costsâ made him seem just jealous of Mikasa and Eren, and thatâs it. In the manga at least he had an excuse for what he said - he was concerned about Mikasa AND her performance. Rivamika feels!
Cons: Mikasa not being scolded takes away from her flaws and makes her character more dependent on Eren, and less on Levi (which is actually what happens in later chapters). Cue âMikasa is a Mary-sueâ and âMikasa is just shipping fodderâ comments. Plus, Leviâs scolding is one of the catalysts for almost her entire character development in the Uprising Arc, and thatâs what I like best about Rivamika - Levi is the one that helps her mature in that arc.
Itâs also bad for Erenâs character. While they removed his âIâll know exactly who to point all this anger at...â line, they added his rage mode to episode 25, and now Leviâs scolding on top of it makes Eren seem even angrier and more out of control. We know heâs going to snap later this season because of Reiner and Bertholdt anyway, so whatâs the point...? At this rate I donât understand what theyâre trying to get at with Erenâs character anymore.

I feel like the rivamika carriage scene got really trivialised.... my only consolation was seeing Levi's face literally soften specifically for Mikasa when he gave her ordersÂ
In the manga, while we canât see Leviâs face when he talks to Armin, we can suppose he keeps the same expression when heâs speaking to Mikasa.
Notice above how his expression doesnât change at all when he scolds Mikasa, after asking her why sheâs so attached to Eren. In this episode, however, Leviâs expression is stern towards Armin, becomes softer towards Mikasa and turns even harsher towards Eren, because of his scolding!
Thatâs a big deal and something Iâm eternally grateful to the anime for!

As time passes by I find myself even more disappointed and salty about how the carriage scene was handled. Mainly because of how Mikasa's character is portrayed in the anime and how all the anime-only viewers I know see her and I quote " she is a generic MC centered character with no actual purpose other than fighting and following the MC around. She lacks all the depth and development of other characters and as it is for a supposed main her presence feels insignificant " and to my dismay I can't defend her since The anime adaption does portray her that way with all the changes in season 1 and I can't reference the manga in our discussions. I'm honestly worried about her character going forward.........( two part ask. I guess having more than a 100 people bash one of your favorites while you watch helplessly does that. I'm mostly venting but I'd love to know your opinion on this if you don't mind. )
Yes, unfortunately. See the pros and cons I wrote about above. We canât do anything right now except be patient and wait and see if they fix it this season or next (which is more likely because... Ackermans).
Anonymous said:
With these drastic changes in the latest episode (which I was looking forward to so much) it is likely that EreMika and EreRi (NOTE: I have nothing against this 2 ship whatsoever) will gain tons of fans, it just saddens me RivaMika don't even get much screen time and then the studio will just change it like that, and to top it all they had ruined Mikasa's character development. We won't even get the "How's your leg part"... Is that too much to ask?? Do they really need to do that?Â
I donât think it was all that bad for the Rivamika ship relatively speaking. But which ship gets more fans because of that scene should not be the main concern here, itâs Mikasa, Levi and Erenâs character development!
As for the âhowâs your legâ moment from chapter 53: Hold on, we donât know if theyâre going to cut that scene from season 3 just because of what they did to episode 28! Some time ago I even talked about how they might tie Mikasaâs missing monologue from episode 25 to that scene when it airs in season 3. Who knows, maybe Levi will scold Mikasa differently, in other circumstances!
It makes sense to postpone that part of Mikasaâs character development to season 3 since the Uprising arc is much more about these two (Levi and Mikasa) than the Clash of the Titans arc. But it doesnât look good for Mikasaâs character in this arc - it takes away the balance that Isayama gave her from Leviâs scolding.
Anonymous said:
Hi! I know that you talked about the change in the last espisode, but I feel that they took away what Isayama himself put through several chapters: that feeling of curiosity towards Mikasa. They also eliminated the guilt of her, because first the dialogue of "the strongest man of humanity is injured because of me" was removed. And now the one of "protects to Eren but controlate" which just referred to that occasion of the fight with the woman TitĂĄn. (1/2)Â
I would not be surprised if they removed the part where mikasa asks for his leg if they animate the bow of insurrection. The only thing I rescued from that moment in the anime, was that in fact Levi did not even scold Mikasa, instead to Eren himself and made him rather annoying. Sorry if my English is with google translate xD (2/2)
As I said above, letâs wait and see if they include these moments this season or next. Since they emphasized his legâs injury with the added dialogue from last episode, I think chances are low that theyâll cut the âhowâs your legâ scene from season 3.
