Skate America 2024 Results

C/B fell just short of closing the gap from yesterday, but i think i love this FD. it feels organic and musical, and they look like they're dancing through a lot of it. the lifts are lovely - it's an elegant program. they got all their levels except a level 3 on that striking StaLi at the end of the program - that cost them .75 in BV - the extra level would have put them over the top

Olivia and Tim!!!! Grand Prix medal! this program is beautiful - the opening combo lift feels special. they stayed in sync

it's interesting to have watched the practices and then see how it looks the same or different with the added pressure and skating the full program. D/S's free seems very difficult, and theirs was lower energy than in practice, while Olivia and Tim's came together in the moment

Ben Agosto making some pointed comments - there was this, about Lilah and Lewis:

B: taking a different approach this year with their free dance not starting with the high energy sassy character we're used to seeing from them J: there's a purpose to that - they told me earlier this week that they've been criticized for not having the skating skills of many of the top teams. they wanted to put them on full display and say look what we've been working on, look how much stronger we are B: i don't know if it's working yet 💀💀💀

between this and Jean-Luc's comments about them in practice, they're not done hearing those criticisms yet

at the top of the broadcast, Terry Gannon spoke about the two teams who were forced to withdraw and why and who replaced them - it's good they addressed it

Ben about M/C's twizzles: "Annabelle hanging on to that first twizzle, crawling across the ice 😬 but making it smoothly through the rotations" more comments about how the program now doesn't look like Star Wars in any way

N/M's FD definitely the stronger of their 2 programs - they do the CPom spin, and Ben mentioned it -- "really difficult position in the spin. we've seen Carreira/Ponomarenko do that (N/M's is a variation where Artem is lower). it's very hard, and they (N/M) do it really well"

Mrazeks: Ben talks about how difficult the balance in their first lift is, though idg the analogy - "if anyone's ever put their forehead on a baseball bat and spun around at a picnic, it's really challenging to keep your balance" huh? lol i like M/M. but i don't like or dislike this program - it feels more like 🤔 i'm confused why i don't feel anything yet i like some of what i'm seeing

L/LeG: ohh the mistimed entry to the combo lift cost them 8 or 9 points? they would have been more like 5th or 6th. that and Alicia and Paul's fall - heartbreak - hope they come back strong in their next outing ❤️

Firewatcher's Daughter is my favorite and I think The Story is better than GUTG. The story seems more fleshed out to me and the songs have more original feelings to me. Firewatcher's Daughter has the perfect mixture of heartbreak, sweetness and angst. There is no bad song on any of her albums but all the ones on FD are just all superb.

These are all opinions, that being said:

I think The Story has a couple of (relative) low points that keep it out of contention for me. But the high points are so incredibly high.

Firewatcher’s Daughter is a clear inflection point in the band’s discography and refinement in their collective lyricism. That being said, there’s a couple of songs that I personally could take or leave. It’s not so much about quality, but that they could have been removed from the album entirely and I think the album becomes better/tighter as a complete work.

GUTG snuck up on me. But a lot of its brilliance for me is in its emotional narrowness. Thematically and musically, it’s so well organized around a longing for emotional connections that never quite land. Also, in its actual album construction, I find each song vital to the album. Especially Caroline. I don’t think the album works without it, even though it’s such an emotional and sonic pivot.

If I ever had a better sample size, I’d like to figure out peoples ranking of albums, stratified by age, and also by time period when they became a fan. I’m sure my ranking is affected by my relative new-ness.

the entire fd’s halat yesterday:

did you guys know that last night some random account on twitter (beda garak ho uska maaf nahin karungi main usse :@) posted this totally fakeass written update for the new “promo” where apparently Aryan does sindoor bhari maang on Imlie to save her from Aditya’s manhandling? and the entire fandom had a breakdown over it AS THEY SHOULD cuz bhayee kuch bhi karlo, ML kitna bhi amazing kyun na ho...never underestimate the power of Gul Khan fucking over her heroes for the sake of drama :D

offscreen drama aside, let’s focus on the canon here.

ARYAN MF’IN SINGH RATHORE MERE DIL PE BULLDOZER CHALANE KA SHUKRIYA!!!!

