ALRIGHT so I used to have 3 major AUs involving Lyon and Manakete stuff: - Lyon becomes a manakete bad timeline AU - Lyon becomes a manakete good timeline AU - Lyon is human but befriends a manakete and becomes a good emperor

Lyon becomes a manakete bad timeline AU:

Eirika and Ephraim fail to stop Fomortiis, but manage to destroy the remnants of his body, so he's forced to keep possessing Lyon's body instead and slowly transforms his body in hope to regain his old powers. Magvel descends into a new Dark Age, half of its royalty died during that first fight against the Demon-King (I forgot who exactly die in this AU but at least Eirika and Ephraim, one of the Frelia siblings, and a bunch of the other playable characters). Seth, the last Frelia sibling and L'Arachel become the spearhead of the human coalition, but the fight won't end with their generation (I think at some point I vaguely started a FE8 gen 2 with Seth's daughter as the lord/leader?).

Knoll decides to risk everything for his prince and sides with the Demon-King in hopes to bring Lyon back. Because Lyon still is trapped in his body, under the Demon-King's soul. And trying to transform a human body into something actually usable is exhausting for Fomortiis, so sometimes his consciousness fades just enough for Lyon to barely reach, and though he can't talk, he's receptive to Knoll's magic attempts. Those rare moments keep Knoll going even though he has become a traitor to mankind, especially in the eyes of those he fought with during the Tragedy (Seth especially wants him dead because Ephraim trusted Knoll and Knoll betrayed that trust by siding with the Demon-King), and the awful things the Demon-King forces him to do to stay at his side.

Lyon becomes a manakete good timeline AU:

Remember that time Lyon tried to get his hands on Myrrh's dragonstone? Well, this time he manages to secure one, and Myrrh's help, and together they figure out a way to use the dragonstone's power to bind Fomortiis' power. But they can't figure out a way to remove the Demon-King from Lyon's body, so to replace the Dark Stone he shattered, Lyon becomes the new Fire Emblem, a living prison for the Demon-King. The dragonstone is implanted in his chest and helps him keep Fomortiis under control, but harboring his soul + being bound to a dragonstone turns Lyon into a manakete himself.

Deciding he can't live with humans anymore, Lyon hands over his throne and his people to Ephraim and Eirika and leaves with Myrrh and Knoll. The twins keep in contact with them and visit them whenever they can, and even though Lyon was reluctant at first, he eventually acknowledges he's grateful for their friendship despite what he's done.

Not a manakete Lyon AU exactly but I still love this one so I'm gonna share it anyway.

Myrrh wasn't the only manakete who sensed the darkness approaching and tried to reach the Dark Stone before something bad happens. That other manakete reaches Lyon before the Dark Stone is broken and the Demon-King released, and warns him before the damage is done. The two of them become strange friends and it helps Lyon immensely to have a friend constantly nearby and not held by duties and family in another kingdom, as weird as a dragon friend may be.

When Vigarde dies, Lyon doesn't utterly crumble thanks to this support, and when he is crowned emperor himself, he becomes known for always having at his side a strange mysterious advisor few people have ever seen the face of, and for riding the most beautiful wyvern in all of Magvel (rare are the ones who know it's actually a transformed manakete). He becomes known as the Dragon Emperor, a wise and powerful mage, brings prosperity to the Empire and surpasses even his father in the history books, ending up being compared to Grado himself.

Damn! 2 chapter completed for my new Fire Emblem fic. I think I honestly just needed something new and refreshing for my brain to work on. I haven't abandoned any stories. And im still working on other wips.

But honestly it feels so nice to stretch my brain writing about different characters for a diffent story. This Sethrika fic wont be very long. Aiming for ten chapters or less. But it feels nice to write anout these characters ive adored for 17+ years.

Im not posting the story until its nearly complete just because I know its not gonna get any traction or readers and i dont want to accidentally discourage myself. FE8 is 20 years old, and I cannot imagine it has much of fandom anymore.

I know ya'll follow me for my other content. YGO, and once upon a time you might have followed me for Miraculous. But I am REALLY loving working on this Fire Emblem Sacred Stones fic.

I realise I am going to have to do a lot of thinking of how changing the time period would affect Magvel so I will say this: this AU will take time, but that's worth it for me because I genuinely want to get this to be better than things I've created before. OH MY GOODNESS. Okay, so, I PROMISE I haven't been ignoring this ask..... I just had to put together something a little special for it!! I said I've thought about modern!Lyon a LOT, and after reading this list... you can be the judge of that.

First of all, artwork of the boy!!

Next...... everything else. This one is for you, Lyon fans (warning for a wall of text; I normally don't talk this much on this blog, but this is ABSOLUTELY a special occasion. You asked, and I deliver!!)

Firstly, our boy is – and I cannot stress this enough – a TOTAL fashion buff. His wardrobe is huge and he has an outfit for basically any occasion ever.

He wears a lot of loose-fitting stuff that kinda gives hipster/tumblr user, especially with the tattoos and glasses (lmao) but he can pull off any style if he tries hard enough. you can ALWAYS tell that he knows how to dress no matter what he’s wearing.

