Who are you?

Yeah... it’s been a long time I realise since I last posted here. Various things happened, I got somewhat busy, I was kinda slow to write the Bowser post up and things seemingly got a bit rough when it came to Nintendo towards the end of 2020 so I felt a bit like I didn’t really want to post anything whilst that whole fire was going on. With that said, this was a fairly lengthy post anyway seeing as it’s about arguably one of, if not the most famous villain in gaming, so all in all it took a lot longer than I intended. I’m hoping this won’t be the same for the next few entries, and again if anyone does actually follow this blog I apologise for the long wait, hope the post is at least mildly interesting for people.

So, as for my overall thing, if anyone is keeping track of the list on this blog, I’ve just updated it to be up to date today. When it comes to where I am as such, I’ve played through mostly all the games I had on the list for fighters, all the games I had on the list for alt costumes and all the games I had on the list for Assist Trophies, Custom Moves, Helper Characters, Bosses and Enemies. I am now currently at the part of my list for stages, having most recently beaten Luigi’s Mansion. I’ve been really enjoying this part of the list, and for games I’ve already beaten, I’ve where possible revisited them just to go to the location the stage is based on, or if for example a racing game playing that race again etc. It’s been really fun and relaxing doing things like returning to Wind Waker HD in order to just sail around the Great Sea filling in the map, or visiting all parts of Hyrule in Twilight Princess HD. I’m sure there already have been some made, but I feel like if you know what you’re doing you could make some really relaxing videos of just wandering around game worlds (making sure to avoid spots you know enemies will ambush you of course).

I currently have two games I’m playing through, one for stages, and the other for the latest DLC character added to the roster. Currently I’m playing through Pokemon Platinum on DS and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch. I beat XC2 before, so this time I decided instead to play New Game Plus and my aim is to beat a certain challenge in the DLC that will allow me to unlock two specific characters, without spoiling too much for anyone who hasn’t played. So most of the time I’ve been working on building up most of the affinity charts for blades I really feel would help such as Corvin. I’ve really been getting the hang of how the combat system in the game works, something even having beaten the game I wasn’t really that good at. There’s some useful video guides I’ve seen on youtube such as Enel’s channel and Chuggaaconroy’s current LP which I’ve found good for information. For Platinum, I’ve just reached Eterna City, although I’ve probably been playing XC2 more just as I realise that’s probably going to take a lot longer to beat. 

So, beyond that, just generally I’ve been fairly pleased with what I’ve seen announced so far this year, granted I realise it’s been very divisive, between the Pokemon remakes, Skyward Sword HD, and the previously mentioned newcomers in Smash. Personally, I’m looking forward to most of the stuff, although probably the biggest thing for me is seeing Famicom Detective Club remakes coming out for the first time here. I’m a huge fan of visual novels and games like Ace Attorney, and with Ayumi’s trophy all the way back in Melee, it’s a series I’ve always wanted to play, but I was only ever able to play the fan-translation of FDC2 before. I really enjoyed that game so seeing scenes from it in trailers for the remake (complete with the creepy ‘girl in back’ ghost story) has been really great. Everyone’s been going on about how Nintendo just ignores their franchises besides Mario and sometimes Zelda, but it feels like people don’t seem to realise how Nintendo are essentially remaking two niche Japan only games from back on the Famicom, and releasing them in English for the first time ever, with full (Japanese) voice acting and everything, and it’s a genre Nintendo’s not really done much of. I’d love to see this succeed and lead to more old Nintendo franchises seeing remakes or just simply being translated sometime, something like Card Hero would be really neat. Anyway, regardless, I get if it’s really not a genre interesting to a fair few people, but FDC is probably one of my most anticipated games currently (also, if those rumours of Dai Gyakuten Saiban being ported and localised on Switch are true it’s going to be a really good time for me).

Time’s getting on for the final two DLC characters (assuming this is the final Fighter’s Pass). My current bet is on something like Crash Bandicoot and Ryu Hayabusa (although, some interviews have put doubt on that) although, if it was me personally who got to pick, I’d love to see Phoenix Wright get in, or heck Professor Layton. I like when the characters have a big history with Nintendo, which is why I find how controversial Pyra and Mythra, beyond arguments about designs etc, getting in is kinda ridiculous, especially when it’s people saying someone like Doomguy or Master Chief ‘deserved the spot more’ than one of Nintendo’s own series. Anyway, I should probably stop before I start something here lol, either way, looking forward to seeing who’s next, for the sake of my whole list thing, I hope it’s two interesting new series. Someone like Waluigi who’s already in the game would be pretty boring to me personally.