I didn’t Pasoori yesterday (....or the day before) so a brief touch on that as well alongside today. it is important to do so as a reminder to MYSELF that the Aryan that we have been getting so far in the show has been quite consistent about where he stands in Imlie’s life. and that is - NOWHERE :D

no seriously how fucking heartbreaking was the Yeh Dooriyan sequence?

EK TOH BC YEH DOORIYAN KON BAJATA HAI AUR PHIR EXPECT KARTA HAI KE HAAN SEH LENGE HUM?! KUCH CHEEZEN HUM NAHIN SEH SAKTE UDAY BHAI!!

Right.

So when it comes to Imlie’s apne, Aryan always stays away. he said to his mom and Didi that he’ll bring Imlie with him and that they could go ahead first but before he could say a word to Imlie, Aditya was already there. and then without missing a beat, Aryan turned around and walked away (phir main rona shuru hogayi)

and as Imlie watched him go, his position in her life became clearer still. she’s obviously affected when he leaves but still not enough for her to want to not have that happen. when her emotions are in an upheaval like they were in that moment, her priority isn’t Aryan. it’s not like she’s incapable of having someone else override all her own personal emotions (pls the babusaheeebbbbb jaaps remain fresh in my memory) I think it was OKAY for her to not get up from where she was sitting to want to stop Aryan. it is laying out a verryyy delicious base for some future conflict. conflict which Imlie has spelled out twice in these two episodes.

her trust on love, her trust on marriage - it has all died.

very high claims for a young woman her age but it makes SENSE. it’s a classic defense mechanism. completely deny the chance to an emotion or experience to even come close to you by shoving them away because the idea of being hurt by them again itself is just so painful.

Yeh Dooriyan as a song selection brought both depth and foreshadowing to Aryan’s gesture of walking away.

Aryan doesn’t know where he stands in Imlie’s life. The closer he gets to her, the more she appears distant. But my favorite lines from the song have always been the chorus.

yeh dooriyan in raahon ki dooriyan nigaahon ki dooriyan humrahon ki dooriyan fanaa ho sabhi dooriyan.

this word ‘fanaa’ here just does things to my heart. it doesn’t mean simple erasure, it means total obliteration. something ending in a way that not a speck of it remains. it’s a wish, it’s a prayer...it’s the desperation of a lover who just wants to be with their beloved but are unable to do so because so much separates them. and like everything that we have been unofficially and officially told about Aryan’s emotions - it’s passionate.

which brings us to today.

Jal bin machli ki tarah tadapta Aryan just waiting for Imlie to come back home but unable to call her lest he troubles her WHILE keeping a desperate look out for her calls. he’s just so darn affected by both her presence and absence it’s an actual wonder for me HOW this man will ever survive sanely if Imlie was to leave his life?

Narmada...kind, sweet, wonderful Narmada...the one person I give the MOST credit to for Aryan being who he is...reminding Aryan that choosing to be alone is not a show of power but a sign of self-punishment because it also means to be locked up in a cage. a cage of our emotions that will suffocate us one of these days. so gently she reminded Aryan that he need not always be alone. that him opening up to someone is something the should allow himself to do. because that is what is meant to be a human. we need that human connection with others not for anything else but simply just to make this burden of existing a little more bearable.

and Aryan...sigh. this man. Aryan after years actually talked to god. not for himself...but for Imlie.

can I say he talked to Devi Maa because he has seen Imlie have conversations with Her? you know when your friend is out of touch and you are concerned for them but you don’t know where and how to reach them so you approach a friend of a friend that you happen to know and ask them about the wellbeing of your friend? isn’t that what technically Aryan did here? xD can’t approach Imlie himself toh chalo, uski Devi Maa se puch lete hain xD

wrapping Imlie up in a towel..crouching in front of her...cleaning the dirt from her face, from her hands, from her arms all the while keeping a steady stream reprimands going on like how stupid could she be for pulling his stunt and does she not have functioning braincells anymore and is she a fool for walking home alone as if he had stopped existing and could she not call him once to prove she’s not an absolute gadhi?!

and he completely missed the way she looked at him.

then came the heart-drop moment.

she tells him that with her marriage...a huge part of her died as well. the part that trusted in love, the part that trusted in the sanctity of relationship that are supposed to be all about love had died in the process. and while she cannot bring back those dead parts back, she can at least focus on her reviving her almost dead dreams and achieving them. isn’t that what he’s taught her?