@dark-alsâ replied to your post âEPISODE 28â
I get that they are adapting things to fit with season 1 ending but I must admit I'm disappointed with how they handled this scene. I always viewed this scene as an important character development moment for Mikasa where she acknowledges her mistakes and takes responsibility for them. Yet they completely downplayed the moment ... I really hope this doesn't become a trend with other important scenes
I also hope this doesnât become a trend, but letâs just wait. They canât ignore this aspect of her character for too long because of the Uprising Arc.Â
Iâm still hopeful that they wonât cut the âis your leg okayâ scene from chapter 53. In my opinion, the animeâs biggest fuck up was making Levi, despite his injury, use the 3DMG to stop Eren from eating Annie. But they included this line to last episodeâs dialogue to remind everyone that heâs still injured and to explain why heâs not actively fighting in the Clash of the Titans arc. So you see, if they fixed their blunder with Leviâs character, thereâs still hope they can fix the one with Mikasaâs.
@suniuz replied to your post âEPISODE 28â
I was a little bit disappointed but maybe this means Levi doesn't want to blame Mikasa in front of everyone else? (Idk I'm just trying to make myself feel less salty but yeah Mikasa taking responsibility for her own mistake is so important :'(
Maybe it is. But itâs the second time the anime skips over that matter (Mikasaâs blunder versus the Female Titan). While from a Rivamika shipperâs point of view that might be great since Levi seems less harsh on Mikasa (even less than he usually is, considering how lenient he was to her during the Uprising Arc!), I really hope that means theyâre just postponing these scenes to season 3 so the context is easier for anime-only watchers to understand.
Lastly, Iâm going to quote Isayama, because hereâs a friendly reminder that heâs genuinely worried about her character development:
Isayama: Mikasaâs growth probably involves separation from Eren. By separation, I mean she might be able to return to that ordinary girl that she used to be in childhoodâŠâŠ I read some interesting thoughts from readers on the internet. People would say male mangaka have a tendency to reject the notion of âfate.â On the contrary, female mangaka draw works that approve âfate.â You meet your Mr./Ms. Right, you say âThis is fate!â, and you accept that the trajectory of your life is already predestined. People who interfere with that and seem to affect your serene life are portrayed as villains. Of course, I am not speaking of all mangaka, but with my mentality as a male mangaka, I think it is pitiful if Mikasaâs life is only about staying together with Eren. However to Mikasa, it is a wonderful thing to be with Eren forever. Combining what Iâve said, if I were to draw the separation of Eren and Mikasa, I feel like my portrayal likely wonât be satisfactory for readers, because Mikasa would have to endure the strain of being stuck between Eren and Armin...
If he allowed these changes there must be a very good reason, and weâll only know it when this season ends or maybe when next season airs.

Top 10 Anime That Doesnât Shamelessly Sexualise Women With Fanservice
The most awkward and annoying thing about anime is that little thing known as âfanserviceâ, moreso fanservice that creeps itâs way into shows otherwise focused on other things. Itâs what I like to call âdoing a Game of Thronesâ.
In my experience there are honestly quite a few shows that actually have confidence in their own writing, and donât feel the need to add softcore erotic moments disguised as jokes in order to desperately snag viewers and make their money back. But unfortunately, the shows that do have fanservice are now the predominant preconception of anime to outsiders, and female viewers especially can be turned off by this.
Iâll admit Iâve been guilty in the past of developing a âfanservice filterâ for shows like Kill La Kill, where I taught myself to tune out at certain moments until the show got back to showing the things I liked about it (The fights, the crazy fun tone, the characters, the intensity, and even the story eventually. Itâs not my favourite show, but I cite it as an example of me overlooking and ignoring awkward bits because there were other aspects of the show that I liked). But not everyone is willing to do that, and it really puts a barrier up to new anime watchers who understandibly just arenât comfortable with that. So with this unfortunate blight potentially lurking in any show to a new viewer, I thought Iâd make this list to make sailing these uncharted waters a little easier. I'm going by memory, so apologies if any of these shows have something in them I've forgotten about. But hereâs the top 10 anime that doesnât have panty shots, breast-orientated âgagâ moments, or other âmale gazeâ unneccesary sexual content. Iâm also excluding shows that had a moment that made me uncomfortable with any attempted âfunnyâ moments that crossed boundaries, e.g. Meliodasâs inability to keep his hands to himself in âSeven Deadly Sinsâ. (Needless to say, I hated that character).
