Katrina’s shoulder slams into the cage where she’s been thrown, careless as ever. She’s sprawled at Philippa’s feet when the woman enters the cage and she flinches, backing up so fast her back hits the wall. “Steady…. I’m not here to hurt you.” Somehow, deep down, Katrina believes her. She’s still too afraid to move, her eyes flickering over Philippa as she moves closer. Philippa crouches and even though she’s caged, trapped, Katrina feels some small hope flicker to life. “Be my pet?” “I…” Katrina hesitates. She can’t choose yet, she shouldn’t say yes. “Why doesn’t he love me?” his little brother’s eyes are wide and teary as he stares up at Elijah expecting an answer.

And Elijah, son of Mikael is stuck dumb, the silver tongue he has been praised for failing him.

Because Elijah doesn’t know, he remembers Father’s glowing praise for Klaus from his first cry to his first steps. Niklaus was his golden boy, the child that had managed to chase away the grief that had followed them across the seas from the older sister he never knew in the way Elijah had failed.

He remembers the feeling of envy at the love father had for Klaus, and he doesn’t know when it vanished, when all father started to see was disappointment.

Just as he doesn’t understand why Father can’t see that Klaus is trying his hardest to please him.

So he swallows the lump in his throat and pulls his brother into a hug, gently presses his brother’s face into his chest to stop those eyes from staring into him.

“I love you” he says instead into golden curls and ignores the growing dampness of his tunic as Klaus lets the tears fall that their father would abhor.

“I love you” he says and he hopes it will somehow fix the scars father’s hate makes.

that was his name, and the traveler's voice had a horrid note of terror in it; he startled up from the ground, or tried to, knowing he had to get to them. but before he managed it quite, his head spinning as the shreds of karma swirled and faded around him, the traveler's arms were around his shoulders and their hands tugging the mask off his face.

"Xiao, you don't have to hurt yourself for me, for us."

he blinked, eyes focusing slowly, gaze flicking from the tarnished mask before him to the traveler's worried face above. his numb hands were still clutching his spear, though he couldn't feel it. beyond, the dead body of the geovishap lay in a dark heap.

"I've always done so," he said, hoarsely, "I have no other purpose."

"don't be ridiculous," said the traveler. then over their shoulder, "Qiqi! come help Xiao - "

he tried to escape, but his legs wobbled too much beneath him, the bloodied scores from the vishap's claws throbbing across his side. besides, the traveler's hands still held him tightly, and it seemed rude to try to tear away from them.

the small, earnest-faced healer knelt next to him, her wide eyes solemn as she spun a globe of ice between her palms. its touch melted away the burning edge of the pain, soothing him as he breathed the crisp clean scent of it, the shadowy stench of the dark karma fading.

the traveler patted his shoulder again, their voice warm in his ear. "if you use your mask again, do it when you're sure you're well, not when you're already hurt. all right?"

Xiao swallowed hard. it would be difficult - difficult to remember, since he had been alone for so long. but the worry on his companions' faces was new and strange enough that he thought, perhaps, he could try.

he nodded, and smiled in answer to the traveler's nervous smile next to him, then closed his eyes to wait for the healing to finish.

Continuing from day 1

With the trails plowed and Jamie still asleep, Crosshairs and Drift walk on the trail to the training ground. It's a short walk, but the two hope it'll help them. They don't want Jamie to see them upset. That'll make things worse. The two walk in silence, unsure of what to discuss. Drift feels like he needs to be alone with Jamie. Despite knowing it won't be very helpful, and the idea might only benefit himself. He needs to tell Jamie how much he loves her.

"You going to be ok?" Crosshairs asks before the two walk into the house. "No, but what can you do?" Crosshairs hugs Drift, "I wish I could do more for both of you." "You're hurting about this, too." The two go into the house and into Jamie's room.

