This probably doesn’t add anything that hasn’t already been said to the conversation, but I come from a country where the majority of the population has a mix of indigenous, African, and European ancestry (unfortunately the first colony in the Americas) and if that quote from Suzanne Collin’s is true (“It is a time period where hundreds of years have passed from now. There's been a lot of ethnic mixing.”) I’m going to assume Seam folk have a similar background. I’ve seen firsthand how two siblings with the same parents can be born with wildly different physical characteristics (ex: my grandma with very dark brown skin, eyes, and black hair vs her sister with very light tanned skin, brown hair, and green eyes).
“Appalachia is 90% white”
“Katniss is only described as olive skinned, that like so many Europeans”
“Prim’s blonde, that’s weird for a biracial person.”
Bitch shut the fuck you and just say your racist ass doesn’t accept that the Seam are stand in for minority races. Having two pasty ass group of people with different hair colours isn’t going make anyone notice or analyze the class divide between the Seam and Merchants. I fucking hate the movies for white washing Haymitch and Katniss because their Seam backgrounds are exactly why they understand each other. They have their own small culture and identity from the merchants.
It also visually shows how Peeta and her mother are outsiders. It’s important. It matters!!!!
And I get why Katniss and Haymitch were white back when the movies first came out, but times have fucking changed and I want the representation that existed in the books from the beginning.
Second of all, you can be biracial and have blonde hair as long as both parents have the fucking gene. 12 is small as shit, people get around and cross townlines from time to time. Shut the fuck up.
I fucking hate it here.
#also I am not too sure#but I think Katniss only describes prim as having blue eyes and blonde hair#so she could have ethnic features but also be white passing#maybe she tans easily#maybe she has thick hair with a less defined curl pattern#that always looks puffy because she brushes it out#thg#the hunger games katniss#the hunger games#seam folk#the seam#merchants#primrose everdeen#prim

( pre - plot drop ) caesar flickerman's afterparty with @primvlas .
new faces are always a welcome sight. a salve against the same narrow people and mindless chatter. and this new face is especially hard to miss, even amongst the crowd of colourful partygoers, each in their own visually loud ensemble. not for the reason a capitolite might think when looking upon somebody from an outlier district either. she's no weed amongst the roses after all... she's the newest of capitol darlings. hers is the very face that had (unknowingly) set this all in motion and cora feels herself drawn to the younger everdeen for that reason in particular. an earnest smile tugging at the corners of painted lips upon approach, ❛ primrose everdeen... hi. ❜
the elder girl suspects primrose of being a far cry from the sort of girls she attends the academy with. not nearly as preoccupied with vanity as students belonging to sweeping cosmetics empires are but every girl deserved to feel beautiful and be told as such. at least cora liked to think so. an admiring wave of her free hand accompanying warm words, ❛ i thought it'd be remiss of me if i didn't come and tell you how lovely you look this evening. is that a cinna creation you're wearing? ❜ her grandfather's souring opinion on the designer in the months following the seventy fourth games was something of an open secret amongst mansion staff. one that hadn't gone unnoticed by cora. she'd certainly never be allowed to wear something as... cutting-edge as what cinna's often seen adorning his district twelve team in but surely, there was no harm in admiring their work? ❛ you know, i wouldn't be at all surprised if you made magdalena's best dressed list tomorrow morning. your sister too, no doubt. ❜

pinky promise | katniss e.
𓆉 katniss everdeen x fem reader
summary: katniss made you a promise before the games, and now that she’s back she’s going to keep it.
cw: fluff!!, little angst, but not much, rain kiss scene bc why not??? sfw!!
a/n: first ever post!! might not be the best as im not that good at writing yet but thats ok. beginning takes place before the games and the end takes place after, time jumps are divided by a dash (-)
wc: 1.1k
your hands brush past the rough bark as you move briskly through the trees, keeping your eyes out. you hear a snap of a twig, causing your movements to halt as you listen closely. a hand places itself in the small of your back, causing you to let out a small gasp as you jump away, turning. you smile once you see who the hand belonged to, walking over.
“gosh, you scared me! you have to stop sneaking up like that.” you grin, katniss smiles back.
“if you’re going to be out in the woods, you have to focus better on your surroundings. who knows whats out here.” she replies and you roll your eyes playfully. she reaches out a hand which you take, interlocking your fingers as they brush against her slightly rough skin.
she leads you further into the woods, stopping at the edge of a lake. you let go of her hand and head to the edge, sitting upon a big rock that rests besides the water. you dip your fingers in, relishing in the cool sensation. katniss watches you for a moment before walking over and sitting besides you. you turn to her with a soft smile and she reaches a hand to brush the hair out of your face, tucking it behind your ear.
