Hi Tetra ! My sister gave me the ACOTAR saga for my birthday. I see that you have Faysand in your bio. Can you give me your thoughts on these books ? (I don't mind spoilers about the pace, the trope or the dynamic between these two !).
Ooohhh happy belated birthday and welcome to the ACOTAR world!! 🥰🥰
My thoughts on the series... so, first of all I have to be honest I don't like the writing. I personally don't think the author is a very skilled writer, the wording, the way the sentences flow, even some choices made in the story. (For example SJM has the tendency of eventually overpowrring her MCs and turning all her male LIs into labradors once they settle together.) But I'm also a firm believer that it's also a matter of personal taste so it's very possible to find people who adore the writing and others who think it's terrible. To each their own.
That being said, I do like the world the series is set in a lot, and the characters. I may not like SJM as a writer but I think she can create nice wolds and plots. Plus, her MCs are cool and the flirting and romance is always very nice.
Now if we want to talk about tropes in the ACOTAR series, I think lots of books appropriate the enemies-to-lovers lable when they shouldn't, however in this case I think there is a case for using it, because from the MC and the reader's perspective the LI is their enemy for a good chunk of the story. I can also throw in "there's only one bed" trope to sweeten the deal and some fake dating (more like fake evil lovers?) 😊 but this happens in the second book.
The second book is mine and most people's favourite. Others prefer the latest book which is about a different couple and much more spicy. I like that too but I'm not super fond of the MC (despite her growing on me during the book).
Everyone has been waiting for years about the next book which should clarify the main couple as people have been fighting a civil war about who should end up with whom (it's pretty obvious to me to be honest, but people have their own ideas and will deny even the evidence).
Let me know what you think of the series as you are reading it 😊 and join us in the excruciating wait for the next book, looking forward to your updates!

Hello!
Welcome to my very random ass tumblr blog. You can call me Hanisan or Murphtang, whatever, and my pronouns are she/her/they - I identify as female but I’m cool with gender neutral pronouns too.
About
I’m 36, have a little mini human, and live with said mini human, two cats (one is secretly a dog I stg), and my lovely boyfriend. Bi girly who has found her golden retriever boi.
Hobbies
I write a lot of nonsense and have dreams of being an author but writing a book is hard, yo! My brain is too full (thanks adhd) and I get distracted. This blog is basically a place for my random writing things and also my drawings when I can be bothered.
Media
Favourite book series are ACATOR, Harry Potter, all of the Discworld series, and I love House of the Spirits too. TV favourites are Schitts Creek, Brooklyn 99, Bobs Burgers, Friends, the Office, and Happy Valley.
What I do
You can normally find me crochetting and listening to true crime podcasts or playing lil cute farming games on my PC when I’m not doing crafts with my little one. I currently am OBSESSED with Fae Farm and Fields of Mistria. Also spent loads of time on Stardew Valley. And the Sims because Sims is life, Sims is love.
In terms of writing, I love me a fluff and smut fic (oops). Favourite ships are Wolfstar (Canon), Jegulus (cuties), Bellamort (help), Dorlene (🥺), Darmoine (don’t judge), Wolfstarbucks (because…cute boys), Faysand (yes forever), Nessian, Mor/Elain (Main? Haha), Rhys/Az/Cassian (chaos)…pretty much anything let’s be real.
Love you all 🥰🥰🥰

The Dark!faysand sneak peek was🥵💀
Dark!Feysand does something to me too :’)
Their dynamic is so perfect, I love writing for them (whether that’s a normal Feysand fic or a dark one!)
I also really like the idea of a reluctant reader who’s thoroughly corrupted by them she can’t tell right from wrong

They were all willing to let her go to her death clueless simply because Rhysand said, but I bet if they knew of that death pact sooner and how it would be taking their precious Rhysand too, everything would have been drastically different.
I don't care for Faysand, but I'm so pissed they didn't even attempt to shift when earlier on in the pregnancy would seem to me to be the most logical and safest way to try. You have Tamlin's powers for what? Bloody make use of the ability. They can always make another baby, worse case. But they can't get another Feyre and in conjunction with the plot, Rhysand, back (...again. These mf don't stay dead).
Nesta was making a point about others deciding their fates without their input. She did the right thing, especially with Feyre acting all righteous in that moment. Nesta gave her a dose of reality real quick and then ended up being the very person to save all of them in the end.
Befriending an honest person isn’t just about being willing to accept their genuine compliments btw. It’s about being willing to accept their completely genuine criticism and understand that they’re saying this to help you and even if they’re not, you can use it to improve yourself because the truth doesn’t change whether it’s spoken to help or to harm.
So no, it doesn’t make a difference to me even if Nesta HAD spat the truth in Feyre’s face with malicious intent (she didn’t). Feyre can still use that knowledge to her benefit, and that beats a dishonest person lying to her because they “care too much.”

