bringing a christmas in july vibe for wip wednesday this week with this snippet

They’d be invited to an ugly sweater party lunch at TK and Carlos’ loft, but either side of that, that had the whole day to spend together. To Nancy’s surprise, Marjan had gone all out in the lead-up to Christmas, taking them to pick out a real tree for the apartment—Nancy had never bothered with a Christmas tree before; she wasn’t home enough to enjoy it, and she’d always been a little worried about Ladybug climbing the tree and eating all the decorations—and buying them matching festive pyjamas and matching ugly festive sweaters, complete with a working garland of lights across the front, the kind that’s so tacky it’s almost cute. Almost.

“I just want to make this special for you,” She’d said when Nancy asked why she was going to such lengths for a holiday she didn’t even celebrate. That was so Marjan; wanting to make it special for her, she was such a romantic at heart.

When December 25th rolls around, Marjan makes them breakfast in bed of festively shaped pancakes. Their plates piled high with golden pancakes shaped like christmas trees, gingerbread men and snowflakes, dusted generously in powdered sugar and drizzled with maple syrup. They eat together, sharing the occasional piece of pancake with Ladybug the cat and cuddling while they watch Christmas episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and rehash the age-old debate of whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or just an action movie set at Christmas time.
