A Wall of Cakes
AN: A little late for dragon dearest's birthday but here we are!
Pairing: Sylus x fem reader
Genre: Hurt and comfort
Summary: The jam still had to be made. The icing needed to be whipped. The Mephisto topper had cracked and needed to be fixed again. There was still so much left to do. And gods, you were so tired.
(I do not own these characters)
You stirred the batter slowly, jaw clenched, repeating the words over and over in your head like a prayer. "Do not overmix. Do not overmix." Your hands trembled as you folded the spoon through the thick mixture. You couldnât cry yet. Not while the batter was still too delicate.
With a quiet sniff, you poured it into a well-greased pan, tapping the sides gently to even it out. Then you stood back, alone in the kitchen, the distant sound of windchimes drifting in through the open window. It was a soft afternoon, the kind that felt stolen from a Ghibli film, warm, sleepy, peaceful.
And it hurt.
You turned slowly to face the wall. Stacked on the counter, lined on the shelves, filling every inch of usable space- cakes. Dozens of them. Youâd been baking nonstop for three days. There were too many for one person, too much sugar in the air, too much exhaustion in your limbs. Your arms ached. Your eyes were rimmed red. Your back screamed every time you moved.
But the last cake was in the oven now, rising with careful pride.
You slid down to the floor, sitting cross-legged in front of it, watching the batter puff upward like it was trying to become something worthy. It mesmerized you, the slow expansion, the tiny movements that only happened if you stayed still long enough to notice.
This was your love language. The labor. The sugar. The sweetness. This was how you gave your heart, quietly, steadily, with flour-covered fingers and raspberry-stained sleeves.
The jam still had to be made. The icing needed to be whipped. The Mephisto topper had cracked and needed to be fixed again. There was still so much left to do. And gods, you were so tired.
You glanced back at the wall of cakes. So much work. So much love. But your throat ached with something too big to swallow.
How else could you save it for him?
How else could you make sure he had cake every birthday, even when you wouldnât be here to bake it? How else would he know? That he was loved? That his birthday tore your heart open with joy every time it came around?
Your lips trembled. A tear fell down your cheek and landed on the front of your apron. And then another. Buried beneath the soft windchimes and the gentle hum of the oven, you sobbed.
Not loud. Not dramatic. Just⊠pain that had nowhere else to go.
Would anyone bake for him? Would anyone know how much he loved food? How ravenous he could get when something reminded him of home? Would they know to stack three layers, not two? That he preferred raspberry over cherry? That he craved something savory after sweet?
Your chest cracked open, warm and full and completely broken.
This wall of cakes was a desperate attempt to preserve a piece of yourself in sugar and flour, to rebel against time, to leave something behind that he could hold.
But fate doesnât honor sweetness. Love doesnât keep cakes from crumbling. Even magic canât stop time from stealing things you worked your whole life to protect.
You looked down at the recipe page in your lap. The paper was soft from handling, creased at the edges, smudged in places where youâd been too tired to care.
You smoothed it gently. If nothing else⊠if you couldnât be here to bake for him forever⊠maybe the words could last. Maybe someone else would find them. Maybe someone would know what this meant. Maybe someone would make this for him, with the same care you poured into every spoonful.
Maybe your love could survive this way, not in legends or stories, but in scribbled instructions and crumpled notes passed down through quiet pages.
Because all you really wanted was for Sylus to be loved. To be celebrated. To be held and kissed and fed. To have someone sing to him while the cake baked. To see him the way you did.
His birthdays did this to you, every damn year. Broke you, inch by inch. Scared the living hell out of you. Because how could they not?
No matter how many cakes you baked, it was never enough for your own heart. Nothing could stretch your short life to meet the length of his. And what if...what if your next life was too far away? What if you came back wrong? What if, next time, you were the one holding the sword to his throat?
You couldnât know what was worse, forgetting him, or hurting him. So you baked. And baked. And baked. Until you couldnât cry anymore. Because even if you were forgotten⊠even if your name didnât make it past this kitchenâŠ
Youâd leave behind the recipe.
And that would have to be enough.
Sylus closes his eyes as the cake melts on his tongue.
His breath catches. His brows furrow.
Itâs the same.
Exactly the same.
Not close, not similar, the same as the one you used to make, all those years ago. The texture. The sweetness. The faint sharpness of raspberry in the center. It hits his memory like a blade pressed to old scars.
Itâs so achingly familiar that he almost canât bear it. His chest pulls tight, his throat locking up. And suddenly, he wishes he were anywhere else, somewhere alone, somewhere dark, somewhere far from the eyes watching him now.
Eyes that look too much like yours.
Theo sits across the table, waiting. Their posture is quiet, tentative, but proud. Hopeful in the way Sylus used to see in you. The same crease in the brow, the same twitch at the corner of the mouth when theyâre holding back a question. The resemblance is more than physical. Itâs soul-deep.
Sylus breathes in slowly, and looks down at the half-eaten slice on his plate.
It had lived. Somehow, your recipe, your memory, had survived.
Not in the pages of a book, or the ruins of a house, but in this: a slice of cake, placed before him by the child you both made.
His voice is rough when he speaks. âIt isâŠâ He pauses, swallows again. âHow did you find it?â
He doesn't mean for it to sound so sharp. The emotion is too close to the surface. His fist tightens on his knee beneath the table. He wonât cry. Not in front of Theo.
Theoâs gaze doesnât waver. âIt was in one of your old books. The one with the leather binding.â They hesitate, glancing down at their own plate. âIt fell out. Just a page. But it had my name on it and a note from mom.â
He goes still.
Theo continues, quieter now. âI thought it was just a note at first, but there was a recipe. It looked... loved. So I tried it. For your birthday.â
Sylus doesn't respond right away. He canât.
The ache in his chest turns molten. Itâs too much, the taste, the voice, the memory of you standing in that same kitchen, whispering his name as you baked. The sound of windchimes outside the window. The soft glow of afternoon light through flour-dusted air. He had tried so hard to forget how much he missed it.
But here it is again.
Not a dream. Not a memory.
Theo. Your child. His child. Sitting across from him, offering him you on a plate.
Somehow, the fates had bowed to a mortal long gone. Somehow, time had relented, just for a moment, to bring your love back into his hands on his birthday.
All the way from the day you stood in a quiet kitchen, baking a wall of cakes. Back when Theoâs faint heartbeat had unknowingly begun to flutter inside you. Back when you wept between frosting and jam, wounded by grief and hormones. Your son had listened and fought fates.
He finally looks up, blinking through the blur at the edges of his vision.
âThank you,â he says, barely above a whisper.
Theo smiles, small and real. âHappy birthday, Dad.â