yes, he’s been teaching her to focus on herself and her dreams and instead of wasting her energies into relationships and people that bring her no joy, no growth, no development she should instead focus on herself because that’s where she’ll get all these things. last time Imlie had gone through such an emotionally taxing ending of relationship with Aditya, she had told Aryan that she would shut off all her emotions like he has done and move on. that was the wrong conclusion of his teachings. this time she doesn’t tell him that she will stop feeling altogether but that she would now feel more strongly about her own dreams than the emotions she once shared with someone.

the irony here is that now Aryan wishes she would share those emotions with him.

i think it’s a wonderful conflict that’s been set between them. an Imlie who has loved and lost and doesn’t want to go through it again with an Aryan who has lost but is now beginning to love. what makes it more interesting is that Imlie sees Aryan as this selfless fella in her life who doesn’t have ulterior motives behind helping her so she’d be right to never suspect that his emotions for her run deep. khud bhi toh GADHA PEHLE NUMBER KA keeps using the “you my employeeee~” wali tune to justify all his actions.

gah i won’t even get into the stupidity of that again.

so yes, once again a very brilliant conclusion to one more track for AryLie that has brought them closer and maybe apart too than when whey were before this situation. next up is the SHAADI and UFF! I am so intrigued about how THAT’S gonna play out! 50-50 partners for life? but how?

Why do you think cpom always do good in the RD and place quite high, but then they always go down by at least two spots with the FD? I didn’t get to watch yesterday’s free yet, but in the RD I thought they had improved, so I don’t understand them going from 5th to 7th, since the two teams who ended up above them seemed worse than them in the RD.

CPom are an interesting case that is really making me pause right now. Like you I saw visible improvement in the RD and were really shocked to see this morning that they dropped to 7th overall. So I decided to first watch their 2020 US championships FD which scored 116.14 with an invalidated choreo element (meaning it would have been ~119-120) and then watch the one from last night. And let me tell you, these scores are bullshit.

They had essentially the same BV in both seasons (0.4 difference in BV). They were tight twice in the FD- Anthony had issues on the 2nd set of twizzles and on the stationary lift, but the GOEs were just not there last night and for no good reason tbh, the twizzles got a bigger dinge than the rest who made similar mistakes, the choreo elements got low GOEs and same for the step sequences. And since they got -1 for an extended lift and lost GOEs for twizzles and the lift, it had a big impact. But what's worse is their PCS, it was dropped 3.54 points which is MASSIVE.

Which makes me think that while CPom are for sure experiencing some growing pains, this is starting to feel a lot like politicking. I don't know if it's because Scott is a new coach so he doesn't have the politicking power that I.AM and Igor have yet (Igor especially has a huge pull inside the USFS as the one who coaches most of their juniors), but this is feeling intentional to me, Green/Parsons had a twizzles issue that dropped them a level and got 1.87 GOE for it, CPom got 0.71 for theirs. And with the massive drop in PCS it's feeling intentional af.

I don't know what this placement means for CPom, will they still get GP assignments because of their international season best? I think their 4CC assignment is in jeopardy which is probably heartbreaking for them. If CPom will end up moving to Montreal next season, the cause will be the politicking tbh, nothing else, they looked shocked by the score and the placement.

Today is Kaitlyn Weaver’s 30th Birthday

Kaitlyn’s 20s have been filled with highs and lows, but she has accomplished so much in this past decade that many people can only imagine accomplishing in a lifetime. Here’s a recap of many things that happened in Kaitlyn’s career in her 20s, both the lows and highs.

Age 20 (2009-2010)

Kaitlyn gets her Canadian Citizenship in June 2009. While this isn’t an impossible process, it isn’t an easy process either (I went through the same thing around the same time). This makes her and Andrew eligible for the 2010 Olympics

Kaitlyn and Andrew win their first Grand Prix medal, a bronze at Skate Canada.

Kaitlyn and Andrew place 3rd at Canadian Nationals and miss the Olympic Team by 0.3. This was heartbreaking, but motivating for them

WeaPo then win Four Continents that year, their first major title.

Age 21 (2010-2011)

WeaPo qualify for their first Grand Prix Final, where they finish 5th

They then miss out on a national title by just over 1 point. Another heartbreakingly close miss for WeaPo.

They rebound from this miss to finish 5th at Worlds, an improvement from the last time they were at Worlds (They finished 17th in 2008).