Ok so here me out on this one. In ACOWAR the first time they go and see the bone carver he tells them about his siblings: the weaver, and another brother on the continent.
Fast forward a few hundred pages and the mortal queen is under a curse by some dark god on the continent
Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks the bone carvers brother is the person who the mortal queen is controlled by????

So... about Elriel and Elucien...
I have finally read everything ACOTAR, including the two excerpts at the end of ACOSF, so I can give my final opinion about this ambiguous situation.
Let me first point out that I really don’t care about Elain and who she ends up with, I’m primarily a Faysand shipper, so my opinion in this matter is objective because I’m not invested, I only care about the characters’ wellbeing which fortunately is something SJM gives us anyway.
My opinion is that this ambiguous situation, is not ambiguous at all. Elucien and Gwynriel are endgame, and here is why.
(And fyi I’m nobody. Just a reader who likes to dissect and analyse plotlines and characters of the media she consumes. 9 times out of 10 I get it right.)
Every writer has a certain style, a bunch of tropes and preferences that are recurrent in their writing and create their own personal trademark. That’s why as readers we are fans of specific authors and tend to read most of what they write, their telltale signs can be found in other stories, other flavours but they are still there. Now, SJM has her own way to write romance and her couples always follow this format:
1) The couple that is ultimately going to end up together starts from a position of opposition and contrast. They initially can’t stand each other, they lie to themselves thinking they want nothing to do with the other person.
2) They ALWAYS start from a position of cowardice and false comfort, and their journey is to open their eyes, understand that the way they are living is wrong, and accept that part of themselves that pushes them toward the other person.
Let’s look at the two canon couples this series:
Feysand: Feyre and Rhys start seemingly as enemies. We then learn that it’s all bullshit, but what is Feyre’s psychological state at the beginning of ACOMAF? She is in a BAD relationship, but she can’t find the strength and the guts to get herself out of that situation. It takes a while for her to open her eyes and see that what she needs is elsewhere. Similarly, when Rhys just got free of 50 years of mental and physical subjugation, the first thing that happens to him is to find out that he is tied to someone else. Someone who isn’t even available. His first instinct is to run. Once they finally admit what they feel for each other, they also embrace a part of themselves they were ignoring or rejecting. We have read 1000 times how Feyre used to draw stars and night skies her whole life before finding herself at peace in the Night Court. And Rhys was so traumatised by all he had been through that loving Feyre forces him to come to terms with it and understand that he is worthy of being loved despite Amarantha.
Nessian: At the beginning of her journey Nesta is a whole train wreak. She hates herself and her only way to get by, the coward comfortable way, is drunkenness and meaningless sex with strangers. Cassian is actually the most grounded character of this whole saga imo, he had already been through his personal journey but he was also scared shitless of Nesta and her reactions. And only when she finally forgives herself, she can accept him.
Now... what does this mean for Elain?
Elain has had her life turned upside down by her transformation. She is heartbroken because the man she was in love with can’t even stand the sight of her. The moment she emerged from the Cauldron she was claimed. Very, very wrong move from Lucien’s part, should’ve bidden his time like Cassian did. Elaine rejects this new life for moths, and of course she rejects Lucien. Lucien is shaken by this, BUT he is also running away. We have seen him being completely lost. He has a sense of responsibility and yes, sure, attraction towards Elain, but he is messed up and in ACOFAS it is mentioned that he also wants to spend as little time with her as possible.
It’s exactly the same situation as Feysand and Nessian, but in a different context of course. They both have to go through their own journey, accept themselves and then the other.
And we have had the same kind of hints we had with Feyre. Elain is not suited for the Night Court, she looks washed up in black, lifeless, darkness doesn’t suit her. She is light, flowers and sun. She is the Day Court, of which Lucien is in fact the heir.
And what about Azriel?
Azriel and Elain are in a very similar situation at the moment. They are both surviving a terrible heartbreak, they are both quiet and contemplative, they both see more than they let on. They are each other’s easy, comfortable choice. Also they both know that they can’t really be with each other, so if on one side this increases desire, on the other deep down they are happy basking in the knowledge that they won’t have to commit.
Since I started reading ACOSF I realised that the character of Gwyn had been created to be Az’s perfect match. She is also pure and traumatised, but she is already a fighter. Elaine and Azriel don’t work well together because they are too similar where it doesn’t matter, they need a counterpart to balance them when it comes to temperament, but similar enough deep down. Gwyn sees herself as scarred, marked after what happened to her. Just like Az constantly looks at his scarred hands. Elaine is all pureness and this is what attracts him about her, but it’s not what he needs.
Gwyn and Az are on the same journey: accept the fact that their past does not define them and that they are better people than what they think.
Lucien and Elain are on the same journey: find out who they really are and what kind of life they want.
I’m expecting something to happen between Elain and Azriel in the next book, if SJM had not shown any attraction between them I would’ve thought that maybe she was preparing something meaningful for them later on, but it’s so out there that it’s clear they are each other’s initial position of comfort and complacency, they may even bang (and I’m sure it’s going to be hot if it really happens), but it won’t get further than that.
Az’s shadows are attracted to Gwyn, they recognise a mating bond that neither of them understands yet.
And Elain is so focused on rejecting Lucien even when he’s not around that it’s typical SJM couple dynamic 101.