Making sense of Suzumi Hiyori's Story
OKAY SO. I've been reading a ton of comments on JPTwt and also the comment section of Hiyori's new single, and a complaint I've seen a lot is how her story doesn't make any sense.
So I want to try to untangle all of the threads of her story and make it more cohesive.
As such, there will be spoilers for the HeroineDev novel, and I'll be going over hers and Nagisa's MVs too.
I will be ignoring the anime version of multiple chapters and such because even the timeline on some make absolutely no sense at all. I will elaborate further below.
Here we go~
First of all, we all know the beginning of Hiyori's story. She grew up in Izumo City, and was friends with Nagisa since childhood. She was invited to do track at Sakuragaoka, and since there was no track at the high schools there, she agreed. She arrives in Tokyo, finds out that she needs to work part time to live, and ends up getting her job as LIPxLIP's manager, where she forms a bond with them, and they end up requesting she stays since they're all friends now.
We on the same page? Good.
So HeroineDev starts off with the Sports Day festival, which is typically held in late summer, which matches up with where Nonfantasy ends, with LIPxLIP's summer live.
(In the anime, the sports fes is like, what, episode 8? 9? AFTER the romance and everything, not to mention everything was all botched, so for simplicity sake, we'll just go off of the novels and MVs, since HeroHei and SukiUso are about Hiyori and Nagisa's arcs anyway)
Hiyori, after attending a live show with LIPxLIP (Ft4) ends up meeting Asuka, and immediately develops a crush on him after he helps her up.
Afterwards, Hiyori just can't stop thinking about the handsome, kind guy, and heads to a book store one day, where she ends up finding him. Coincidentally, he works there!
So she thinks it must be fate! She wants to be a heroine so badly, and if she gets this wonderful prince, then she can become a heroine!
So, she begins to visit the bookstore more often as an excuse to see him. He helps her find books, and she reads them, which develops really nicely.
She even reads her horoscopes and carries around things as silly as maracas in hopes of getting good luck in the love department.
Which, of course, leads to Aizou and Yujiro finding Hiyori carrying such things around and, of course, they begin to tease her, wondering why she would be holding them in public. Of course, they end up taking her away to a karaoke room for privacy so they can get her to spill the tea.
She ends up admitting she's fallen in love, and after they tease her, she refuses to give up.
Thus, later on, at work, she tries to write a love letter to Asuka, which, upon seeing her atrocious spelling and grammar, Aizou makes her rewrite the letter over and over again, until he and Yujiro are satisfied.
Of course, being so exhausted, Hiyori ends up forgetting to write her name on the letter, and after giving it to Asuka's manager to give to him, she realizes this, which causes LxL to make fun of her and laugh, until she ends up crying because she felt so stupid.
They feel bad for making her cry, and hear her out on how much she really likes this guy, and agree to help her. They promise "To deliver Cinderella to her prince". (I think it's important here that this is what they said, and I'll go more into detail on that later).
Which...she fails at. Again.
So they decide to dress her up, finding staff to get her costumes and...well, no dice.
SO they take her to the mall to get all gussied up to confess to this mystery bookstore guy! They wish her luck, much to her gracious joy, and they watch as she meets up with him.
Only....
It's Asuka! Their rival!
They stop her from confessing, and chaos erupts, with even Kanata joining in because why not, ig? After hearing police sirens, though, Hiyori grabs Yujiro (who had been arrested once before, thus she was worried the cops were after him), and hightails it out of there. Kanata and Aizou run off too, and poor Asuka is left standing there in confusion. (He's the only good guy, really...)
Hiyori's makeover is now a mess, and her heels are uncomfy, so she kicks them off and Yujiro apologizes for ruining her confession, and she decides to try it again, more as herself than as the gussied up version of herself. No heels, hair a mess, just...her.
Asuka lets her down gently, explaining he's trying to become an idol with Kanata and catch up with LxL, and Hiyori promises to be a fan, and the two separate.
But she was rejected. So of course, she's crying now.
Her makeover is ruined, she was rejected, and she's alone now. Crying her eyes out.
Only...she's not alone. Yujiro was waiting for her, sees her crying, and comforts her...in a very Yujiro-esque way, and walks her home. Because right now, all she needed was a friend, and Yujiro knows this. He saw her deflate and try to hold her head up high to confess to Asuka. And he knew that Asuka was trying to be an idol, so he likely suspected she would get rejected.
Not to mention, Yujiro's more kind than he lets on anyway, he wouldn't abandon her like that.
Anyway, a bit of time passes, and Hiyori's still trying to get over what happened. She's getting over it, but she's still upset, you know? But she continues on anyway. And even after rescuing Yujiro from getting injured, making up with him, and all that, she never feels like a heroine.
She admits she was reckless (after a long, drawn out fight), and just wants to be friends again.