“you always look so pretty, especially surrounded by nature.” you blush slightly, turning your head to look at the lake. she smiles at your reaction.
“i’m serious, you really do.” she says softly, watching over your features, her thumb gently brushing your cheek as she holds the side of your face in her hand.
you and katniss had been seeing each other in secret for a while, not wanting to risk anything with the chance of getting reaped still present for the next few years of your lives. you had known each other for only a few years, but it felt like forever. you chew gently on the inside of your cheek, thinking about the reaping which was upcoming in the next few days. katniss noticed the change in your face and her brows gently furrowed.
“what is it?” she asks, causing you to turn back to her. “what’s wrong?” you sigh softly.
“it’s just the reapings… what if one of us gets picked?” a slight hint of worry is in your voice. her hand still cups your face gently.
“it’ll be fine, they won’t take you from me. i won’t let them.” you shake your head slightly.
“but what if they take you?” she looks you in the eyes, gaze unwavering.
“i’ll come back to you. then we can be together.” you nod before holding up your pinky.
“promise?” you ask, to which she smiles softly.
“promise.” she confirms as she wraps her pinky around yours.
-
you sat on the couch, blunt nails digging into the armrest as you watched the broadcast of the annual hunger games. katniss had volunteered for her sister primrose who had gotten picked, and many things have happened since then. for starters, the male tribute, a bakers boy named peeta, declared he was in love with katniss. to make matters worse, you had to watch them as they kissed. you barely focused on the games after that, tuning in from time to time to get an idea wether or not katniss had survived, yet the bitter feeling of jealousy washed over you. you were never officially together, only in secret, so you couldn’t really be mad. maybe katniss just found something better and assumed because it was private then there wouldn’t be a point in discussing it. your stomach churned at the thoughts.
-
the day had come of katniss’ return. of course, she was returning with her newly found lover, yet all that mattered was she survived. at least, that’s what you tried to believe. you couldn’t ignore the feeling that washed over you when you saw the two of them get off the train together, holding hands. you couldn’t stop yourself from turning around and going home rather than trying to greet the other. you also couldn’t stop yourself from staying locked in your house, avoiding any possible encounters with katniss. you could only avoid the inevitable for so long, however.
you find yourself back at the lake you were at only a few weeks ago, watching the small tadpoles swimming around the clear water. there’s a light sprinkle of rain, raindrops falling softly onto your face. you don’t sit on the rock as you did before, instead standing off to the side. you feel a presence, causing you to turn around. you were greeted by katniss who offered a small smile.
“guess you started focusing on your surroundings.” she says slightly sarcastic. you chew on the inside of your cheek, turning back towards the lake. katniss’ smile drops as she walks over.
“hey, what’s wrong? you’ve been avoiding me ever since the games…” she starts, reaching her hand towards yours. the metallic taste of blood slightly fills your mouth as you bite harder down. you focus your gaze on the tadpoles.
“i’m surprised you even noticed, considering your new ‘star crossed lover.’” you mutter. she brings a hand to cup your face and turn your head towards her. your gaze finally meets hers, her hands are softer than before.
“he’s not my lover. it was for the games.” she breathes out a small sigh through her nose. “you are my lover, nobody can change that.” she smiles, and you feel your heart quicken.
you had been jealous of the boy, enough to not see the accomplishment katniss had made by winning the games. you offer a soft smile, shaking your head slightly.
“i guess i was jealous.” katniss lets out a small laugh.
“why?” you gently bite on your lip, looking down.
“because he got to kiss you.” katniss is silent for a moment, her thumb brushing your cheek.
“he doesn’t get to kiss me now.” she says quietly, causing you to look at her once again. her eyes are soft and she smiles slightly, and she starts to lean in. your eyes flutter shut as her lips meet yours. her lips are slightly chapped, but you could care less. she had come back to you.
the rain seems to fall harder as you wrap your arms around her neck. after a while, you both pull away to breathe. you smile at her, fingers brushing through her hair she had chosen to keep down.
“i told you, i promised you.” you nod, giggling slightly. you take a moment to look her over, sensing a new level of maturity she gained from the games. even at sixteen, she seemed older.
“what?” she asks, causing you to focus.
“you’re just so pretty.” you say, and she smiles. you giggle slightly as she places another soft kiss on your lips.
she takes your hand in hers, intertwining your fingers together. you lean your head on her shoulder and look back to the lake, the rain going back to a slight drizzle as it splashes gently on the water.

