“you look like a goddess,” it’s out of nowhere, as basil’s praise often was. he smiles at his wife and leans over her on the couch to press a kiss to her mouth, and then another, “and if you’re not feeling like one, then tell me how i can help change that, and i’ll do it...” / @lucidlunar​

basil loved being a dad. proud of their son and all the little developments he made. from the first time he smiled to the way he held his head up, his chest burst with pride and he never failed to share a hundred (and one) pictures of their bouncy baby boy with his teammates, sure that they needed to see every, little milestone too. deep down the man knew that their inability to get him to sleep was down to a myriad of reasons and not down to a failure to parent him successfully. his mother had said it was colic and that was incredibly normal for a baby his age. that had helped ease his fears, and now he would do all he could to stay calm; hold him close and help him sleep, aware that it was normal, and not because of something he was doing wrong. "my mum said it usually gets better after three or four months, so hopefully now...we're reaching that point." he explains, sure that she'd have told maya that, too. josie never failed to provide them with all the titbits she had, making sure they were as equipped as possible. "we really do need us time, feel like i haven't lied down and held you like this in..." cue the snort, "three months..."

"thank you." they were in this together, a solid team. it was hard sometimes, trying to do things and knowing that it wasn't working and that it probably never would. except that it would work after a few more tries of it. it just felt like the end so often, when maya was trying to help quinn to sleep or get him to feed. but basil was always there with her, trying to soothe her and quinn together, keep them floating. she likes to think she does the same with him, when he's the one struggling. her fingers stroke through his hair once he's laying over her and maya sighs, dropping a kiss to his head. "if only he'd realise how nice it is and do it more often," she mutters, a small smile tugging at her mouth. it could be frustrating, seeing how he fought sleep and seemingly wanted to be awake and with them all the time. but it only made these moments so much sweeter, so much better and she's always eager for them, getting alone time with her husband. "i love him so much, i think i might love him a little more when he lets us have some us time, though. need this."

My ‘sweetest’ Favorite 2019

The TOP 60’s experience wasn’t satisfactory, due to bad audiences (because of too long videos) and too much work (we don’t have the time to make it). lips purse and eyes narrow as basil genuinely attempts to work out the answer to her question. then it hits him and eyes widen, glistening with excitement. it had been a rough weekend thanks to his own stupidity, so this little nugget of joy was exactly what he'd been needing. "the jersey!? did the jersey come!?" he asks then, beaming back at his wife, taking the bag from her grasp ever so carefully, never willing to snatch anything away from her hands. he opens the bag and his beam only grows when he takes in the sight, pulling it out and holding it up againt his own frame. he looks silly, but excited and overall it's a pretty adorable image. "my gosh, look at it!" he pouts. he's so excited to be a dad, he's so excited to be living this life with the love of his life and he'll be damned if he ever lets her question that on account of his mood souring for other reasons. "god, it's adorable. they're going to look too too too cute, baby!"

"baby!" the door slams behind her and she winces, carrying her little bag with her as she practically waddles into the house. she's about ready to pop but when kiera had sent her a message to say that the jersey had come in, maya refused to wait for basil to get it. she had timed it well, knowing he would be home right before she got back and she left him a note in case he worried. since she wasn't just carrying herself but their little peanut now, too. she's practically buzzing with excitement as she holds the bag out to him. "guess what came in!"

"i can't believe it, either." not that he'd stopped staring at the little boy since the moment he'd entered the world. he'd heard stories about men falling even harder for their wives, and he could understand it. watching what she went through; her power and bravery was otherworldly, so whilst he'd loved her entirely prior to watching her give birth to their tiny, squirmy baby boy, he was so infinitely proud of her, so in awe of her. leaning in, he presses a kiss to her neck, to her jaw, and the corner of her mouth. "you're incredible, maya. i'm so -- i couldn't be more proud of you, you did that. you kept him safe for nine months and you bought him into this world so wiggly already. i love you."

"i got him to sleep..." he repeats dazed, can hardly believe that's an accurate depiction of the situation. the little boy didn't seem to enjoy sleep, whilst the pair of them had always considered one of their top five favourite ways to pass the time. after crying on his mother's shoulder about the struggle it had become to help the little boy drift off, she'd offered a few tips, assuring him that they might not work, but that they'd worked for him and his siblings. being calm was paramount and he can safely say he can't remember the last time he'd been that, so he figured it was worth a shot. "i love you." long lashes flutter, lids heavy as he shifts to lie down next to her, wrapping his limbs around her, koala-ing for all intents and purposes. "he looks so peaceful when he's sleeping." a soft hum escapes through the words, allowing his digits to stroke along her abdomen, keeping himself as close to her as possible.