There's a timeskip after this, so this will be where Nagisa comes in from the MVs. The anime pretty much has the full story, while the MVs are shortened versions of it.
Just to note, while I will be going over what happens in canon, I'll be changing the reasonings for things to fit the narrative and make it make sense.
Hiyori has healed from what happened, and is moving on, continuing on as LxL's manager in training. One day, she gets a call from her childhood friend, Nagisa, about him coming to Tokyo so they can see Ft4 together.
Given Ft4 aren't actually idols, and how popular they are, it isn't unbelievable that they have multiple concerts within a few months of each other.
Hiyori is a bit nervous, since Nagisa is...well, Nagisa, and she remembers what he once said when they were like 4 what he said about her looking weird in dresses. Despite being over what happened with Asuka, this stings more than ever.
She still doesn't feel like a heroine, after all. So she avoids the topic of dressing up for the concert, fearing that Nagisa was right. And clearly, the incident with Asuka proves he was right.
Eventually, Aizou and Yujiro catch Hiyori admiring the cute clothes and, in their confusion, they make her fess up what's wrong. So she admits the truth.
How Nagisa told her when they were tiny that she looked weird in dresses. And then she admits to them:
"With...what happened with Kaido-kun...I feel like Nagisa was right. I don't want to dress up anymore. I wanted to feel like a heroine, but I never will now."
This whole thing is hitting her really hard, and her depression would make much more sense, since she's feeling worse about herself than before, since she got rejected.
But Aizou and Yujiro know that with some cleaning up, Hiyori can look cute!
Before, they called her Cinderella going to her prince, and now this time, now that they have the full picture, they promise that she'll be a heroine for reals.
Cue shopping montage 2.0.
But this time, they try a different outfit, because duh. They go back to the old hairstyle Hiyori used, though, since it was really cute on her!
So they meet up with Nagisa, who disapproves of them right off the bat. The two then realize that Nagisa seems to harbor a crush on Hiyori.
Well, after everything that went down before, and knowing what Nagisa has said to her before, you can't blame LxL for getting protective.
The three find a moment to speak alone, of course...
Where Yujiro and Aizou want to ensure they're right, and make sure that Nagisa had good intentions with their friend. She's been through a bit much with Asuka, and her self esteem had taken a plummet, so forgive them for wanting to make sure this is the right guy, you know?
After insulting Hiyori left and right to Nagisa's face, Nagisa finally stands up for Hiyori in anger, and lets it slip that, yes, he loves her.
Now satisfied, the two silently give their blessing. They believe now that Hiyori was in good hands, and decide to support Nagisa in his romantic endeavours.
They still tag along to the Ft4 concert, though, to make sure Hiyori was okay.
But she's fine! More than fine! Ft4 is as amazing as before, and Nagisa is infodumping so much about them!
After the concert, seeing as how Hiyori was totally happy, LxL leave them alone.
Nagisa ends up making dinner at Hiyori's for her, and notes how happy she was.
Hiyori admits that LxL has helped her a lot, not giving details, but explaining how they were there at her low point, and she really appreciates them as friends.
Nagisa is jealous, though, and has to admit something...
He tells her that back then, as kids, he just thought she was too cute, and...well...he likes her.
hiyori.exe processing? hiyori.exe processing!
As she's silent, slowly trying to catch up with what he said, he excuses himself and leaves, embarrassed and not wanting to push her for an answer.
Hiyori finally processes what he said and is in a total daze. She does research, she can't focus on anything...she can't even sleep!
After all, being confessed to is different from pining and confessing to someone else. She isn't sure how to take being on the receiving end of a confession! She even finds herself wondering... "does Kaido-kun ever feel this way..?"
She ends up meeting up with her friends at a little restaurant to get their advice.
She doesn't ever fully give them the story of what happened with Asuka, fearing that they would be in disbelief that she confessed to someone so popular trying to become an idol. She just admits that she's been rejected before, and that after the rejection, she ended up going back to formalities with him. Instead of referring to him as his first name, she went back to his surname and an honorific.
She admits she's worried about doing this with Nagisa too, and it may ruin their friendship.
Of course, her friends wholly encourage her to follow her heart and that he was likely worried too.
After she leaves, Hiyori thinks back to her own failed confession with Asuka, and recalls how he said that he wanted to be an idol, and that was more important to him than anything.
She thinks more about his response, how it wasn't really a "no", just...he can't right now.
This leads her to think about her own life. How she has a job as an idol manager, how she has track, and school work, and she wants to hang out with her friends who she sees everyday at school..! And Nagisa...lives so, so far away.
So she catches up with him, and rejects him, telling him she doesn't have the time for a relationship, she has too much to focus on.
And Nagisa...totally understands.
Their friendship isn't ruined!
Hiyori then feels the need to add that his confession made her finally feel like a heroine.