What's your headcanon for Katniss and Peeta's children?
How old was Katniss when give birth to their daughter?
How many years apart between them in age?
Your headcanon for their name?
Who gets the singing and art skill from their parent?
Bonus question : please give recs of your fav everlark post-Mockingjay fanfic.
Thank you :)
@curiousthg
1)I haven't thought much about katniss and peeta's children but I feel like the daughter got their facial features and eye, skin and hair colour from katniss(but her hair is wavy like peeta's) though their son has peeta's colouring and wavy hair but his facial features are exactly like his late aunt, Primrose Everdeen, and whenever katniss looks at her son's face she gets reminded of prim which never fails to get her almost teary eyed.
The daughter is a complete katniss mini-me(peeta definitely makes alot of jokes regarding their daughter being katniss' mini me) in terms of personality while the son is almost equally like both his parents and his aunt prim(like he is 26% katniss, 24% peeta and 50% prim) in terms of personality.
The daughter, like her mom, is talented in music, archery, survival skills(katniss definitely thought her children survival skills),swimming and hunting, good at first aid, loves fashion(katniss adored cinna's dresses so I feel she loves fashion), is cunning, strong willed, caring, maternal and smart like her mother but she is also oblivious like her mother when it comes to romance and has most of katniss's flaws. She also can't stand to see terrible injuries on a person, just like her mother and is very shy when it comes to romance. She, like her father, loves painting and is good at wrestling as well. She unfortunately didn't inherit his baking skills, her cooking skills is decent but not as great as her father's and she struggles with woodwork.
The son, like his mother, is good at archery(he doesn't like hunting), swimming and survival skills. He adores fashion just like his sister and mother. He got his charms and intelligence from his father, his 'maternal(pr paternal whatever you call it) instincts' from his mother and like his grandmother and late aunt, he is a splendid medic, though his temper is like his father and I feel he is a bit meeker and shyer than his father when it comes to romance and like peeta, he got a bit of people pleasing personality and self-esteem issues. And like his aunt, he doesn't want to harm animals and cried just like her when he witnessed an animal getting hunted. He like, his father, is good at baking but he doesn't have his talent for painting. He is also good at wrestling like his father and he, unlike his sister, is good at woodwork. Unlike his mother and sister, he doesn't have a good singing skills. Both the everlark children are popular at their school and got asked on a date by both boys and girls.
Both siblings are very close just like how katniss and prim were(especially since their daughter is the older sibling in the books)and it never fails to make katniss nostalgic and teary eyed while peeta is very happy that their children's bond is strong just like the bond between his wife and his late sister in-law unlike his bond with his siblings.
I feel like if katniss reconciles with gale, both would be super close to him and he would adore them and would teach them how to make snares and along with katniss,he would take them in the woods for a trip and also along with katniss, teach them hunting and would hold archery competitions. And if gale has his own spouse and children, everlark's children and his children would definitely be best buddies. Finnick and Annie's son is like an older brother figure to them and they have swimming competition(odesta's son and everlark's daughter are very competitive regarding swimming while everlark's son is not that competitive). They are close to Haymitch, effie, greasy sae Johanna, Delly and their grandmother(I headcanon that Mrs everdeen tries to visit her grandchildren as much as she can though in early years those visits were mostly monthly due to her busy schedule as a medic but when panem's health infrastructure got some stability, years after the revolution, she immediately visited katniss and her grandchildren).
They have heard stories about their late maternal grandfather and late aunt and they both admire them. The son especially adores his late aunt and wants to be like her, a splendid medic. The daughter is unsure what career she would take since she likes so many different things but she would either be a singer or a professional archer. Both the children equally adore their parents but I feel like the daughter idolizes katniss alot and she wants to become a person like her mother while her son tends to idolize his late aunt alot. They adore both the trip to woods and archery competitions with their mother and baking and painting time with their father.
2)I haven't thought much about it but i feel like katniss would give birth to them in her thirties.
3) 3 years apart.
4) The daughter is named after her late aunt and I feel like the son would be named after his maternal grandfather though there is a possibility he might be named after a type of bread/bakery product.
5) See point no. 1) .
6)Sorry, I don't read hunger games fanfics, so I have no recommendations for you.

Second Hand Ideas
Coriolanus Snow is thought to have married Julia Pompey. She is thought to have died from Snow's use of poison. Here is what happened between those two events.
Warnings; canon typical violence, coryo, grief, blood, mentions of suicide, suicidal ideation
Julia knew her husband had always been a genius in his own way. He had saved his name and regained the honour of his family. But sometimes, just sometimes, she wondered how much of this was owed to others. How many times he heard something and claimed it as his own when a lightbulb went off above his head.