I don’t really have anything specific in mind that his tattoos represent – it’s a random collection of things that tapers off around the end of his forearm. There’s like, roses and thorns and swords and maybe even a dragon in there somewhere. He also has one separate tattoo on the back of his hand.

Dude’s got the round glasses, too! I’m 50/50 on whether he actually needs them to see, but I think it’d be cute if he did. Makes him seem a bit more nerdy hehe

He collects pins as well (most of which are pinned to his schoolbag). An ongoing list of them would be:

Mogall: a monster from his favorite video game (that happens to be on the GBA, perhaps).

Rose: a reminder of the twins, Eirika in particular because she gave it to him.

Sword: specifically the FE logo from Smash.

Bi heart: You Know.

Wolf: reference to Garm (Grado lore)!!

He’s also got total rich kid & city boy energy. He lives an extremely lavish life (I’m talking, like, chilling in an expensive bathrobe after a rose-petal bath, while sipping on a glass of red wine) because he’s dramatic like that.

And THAT’S because single-father!Vigarde makes some massive amount of money doing whatever business he does. He supports his son like the cool (if a little distant, because he works so much) dad he is. Lyon’s not completely reliant on his dad’s money, but he’s never had to scrape by, if you know what I mean lmao

Vigarde also contributes to his son’s college fund (we’ll come back to what Lyon is studying later) and helped him finance his own solo apartment.

Speaking of the apartment, it’s pretty spacious and has a modern look, w/ red brick walls and big windows overlooking the city (exactly the kind of interior you’d expect an art student from some crowded urban area to live in). He also manages to keep the whole place surprisingly tidy despite being kind of a shut-in lol.

The most important thing about his living space, though, is the indoor plants. you can barely even SEE through all of the plants he owns in certain places. It’s like a jungle in there.

And he dotes on every single one of them!! Instead of becoming a crazy cat person, he just became a plant parent instead…….. He is visited by a moody black cat (named after Fomortiis) sometimes, tho.

His place also has a good amount of art displayed around. Photos he took of the twins throughout the years are pinned on the wall next to his bed…. he likes to keep them close while he sleeps :)

And about the photos – he’s great with a camera, and I like to think he’s got a job in photography (it’s maybe also what he’s studying in college)! And not just that, but I also think the twins work with him regularly – it’s related to what they do for a living.

Eirika & Eph are his childhood best friends who temporarily moved out-of-country when they were all teens, btw. They later reunite with him in their 20s and it’s super sweet!!

True to character, he’s always had gigantic crushes on both of them; as an adult he’s still too shy to ask either of them out though lol. Especially because they work together. As it stands, all he does is admire them from behind his camera.

Eirika adores all of his plants – and cat!Fomortiis too 🥰 she visits Lyon as much as she can, and they bond over their fashion knowledge (Eirika is a cosplayer for SURE) and love for the same music/books/movies.

Lyon has a dozen of her books laying around his house (her recommendations). She leaves little notes in them sometimes, and it REALLY doesn’t help him think about her less.

He & Eph don’t share nearly as many interests, but they also hang out constantly. Eph is the one who drags Lyon out of his house to go do stuff together, which he appreciates (in hindsight).

Lyon’s always wanted to be athletic, charming & comfortable in his body like him, and regularly mistakes Eph’s attempts at flirting for him just being an asshole (affectionate).

But anyhow, everything else related to his character is basically straight from canon. He's a complete bookworm, knows a bit more about first aid than the average person, has a pretty weak immune system, struggles a LOT with his self-esteem, is introverted like his dad but likes making friends, and so on and so forth.

The "knows how to dress" part is probably the most important thing to emphasize here. He's one of the best-dressed guys in Magvel, I PROMISE that's true (but dw, Joshua is up there on the list as well).

So that's all I have to share!! I think more and more about him as time goes on, and will probably come up with more stuff, but this is just about every headcanon I've been rotating in my brain thus far. Hope you enjoyed this - and I hope I've convinced you into some of these concepts (like photographer!Lyon...... I want to believe 😳). He's pretty fun to imagine as a modern guy doing his silly modern stuff, but I'm sure you already knew that. This boy deserves all the love. <3

I feel like FEH's nature as a gacha game ocasionally causes IS to have to twist certain characters around so they can better sell them to FEH's audience, like the Fallen Corrins; they're taken from the end of Chapter 5 of Fates, a chapter where they're stuck in their dragon form, have practically devolved into a feral animal who attacks anyone they see, and whose maximum speech capacity is to grunt and roar in pain/exertion/anger.

Since a character that's completely incapable of speaking would be less desirable for the average player than someone with actual voice lines and confessions, they wrote themselves into a corner and had to invent a weird version of Chapter 5!Corrin where they've already gone on their rampage and returned to normal after Azura calmed them down, but for some reason are stuck being forced to unwittingly use their draconic powers in exchange for severe pain and an urge to give in to that side of themselves again; none of that tracks with what actually happens in chapter 5, where they show no signs of struggling to control themselves after regaining consciouness, especially not to the extent the Fallen ones do, and are very quickly given a dragonstone by Azura to make sure they can't go berserk again and can control their dragon powers properly.