She thinks about how Asuka, the protagonist of his own life, must have felt this way, and she now understands his feelings. That, plus the fact someone as charming as Nagisa liking her, finally makes her feel better. Truly better.
Nagisa, however, gently messes her hair up, and tells her wholeheartedly:
"You are a heroine, Hiyori. To me, ya always have been."
Which makes Hiyori melt a little.
Of course, she chooses to go back to her usual clothes now, and things return to normal.
Of course, LxL are shocked that she rejected Nagisa, but they back off, seeing her admit that she's happy to dress up here and there, but she's also happy to remain how she is. Because now? She feels like a heroine.
LxL decide to tease her a little, a bit about Nagisa, and making couple jokes, but they ease up. They're happy that she feels more confident about herself. (and no, I will not accept them saying she won't be a heroine anymore if she's not dressed up. Goodbye anime lxl!)
Circling back to the HeroineDev novel, by now, it's New Years, and she invites LxL to head out with her, since she's grateful for all the help. The epilogue of the novel continues as normal, with Hiyori realizing that with these two, she'll be okay.
Shortly after is the Izumo Tour, where Hiyori shows off her hometown. The Vomic goes as normal.
Months go by, and now they're all in their second year of high school, and Hiyori still thinks about what Nagisa has said. Slowly, her love meter is going up from this, and she's more aware of him now. (Just like Yamako, Gom, and Shito said!)
One day, Hiyori returns to Izumo, ready to visit her family and friends, and Nagisa is the one who picks her up from the train station, and is surprised to see her dressed up.
After all, she has more confidence in herself, so why not?
She spends time with friends, family, eats more of Nagisa's cooking (she supports his dream of being a chef, after all), and while in Izumo, she trains for the track nationals, and Nagisa runs alongside her, which makes her happy.
Though the whole time, Nagisa's been worried that Hiyori's pulling away from him. He would never push her to like him back or date him, of course, but...still. Hiyori is the girl he loves.
Hiyori remains focused on her training and relaxing, until it was time to go back to Tokyo.
Nagisa makes her promise that she won't contact him until she gets her results in, and goes quiet as Hiyori begins to take her leave.
It may be at this moment that Hiyori realizes that Nagisa's been quieter than normal, and, thinking back to him calling her a heroine, and how he was supporting her right now, she gives him one last little genuine wave, giving him a big smile.
And of course, Hiyori does end up contacting him when she wins first place.
The two are overjoyed. Nagisa's so proud of her, and Hiyori, for her part, feels more and more like a heroine. She won. She has Nagisa congratulating her wholeheartedly. Everything's fine!
Except...
Aizou and Yujiro join in on their call tauntingly, much to Hiyori's annoyance once when address Nagisa.
After all, to Aizou and Yujiro, it's only a matter of time before Nagisa and Hiyori get together.
To Hiyori, they're just being nuisances.
And to Nagisa, they're being pests. (He really does hate them despite likely really caring for them, huh lmao)
After this, the "what next" is unknown.
However, we do get the hint that Nagisa and Hiyori are attending the same university...
Initially, I assumed that Hiyori was late to class, but now that the cover for Hiyori's new solo dropped, I have another theory...
It's possible that Hiyori and Nagisa were going to meet up. Did Nagisa finally ask her out on a proper date? Or something along those lines?
Hiyori's changed out of her tracksuit, and Nagisa is in the exact same outfit as above.
I'm sure when Heroine's Hero drops, we'll get the "how" they came to this stage, but we can see clearly that they've gotten much closer now.
So...that's what I think Hiyori's story is.
It's possible to connect Asuka's arc to Nagisa's arc, a few things just needed to be adjusted. Timing, and reasoning.
Instead of Hiyori simply just being all depressed over what Nagisa said to her as children, she could be hurting still from what happened with Asuka as well. After all, she never concluded that she was a heroine there.
When Aizou and Yujiro agree to help her, it's because they know she can be cute, and they hate how her self esteem got worse. When they test Nagisa, it could be because they're worried that Hiyori will get hurt again. After all, their help last time ended up not helping at all. The whole time, they're trying to be good friends.
Hiyori could use Asuka as inspiration to gently reject Nagisa, finally understanding what he means when he says he's putting his dream ahead of everything else. After all, she has a lot going on, so it's not fair to add a long distance relationship to that.
I'm not saying her coming up with that is invalid, but I feel like since she sees Asuka as princely, that when she uses the same reasoning, it would help make her feel like a heroine.
It's not just Nagisa's confession that helped her, it's the fact that she fully understands Asuka's position now, and she can fully move on from what happened and gain more confidence in herself.
Hiyori uses her experience with Asuka and grows from that, and she earns her happily ever after.
I look forward to how Nagisa and Hiyori get together.
Now that this post exists, hopefully, any and all future MVs with these two will make more sense~!