Julia had accidentally provided her husband with some of his worst ideas. She hadn't meant to do it. An errant comment thrown into conversation, late night discussions with a man who could never have truly loved her.
He hadn't always had the power to act on his ideas, his own inflated self of importance years ahead of how others thought of him. But he had saved them somewhere in the recess of his brain for later use.
Watching the young girl face her audience, watching the grim determination overcome her features as she attempted not to cry. Well it was all just a little bit too much for Julia. She excused herself from the viewing room and locked the bathroom door with shaking hands.
She would die, that little girl. She would die and no one would remember her in a year. No one ever remembered the losers. That was the point. She understood it all. Or at least she had once. She had sat at dinner parties and laughed about it all, like it was trivial. But it wasn't. Those children died.
Julia thought of her own children, her grandchildren. Her babies. Grown as they may be, they would always be her babies. She couldn't imagine the pain that went through the mother's hearts as they watched their children reaped, year in and year out.
Her heart weeped while she attempted to her dry her eyes. He would know she had been crying. He always knew. She suspected he probably had cameras here in this very bathroom. In every room. In every house. District and Capitol alike.
By the time Julia had composed herself and taken her seat the readings had moved on and she watched with an aching heart and a disinterested smile on her lips and children sobbed and volunteered and accepted their faith.
But her mind was stuck on young Katniss Everdeen. Of the blonde haired sister, Primrose, who had been reaped. Of how every slip in the glass bowl had held the same name. Hundreds of times over and they didn't even know it.
An offhand comment, a young girl flaunting the rules, hunting in the woods, selling to peacekeepers. Providing for her starving family. She had no idea what she had been risking. She had no idea how heavily watched those woods had been. No idea about how her father had been killed in an accident that had never been an accident and now her sister's reaping, a freak statistic given she had only been entered once.
"She's protecting her family. Her sister." The beginning of a second hand idea. An off hand comment about the girls derision for the rules made by Julia had accidentally ruined that young girls life.
"She'd break the law to protect her sister. I wonder what else she would do?"
///
Julia had met her husband in a hospital. Not very grandeur or romantic. Just a hospital room with beeping machines, weeping cousins and rattled breathing from an old lady. Coriolanus hadn't cried. Tigris had done enough for the both of them.
Julia had been a medic in training. Assigned the slower cases, the elderly and the terminal. She didn't do much besides record heart rates and administer Morphling. Mrs. Snow had been her patient. She had spent her dying days in the hospital and consequently, Julia had met a young Coriolanus Snow.
She almost hadn't realised his attempt to romance her, as subtle as it was. Romance would be the wrong word. He had a perfunctory plans with which she fit into. She was educated, of reasonable old money, and most importantly, she was pretty.
While Julia had never asked Snow of his past, she had known a substantial amount. She had known of Lucy Gray Baird, the disappearing victor. Snow had loved her. In the only way he knew how. He had, in his own head, owned her.
Julia was young enough to believe that Coriolanus' desire to possess her was love. He was a handsome man with prospects that varied as wide as the imagination. His charm led Julia to believe he could do anything. His vanity led him to believe, and achieve, the same.
They had married quickly as Coriolanus rose in the ranks of game makers, his ideas allowing him to stand out. The renovations of the arena, the victor parades, the primping and beautifying of tributes.
Every suggestion he made was received with praise and rejoicing at the new age of the Hunger Games. By the time the last of their three children had been born, Coriolanus was directly involved with the Quarter Quell. His studies were almost completed and his ideas revered. Every year something bigger and better came from him.
For the Quarter Quell it had to be special. It had to be massive. It had to be his very best idea.
"I just don't think the academy mentors can relate to those children." Tigris had said at tea one day.
And thus the Victors were dragged back to the Capitol kicking and screaming to try and keep those children alive. To fail, over and over in the wider districts because any living mentor from those districts were once offs, lucky escapes and the most fortunate of unfortunate circumstances.
///
By the time their first grandchild arrived on the scene Coriolanus was Head Gamemaker. The second ever Quarter Quell was fast approaching and trouble had been rising in the districts again. It had been making those in the Capitol uneasy and it hadn't gone unnoticed that certain things had become limited such as coal and fruit.
"You can't go back and punish them harder. You can't just make it worse. Is losing twenty four children not enough?" Julia had asked.
The announcement that the victors would be doubled should not have surprised her. It should not have made her gasp. Nothing should have after thirty five years of knowing Coriolanus.