"I'm going to take Jamie to her base," Drift says, "I need to talk to her alone." Crosshairs nods. Drift lies on the bed beside Jamie while Crosshairs lies on his bed. Crosshairs: I'm not sure if we'll return today. It hasn't been a good morning. Lightning: I'm not even going to ask. Are you two ok? Crosshairs: No, even though it's the same scrap that's upsetting Jamie. Drift is having a harder time. Lightning: scrap. OK, see you when you return. I think everyone will figure out what's going on. Crosshairs sighs, reminded of all the Autobots and humans back in his dimension that worries about Jamie, and yet she feels alone. She needs to be loved, but so much hurt keeps her from feeling love. Crosshairs thinks. Drift's snoring breaks him out of his train of thought. He's glad Drift has occasional snoring. He doesn't think Drift is fake sleeping when he hears snoring. With both his friends back to sleep, Crosshairs goes on another walk. This time to the lake. A further distance, but needed. He looks at his friends, hating he can't help them.

Drift wakes up as Crosshairs walks into the room, still dressed for the cold. Drift concludes Crosshairs went for a walk. No point in asking if he's ok. Drift thinks. He wouldn't go for a walk because Jamie and I were sleeping. Drift waits on the bed for Jamie to wake up. He knew Crosshairs would sit beside him. He wasn't expecting the mech to hug him. The two are struggling, and they know it'll cause a problem if Jamie sees them upset.

The two are doing better before Jamie wakes up. They knew Jamie wouldn't be doing any better. Drift convinced her to take a walk with him. Crosshairs stays behind, worried about Drift's plan. Jamie finds it odd Crosshairs isn't going with her and Drift to her base. Even though Crosshairs isn't coming with them, Jamie worries there's a bad reason Drift wants to take her to her base.

The two sit on the sectional. "I'm here for you," Drift starts. "Oh, yeah? How long is that gonna last?" "Forever, I love you. I hate how hurt you are. I hate I can't give you the love you need. That I can't take the pain away." Drift moves Jamie onto his lap in a hug. Struggling to fight tears. He knew this conversation wouldn't make him happy, but he didn't realize he'd make himself hurt more. Then he realizes between what Jamie said and that she didn't return to his dimension last night. She wasn't going to come back. Drift thinks as he hugs her.

Crosshairs has been worried since his friends left. Ten minutes passing with his friends not returning isn't helping. He's about to go to Jamie's base when Drift walks into the door carrying Jamie. Drift sets Jamie on the floor. The two remove their outside attire.

The two walk into the room. Jamie plays a game on her computer. "What happened?" Crosshairs asks once Jamie has headphones on. "I figured out she would not return while trying to tell her I love her and wish I could help her. I know she lost trust in what humans say, thinking it's lies, but us?" Tears roll down Drift's face. Crosshairs doesn't know what to say. This is disheartening to hear. "As-as much as we don't want to, w-we have t-to tell O-Optimus and R-Ratchet," Crosshairs struggles to say. Drift acknowledges Crosshairs is right, despite Optimus and Ratchet's inability to help. Hating everyone is waiting for a miracle, for Jamie to do better mentally.

“You lied to me,�� Jazz sounds at the edge of tears. 

“What?” He can hear Danny argue. “I did not –”

“You lied to me,” she repeats. “I asked you if you'll be okay. I asked you if you are safe, and you said that you were. You said that I don't need to worry. That it's okay.”

“It was–” the kid sounds confused.

“Being tied to a bed and tortured is not okay!” she nearly screams. 

“That wasn't torture–”

“I saw the ropes, Danny.” Her voice is soft and fragile. “I saw how they tied you up to your bed. Just because you told them you were different.”

“They were scared, that's all. You know how they can be. It didn't hurt me.” He still tries to protect them.

“Danny, sweetheart,” she says quietly. “You still had rope burns when I found you. And even if you didn't – even if it was silk ribbons, and you could open it at any time– even if you never got a single scratch – it's still wrong. They shouldn't do it. They should have never hurt you, kiddo.”

There's a long quiet.

Jason takes the chance and takes a quick look across the corner. Dannys sitting there, on the couch, hugging his legs. Jazz is sitting by his side, not touching, a soft expression on her face.

“It wasn't a big deal,” the kid finally whispers. “It wasn't like- well, at the end. You saw. It wasn't that bad. They just did it because they cared, and they didn't want me hurt or–”

He's shaking now.

“I love you,” his sister says and hug him. “I love you, and I care about you, and I promise I'll do my best so one day, you'll learn that love isn't supposed to hurt.” 

“Sounds fake, but okay,” Danny says with a cheeck and hugs her back.