Rewriting "Fire Emblem: Engage"

This has been on my "draft" page FOREVER. It's my oldest post, and by the time I post this, I'll probably have forgotten some details that I KNOW I'm gonna get hounded (no pun intended) for.

Less emphasis on Emblems--I know, I know. "'Engage' celebrates the anniversary of the franchise, so why wouldn't previous games come into play?" I get it, but it feels suffocating; putting emphasis on the protagonists from past games takes away from the current game (which already feels like it borrows a lot from their last installments). However, in lieu of emblems inside the magical rings, something much more sad is there: 12 of Alear's dead siblings whose spirits are inside them (or their bodies were sealed in there; less sad and still works).

2. Zephia is Alear and Veyle's mom (plus Sombron being their father isn't a plot twist)--As per usual for previous recent FE protagonists (notably Robin and Byleth), Alear's mom is an unseen character who doesn't do much for the plot. Seeing how Zephia wants a child and Sombron promises to give her one, I'd prefer it to be retconned so this happens earlier, and she ends up giving birth to Alear and Veyle (and possibly other siblings). She yearns to be reunited with her children a thousand years later, and manipulates the Hounds into acting as her family (I feel like making Mauvier younger works here since she was supposed to see them as her children, but she physically looks his age or younger), something they all latch onto. However, when they stand against her and Sombron, she turns vengeful and vows to destroy them. Plus she takes the place of the evil Lumera boss (because that was too much like the Revelation route in "Fates" with Mikoto).

3. Flashback/Nightmare makes more sense--A really confusing thing is evil Alear at the beginning. I don't recall if it's ever made clear if this is simply a nightmare or a flashback. Neither one makes sense; we SEE Alear in the past, and they're much more timid and submissive, not as sadistic or wicked (at least their vibe) as shown in the flashback. A nightmare also doesn't make sense, since it's never validated; Alear never joins Sombron, nor do they ever struggle with their evil. Instead, I like the idea that at first, they're legitimately evil. Thanks to Lumera and Sombron's toxic love and living in fear of their death, they are cruel and broken at first. Only when they're injured during battle and rescued a thousand years later by Lumera (for once, I'm keeping the amnesia arc) do they change their perspective on things, vowing to defeat their father. It's also worth noting that they KEEP their hair color; it doesn't turn blue because of Lumera willing it to. Instead, I'd prefer they have a natural red and black hair color (looks better, imo).

4. More of Alear's backstory--We do an unnecessary time travel event for ONE chapter, and I'd prefer if we did more back and forth. Perhaps we simply nix the arc where the team travels back in time (I'll still be using time travel, albeit in a different way here), and subsequent flashbacks we get are from Alear slowly regaining their memories. I'd probably also utilize Nil and Nel, who, in the OG game, are twin children of an alternate version of Sombron. I'd also kinda of change their designs since the black and white is mainly used to show affiliation (still keep Nel in pink and Nil in blue, though), and I'd probably give Nil a more buff design to contrast with Alear, similar to how Nel's mature design contrast's with Veyle's innocent one. In my version, they're children born to Sombron (not via Zephia) who are treated as inferior to Veyle and Alear, and are abused for that, so they strive to prove their worth so their father won't kill them.

5. S-supports for other characters--It was a weird choice for only Alear to be able to marry/reach S-supports with other characters. I know this is a minor detail, but I'd like this, since it adds a bit more depth to character bonds.

6. More romantic options--Everyone is fair game except characers who appear to be underage, ie Framme and Clanne. FE was really great with making much more same-sex options for "Engage," though it did seem confusing why some characters were platonic (yet still required a ring). I'd prefer it if S-supports were romantic, personally.

7. Child units via ring chamber--I got into FE via "Awakening" and "Fates," and I always loved being able to have kids. I made a post about fanmade kids a while ago, and I would do an "Awakening"-style time-travel story. Only this time, it's not a threatening future or a grim mission; you simply unlock them in the ring chamber when achieving S-supports, and they're summoned to your world via the rings within thanks to Alear's siblings.