The Fallen Corrins explicitly say that their friends and family helped them regain control of themselves and that they're ashamed for hurting Azura, so unless these Corrins both hail from a world where their dragon blood is inexplicably significantly more powerful and possessive than it ever was in Fates proper AND were summoned into Askr during the ridiculously short time-frame between being told that they went berserk and being given the dragonstone to stop that from happening again, the entire concept is broken from the start; all because IS couldn't just market a mute angry dragon to their playerbase in their gacha game.

It's the same reason they did what they did with Fallen Linus; sure, a mindless mute zombie isn't the most interesting of characters, but there was no need to include that version of the character into FEH if IS already knew they wouldn't sell well without heavy changes to the source material in order to make them more marketable.

More seriously, as a rule of thumb, I'd prefer if FEH kept characterisations the character had in their original games even if, as you said, some alts definitely need to be... modified.

You mentionned the Fallen Corns, but in general, a lot of Fallen Heroes fall under that banner, Fallen Julia exists for the last half of the last chapter in FE4, Fallen Ike is an AU, Grima(sses) were created from scotch and glue, Fallen!Bilthis apparently cares about her kid (obviously an AU lol), etc etc...

I still am completely baffled at what they did with Fallen!Vigarde like sure, he was given lines from his zombie self in FE8, but the part where he goes "my power is to great for this vessel" or something is completely bonkers, Fomortiis only possesses one dude from that family, and that dude is Lyon. Remove Fomor-Lyon moving zombie!Vigarde's strings, and Vigarde is barely something more, uh, "sentient" than Monica (yes, the one from FE8 if you're wondering).

I ranted enough about how I fucking hated the FB between Lyon and his possessed self - maybe to sell Lyon as something more than a mere tool played and sacrificed by Fomortiis who preyed on his ambitions - and if that was supposed to sell me more on Lyon, then good job devs, FEH's Lyon is, imo, not FE8!Lyon thus not the character I care about.

Granted, I rant and rant and rant, but I'm also someone who's overjoyed when, saaay, FEH pisses on the source material when the source material sucks, like Julia has more characterisation in her base intro than in her entire game(s) because the devs see her as something else than a falchion with legs, and I've already ranted about Fodlan, but in general, IS seems to want to "correct" some stuff that came out wrong in earlier games (or piss on certain lolcalisations).

And it's always kind of difficult, with seasonal units, to come up with lines, like take Deghinsea for instance, all of his lines in the games are, hm, very serious and not light at all. And yet, he has a cute Halloween alt that would feel in-character, so to say, with the giant bald lizard we kill at the end of FE10.

But when it comes to creating a new unit from scratch (Altina? Ullr?) sometimes things work because the new thing created from scratch feels coherent with the world they're supposed to come from, and sometimes it's way more, uh, muddy (Elimine?). And you can bet I'll be overjoyed if mythic!Willy is released, or mythic!Indech/Macuil, even if it means the devs will have to invent a lot of things to make those characters feel like characters and not... pixels with new skills (but then they didn't care about that when they made Nerthuz...).

In the end, I think it's still the old discussion when talking about a fanwork, is something OOC or IC ?

And even if Heroes was developped by IS too, like the base games, sometimes the OOC comes out too clearly. Sometimes, everything works because the fanwork that is heroes works. It all depends on the twist IS uses to, as you said, sell characters.

I just hope that potential remakes won't use FEH as a base (with the twist they brought to characters) but use the... game being remade as a base, even if it clashes with the FEH characterisation.

Like, I'd hate it if a Sacred Stones remake characterises Eirika only as the naive princess depicted in the FE13 DLC or the "I want to be like my brother" brave alt, while removing the "Enough. Hold your tongue." part of her character.

You entering a trace and emerging with an age list of (I presume) every FE that you’ve ever played. It happens. I get it. (I do have to point out that Saizo and Kaze are twins, so maybe we split the difference on their estimates? 25? 26?)

Mostly however I am going to be thinking about the 13-year-olds tier. There is such powerful energy there. I don’t know what’s going to happen if you put the three of them in the same room, but I know it will be happening, and there is no force on all the continents that could stop them if they put their mind to something.

hearing your takes on valter are all so wild to me because they're truly so different from what i thought back when i played fe8 like. this man was a deep-seated tragedy that had his humanity stripped away by circumstances out of his control to me and what we saw in the game was effectively a corpse being puppeted around without a single remnant of his former self but you've managed to make him... somewhat wholesome? and i cant honestly say that i hate it? pie how did you do this?

I didn't learn about his backstory until like 3 months after I fell in love with him so I romanticized his insanity thinking that was just how he was. I did later make some aus where he does get a bit of his noggin/humanity back and those are mostly hurt/comfort and a lot more serious and sad than the silly goofy stuff I prefer doing. Mostly it's just Valter remembering who he used to be and mourning his old self and wishing he could go back, and that desire to become loving, kind and patient again is what makes him search for a solution.