She had learned over and over that truly nothing was below him. She hadn't known everything of course. Not from the beginning or else she was sure she would never have married him. She could've been free. She could've gotten away before she had been dragged under.
She had thought about it once. Leaving. Times had been rough, her marriage on tenuous grounds as her husband's evil began to shine through without shame. He had been a servant, the man who had taught her what love actually felt like.
Her second child had been born only weeks before and Julia associated those weeks and months that followed with a deep sadness. Alarbus had taken notice of her, cared for her when he found her crying. He had tasted the salt on her lips the first time he had kissed her.
Avox's had just began to become common punishment in the Capitol, traitors who lost the use of their voice and had their tongues removed.
Alarbus found out the hard way that it was not a painless procedure. His tongue had been presented in a gift box while Julia had been nursing her daughter. She had almost dropped the baby in shock. Alarbus, who had presented his own tongue under his master's orders, had caught her.
He disappeared the next day, something Julia presumed had to do with the bloody razor left in her bathroom. She didn't know which of her lovers had left it to her, which would hurt more.
///
President Coriolanus Snow. It had been terrifying as his enemies dropped in the months following his Inauguration. No one could argue with him now. Least of all his lowly wife who spent hours avoiding her husband and his greed for more power.
His dinner parties with victors whom he had chosen to be his special pet projects. The young boy with the winning smile, the golden haired siblings, the genius engineer, the razor toothed beauty. All his to keep and show off. Rewards and bribes for powerful men and women.
He ruined everyone he touched. His own cousin had cast herself out, ruining her beauty just to remove association to this monster of a man. A monster she had tried to shelter from the darkness, not knowing it lived within him.
He had brought this darkness onto himself. He had followed his ideas to the end, his weapon had become a double edged sword. Punishing Katniss Everdeen for trying to keep her family alive had brought an end to his reign. The Capitol looked just as it had when Julia was eight and bombs and gunfire were the sounds she associated with daily life.
A full circle had been formed. They had returned to the dark days, all because of her husband's obsessive watch of the District 12 fence. Hoping that one day his song bird would climb it and return. Hoping one day he would get his chance to own everything he had ever wanted.
Instead he had taken her free spirit and accidentally set it alight with the districts.
The last straw had been the song.
Something ticked in Coriolanus' jaw. A muscle, a nerve. Julia didn't know. What she did know was that the end was near. The Hanging Tree echoed beautifully around the empty viewing room. A wine glass sat to Julia's left. A glass that was always within reach but she had never drank from.
Her husband had gotten drunk and loose lipped once. He had told her of Lucy Gray Baird and Sejanus Plinth. So now Julia laughed because she knew Lucy Gray Baird would have. She knew Sejanus Plinth would have. She knew the rebels would.
She lifted the glass while she laughed, looked her husband in the eye and drank deeply.

As requested, Mr and Mrs Everdeen (I think I read a fan fic once that named Katniss's father Jonquil and I like that. I also like the idea of him having a beard). And then the actor who played Mrs Everdeen in the movie said that she thinks of her as Clara (I also like this name for her. It seems like one of the ones that would continue on from now into the time of the books--like Annie). Those flowers in Clara's hair are Katniss blossoms and Primroses. I tried to make her look a lot like Prim and to give Jonquil more of Katniss's features.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Catching Fire is a superior sequel. It expands the world first established in The Hunger Games. More importantly, it develops the characters further, raises the stakes and deepens the romantic plot. It’s a film aimed at teenagers so the love triangle is prominently featured but anyone watching will be engaged, particularly when the stakes rise to this height.
Hunger Games winners Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) have won a life of luxury, but it comes at a price. While the nation demands to know more about their beloved sweethearts, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) keeps a close eye on the young woman. Despite Snow’s threats, nothing seems to squelch the flames of rebellion rising inside her, leading him to take drastic measures.
There are essentially two parts to the film. The first deals with the fallout of the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss and Peeta made it out alive by pretending to be in love. Now that ruse has to be maintained. While Katniss pines for Gale (Liam Hemsworth), she is forced to smile for the camera and pretend she couldn’t be happier about what happened. Meanwhile, she’s having nightmares about the blood she spilled. This drives her to try and reach out in kindness to the families of the deceased tributes. It only makes things worse. More attention, more interviews, more chances to screw up. The first film made the time outside of the arena interesting by showing us that she lacked the necessary skills to charm the sponsors. Hunger Games 2 brings in political aspects that make it clear the teenagers are in way over their heads. Katniss is being drawn into a rebellion against the Capitol. All she wanted to do was live. Instead, she's being transformed into a symbol; something that belongs to everyone except herself. What could’ve been teenage drama feels like the weight of the world, and it only gets heavier from there.