Age 22 (2011-2012)

This is the year WeaPo skate to Je Suis Malade, a program that will be a highlight their career.

WeaPo win three silvers in the GP, but miss out on their first GP title by 0.09. Again, another close miss for WeaPo.

They finish 4th at Worlds, one spot higher than 2011 and closer to the podium.

WeaPo are invited to join SOI for the first time in their career; a childhood dream come true

At some point in March 2012, Kaitlyn co-founds a charity, Skate to Great, which provides skating equipment for underprivileged children in Canada. She co-founded a charity. At 22.

Age 23 (2012-2013)

WeaPo struggle a bit on the GP and do not qualify for the GPF

This isn’t the biggest roadblock in their season. In December of 2012, Kaitlyn and Andrew crash into boards, causing Kaitlyn to break her fibula (her leg)

Kaitlyn undergoes surgery and rehab in Toronto. They miss Nationals for the first time in their career (and the first time since 1999 for Andrew)

They make it back on the ice in time for worlds (at home in London, ON, which is less than an hour from Waterloo, ON where Andrew grew up)

They place 5th at worlds, despite the injury. Kaitlyn skated with all the screws and plates in her leg. She sometimes felt them rubbing in her boot. OW

Kaitlyn celebrates her 24th birthday at WTT

Age 24 (2013-2014)

During the off-season, Kaitlyn has surgery to remove the hardware from her leg.

WeaPo qualify for the GPF again, after missing out last season

They place 2nd at Canadian Nationals and qualify for the Olympic Team this time, after missing out in 2010

They place 7th in their Olympic debut

After an exhausting Olympic season, WeaPo compete at worlds. They win a silver medal, their first world medal. However, they miss out on the world title by 0.02. There’s a theme here with close misses and WeaPo

Nevertheless, WeaPo are thrilled with this season

Age 25 (2014-2015)

Only halfway there friends, and it’s already this long!

With Virtue and Moir taking a break, WeaPo are Canada’s #1 Ice Dance team this season.

They deliver, winning both of their GP events, the first time they’ve won.

They also win the Grand Prix Final, become only the 2nd Canadians to do so (after Bourne and Kraatz)

They win their first national title, an emotional moment for both of them. A childhood dream achieved.

They also win 4CC for the second time and enter worlds undefeated and the favorites to win.

They earn a bronze medal at worlds, clearly a disappointment for them. Nevertheless, they rebound and earn the highest total score at WTT

They end the season #1 in the World Standings, only the 2nd Canadian duo to do so (after Dubreil/Lauzon)

Age 26 (2015-2016)

WeaPo win both their GP events and the GPF for the second year in the row. They are only the 3rd Canadians to defend a GPF title after Sale/Pelletier and Patrick Chan

They win their 2nd national title and earn bronze at 4CC after a not-ideal skate.

Mistakes drop them down to 5th in the world

They come back at TCC to earn a season’s best and win the FD after minimal training, spending the time between worlds and TCC touring in Japan

Age 27 (2016-2017)

Virtue and Moir are back in competition, meaning WeaPo are not Canada’s #1 team.

Needing a change, WeaPo switch coaches to Nikolai Morozov. They move to New Jersey from Michigan, leaving their friend group.

They also train in Moscow, living in dormitory (like single bed and desk dormitory, nothing fancy). Imagine training in a foreign country, where you don’t speak the language fluently, don’t know many people, are away from the comfort of your home.

They change their short dance to Michael Jackson after HPC.

They medal in both of their GP events, but don’t qualify for the GPF.

They earn a silver at nationals and place 5th a 4CC.

WeaPo place 4th at worlds, less than 0.4 from the bronze. There’s a theme here with close finishes

Age 28 (2017-2018)

WeaPo create an FD to Spartacus, but it doesn’t fare well with the judges. They go back to the 2011/2012 FD, Je Suis Malade

Kaitlyn enters their 2nd GP event with a displaced rib. Painful stuff, especially with the all the layback positions Kaitlyn has in their programs

Andrew crashes into the boards during warm up. Double Ow. They place 4th and don’t make the GPF, which is probably for the better

Kaitlyn spends time in rehab. It’s the Olympic season, you don’t want to be injured.

They make it back to nationals, but that’s a rollercoaster and they end up 3rd. WeaPo make their 2nd Olympic Team.

