NPC BREAKDOWN ... the younger brother, elijah.

elijah,  the younger brother who doesn't fear j like caleb does.  but instead fixates on the myth, the mothman, the thing and starts to forget there's a person underneath it.   

eli doesn't hate j, he admires him.  but in the way people admire legends, in the way people admire ghosts.   when j's abilities surfaced, elijah didn't flinch.  he got curious, he started asking questions.  researched mothman sightings, conspiracy threads, shapeshifter myths, appalachian lore.  at first jay was okay.  he thought it felt like support.  but it shifted.  elijah doesn't look at jay like a brother anymore.   he was looking at him like a specimen, a story.  something to explain. 

jay wants to connect.  wants so badly to have one person in the family who doesn't treat him like a stranger !!!   but eli doesn't talk to him.   he talks about the shape of his wings, how close his sightings match mothman legends, whether j's drawn to the tragedies because he's psychic or cursed.  whether it's inherited. "do you think i'll change too?" elijah once asked, a little too eagerly  

jay starts avoiding him.  not because he's afraid of eli, but because he misses his little brother.  he's not coming back, though. 

eli on the other hand, thinks j is lying to himself.  he sees the fear, the self loathing, the way jay tries to just be a guy.  but to elijah jay isn't just a guy.  he's proof.  he's a phenomenon.  he says things like "you could be so much more if you'd just lean into it." or "you're acting like it's a burden.  this is power." he doesn't realize that he's hurting him.  or maybe he does.  but in the end, fascination wins.  

that is, until the folded step in.

some of the folded, as discussed previously, are not kind. they want jay to fold. they're not just lost or mournful, they're bitter... fragmented, hungry. and jay walking the line betweeen staying human and becoming one of them? that makes his family both bait and proof that he's got something to lose !!!

why did the folded choose eli instead of one of the others?

because he's close to jay, and jay is on the edge of folding.

elijah is obsessed. a beacon of attention. he's been watching, documenting, following. his interest becomes a light in the dark.

they want jay to fold, and nothing pushes a foreseen toward a breaking point like grief.

the attack isn't an ambush. it starts with mirrors breaking, recordings glitching. elijah's voice on tape saying things he never said. he dreams of j, wings out, eyes glowing red. but when he wakes, his nose is bleeding and the window is open. it escalates quickly. elijah is lured to one of the sites, drawn by patterns he's tracked from j's notebooks. a folded manifests, pretending to be his brother until it isn't. the folded tells eli that j ways never his brother. that j had already broke down.... that this is just what comes next. " you wanted to see what he really is... so look. "

jay senses it immediately. through the hum, the scar, the silence. he runs. wings out, no disguise. no subtlety. he moves like a warning, not a man. and when he arrives, eli sees him in his full form. real, trembling, dangerous. it's not the same thing as seeing him shift in the distance. j fights the folded. not just physically, but emotionally. it knows his voice. it knows his doubt. it uses it. " you're almost like us already... what's one more scar?" jay answers not with a scream, not with fire. but with grief. "you don't get to touch him. he still says my name like it means something."

the aftermath is rough for both of them.

jay is shaken not because he had to fight... but because his world bled into his brother's and nearly swallowed him.

eli is terrified. not of jay, but of the folded. what they represent. of what jay could become. i think, for the first time, he stops watching jay like a myth and starts seeing the scars... the weight... the exhaustion.

Lucien was adopted after his parents struggled with fertility issues. He was adopted as a baby, though he always felt as though he didn't belong in the family, and he struggled even more when his parents fell pregnant naturally. He's always felt as though he was replaced by his little brother, as his little brother was seemingly so much easier to love, but he tried to be a good brother regardless. He didn't want to lose the potential bond with his brother, especially not when he knew that their parents did earnestly try to love them and give them perfect lives. In no way were they bad parents, but of course like any others, they weren't perfect. The brothers have a history of fighting (usually because of Lucien's short-temper) but they've also considered each other to be one of their greatest friends. It's a complex relationship, but I picture them both trying to do their best to stay on good terms. While the face is UTP, it's important to Lucien's background that they're white!

uno. nació en una familia prominente y adinerada. como hijo menor de los rutherford, atlas creció rodeado de expectativas, pues su hermano mayor ha sido el orgullo de la familia, pero esperando de ambos a que siguieran los pasos de su padre. los hombres de los rutherford se dedicaban casi exclusivamente a la política, ocupando cargos relevantes en el gobierno y en las altas esferas de la sociedad y, los que no optaban por la política se inclinaban hacia carreras prestigiosas, como la abogacía o la medicina. sin embargo, las mujeres de la familia veían cómo se les reservaba un papel distinto, uno más rígido y subordinado. en la familia rutherford, las esposas no podían aspirar a continuar una carrera profesional una vez contraían matrimonio. este código de conducta de su familia, aunque intransigente y anacrónico, se sostenía gracias a una profunda devoción religiosa que marcaba la vida de la familia.

tres. el hermano mayor de atlas, seguía con determinación la tradición política de la familia rutherford, tal como su padre y ascendientes, pues optó por estudiar ciencias políticas. su hermana, por su parte, había decidido estudiar medicina, pero abandonó esa carrera cuando eligió casarse. mientras su hermano seguía una carrera alineada con las expectativas familiares, atlas llevaba intereses algo diferentes, desde joven, se sintió atraído por los libros. su amor por la lectura lo convirtió en un ávido lector, abriendo su mente a mundos que parecían ajenos a la política. en algún momento. tras años de leer páginas tras páginas, atlas desarrolló un deseo profundo de ser escritor, de crear sus propios mundos literarios o transmitir sus pensamientos a través de las palabras. aunque este deseo no fue bien recibido por su padre, quien consideraba que las carreras literarias o artísticas no ofrecían la estabilidad ni el prestigio necesarios para alguien de la familia rutherford.