8. Sombron's backstory is less hypocritical--I...I'm at a loss. He talks about his kids trying to kill him when he's killed several of them. Then he says how alone he feels, and when Alear reaches out to him, he brushes it off. It doesn't feel like writing that makes sense, especially if Sombron himself had feelings. In my rewrite, I'd say that Sombron is from Elyos (IDK why they made him from another world) thousands of years ago, growing up in an abusive and toxic family who eventually tried to kill him before his powers were unleashed and he killed them. Mentally broken, he vowed to have a "right" family of his own, though his first child ended up being as twisted as his family and tried to kill him, only for Sombron to beat them to the punch. Now suspicious and weary of all succeeding children, he lives a loveless, unhappy life.

9. Less rushed villain origins/more pronounced Hounds--Every FE game I've played has issues with writing villains, at least supporting ones. I guess that's the downfall of a game that relies on pair-ups/boosting affinity with other characters. In any case, it does feel like the Four Hounds weren't really characters, but just obstacles. They didn't feel fleshed-out beyond certain traits, and their motivation/backstories were pretty quickly rushed through. I'd probably include them in the story a bit more to give them more screentime and availability to be expanded upon for more nuance.
I feel like there are things that I'm missing, but I've had this post for so long, I wanted to finally release it, so I'll add any additional thoughts later.

status update ~
thought i'd write a summary of what I've been up to, and what's next art-wise! honestly, I'm finding that I work well mentally consolidating projects to quarters of the year; it gives me hard deadlines while allowing nuttiness to blow up two weeks (or more) of my life at a time and still not be stressed.
year recap first!
(Q1) collaborated with @/lululeighsworld to give gunter the fabulous possessed gacha entrance he deserves!! leigh's writing here to this day feels uncannily and perfectly in-character, no small feat with the mind games this devious possessed old man likes to play ~

(Q1) also finished the 140k your ruin, my ruin gunter/corrin revelation fic! the reception from y'all has been absolutely exceptional and while I don't think I'll ever write another fanfic of that length (lol) being able to point to it re: my fire emblem fates: revelation feelings is so ... satisfying. the ossan smut holds up pretty damn well too.
(Q1) NaZine (I) anthology printed and completely sold out, but the digital version is eternally available on the shop if you're still interested. I'll admit that anthologies are not normally my thing for being too prim and milquetoast, but this is anything but. if you've been dying for more sleazy uniform fetish, we got it there!
(Q2) Comics-wise, both Dead is Calling and YRMR:[Epilouge] were finished and ready to be collected in my planned gunter/corrin doujinshi called ashes and ghost; there's one more (eye-blistering smut) strip planned there with a few internal pages.
(Q3) Website-wise, IRON CROWN moved to rarebit from wordpress, and the main landing page was revamped entirely to better pave a road for preparations to self-host the website.
that's not even counting the smaller flash artwork like the fe: alphabet challenge, and hellsing exchange work also done in between everything else.
what's next?

(Q4) you might have seen me show wip's from a FE:Heroes (gacha) comic; while it's tonally softer than my usual work, It's 14-ish pages of some very, very guilty pleasure topics. raw feelings but in a different way? idk, you'll see.
(Q4) I have a personal deadline to get the website updates done by November, namely moving my art/update logs off of wordpress, and also likewise either moving to a different host or self-hosting the entire site (on a rasbpi lol) and removing the middle-man entirely.
(Q4/2025) finishing ashes and ghost (the gunter/corrin doujinshi)! I've been taking a needed break from it (something learned back in the webcomics days) but I can't wait to get back in some hentai level smut that's frankly, going to push me in so many ways. :D;;
(2025) NaZine II will likely be printed in the upcoming year with the same team heading it up. There's delicious stories already planned including multiple shotas and Daddies, oh my - needless to say, it's the kind of sleaze and sauce i dig.
that's all for now!

