Behind that cloak
Tumblr media
Pairing: Guy of Gisborne x reader
Word count: 1,401
Summary: You’ve taken a habit of escaping when the life at palace becomes too overwhelming, but you do not expect meeting anyone, especially if that someone is sir Guy of Gisborne.
Your arrow pierced the air, like scissors when they cut fabric, directly to the handmade target and onto its middle. Sighing in contentment, you dropped the bow and went to retrieve the weapon.
It was these little moments that brought you happiness and peace; those moments when the hustle and bustle of palace couldn’t reach you.
Being a princess was difficult, even though a lot of people wanted to be on your place, which made you ponder how long they’d last before giving up.
As you looked at your little village, crowned by the castle, you couldn’t help but wonder: this freedom will be forever? It was clear that the answer was a negative one, as you’d become someone’s bride if it depended on your parents, which in your case it did.
Trying to push those thoughts aside, you went to continue with your daily training when a rustle of leaves alerted of someone’s presence. Putting your hoodie up, you climbed the nearest tree with feline grace, setting up in a branch enough to see the person but not to be seen by them.
The rustle continued for a while before a black steed appeared on view, mounted by a man. You’d never seen him before, but by his posture he seemed someone demeaning, and therefore potentially dangerous for the people if he was a foe. As he looked up, god knows why, you took your time to study his features: pale skin, pointy nose, thin lips...He was undeniably handsome, but the permanent frown on his face made you rethink your first impression. Grabbing your bow properly, you aimed for a trunk beside him, and shot.
Guy was less than happy to make such a long trip to talk about business for the sheriff, but if he wanted to secure his position, then he’d no option but to make the journey. He really didn’t know much about the village, apart that it was essential if they wanted to have a chance to capture Robin Hood. Just the thought of the reason made his blood boil.
Looking up to the sky, he took a moment to take in the surroundings, just before an arrow just passed right before him, directly to a trunk.
"Another step and I won't hesitate to bury it in between your eyes" The commanding tone in your voice made Guy turn around, unsure of the location of his attacker "Show yourself!" He exclaimed, dropping off his horse to take a closer glance.
That baritone voice shook you for a second, nevertheless you didn't back down, unsure of what his next move was going to be.
When he saw that the mysterious person hesitated in appearing, he took out his sword "Are you that much of a coward? Attacking secretly without the chance for the opponent to fight back?" Biting your lip, you sighed in defeat. You knew it'd be quicker to finish him like that, but what if you were making a mistake and starting a war?
Guy was aware taunting was dangerous, but he knew he had struck some feelings when he heard movement above him.
A cloaked figure, brandishing bow and arrow, dropped in seconds, landing perfectly "Who are you?" Now that he listened more intently, he recognised the voice as a female's one. Even though he knew it was impossible, it peaked his interest to know who the piece of clothing was hiding.
"I want to see the person behind this cloak" He took one step, and in return you took one back "I will not show myself, if that is what you're after" At that, he smirked wickedly, as he saw you straightening your posture "My, my, you've quite the nerve, m'lady" "Do not call me that" "What shall I call you then?"
God, this man was really infuriating you "For no name!" Straightening the arrow, you looked at him straight in the eye "Now…Tell me why have you come to my land" He laughed at that, a full blown one "Do you think I'll tell you why am I in these lands?"
That was the signal you were awaiting for.
"I know you won't tell me-" Shooting, you watched as he dropped his weapon, hissing at the friction "-But I do not want any funny business in my territory..Do you understand, darling?" Right now you were almost chest to chest "So…This is what you're up to if you try anything" Using your cockiest tone, you packed the arrow and turned "It was nice talking to you, handsome, but I've got other things to do"
Just like that, you disappeared from his sight leaving him dumbfounded, and much to his dismay, aroused. How had she dared to humiliate him like that? And without showing herself!
Growling, he mounted the horse and ran to the village, already fed up of it even before entering it.
Your feet pounded on the grass, as you ran to your home "(Y/N)! Where were you?!" Your father was shouting at you just as you'd stepped on the door "Somewhere…" Trying to excuse your presence, you found your way blocked by two guards "I cannot have my daughter doing some god forsaken activity like an outlaw! Martha, get her ready for the guest!" "Guest? What guest?" Was all you could muster before being pushed inside the bathing room.
"M'lady, you've got dirt all over you-" the young maid sighed "-Archery again?" Nodding, you smirked "Indeed, what am I supposed to do if not?" "Rule, be a proper princess, prepare for the guest…You're lucky he had a bit of a delay"
After fighting with the corset and getting yourself ready, you looked at your reflection: the ponytail was gone, now being replaced by your (H/C) cascading over your shoulders; your cheeks were now sporting a pinky dust, making you look angelical "M'lady, your presence is requested by your father" Martha inquired, smiling sympathetically.
Huffing, you entered the throne room "Father?" "Ah yes, perfect" He smiled proud "This is the daughter I know" That earned a roll of eyes "Why was I needed?" "Today you'll be accompanying me with our guest. I know he's come here for negotiation, but upon knowing his position, I bet he'd make a great husband"
Of course, the day you think about your worst fear, your father mouths it, just your luck.
"I've told you before, I will not marry for a position. If anything, for love" "I know what's best for you" His demeanor changed in a second from happy to hostile. The topic was very delicate, and you felt as if you were walking upon thin ice.
The conversation was cut when a guard entered "Your highness, the guest is here" "Let him in" The suspense was killing you. Who had seen your father that was that good to bring up the topic of marriage?
"My dear (Y/N), let me introduce you to sir Guy of Gisborne" Just as he said that, the man you'd just engaged conversation that same day and, most importantly, shot two arrows at, walked majestically to your father, greeting him properly "Lady (Y/N)" Those piercing blue eyes met yours, and you thanked silently that you wore your cloak "Sir Guy" As you spoke those words, his pupils dilatated, realisation stricking him.
He'd to admit that she was really beautiful, but at the same time he felt stupid for being scared of that little thing right in front of him, so delicate yet so dangerous.
As for you, you felt as if you were being pulled to him. Those eyes were telling you a story, one that you didn't want the end of unless you wrote it yourself.
You spent a few seconds like that, just looking at eachother's eyes.
The behaviours had been exchanged, now him being the cocky one and you the shocked one "Have you met before?" Your father interveened "I do not believe so" The answer came too quick, and for a moment you thought you'd heard Guy chuckling, but it was just your imagination, wasn't it?
Your father seemed content with the answer, and just turned to give orders to the staff, before inviting Guy to a meal "You know, I much prefer these kinds of meetings with you, m'lady, or shall I not call you by any name?" He whispered in your ear, earning a chill down your spine. Looking up at him, he was wearing the same trademark smirk, making you blush "We will finish this conversation later, but please, do not wear your cloak this time…Or anything if you want to"
Gasping, you wanted to slap him, kick him in his royal jewels and just start throwing arrows as he flashed one final smile before disappearing behind a closed door. But you couldn't do anything, as his request left you torn.
Should you evade the situation, or give in to your own desires?