During the second half, Catching Fire finds a way to cleverly deliver more of what brought us to the series in the first place: the titular games. Thought the danger was real last time? Now it’s even worse. It’s completely overwhelming and it all seems even more insurmountable by the fact that Katniss and Peeta’s strategies won’t work a second time around.
Once again, this series shows off plenty of inspired costume and visuals. The extravagant hairdos and dresses of the Capitol speak volumes about the society that tolerates these sacrificial gladiatorial games. It’s a great example of the tight direction by Francis Lawrence, who delivers the drama you’d expect out of teenage protagonists but doesn’t overdo it. Though Gale still needs further fleshing out, many of the side characters, including Effie Trinkey (Elizabeth Banks), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) and Katniss’ sister Primrose (Willow Shields) get an injection of personality and growth. There is a lot going on here and all of these elements are well-balanced.
Meatier and with higher stakes than its predecessor, Catching Fire is a sequel that proves this franchise has a lot to offer - and not just to teenagers. Young adults may get the most of the drama and romance but everyone will be gripped by the complexity of the politics at work and enthusiastically awaiting the next chapter. merlin's beard, lydia longbottom (kaylee kaneshiro), is that you? it’s been so long – i thought you might’ve been dead! i mean, you never know in times like these. well, it’s good to have you back in the fight. come on now, there’s no time to waste – we need you to re-enter the fray within the next 48 hours, or else i fear all might be lost. don’t let us down – the world is counting on you.
[ she/they, queer ] greetings to all of our listeners! we start today’s potterwatch with a long-awaited update on lydia mai longbottom who was finally spotted alive just last night, wandering the streets of london. for those of you who haven’t tuned in before, they are a 24 year old pureblood hufflepuff alum who is oddly reminiscent of quiet bravery and steadfast loyalty; neatly pressed robes; the warm, enveloping sun; doe brown eyes, delicate features, and a sweet disposition hiding an imposter syndrome that threatens to swallow you whole; blowing a futile wish on a dandelion and watching it disappear into the wind, praying that it will somehow come true; perfectly curled hair tied together too tightly with a yellow ribbon; a desperation to save everyone you can, even to the detriment of yourself; missing people you shouldn’t miss; hands that only know how to heal, not destroy and primrose everdeen, beth march & lucy pevensie, which makes sense considering their idealistic, compassionate, conscientious, over-compensating, naive, and self-conscious nature. you might know of them as the adopted child of neville longbottom and hannah abbott, and we’re sure that their family will be relieved to hear they’re safe and sound — or at least as much as you can be, in times like this. to all our listeners, if you catch a glimpse of someone who looks a bit like that muggle kaylee kaneshiro, that’s them. before approaching, please be aware that they’re rumored to be affiliated with the knights, so best proceed with caution. these are dangerous times we’re living in. well, thanks for tuning in, folks. we’ll play ourselves out with smother by daughter. @mega-aulover sorry your tags were too long to screenshot, but:
1. Katniss having the exact lyrics memorized means nothing because one, we're not sure how much Suzanne had written/figured out of TBOSAS when Mockingjay came about, but likely she kept the same lyrics for ease/recognition. Also, Katniss learned the song from her father, not her grandmother so the exact lyrics survived at least 50 years and through at least one if not two generations anyway. And since Mrs. Everdeen was frightened of her daughter singing the song, it was obviously known to everyone in the district. Katniss explains it stuck in her head more than the others because it was forbidden. If Mrs. Everdeen hadn't made such a big deal of it in front of Katniss then she likely would have forgotten. And even if her ability to memorize songs is genetic, why can't there be another ancestor she has who is similarly talented from District 12? Why does that talent only belong to Maude Ivory? Even if it's rare, there couldn't be ONE other family in the district with that genetic component? As you mentioned Katniss potentially having autism, if that plays a factor in her ability to memorize music, then that broadens her potential ancestors who could have had a genetic component in this ability even more, as Katniss's autism could manifest differently than others in her genetic line. The "Maude Ivory can remember a song by listening to it once" is more of a plot device to explain how all of these songs were passed down even if only heard once than proof of a direct relation to Katniss.
2. As far as I remember, we don't get a description of Maude Ivory's appearance so we don't know if the Everdeens have any physical features that are similar to her. And biased Francis of course cast a blonde-haired blue-eyed girl 🙄 But genetics is indeed random and complicated enough that a Seam line and a merchant line could produce a Primrose. Gray eyes are just a variant of blue eyes, and given the area, the ancestors of District 12 are likely a mix of indigenous, African, and European ancestors anyway, so even a Seam family like the Hathornes could have had a blonde-haired, blue-eyed child.