In no particular order:
1. Princess Jellyfish / Kuragahime
âInstead of becoming a princess, I became a freak.â
âŠYes, that title sounds a tad dumb in English. But Princess Jellyfish is great character driven show about a young woman named Tsukimi with a passion for drawing and marine wildlife, specifically jellyfish, who feels that she hasnât really blossomed into the beautiful woman she was told she would grow up to. Living in the fashionable Tokyo district of Harajuku, Tsukimi sees people more beautiful than her everyday. But her life starts to be shaken up a little when she befriends a beautiful woman who isnât all that they seem.
Princess Jellyfish has the advantage of being written by a woman for a grown female audience, so thereâs no sexual pandering to teenage male viewers to be found at all here. Itâs also only 12 episodes, although the manga continues the story further. I really do recommend it for itâs likable characters and itâs simple but effective narrative.
2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
âIn order for something to be obtained, something of equal value must be lost.â
FMA:Brotherhood is the story of two brothers living with the consequences of their failed attempt to bring their mother back to life with alchemy. Seeking to gain back what they lost from that attempt, Edward and Alphonse Elric join the military as State Alchemists, becoming a tool for whatever purpose the military desires in exchange for access to their expansive library on alchemy. However, they soon discover alot more than they intended to, along with some things they never wanted to discover.
Probably one of the most popular anime out there, with an exciting and twisting plotline that carries you through to the end of itâs 62 episode run. Now, thatâs admittedly a lot of episodes, but I can safely say that the story is worth it. Be warned that you actually have to skip episode 1 due it being a filler episode designed only for fans of the original 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist. Yes, really. The very first episode is a filler, and it even contains a subtle spoiler. So yeah, skip it, as well the recap episode halfway through. Itâs all on Netflix btw.
One slight flaw is how it occasionally jumps into a jarring cartoony art style whenever it tries to be funny, which doesnât really fit with the rest of the show, but it depends on your sense of humour whether this is a problem or not.
I recommend this show if you like adventure, action, a bit of fantasy, and suspense and mystery.
3. Death Note
âThis world is rotten, and those who are making it rot deserve to die. Someone has to do it, so why not me?â
Another popular and well known anime within the community, Death Note is the story of an overachieving high school boy named Light (it probably sounds less pretentious if youâre not English) who discovers a notebook that will cause anyone whoâs name is written in it to die. With such power in his hands, Light decides to use it to reshape the world and rid it of criminals and injustice. But what he holds in his hands is a murder weapon, and prodigal young detective L is soon on his case in the hunt to find the cause of all these mysterious new killings.
Death Note is very much a psychological thriller. In fact, thereâs basically no action scenes at all in it. The tension instead comes from the cat-and-mouse battle of wits between Light and L as they constantly try to outsmart each other. But what makes it interesting is the fact that youâre following the story of a protagonists who is pretty much a serial killer, and you actually weirdly kind of root for him. This show is also all on netflix, and is 37 episodes.
EDIT: It has been pointed out to me that the character of Misa, who works as a model, could be considered as sexualised at a few certain moments, although I would say sheâs in control of her own sexuality. Youâre welcome to your own opinions on this. But nevertheless, itâs a show that isnât riddled with fanservice shoved in your face.
4. Golden Time
âAccident or amnesia, you canât rewind your life and start again. If you struggle, youâll just hurt yourself, and the people around you.â
Due to a tragic accident, Banri Tada is struck with amnesia, dissolving the memories of his hometown and past. However, after befriending Mitsuo Yanagisawa, he decides to move on and begin a new life at law school in Tokyo. But just as he is beginning to adjust to his college life, Mitsuoâs ex-girlfriend Kouko Kaga dramatically barges into Banriâs life, and their chance meeting marks the beginning of an unforgettable year. However, the buried memories of the Banri before the accident sometimes resurface, transforming him into the person he was before with none of the memories of his current self.
Golden Time is a great mix of drama and romance, with the drama not neccesarily revolving around the romance. What I also like is that the romance isnât just a âwill they, wonât they?â, as it actually shows how the relationship plays out and how it copes under the pressure of Banriâs problems with amnesia. Plus itâs just another good story set in real life. Itâs 24 episodes
5. Attack On Titan
âAnd just like that, everything changed. At that terrible moment, in our hearts, we knew. Home was a pen. Humanity, cattle.âÂ
Living in a walled city hiding from giant strange humanoid monsters known as Titans isnât the cushiest of lives, but the struggle and fight to survive in this show is a thrilling ride. Honestly, it has some of the best action scenes that visual media has to offer, all brilliantly directed and animated. Itâs 24 episodes, though most will tell you to get to episode 5 before you write it off.
