#personal#feels a bit weird to be excited for eurovision in liverpool considering i dont even watch it most years#its just#so much of liverpool's history is about music and being a melting pot of cultures#and so much of liverpool's present is thanks to the eu and the money poured into the city during our year as capital of culture#after decades upon decades of neglect by our own government#like almost the entire city centre was regenerated between 06 and 08???#parts of the city that had been derelict since world war fucking 2 were excavated and in their place we built plazas and parks and an arena#(and ppl wonder why we identify more with europe than with england)#it isnt perfect. obviously.#but it's a far cry from the 70s and a 30% unemployment rate and riots and my dad being paid at work in food tokens rather than money#and having eurovision here kind of feels like we're in that whole regeneration era again ?#like i wouldnt say that we're ignored in england because it's frankly fucking impossible to ignore us#but we're derided.#and it's just nice to be taken notice of for something other than the beatles or riots or hillsborough for once