It’s essentially all of Coppola and Cassavetes’s wide-ranging interests brought under one roof: rare cameos of Sonic Youth, Naomi Campbell, Beck, and behind-the-scenes views of Paris Fashion Week Queens Are From WICHITA KS KANSAS shirt. you know, before iPhones. You’ll even find a hot Keanu Reeves stranded on the side of the road with a motorcycle. It is basically a wet dream for ’90s nostalgia enthusiasts. It was what we were into and what we had access to,” says Coppola speaking over the phone from her home in California. “It wasn’t a comedy show. I don’t really know how they let us develop it.” A student at Cal-Arts at the time, Coppola tapped her friend Zoe Cassavetes to co-host. Very loosely, the theme for the show was, well, all-things hi-octane: muscle cars, monster trucks, and stunt double drivers. In other words, girls getting rowdy in cars. (Coppola drove a vintage 1969 convertible GTO back then. “It would stall in the intersection of LA and I couldn’t fix it,” she says. “I was kind of a poser to have that car, but it was fun.

Me picking distastefully at the Death Note Live Action
(Totally not a blog I wrote on Amino that I copied here)
*Inhales deeply*
BOI
Iz yo local Lanthenides juliani’s pinky toe here, your all-time most dependable Death Note fangasmer, with a long rant.
The sky has fallen, the sinners in Death Note hell are screaming, and DN fan trash like me are creating Dead Seas with our sheer salt.
Why?
The 2017 Death Note Netflix remake released its trailer.
Woah woah, back up a bit m8. Let me get you guys up to date on what this whole fuss is about.
The Death Note Netflix remake… Where to begin.
Essentially, Netflix is making an American “adaptation” of Death Note. But oh boy, they aren’t sticking to canon. Here’s an overview list of some… “interesting” changes.
🍿The theme of the movie is now “revenge”.
🍿Light Yagami™, with his signature “imagaY” last name joke, has had his name changed to Light Turner. Played by Nat Wolff, currently struggling through a pimple outbreak.
🍿Consequently, his father, Soichiro Yagami, is now James Turner, played by Shea Whigham.
🍿Misa Amane is Mia Sutton, played by Margaret Qualley, a cheerleader grill who falls in steamy love with Light-friggin’-Turner, because the director wanted to keep the “adult themes of Death Note”
🍿Evidently the director never watched nor read Death Note. In an interview, he confirmed that, to keep the adult themes and dark atmospheres, there will be a lot of gore, a lot of nudity, and a lot of language.
🍿I’m not sure about you, but that doesn’t sound like the psychological thriller we know and love.
🍿Keith Stanfield as L.
🍿If you don’t know: Kieth Stanfield is AFRICAN AMERICAN. Not to be racist here, but a big part of L’s character is his alarmingly pale skin and scrawny frame. Suddenly, we have this hoodied black man walking in oublic and attending interviews. Real canon of ya, Netflix
🍿HE’S IN PUBLIC
🍿The producers trashed the basic plot of Death Note and opted for something more… redeeming. Details are not provided, but it is known that it will be more Westernized. While that may be a welcomed change, it’s make or break at this point.
🍿THEY ALMOST REMOVED SHINIGAMI
“Our vision for Death Note has always been to…introduce the world to this dark and mysterious masterpiece. The talent and diversity represented in our cast, writing, and producing teams reflect our belief in staying true to the story’s concept of moral relevance — a universal theme that knows no racial boundaries.”
“Oka, one of the producers of the Netflix Death Note
Okay. So I’m not going to even try to protest Death Note getting another adaptation (I mean, it’s not like it has three live action movies, one live action drama, one musical, three video games, three short live action mini episodes, one long live action New Gen. series, etc., etc., ETC.,) but seriously.