They aren’t selected for the Team Event. Kaitlyn is disappointed by this, “crying her eyes out”, after she found out. She doesn’t blame anyone but herself

WeaPo place 7th at their 2nd Olympics; not exactly the placement they wanted but they skated the best they could

Training for worlds after the Olympics is a struggle, but WeaPo persist and earn a bronze medal.

Age 29 (2018-2019)

WeaPo decide to take GP off for the first time since 2007, and partake in the Thank You Canada Tour.

They add (or re-add) Igor Shpilband and Pasquale Camerlengo to their coaching team.

After friend and training mate Denis Ten’s show in June, they choose SOS d'un Terrien en Detresse as their FD music.

Less than a week after creating the programs, Denis is murdered. This program becomes a tribute to him. Imagine skating a program in dedication to your murdered friend day in and day out–emotionally taxing, but they did it.

They train while on tour on whatever ice they can find–small rinks, malls, etc. They are essentially training without a coach for half a season, sometimes for 30 minutes max.

WeaPo win their third national title despite their unconventional training methods. They have the most senior national medals of any Canadian Ice Dance team in History

Missing her grandfather’s funeral for 4CC, Kaitlyn and Andrew win a silver at the competition.

They place 5th at worlds, their 9th year in a row in the Top 5. With the exception of when she was 20, Kaitlyn has spent every year of her 20s in the Top 5 in the world. Impressive.

They finish their season at WTT, where Kaitlyn turns 30!

Why Do I Feel Connected to Prince Harry and FD? Part II

I think the two cards are connected to PH and FD. Hahaha, allegiances, allegiances. I have had more dreams about PH than FD, so I guess it has to be PH. Now for that charity event dream, I felt like I was in FD's body about to give that speech. There were butlers as well. I don't know if my task is to bring them together or share information with the rest of their fans because I am a new clairsentient empath/tarot reader myself and I feel through cards and impressions, but I think my yes/no question is that whether I am FD herself or just another vessel since I am an empath?

So many little coincidences lately. Before that Celtic Cross spread, I did another reading. It's a ten-card spread, similar to Celtic, but it goes deeper into the subconsciousness of the querent. Here is what I got:

If you read a lot of FD predictions, you would recognize Cards #6 and #7 right off the bat. I think this reading is coming from FD's perspective. In her past life as many have stated, she was a healer. A psychic into the mystical arts (The High Priestess, The Star). And in this lifetime, she also harbors psychic abilities (The Moon). She may subconsciously think she is not worth such a title and the dramatic life changes (Queen of Pentacles Reversed, The Tower). I think FD has already made her decision to become Prince Harry's future wife. She is the Kingslayer (Two of Swords Reversed, The Emperor).

I think she is still in the healing process and may not be ready to be in a relationship with PH (Three of Swords Reversed, Five of Swords).

The King of Wands Reversed card is Prince Harry. He is the external force in this reading. Right after I had that dream about the charity event, I did a reading to see if I could interpret the dream and the High Priestess and King of Wands cards were the first two cards that popped up. But anyway, I just want to know if I am FD or just picking up her emotions.

I drew 7 of pentacles for you. It is unclear if you are FD or not. I'll try to tell you why. PH needs to recognize her. He needs to have the eyes, she needs to have and express the qualities that he holds most dear. Even if you are FD, it's up to him to discover you. The advise for you is to keep working on your abilities. For example - if you use online tarot cards, buy your own deck, when you pull up cards make sure that you aak a question before that. The cards have multiple readings and depending on the question and the position they could mean different things. The 3 of swords reversed is a good sign - the heartbreak is over.

My favourite programs of the season

Ok, so, just a reminder you asked for this guys XD Someone asked me to post more figure skating content and reviews, so I thought I’d do posts about different things, starting with a list of my favourite programs of the season. I have a (quite) limited amount of free time, so I won’t post that often, but I have some ideas (I’ll probably do some top five posts about my favourite skaters and I think I might do similar posts for juniors/seniors to watch etc) and if you want me to talk about something...you know where to find me. That said, it’s the first time I try to write something like this, so feedback (replies, anons, whatever you want) is much appreciated. Is this too much? Too serious? You tell me.

Let’s get started now, cause the list is long.