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
I was tagged by @sorbriquette ! As a fair warning, only 2 of my fics are FE3H, so most of this will be a bit unrelated. ^^
Absolutely no pressure to participate if you aren't interested, but I'll tag @varley-of-torment , @faerghusfucker , @merlyybird , @battry-acid , @gengor .
Questions under the cut!
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
On my current AO3, 24. I have two old accounts - I think it'd probably be in the 50s or so if we count those. (also, i'm going to be too lazy to link to each individual fic, so my account is HERE if you want to check any of them out.)
2) Whatâs your total AO3 word count?
69,292 - first of all, haha nice. second, that is higher then I expected!
3) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A SK8 fic I wrote about a minor female character interacting with the major M/M ship, a PJO fic which is about a female character who has no screentime interacting with the major M/M ship, a fic I anonymized, and two fics from my A3 'gamers on a couch discussing feelings' series.
I sense a pattern.
4) What fandoms do you write for?
I'm not as active in fic writing as I'd like to be. But my backlog is mainly A3! and Fire Emblem.
5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I always do! Because, well... this feels a bit clinical to say, but you've got to reward the behavior you want to see? I like getting comments! It makes fic writing feel worth it. And if somebody has spent the time to leave me a nice comment, I'd like to acknowledge it, and let them know that it mattered to me.
6) Whatâs the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
A Boquet of Rafflesia, my FE fates fanfic about Siegbert having Peri as a mom and being miserable. I think fondly on that fic. It is so self-indulgent.
7) Whatâs the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
My Daughter Loves Him, I Think He Looks a Little Gay, But Whatever Makes My Princess Happy (bi4bi yutaba fic) or On the Shore of Matsuho (chihayafuru canon compliant fic)
8) Do you get hate on fics?
Not that I've ever seen.
9) Do you write smut?
I've attempted it one time, and I never finished it. It's not like I'm opposed to the idea, it's just... never really worked for me.
10) Do you write crossovers?
For a one-shot collection, I briefly did a fic featuring both Lissa and Edelgard... which is kind of a cross-over, I guess?
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. But I have had the fan visual novel I co-created in 2019 ripped off to various degrees of blatancy,so I guess there's that...?
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I'm aware of.
13) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
In the past, yeah. None on my current AO3.
14) Whatâs your all-time favorite ship?
Even though I don't write for it anymore (the only fic on my current account for them is a reupload of stuff I wrote ages ago), I still have a lot of fondness for Blupjeans. I was the original warrior for them.
15) Whatâs the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
"23 and May" (drew pokemon anime takes a DNA test and realizes wally is his half-brother), simply because of how funny the title is. I fear it'd be a bit too self-indulgent with my pokemon anime ocs, though.
16) What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm pretty good at giving characters an individual voice. I change the style of my narration depending on the personality of the character.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually writing instead of just daydreaming about it. And even if I get the words on the page, I struggle to complete them. And I don't tend to post somthing unless I've finished it.
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?
I don't really have thoughts on this.
19) First fandom you wrote for?
Either pokemon anime or warrior cats, when I was 8-10. I still have a lot of those old fics saved on my computer. I love rereading them - they're deeply "cringy", but it's really fascinating to see what aspects of my style were already present.
20) Favorite fic youâve ever written?
Hating You And Loving You. It's a weird parody of what I believe is a now-extinct genre of fanfic, and I had an absolute blast making it.

Fe Aspec Week Day 1: Coming Out
WOO It's aspec week time!! đđ To no one's surprise I'm starting off with Lukas :3 I know we have the wonderful support convo when he and Python sort of come out to each other, but I was always curious about the loose ends that it brings up -- how he comes out to/is treated by his family, the woman he's left behind, his fellow nobles, etc. This drabble doesn't really answer any of those questions sadfsadf but it's coming from that thought đ
Father,
I am writing to you now, so soon after my previous letter, as there is something I have yet to confess. It may be difficult for you to hear, but
The sentence stops abruptly, a small dab of ink at the corner of the âtâ where the pen had rested a moment in contemplation.
A man sits back at his at a desk. His candle illuminates the page, displaying a few brief lines at the top. He dips his pen in ink time and time again, but the page remains mostly empty.Â
At first, the man believes his problem to be a lack of words. No title exists for men like him. Heâs well-educated and well-connected in the army; he has an extensive vocabulary for how the upper and lower class categorizes its people. Whether itâs a scholarâs dull terminology, vulgar common language insults, or the carefully chosen phrasing of a gossiper, none of the usual descriptors fit him. All he has are the distantly connected criticisms heâd heard his whole life: âheartless,â âcold,â âdetached.âÂ
When the candle burns lower, however, he realizes the real issue. He has far too many words.
Where would he even start? Should he describe his contentment with his life here? How not one of his fellows ever brought up the lack of a woman at his arm, or how dinners with the King and Queen themselves were filled with pleasantries that never touched on his romantic endeavors? Whatever his father had been preparing for, it had never come.
Or should he begin earlier, when he was first accepted by this group of people? He wasnât sure if he could properly convey all that he experienced on that fateful night, speaking softly with the unitâs archer â a man heâd come to call one of his truest friends. The man had heard for the first time in his life that there were others like him. He heard that they were content. They were whole.
He could go back further and describe the moment that the realization first hit him. How his father had been right in a sense. Just as he said, one day when the man was grown, he would be in the arms of another, and everything about himself would suddenly make sense. There was only one difference. Heâd been forced to bury that clarity, since it wasnât the same kind that everyone else came to.
Or should he start even further back? He could recount all little hints that haunted him across his youth. His dreams for the future never quite aligned with those of his peers. Nothing ever seemed to align. His choice of stories to read, of games to play, of jokes to make. He wouldnât ever claim he was mistreated as a child, but everyone would agree that the signs had appeared even then.
The man sighs. Where is the beginning, when one has always been this way?Â
The clock strikes on the hour. It is late, and he will need to be at his sharpest tomorrow for drills and meetings. He has no more time to fret over words about his past.Â
The man tries a new method, and wonders what his friends may write about him. He canât resist a dry smile. He knows that he can never, under any circumstance, allow them to exchange any correspondence with his family.Â
But the exercise gives him an idea.
He writes out a single statement. Then he blows out the candle and heads to his bed.Â
there is nothing broken about me.
Cordially,
Lukas
#fe aspec week#fe echoes#fe lukas#fire emblem echoes#fire emblem lukas#i always thought cordially meant like 'respectfully' so finding out it means 'with intense feeling/in a heartfelt way' had me ;----;#i like the idea of someone whos very eloquent and educated writing the simplest and oddest letter home and just Not Elaborating#i hope the pov worked -- i wasnt sure if it was weird doing the present-tense-no-name thing but it just started flowing? so i ran with it?#LMAO i couldnt get it to work but my original idea for this prompt was art featuring lukas right after the support convo and high off the#euphoria or self-discovery#he'd be absolutely wrecking it on the battlefield -- bloody and wild and giddy staring down the viewer with the caption 'love loses' đ#drabbles