Are they even trying at this point?
Let’s check out the cast first.
Nathaniel "Nat” Marvin Wolff as Light Turner
This dude played Isaac in the Fault in Our Stars, and Quentin in Paper Towns.
Take a moment.
This kid did some great things, I’ll give him some credit. Starred in some romance movies, raised money for 9/11 as a young kiddo, wrote some cool music.
But is he a fitting actor for Death Note?
I say no.
Firstly, Light is portrayed in the manga and anime alike as a handsome, clean, and upkept young man groomed for success. He has severe god complex, and is the very definition of “perfect” in the eyes of others. I just don’t really see that in Wolff. While I will not criticize him for his appearance, I do believe in something for live actions: Same, or different. Not both. Stick to canon or change everything. Don’t give us a haunting afterimage of the Light Yagami we all knew.
Keith Stanfield as L
Okay. So-
No, not okay. This is not okay.
If you did a next generation of something of Death Note, sure, go ahead, I don’t give a flying fu-firetruck about the detective L being black.
But the original L?
No.
L’s off-putting appearance is destroyed by Keith’s natural appearance. Keith is a friendly-looking man, but L is supposed to look malnourished, like a living ghost, He is scrawny and underweight, 110 lbs at 179 cm (don’t ask me how I know off the top of my head). His pale complexion like he has never seen the Sun is a key compartment of his character, and while I do think diversity is good, I feel Keith cannot do justice to L’s character.
Onto acting.
Why the HECK is he standing behind a podium with a hoodie and his head dipped.
Let’s see here. Male, I can estimate his height, African American, both eyes intact, hands intact, probably can get fingerprints off the podium, people taking PICTURES of him and being able to capture some facial features…
No.
L is mysterious, paranoid, keeps to himself. He uses a goshdarned voice synethesizer for God’s sake, it’s what makes his appearances so epic. WHY are you putting him out like that? Just… why?
Oh, and he’s a rapper.
Margaret Qualley as Mia Sutton
Sigh.
Paul Nakauchi as Watari
I’m actually not minding this one too much, though his loving, fatherly aura got swapped for a more severe one.
Other characters
Can we just pray…
My Opinion
I honestly don’t have much to say. I’m not too excited, in fear that this whole thing may ruin what I love, but I guess it’s a new and innovative take to the anime. The “whitewashing” I can sort of understand, since this is a film in English, after all, and it’ll be easier casting characters this way.
For months, the Death Note fandom has raged about black L. I would once again like to say that I don’t mean to be racist, as even many of my black friends agree with me; I am a minority race myself in America. L is one of the only characters who are in this film who originally was of European descent (¼ Russian, ¼ British, ¼ Japanese, ¼ French or Italian).
The legitimate ONLY character they can get away with “whitewashing” for, aside from Watari.
But no.
Forget sticking with canon. Let’s take Death Note for its established fanbase, and just use its title and its character names to bait viewers, what a great idea! Give them something completely different that marginally may be good, but forget about canon, we’ve got to break everything they’ve ever known about Death Note! Change the plot and make it rated R too, how about that? Because no one cares about the fact that that’s not what Death Note is about.
This thing will either be complete sh- poop, or somehow succeed solely due to its $40-$50 million budget. But in all honesty, my problem here isn’t it itself. It’s how they wanted to be different and the same at the same time.
Anyhow, here’s the promised trailer. Tell me what you guys think.
AND NOW FOR THE FUN PART