IMO we lose a lot of D12 culture and thematic importance by having Katniss related to the Covey, and one line in TBOSAS is not going to let me dump all of that for some Star Wars bullshit Only-Two-Families-in-the-Galaxy-Matter garbage. Suzanne Collins will have to publish another book in this series explicitly stating otherwise for me to acknowledge any kind of legitimacy this theory has. And then I will just criticize her for that choice.
I am an open hater of the Katniss-is-related-to-the-Covey theory for many reasons, but one that grinds my gears is that in using the shared musical talent as "proof," it assumes that the Covey have the sole ability in District 12 to have musical talent. In a district of ~10,000 people (assuming the population remained relatively stable) they are supposedly the ONLY six people who can play instruments, sing, remember songs, write songs, etc??? And ONLY their descendants have the ability to be similarly talented???
Nope, sorry. Don't buy it.

In a place far from where she’s familiar, Katniss attends a rehearsal dinner for her best friend, Madge. What happens when the night does not go as planned?
———————
I
Katniss Everdeen has always been self-kept, never needing much from anyone or anything, for so long she relied on wits and instinct that when they placed a plate of food in front of her: she nearly gasped. Not only was it a plate of food, but it was half a plate of snails, another bowl filled with what looked like a soup and steam fried vegetables on its own solo platter. There was wine of insane amounts of money, she guessed they were all preserved just for this occasion, their deep, maroon liquid hadn’t even enough room to move within the bottle.
She sat at a long table, nearing around a dozen and a half feet, each spot was filled, each person having large amounts of hairspray, hair gel and cakes of makeup. Katniss counted around seven sets of false eyelashes that made these people look like dolls. All of the seats filled with blondes or either fake blondes, curvy and with surgeries perhaps everywhere noticeable, puffy lips and sucked in cheeks. Some of them had wider blue eyes than she had seen on a dog, maybe even a cow, ‘doe eyes’ her father would’ve called it; most of them searing, bright blue or crystal with just depth as a thousands leagues. Madge Undersee, her friend, the reason why she was there, had features similar to these. It came to Katniss as funny that these people change their appearances just to look like someone else they know, not one inch of themselves being original anymore; their emotions and morals might as well not count either, they all acted the same and felt the same way about everything. It made most of them boring, a superior type of boring, with helicopters on their terraces and gourmet chefs and butlers, nothing was original with them: all complained about the economy and how hard it was to get a decent housemaid. Madge was like them too, yet somehow she liked Katniss and wanted her as a friend.
Katniss had no idea why.
Madge Undersee was to be married to a Mellark, Madge Undersee was also the daughter of the mayor, and the mayor happened to be the mayor of one of the largest and finest cities in all of Panem. The Mellark’s were a family well known as well, having chains of the most upper-class restaurants in the country. A match ‘made in Heaven’ so they called it, Katniss guaranteed there was something to do with business and the support of Mayor Undersee’s next election but put that aside and never spoke of it; she hoped she was wrong, Madge was a friend. Yet the way the couple looked at one another showed nothing besides a friendship. There was not a spark in their eyes or a rush of blush filling their cheeks when they saw each other, Katniss’s parents had that, her mind told her that was what love was. But she’d never know, she’d has not yet loved someone like that, and doubted she ever would.
Madge had also asked Katniss to be her maid of honor, which apparently was a big deal, big enough for her to get a fancy, silk and pale yellow dress to wear and a free makeover tomorrow at nine in the morning. Something she would of refused to if it weren’t for Madge. Katniss hated dresses, and by hate she meant she only owned one, and even that one was too big for her. In fact, it was the one she wore at the moment, her mother’s dress, something she had not dared put on ever. It was a soft baby blue with an even darker, smaller floral print, cut off at the shoulders and cupping her wrists. Definitely not her style. Or her mother’s style that she recalled. It would’ve been something like her younger sister’s, Primrose. Katniss’s mind fell deeper into her own abyss of thoughts, telling her what to do and what not to do, making intricate plans and agendas on how the rest of the night would fall, the only thing breaking her own, personal, kept silence was the chirp of knife hitting a glass.
“To Madge, to Rye, may this be the last night of your freedom.” Mayor Undersee announced, a petty clap rung about the table, pierced lips turning upward into a fake smile by just about everyone she looked to. Even Rye Mellark’s family—the man Madge was marrying the next day—owned fake smiles, their other son didn’t even smile at all. Katniss didn’t even know his name or if he was just another copy-and-paste of the Mellark heirs. She lifted her wine glass like everyone else did, tried not to spill it, and brought the sweet yet bitter taste to her lips. It had been a while since she drank, usually it was a beer or a shot of tequila but never enough to revisit her old self; the one she left behind. So Katniss only took one sip and retreated to water.