cuatro. a pesar de la presión, atlas no abandonó su deseo de ser escritor. en un intento por satisfacer a su padre y lograr algún tipo de acuerdo, propuso una solución que le pudiera permitir seguir su pasión literaria de alguna forma. le ofreció estudiar periodismo, una carrera que, aunque vinculada a la escritura, también podía abrirle las puertas al mundo de la política (al menos de forma textual). además, sugirió estudiar filosofía, un campo que le permitiría seguir explorando sus intereses sin romper por completo con las expectativas de su familia. su padre, a regañadientes, aceptó la propuesta, pero con una condición: una vez graduado, atlas tendría que escribir sobre política, siempre en una línea que favoreciera las inclinaciones de la familia rutherford.

seis. se graduó en el año 2023, que tras todos esos años universitarios, se había distanciado un tanto de las estrictas creencias religiosas y tradiciones que habían regido su hogar. fe religiosa, que había sido uno de los pilares de su vida, comenzó a perder terreno frente a su deseo de entender el mundo desde una perspectiva más amplia, menos dogmática. y las costumbres de los rutherford, aunque nunca desaparecieron por completo, fueron tomando un lugar secundario en su vida. sin embargo, a pesar de su creciente independencia de pensamiento, atlas no rompió completamente con la promesa que había hecho a su padre, como había acordado, tras su graduación, así que su padre movió los hilos necesarios para conseguirle un puesto en the new york times como columnista. su rol consistía en escribir sobre política, siempre favoreciendo las posturas y los movimientos que estaban alineados con los intereses de los rutherford. a pesar de su éxito en el periodismo, su deseo de por convertirse en escritor nunca le abandonó. desde su tiempo en la universidad, ha escrito varios manuscritos listos para ser publicados, pero algo lo detenía: la duda sobre su propio talento. la posibilidad de que sus obras no fueran bien recibidas, o que no cumplieran con sus propias expectativas, lo llenaba de temor. así, aunque seguía alimentando su sueño literario, las inseguridades lo mantenían a la espera, sin atreverse aún a dar el paso final, de que sus obras estuvieran a la vista de todos.

Okay first up my 4 new (and hopefully for now, final) Harry Potter ocs! Two time travel fics and one addition to Daniel Potter's verse (tagging @rose-of-oz @cecexwrites @randomestfandoms-ocs @dancingsunflowers-ocs @ginevrastilinski-ocs bc HP)

Maxine Weasley (Alisha Boe FC), Oberon Lovegood ship. Maxine Weasley is the second child of George Weasley and Angelina Johnson and she has always grown up more like her aunt Hermione than anyone else. She's smart and quick-witted, if a little socially inept, but she's also fiercely loyal and kind and believes that people can have the capability to change, and like her father, does love a good time. Max loves her classes at Hogwarts and learning more, so when she also gets the opportunity to use a Time Turner for classes, she is excited. But one wrong twist means she isn't going back for a missed Arithmancy lesson, she's back in time and meeting Tom Riddle himself. But Max thinks this is a chance to change things for the better for her family and the Wizarding World itself, she can change the charming teen who becomes an evil wizard, she knows it.

Oberon Lovegood (Louis Partridge ship), Maxine Weasley ship. The grandfather (great-grandfather?? haven't decided) of Luna Lovegood, Oberon is not quite as fanciful as his descendants. He has dreams, yes, but he also has focus and isn't sure if the Wizarding World is ready for some of the things he thinks up. Which he is okay with, he is content to go into the Ministry and keep his ideas and inventions to his journal and thoughts. When a strange girl is suddenly in the classroom he was using to study, with an odd way of speaking and her own wild ideas, he gets curious enough to speak to her again and again. Which becomes a problem when she gets closer to his housemate Tom, and when his housemate starts getting more obsessed with her.

Indigo Wadsworth (Hailee Steinfeld FC), Regulus Black ship. Indigo wasn't planning on being involved with Harry Potter. She had heard of him, her father didn't like to talk about the first Wizarding War much but her uncle was happy to share, so she knew enough that when he started at Hogwarts the year after her, that she had no interest in getting anywhere near him. Being involved with that kind of ridiculousness was not her plan for her school year. And yet, before she even realized it she was pairing up with him in class and even dating the famous "Boy Who Lived". She's happy now. So when she is visiting her uncle in the Ministry and he secretly takes her to the Time Turners, she wasn't expecting to end up years in the past. The past when her father and uncle were at Hogwarts, when Harry's parents were in Hogwarts, or that she'd end up meeting a boy named Regulus Black. Indigo especially didn't expect to start falling for him.

Phineas Darlings (Kit Young FC), TBD ship. Daniel Potter's ex-boyfriend from Gryffindor, he is one of the wildest boys in Hogwarts. Unable to turn down a dare, an endless flirt, he has no problems with chatting up whoever catches his eye even if they aren't in Gryffindor with him. Which is why he started talking to Daniel. He brings Daniel out of his shell more but ultimately, they aren't meant to be. But they do remain good friends even after they break up

Theophilius Cresswell (Louis Partridge FC), Daphne Bridgerton ship. He is Daphne's childhood friend, their fathers having been close before Edmund's death, they have always been close growing up. Theophilius was very excited for Daphne's debut so they can enjoy the balls together and so he can see her get what she's always dreamed of, a family. When she is named the Diamond of the Season no one is more proud than Theophilius, but as he watches her dance with other suitors and then even seems to catch the attention of the Duke of Hastings, he isn't as happy as he thought he would be.