Fire Emblem Archetypes and Tropes: Prototype Post
My last pre-Xenoblade X DE hyperfixation.
When it comes to Fire Emblem, they use and reuse archetypes a lot. This creates a familiarity and consistency that makes most games great to jump in as a new player, and for veteran players to settle in comfortably for new releases. I see archetypes coming in two forms worth analyzing. The first is archetypes that are purely story/character centric, they aren't strictly related to the class said characters occupy. The second is what I call gameplay-implication, where the classes that characters occupy across the series can infer commonalities in personality when grouped together.
The purpose of this post is half to be funny, and half to have a compilation of tropes and stuff that I want to have on hand in case I want to do deeper analysis of them in the future. And also because I have a vendetta against the fandom wiki and TV Tropes for both of their FE Archetypes pages lol.
I'm not covering the following games: Fire Emblem Heroes, Fire Emblem Warriors 1, Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes, or Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Though given the nature of Fire Emblem Heroes specifically, I might look at cross game interactions in that game to see if it reinforces certain points I may have in the future.
The * next to names is for characters where I think they act as a significant subversion of the trope they occupy for one reason or another, and the ? next to names is for characters I'm iffy on when it comes to if they actually belong there.
Everything is under the cut, because this is too long.

The good thing about making these things broad at the start, is that-at least to me-paring down is significantly easier than building individual cases. It's less work to delete misnamed candidates after listing them like this, than it is trying to deeply analyze everything from the jump.
I'll come back to this when I'm in another FE phase and want to write more about these things.

It was just by chance that tragic Liam Payne met Rogelio âRogerâ Nores â the Argentinian multi-millionaire who was with the former teen heartthrob in the fateful hours before he died. In 2020, the One Direction star was at a dinner party at the London home of Edward Enninful, the former editor of British Vogue, when he was introduced to the energy entrepreneur, and they quickly struck up a bond. Nores would go on to work hard behind the scenes to keep Payne clean â but friends worried he was isolating the musician. Earlier this year, Payne ended up moving close by Nores and a few other pals in Florida as he tried to make a fresh start following years of struggles with addiction. He had, friends said, suffered a few âtraumatic episodesâ over the past two years, but things looked brighter and he had only recently moved into a $9,500-a-month Spanish-style mansion in Palm Beach with his girlfriend, social media influencer Kate Cassidy, while Nores owns an apartment in Miami Beach. He loved bowling and was learning to play polo.
During the summer, however, Nores went off to Europe with his girlfriend, while Payne went to Manchester, England, with a nine-person team, including Cassidy, family members and stylists, to film his new Netflix show, âBuilding the Bandâ with Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland. It was not a decision that Nores was happy with, as he feared that Payne might relapse, weâre told, as he knew too many dealers in the UK.
In a note seen by Page Six, Nores emailed Payneâs father, Geoff, and his management team in August and made his worries crystal clear as the singer had only been clean for four months.
He wrote, âLiam stayed at my friendâs ranch down in Palm Beach and since the first day he arrived he was monitored and treated by professional doctors who specialize in addictions. He stayed fully clean without access to any hard drug (sic) during his whole stay. âThe plan was for him to work on the preparation for a music tour and stay healthy and busy with work. A plan he successfully followed during his whole stay in the US.â However, Nores continued, âIâm really concerned for his well-being while he is out there and I hope you can bring professional doctors to check on his health regularly as soon as possible as I did while he was out in the US."
One source who knows Nores said, âThey were opposites, Roger had never tried a drug in his life, he never drinks, heâs not a party guy, heâs intellectual and Liam was the opposite, but they loved talking to each other. Liam was the kind of guy who would ask 20 people for advice â and Roger was one of them.â
Weâre told that Liam became friends with a staffer in the cleaning department of the hotel, and he got him to get him drugs. Local outlets in Argentina featured a recording of the hotel manager allegedly talking to police in which he confirmed had fired staffers after Nores told him they were selling drugs to Liam.
***
So much for all the Ziam clowns saying Roger Nores was Liam's dealer. He was actively trying to keep Liam away from drugs.