Everyone talked except Katniss, having little to nothing interesting to speak about, at least not compared to their all similar conversations. She focused on the snails on her plate, “Escargot!” The woman next to her said, she had large blonde curls that somehow maintained themselves, lipstick staining her various napkins and enough powder on her face to load a cannon. She had said her name earlier but Katniss purposely forgot it, “Oh, thank you.” She nodded and followed the woman in cracking open the shells and dipping the actual snail into a sauce. After one taste she had officially decided never to eat escargot ever again and turned to the soup, which was surprisingly delicious. Something she’d never imagined the taste of before, below the surface of it was pulled apart porks and those meats had soaked in the liquid they resided in; it tasted like butter and broth but there was so many spices that hid those simple ingredients. For a few moments she got lost within herself again and spilled something hot in her lap. Katniss grimaces and reached for a cloth to retract the stain from her mother’s dress, and once she began to feel like a fool and everyone brought their attention to her, Katniss excused herself and left for the restroom.
There was a hot flash of pain on her upper thighs, where she suspected was where the soup had spilled, inside the stall she lifted her dress and analyzed the burn. “First degree” the voice of her mother said, Katniss knew she was not there, but she knew that the small voice inside her mind was right. The burn was first degree if not less, it was red and hurt to the touch, like a sunburn. “Cold water, not ice” her mother said again. Katniss went to the sink and sighed in relief when the cool towel navigated her thigh.
She looked into the mirror as she applied another set of cool cloth, she looked like an idiot. At least that’s what she thought. And compared to the others outside, she was very different, a wild card, something you wouldn’t expect to see at a function this classy. Technically, she’d pass for “Seam”, the lower class of the city, a word they used as branding, something that wasn’t an accomplishment. They could be identified by their clothing and grimacing features and they owned their own part of the city, with just about the most original name they could come up with: The Seam. Basically, if you lived in The Seam you were poor, unworthy of anything special and where stared at in supermarkets by mothers who would tell there kids to look away. Katniss wasn’t always Seam, she wasn’t even from the Capitol—the city she currently lived in—it just happened to be that she was Seam when she entered, and she will be Seam forever.
Katniss hurried out the restroom and remembered her way back to the dining hall, two lefts a right. Bam. She fell to her bottom and shook her head to rid the daze. “Not again,” Katniss huffed, feeling another liquid stick to her mother’s dress and deep into the white tiled floor. In front of her was boy: a blonde boy of course, with the same blue eyes as everyone else had and tall, lean frame than made him look too much like a businessman.
“Forgive me, I’m so so sorry.” He asserted, lifting Katniss up from her spot on the floor, red wine began to drip from her fingertips and run down her legs.
“Please. Don’t.” Katniss urged. Shaking his hand away and fidgeting her eyes away from his gaze. Usually Katniss would have yelled and started something she normally couldn’t get out of quickly, but this time she decided she didn’t want to do anything at all, what could she do? slap him and risk the ultimate scolding from a the mayor or worse CEO. There would be no chance for Katniss anywhere, she’d have to start all over again, she couldn’t tempt anyone here.
“What can I do to help?” The boy looked at her dress which was now covered in reds.
“Tell Madge that I’ll see her in the morning; the least you could do.”
Katniss stormed off towards the elevator and clicked the button towards the ground floor, her walk would take around an hour or so, the same amount of time it took to get there, she now had to do it in the dark and soaking wet. She did not look at the boy again, but she thought of him her entire walk home, his curly blonde hair and scared wide eyes, like he would care if he spilt an entire bottle of wine on her. She was more concerned about what would happen to him for spilling an entire bottle of wine. Her mind began to fill with various things: the feel of her old mattress that somehow soothed her, her fathers voice that sang her to sleep, the look on her face when she had opened the letter than changed her life around five years ago. Now the world felt so different, something she’d never of expected. People usually try to plan out their lives in their youth, claiming to be lawyers or superheroes or both, Katniss had similar dreams too, dreams where her life would begin and she’d do what her father asked her too every night. Seasons, skies, faces, they where all different now, memories had faded into fragments of glass that cut deep into grief. The smog seemed orange and fared into flashing reds and yellows at the blinking of lights above her head, growing in the distance was a thunderstorm in the southeast, the homeless rested on park benches.