Ladies’ SP:

Wakaba Higuchi - La Califfa

Laurine Lecavelier - Experience

Gabby Daleman - Herodiade

Anna Pogorilaya - Por Una Cabeza

Others worth mentioning: Elizabet Tursynbaeva, Kaetlyn Osmond.

My n.1 would have to be Wakaba’s program. But then again you can’t expect anything short of perfection from Bourne: the program perfectly highlights how much Wakaba has grown in the last year, especially when it comes to interpretation. I do think this program allowed her to show her fantastic speed and power, but also how mature she is considering her age. The StSq is, for sure, one of my favourites of the season. Now, switching the flip would have been a nice thing, but that’s another story. I’m not sure Wakaba’s talent is in the right place as of now, but at least she got great programs this year. There were a lot of great ladies’ short programs this year, but if I had to mention another one it would be Laurine Lecavelier’s Experience.

Ladies’ FP:

Satoko Miyahara - The Planets

Mao Asada - Firedance

Polina Tsurskaya - February

Mao’s LP would be my sentimental fave (and that step sequence is pure beauty) *this was written before she retired y.y*, but truthfully it’s impossible not to give first place to Satoko’s The Planets. Tom Dickson and Satoko are a really great combo *terrible pun intended: +3 goe!* imho: he really does know how to highlight her quiet skating, but at the same time I feel like his programs really help Satoko break out of her shell. Firedance was a little masterpiece, but in this case I really liked how they choose an unusual music and how difficult it is to skate to it. I do think this program could have been performed even better and I wouldn’t complain if Satoko kept it for next season, ditch Lori and have both SP and LP choregraphed by Dickson. Tell Yamato to fire Lori Satoko, do it.

Men’s SP:

Yuzuru Hanyu - Let’s go crazy

Jin Boyang - Spiderman (it’s so bad it’s good? XD)

This list is very short. For me LGC just stole the show. I’ve had the privilege to see it live and...as Yuzuru explained, there’s not an empty moment, and if you slip up it’s impossible to get back on track. It’s an incredibly complex program and I love how detailed it is. It’s perfect, from the 4lo sandwitched between two spread eagles and his fantastic 3A from a backcounter to little movements like the way he interacts with the crowd or upper body movements throughout the program. I’m going to receive a beating from a friend because of this but...this might my favourite among his SPs. Yeah, insane. #ChopinIStillLoveYou I remember how worried people were at the start of the season, but I think we’ve all learned two things from this: trust Buttle *all hail Jeff* and trust Yuzuru to be able to bring out the best of the music he’s skating to.

Men’s FP:

Yuzuru Hanyu - Hope and Legacy

Patrick Chan - A Journey

Jun Hwan Cha - Il Postino

I actually love all of them. I’m really attached to Hope and Legacy and how delicate and yet powerful it is, but I have to admit Chiddy’s program is fantastic. I’ve never been a fan of his, in spite of admiring his SS, but I do think he really felt this program and that it highlighted how gorgeous his skating is. (no more Eric music tho please. And choose something less...cute for the SP ‘kay?) In both cases I must note how many people underestimated these programs to be honest and how little they were “understood”. I saw a lot of people compare H&L to Seimei...and I just think not many people got how complex H&L is. The program is full of transitions, there’s not a moment to breathe and every jump is executed after difficult steps and is perfectly incorporated in the choreography. The program flows from start to finish and I’m glad Yuzuru skated to something like this, at least once. It was risky, but wonderful. Cha’s Il Postino is a little masterpiece. But I still don’t trust David Wilson :P

Pairs’ SP:

Sui/Han - Blues for klook

Savchenko/Massot - That man

Peng/Jin - My Drag

James/Cipres - Earned it

Yu/Zhang - Eternal Flame

Yeah, I don’t think I have to say Sui/Han take number 1, right? Every time I say I don’t like Lori I have to admit they make her choreos work. This SP is a masterpiece, no doubt, and they sold it. Their interpretation, their personality and charisma were astounding. They simply have that “something more”, that x factor that does set them apart in an extremely competitive field. They are excellent when it comes to pair elements, but also excellent skaters on their own. Also, synchro hair flip, damn. Shoutout to My Drag, because it is such a funny program, it was a joy to watch, especially considering what happened to chinese couples last season.