He still has healing wounds. His scars are massive and easily observed. His hands are shaking, and he's jumping at loud noises.

He's got a long way to go.

But Jason can see a faint smile on the kid's lips, and something inside is quiet.

I think I might be able to post two prompts tonight if my brain decides to snap out of it and stop throbbing (I gotta study first but I should be done by 7 pm tops so in like 3 hrs). Synopsis: Crosshair considers many things.

It was so easy to tell his brothers he loved them. Want the other half of my ration bar? I love you. Let me patch that wound for you. I love you. I’ll take next watch. You get some rest. I love you. I love you. I love you.

It was so hard to ask: do you love me too. Do you think our souls are as entwined as I do. Would you die for me, like I would die for you.

Didn’t have to ask. Surely they loved him too.

He tried to tell them in the language he had now. Join me in the Empire. I love you.

A grapple cable, fired into storm-dark waters. I love you.

Guns trained on him, mistrust in the eyes of those he had called brothers since before he could talk.

Now he didn’t have to ask. No need to articulate those feelings and force them past unwilling, clenched teeth. No need to let the mask of his scowl fracture so they could see the vulnerability within. He knew the answer. We don’t love you. Not as much as he loved them.

I saved her. Saved the one you love more than me. Saved her, because it’s the only thing left to show I still love you.

None of it had been him. He knew that now. Knew it, and was too proud to ever admit it. Too proud to say it had been the chip in control all along. Too hurt to let them take him back.

One last thing he could do. “Clone Force 99 perished in the bombardment.” I love you.

His Reoccurring Nightmare

Drift can’t believe what’s happening. What he, Crosshairs, and Lighting are seeing. Staring through the viewing window in horror. Crosshairs has an arm around him and Lighting’s waists. They watch the three medics struggle. They all avoid looking at the time to know how long Ratchet has been trying to revive Jamie.

“Come on, Jamie,” Ratchet pleads, “you have no idea how hurt many Autobots would be if we lose you.” He doesn’t want to give up, but he knows he’s been trying to get Jamie’s heart to start for a while. “Ratchet, i-it’s been ten minutes,” Jasmine informs him. He tells the two medics to do another round of the drugs. She has been revived after doing CPR this long before. Ratchet thinks.

Two minutes pass. Ratchet hates to do it, but he has to call it. To give Crosshairs, Drift, and Lightning a chance to say goodbye before Jamie’s body disappears.

The three friends are terrified seeing Ratchet stop doing CPR. “No,” Drift whispers. He stares at the three medics, who are tearing up, “no!” Crosshairs struggles to keep Drift from running into the room.

“Leave him,” Ratchet says as Drift lifts Jamie’s lifeless body up in a hug. Crosshairs and Lightning walk into the room. Crosshairs hugs Lightning. Jasmine hugs Ratchet. Jolt sits on the chair. The five hate they lost Jamie, but seeing Drift lose the one he loves adds to the heartache.

Drift wakes up, screaming, which wakes Crosshairs up. Even while they’re in the middle of a war, he knows what has Drift screaming. He was worried this would happen. It’s not a good time for the two to be unable to be with Jamie in her dimension. Crosshairs thinks. Drift doesn’t feel Jamie beside him. It wasn’t a nightmare. She’s gone. Drift panics. Crosshairs rushes to the bed. “Drift?” Crosshairs hates hearing Drift struggle to get air in. He sits Drift up, feeling the mech tremble. I don’t think he’s in a fit state to travel, but he needs to see Jamie is ok. Crosshairs believes. Drift feels like he’s choking and lightheaded. He tries to break free from Crosshairs’ hug. Crosshairs struggles to get Drift to calm down.

It’s a challenging ten minutes before Drift is calm. He lies with Drift, uncertain if Drift would panic if he goes back to his bed. He waits for Drift to fall asleep. He worries about the morning. I don’t blame him for panicking because Jamie isn’t with us. Crosshairs thinks. With the way her mental health has been, it’s hard to think she’ll be ok. Add she’s back in her dimension rather than down the hall with Lily and Lightning. Crosshairs sighs and goes back to sleep in his bed, hoping Drift will be ok in the morning and the two can go to Jamie’s dimension.
