Does she really notice her brother is losing it too when their parents died? it seemed like she was more annoyed at the drug used than seeing it as a cry for help.

Yes and no. Elena knows that Jeremy is losing it on a base level, because obviously. What she cant tell, is what parts are teenage rebellion, and what parts are his cry for help. Elena (also a teenager) drinks and parties, its literally why she got stranded the night of the crash.

Jeremy has always been a loner type, tortured artist, so she cant tell what isolation is normal and what isolation is depression. She cant tell if his drugs are a cry for help or the result of hanging out with a bad crowd. She is not a parent, and she can't be the way she wants to be to Jeremy because shes A) too close to his age with very little live and learn experience inbetween, and B) Elena is not ok. She is not stable, she is not handling ANYTHING ok and she cant support him the way shes trying to.

Her attempts coupled with lack of knowledge read as irritation because she has no idea what to do. Shes the golden girl, shes supposed to have the right answer for everything. Its what her mom constantly put on her shoulders. She perfect child. So when she cant figure out how to use that where it matters most (Helping her brother) she gets frustrated. Elena and Jeremy do not understand each other.

Jeremy thinks shes perfect because their mom put that on her constantly, but he doesn't understand how much pressure that put on Elena and how much she HATED IT. And Elena doesn't understand Jeremy because when she hit highschool she was already friends with the most popular girl in school and was part of the highschool royalty trio. Two very different worlds. Despite Elena being an introvert, she can not fathom what its like for Jeremy. And because he thinks she doesnt care and/or is only pretending to he doesnt want to help her understand.

Not to mention with Elena being in and out of the hospital and for a short time Therapy Jeremy and Jenna's life REVOLVED around Elena. That wasn't her fault, but it was true. She was in the thick of recovery and Jeremy was an after thought, unfortunately by Jenna a lot too. So he's pushed her further away instead of trying to communicate what he needs.

So when you sum it all up, Elena does see, and she does care, but she doesn't have the capacity or the tools to help Jeremy the way shes trying to, and instead she falls short making it harder on both of them.

But she does care. She really does. Elena sees Jeremy, but she just cant SEE him.

Be honest: how do you feel about the way Vicky Donovan treated Jeremy during their on-again-off-again relationship?

"I hated that relationship with literally my whole being. I don't even count it as one. She was using him, but he wasn't going to listen to me.... and I guess it made him happy even if it was just for moments few and far in between. I just didn't want him to get hurt... Jer deserves a girl who actually loves him, you know? Someone who treats him the way he treats her.

Jer has so much love to give, hes a really sweet and loyal kid... he just has no where to put it half the time and when he does find someone to throw it at they just... don't do it justice. I want the world for my brother and I think until someone else does too I wont ever really approve of anyone hes with..."

a smug toothy grin breaks onto jay's features. "i'm makin' a list." he lifts the notepad in question, partially scrawled with chicken scratch. "board games. there're some exams being held at the gym next week -- gotta busy the younger ones while they've got a free period. and i'm thinking," jay drops the stationery between his legs, "we should bring board games back. scrabble y'know. backgammon. chinese checkers." his elbow jabs teasing against jeremy's side, cheekbones high with interest as the promise of company lingers. "c'mon. test 'em with me. beat me with fucking words."