6. Madoka Magica
âRemember this⊠and take it to heart: kindness sometimes leads to even greater tragedy.â
I literally canât say anything about this without spoiling it, but make sure you watch until the end of episode 4 before judging it. Itâs also only 12 episodes in length. The best part about watching this show is that you can then show it to other people and grin evilly as you watch their reaction to itâŠ
As per the theme of this list, it doesnât have anything awkward, sexual, or immoral. All you need to know is that itâs really quite a good story, and itâs a fun cute show about magical girls. Honest!âŠ
7. Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions
"I am the eye of the wicked lord, member number zero, Rikka Takanashi!â
An entertaining show about high schoolers whoâve watched too much anime and now think they have superpowers, and have invented characters and backstories for themselves. This phase is known as âchunibyoâ in Japan. Also along for the ride is our protagonist Yuuta, whoâs already grown out of that phase but still finds himself roped into the âFar East Magical Societyâ.
It all starts off silly, but there is actually a bit meat to the story as it goes along. Best of all, it eventually leads to a really sweet relationship in the second season that actually shows a very good demonstration of consent. Yuuta wonât do anything his girlfriend isnât ready for, even if it means they canât kiss or even hold hands initially. Her delusional âchunibyoâ state also adds an interesting element to the relationship. Basically, I came out of this show all âOTPâ for them xD
Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions is 24 episodes long in total, including both seasons.
8. Ouran High School Host Club
âListen, Senpai, I donât really care whether you guys recognize me as a boy or a girl. In my opinion itâs more important for a person to be recognized for who they are rather than for what sex they are. â
As the only lower class student in a school for the incredibly wealthy, Haruhi has nowhere near the money to pay for the vase they accidentally breaks in the schools âHost Clubâ. (a service unique to Japan where you can basically hire time with an attractive man at a cafe and have him treat you like a lady. Yes, really.) As such, Haruhi is contracted to work off their debt at the host club and is given the job of making the female customers swoon over them. However itâs only after Haruhi is hired that the rest of the men at the host club realise that Haruhi is biologically a girl. Nevertheless, the customers donât seem to notice.
Ouran Highschool Host Club is a fun entertaining show with great likable characters, and Haruhi is the perfect neutral foil to all the personalities in the show. Itâs actually kind of funny as well, though of course humour is highly subjective. The show seems to be quite popular with female audiences, but I would say that anyone can find enjoyment from this show. This anime is 26 episodes long.
9. Wolf Children
"You might think this sounds like a fairy tale. You might even laugh at my story. You probably think that stuff like this just doesnât happen. But everything I tell you is true. This is the story about my mother, and the wolf man she fell in love with."Â
An excellent film thatâs great to just get lost in for the duration of itâs admittedly lengthy runtime. Wolf Children is the story of a woman raising two rather different children after a romantic encounter with a werewolf in human form. Unsure as to whether to raise these children as wolves or humans, the mother does her best to support them no matter the challenges. Honestly a really enjoyable movie. Recommended if you like Studio Ghibli.
10. Clannad
âI was only living because it was too much trouble to die. I got up in the morning, went to work, I ate dinner, and then I went to sleep at night. Itâs like my body was doing it out of habit.â
Clannad is probably most well known for being most anime fans first experience with the âfeels trainâ. The first season of delinquent student Tomoyaâs adventures in helping out anyone he comes across in school while ditching class, and itâs all good slice of life stuff with the occasional good moments of drama. But most people will tell you that the second season, Clannad: After Story, is where it gets into the real meat of it.
Clannad is another character driven story, with drama, romance, and a slight hint of the supernatural.
And there we have it. Overall, it was an interesting challenge making this list. There are a lot more than 10 anime that fit this criteria, but I only wanted to include the ones I thought were in the top 10. The challenge came from the fact that I chose to exclude any show that had even one instance of an uncomfortable moment. By that logic, I had to exclude Future Diary even though I love it, as well as Steins;Gate despite itâs eventually thrilling story. I even had to exclude âLove Live! School Idol Projectâ in spite of it mostly being the most innocent thing ever, all thanks to Nozomiâs imfamous âwashi washiâ scene that was basically sexual harrassment disguised a âmischieviousâ joke. (Fans actually complained about that and in response, she didnât do it at all in season 2).
However, I still recommend those shows, especially Future Diary and Steins;Gate for their plotlines, but you have to be willing to overlook just a single awkward moment in each. (maybe 3 moments for Future Diary) Anyway, I hope this was helpful :)