“Honestly, the live action remake is supposed to make the fans happy. This, however, put the fans in a rage. I mean, the guy who plays Light looks so unintelligent. Light is supposed to be a well-organized man, but instead they made him into this messy guy with pimples whose name is "Light Turner”. Did they seriously have to change the name too? It’s not even death note at this point. Just some crappy rip off.“ -Rae

Developing My Script
Having spent a lot of time working on everybody else’s ensemble pieces i was unsure how to go about mine. All the other pieces in our show were performed by one person with the help of the rest, using our bodies to create shapes, or our voices to build up tension etc. I felt I needed to do the same.
I wanted to do something self expressive with my rap skills, but I knew it was not enough to just rap. Tori in the other group had built a skit for her variety show where she got to act out a scene of trying to get a job in a strip club, so she got to show off her belly dancing. I thought I could maybe do something similar but take a real piece of my life, something autobiographical. Not only did I want to preserve a moment of my life and capitalise it, i wanted to honour my Grandma who raised me. I had re-watched a video I uploaded to youtube of her singing, and I felt it would be nice to make something out of that. However, my idea never felt Cabaret enough considering what the group and I saw at the Proud Cabaret. The acts were very self expressive, there was more jokes than narrative from the compare. It was not like watching a play like i’m used to or watching a variety show on the BBC. It was a series of dances, with nudity, skill and novelty. I definitely had skill but the rest did not appeal to what wanted to achieve.
Pressing on, I decided to create a performance which had Divine playing my grandmother stuck in a hospital bed, interrupting me while I tried to record music in my room, then had the others in my group popping in to play nurses during the performance of my final song, then have a moment where that before mentioned video would play and end the section. I was nervous about this however, as I thought the movements and the changes looked a little messy in rehearsal and my group played along but I could tell they weren't so serious about it. We tried it a few times and had something we were OK with but I really wanted to see how the rest of the class would receive it in a feedback session.
I performed this in front of the class and was surprised with the feedback I received. Ad’s and the rest of the class agreed my performance would be better stripped back to just having me performing on stage. At first I found it hard to visualise as I felt like I needed a visual representation of my Grandma. but as I did impressions of my Grandma it seemed people warmed to that more than having Divine there. I was massively inspired by Conrad Murray’s performance (There are clips on this feed). It would be a kind of stand up, but with a heart. I was relieved, and more inspired when I begun to put a script together.
This is what I came up with:
Dan & Nan
 -1st light
I was raised by my Grandmother in Coventry who went blind when I was around 11 years old. That’s when I became a young carer.
Funny thing is even when she went blind she was stubbornly independent. She would cook, do housework, even go shopping and walk faster than anybody who dared to accompany her.
Grandma was the strongest woman I knew, she raised 8 children with my grandfather, then took my brother, sister, and I in when we were young and raised us too.
Grandma was a real old-school Jamaican Christian woman. Our Sundays were ruled by church and women in hats bursting out in the Holy spirit (impression). I was a good kid too, I was the top of Sunday school. Then I became a teenager.

8 mile came out and we went mad. Every lunch and break time at school we would rap battle each other and if you lost at break you had better write something in 3rd period. Then, I was probably 13 when my friend james introduced me to Channel U (which is now called AKA) and I was exposed to Wiley, Crazy Titich, and a whole roster of grime pioneers. Grime had swept the UK and suddenly there were gangs of boys in every school huddled around a Sony Eriksson phone bluetoothing instrumentals and showing each other their new lyrics.

When I got my first job I spent most of my money on recording equipment for my bedroom and some turntables. I started being known in my area for my music and I wanted to do more. In the meanwhile however Grandma became sicker and sicker until she was bedbound. She had lost the independence she was famous for and proud of and totally reliant on my siblings and I, and the district nurses. Of course, I didn’t mind, but it could be annoying at times, especially when I was trying to record.