Pairs’ FP:

Sui/Han - Bridge over troubled water

James/Cipres - Sound of Silence

Savchenko/Massot - Lighthouse

Besides Sui/Han’s masterpiece that made me cry like a baby...can we talk about how much Vanessa and Morgan have improved? Their FP at Euros was the best thing of the entire competition. I also quite liked Aliona and Bruno, but while they’re excellent when it comes to pairs elements (that twist damn) I still feel like there’s not the right balance between them, in terms of performance.

Ice Dance SD:

Virtue/Moir - Prince Medley

Shibutani/Shibutani - That’s Life

Chock/Bates - Bad to the bone/Uptown Funk

I’m not making surprising choices am I? xD But really, Tessa and Scott’s SD this season was incredible. They owned it, from the first to the last second. Their midline no touch is extremely sharp and perfectly fits the music. I loved the music cuts and the lift...spectacular. I must say that all the US couples made interesting choices in terms of music and that, imo, the results were really great. I’ve never been a Chock/Bates fan, but this year both their programs were A+. When the rhythms for the SD were revealed last season I was afraid we’d see horrible programs, but I’m actually quite satisfied. Many interesting music choices, some really great programs.

Ice Dance FD:

Shibutani/Shibutani - Evolution

Chock/Bates - Under Pressure

Gilles/Poirier - Con Buena Onda

Many might be surprised not to see Papadakis/Cizeron’s FD on this list. I’m a bit surprised myself to be honest, but...after the last two seasons I had really high expectations and they weren’t exactly fullfilled. It is a good FD, but I still have fresh on my mind their last two FDs and...this isn’t as perfect imo (and I’m also a bit tired of this genre tbh). I’ve seen the Shibs’ Evolution live and, while it’s not as iconic as Fix You, imo it’s a great continuation of what they started last season. They choose a quite difficult music to skate to, because it might make the program seem flat until the very end, but it ended being a great choice and a bit of a breath of fresh air if compared to many similar FDs we’ve seen lately. Can we stop the romantic/heartbreaking FD trend? Please.

Finishing the Main Episode unlocks the Gift part of the game. It contains the Backstage, Concert Hall, and the Art Gallery.

I don’t know about you but I was super excited for the Backstage. Morgana slew everyone in the first game’s backstage. And so in this game too.

The backstage introduces all the characters that appear in the game with Ceren as the guide and mediator. That is in contrast to the usual guide who is Morgana. But then again, she’ll probably just ditch everyone ESPECIALLY Jacopo and go straight to where Michel is www.

In addition to the introduction, they also show each character’s sprites. Then, Ceren compares the events in the FD and the last chapter in the first game. In that game, Michel changes history in order to save Morgana. Meanwhile, in Requiem, it shows how things escalated resulting to Morgana’s curse.

As always, the interaction of the characters is hilarious! Despite all the bad blood that happened in the main game, everything is water under the bridge in the Backstage. Expect a lot of breaking the fourth wall too www. The characters joke around a lot at the expense of Jacopo. I feel bad for him for being bullied but it’s easy to bully the younger Jacopo. And the lovesick Jacopo is the most entertaining to watch. Just look at his inner thoughts – which the other characters always seem to read.

While the songs are all amazing, my favorite is Serie de Fragmento. This song is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I also love Little Swallow. It has an ethereal feel which suits the scene where it is used.

It is interesting to note that the first 6 songs include a CG and its lyrics like the one featured above. I’ve been searching high and low for the lyrics of Serie de Fragmento, not knowing that Novectacle already provided it. Good job.

Moyatarou’s art is glorious as always – glorious and haunting. There is a small amount of CGs though, only 13 images. No CG when they are all young, happy, and free nor CGs of Odilon and Gratien. Meanwhile, I find it weird that there is this one CG of Ceren that appears in the official website and press releases but isn’t included in the 13 CG in the game.

After finishing the Backstage, you’ll unlock Fragments. A short story that continues Jacopo’s dream from the main episode. I love this but in retrospect, this is heartbreaking. This is something Jacopo and Morgana could have. They both yearn for this but they are so far down the rabbit hole already.

There is a series of choices that appears here. Though I’m not sure if you can call it ‘choices’ since there really isn’t any other choices. It only has one dialogue to click. I don’t really understand why is it like that and why it isn’t a normal straight storytelling. But in addition to the what could have in this scene, the lines are the ones that Jacopo could have said or perhaps wished he said to Morgana.