So I fix the pillow and its like trying to get the right picture on an old broken television or find the right frequency on an old fm radio but eventually I get it and I’m free again. So I run back upstairs.

Back down stairs I go. This time she needs a cup of tea. So I make her a cup of tea in her beaker but it’s a long ting because she can’t hold it herself her fingers and arms are rusted up by arthritis so you have to feed it to her. Of course its too hot. So I put it aside to cool.
 I try another song but I get interrupted again to go give her the cool tea, which is now cold so it has to be done again. This time I wait until its just right and just before she takes a sip she says;

 Grandma; Thank you Jesus.
Me; Did Jesus make your tea?
 Grandma; What you mean?
Me; I mean what about us? We do all this stuff for you do we get a thank you? No, but Jesus gets all the thanks and all he does is hang on the wall looking like Noel Edmonds.

I’ve done it again. Tripped the Jesus wire with my insolence. I get an earful about how nothing is possible without God and Jesus. But to be honest since Grandma has got like this I just refuse to believe in it all. Not to mention I’m a grown rudeboy now, I haven’t been church in years I blaze weed, link gyal and keep a butterfly knife in my sock in case Jesus doesn’t save me when it kicks off in a house party.
I’m also quite annoyed with Jesus. If he has any power at all she shouldn’t be in this condition. Shes been repping Jesus since she was born, she knows the Bible like the back of her hand and she has never let him down. But time and time again he lets her down. He lets my whole family down. I can’t stand to hear his name to be honest.
She’s such a soldier such a trooper. All I can see is her strength and her resilience, and I am living in her accomplishments. The house Grandfather and her worked years to buy and raise 8 children in. Jesus didn’t pay for that, or help raise none of them. Only 2 of them still do church. Everyone else is fucked up like me.
I shoot Jesus down every time she mentions him. It’s brainwash from slavery. Turn the other cheek and all that stuff slave masters would tell their slaves so they would work day in and day out and not fight back or fear the hell of a whip across their back for disobeying the master. I’m learning that once upon a time black people weren’t slaves, we weren’t Christians we were pharaoh and kings of empires. I try to tell her, and its interesting but not quite registering.
I love you Grandma but I wish you believed in yourself as much as you believed in Jesus.

-My script makes use of the Self Expressive mode, mixed in with the Representational mode. It is essentially a one man show where I act out all 3 of the characters which include:
-Myself in the Here and Now (Narrating)
-My younger self as a teenage rapper (Grime artist) Performed
-My Grandmother
My piece is definitely a Storytelling performance which could use techniques from book: Popular Theatre A sourcebook (p114 paragraph 4 Storytelling the languages of Topeng) where it speaks of storyteller character Penasar Kelihan from a play called Badbad it says:
“The first storyteller to enter is Penesar Kalihan. His entrance, accompanied by the usual shaking of the curtain and flourishes of the cymbals and drums, reveals him to be proud, flamboyant and commanding. He has age heart laugh of an enthusiast and dances n an exaggeratedly macho fashion that pushes the dance to the edge of parody.”
My narration and character while playing a younger me would require me to have a certain amount of charisma, and a certain amount of youthful bashfulness especially as a young grime MC. Most Grime MCs and rappers are stereotyped to perform with a level of aggression depending on what their style is. Grime was for the most part an aggressive genre when I was growing up and reflected the lives or experiences of young boys involved in gangs or street culture in the city.
On the other hand as a narrator and schizophrenic actor (portraying myself and my grandmother) I would exaggerate things, exaggerate my teenage machismo, and also exaggerate my Grandmothers’ behaviour somewhat. Mainly to make the performance comedic, and show the contrast between the two sides of myself i am portraying. On one hand I am a young teenager being aggressive and ‘cool’. On the other hand I am portraying the struggles of a young carer, and the struggles of an elderly woman. I would not be wearing any costumes (apart from the essential hoody) so my quick transformations would have to be fluid and easy for the audience to follow.
I indicated lighting in my script but that was abandoned. I wanted to do as Conrad Murray did in Denmarked, I had planned to use lighting show the changes, but feedback from the group changed that. I was advised to try using my position on the stage to illustrate the different characters and move in a triangular way in the boundaries of the one stage light.
-I would be slightly stage left as the narrator
-I would slide centre and slightly further back in the parts between my grandma and I
- I would use most of the front stage to perform my rap parts