heIion is not good bi rep
hi, i'm lily, i'm bisexual, and i'm angry, in that precise order. someone on tiktok decided to say that sarah janet had decent lgbt representation so i'm going to discuss why heIion specifically is not good rep.
the following excerpts are from A C0urt of Wings and Ruin (final book in the AC0TAR series) by Sarah J Maas, pages 937-939. i have altered the names to follow tagging etiquette so stans don't see this post.
“Well, now I look as bad as Beron.” He strode straight past me with a wink, stalking into the sitting room. He grinned at AzrieI. “You handing Eris’s ass to him will be my new fantasy at night, by the way.”
AzrieI didn’t so much as bother to look over his shoulder at the High Lord. But Cass/ian snorted. “I was wondering when the come-ons would begin.”
right off the bat in this scene, it's established that heIion is flirtatious and often makes [sexually] suggestive comments. why is that questionable in this context, you may ask? because the idea of bisexual people being incredibly hormonal is a stereotype that's persisted for a long time.
this is the second time she's had a bi character with some semblance of significance to the story be hypersexual (the first was aedi0n in t0g, who was known as adarIan's whore and spoke of his sexual prowess). i'm not saying bisexual people can't be written as flirtatious and sexual, and i am in no way saying it's a bad thing to enjoy sex, but it's highly questionable when an author continuously writes bisexual characters with that stereotype. it reinforces that harmful stereotype and continues to give false impressions about the sexuality, as well as leaning into the idea that we are more likely to cheat due to this supposed universal high sex drive, which is totally untrue.
“It’s been what—four centuries now, and you three [AzrieI, Cass/ian, and M0r] still haven’t accepted my offer.”
M0r lolled her head to the side. “I don’t like to share, unfortunately.”
“You never know until you try,” HeIion purred.
The three of them in bed … with him? I must have been blinking like a fool because Rh/ys said to me, HeIion favors both males and females. Usually together in his bed. And has been hounding after that trio for centuries.
we've got heIion's bisexuality explicitly stated in the text! i really do think that was something sarah janet did right, instead of leaving it ambiguous and only slightly hinting at it. unfortunately, that's where the things she did right end.
so, heIion is bisexual. great! but in this scene this sexuality reveal is accompanied by heIion wanting a foursome with azrieI, cass/ian, and m0r, which he's been asking after for literal centuries. it's also stated that he likes males and females 'together in his bed.' not so great. why? because the idea of bisexuals being into threesomes and the like is a shitty and harmful stereotype that is seriously offensive to most bisexuals. it feeds into the idea of bisexual people being lustful and up for anything, which i can assure you is not an accurate generalisation at all.
i'm in awe at how sarah janet decided to write her lgbt representation here. it's honestly shocking how blatantly stereotypical this portrayal of bisexuality is, and how if you want to write good rep, you would not adhere to and perpetuate stereotypes. and no, i'm not overreacting, because heIion is a minor character without much pagetime and development, so this is the extent of his sexuality being discussed and portrayed, and it is pure, unjustifiable garbage. it's clearly stated that heIion likes threesomes (males and females together in his bed) and is even after a foursome with cass/ian, m0r, and azrieI. it's an obvious and well-known stereotype, it's completely unnecessary, and it's incredible that sarah janet decided this was how she was going to write her 'bi rep'.
in case it needed more stating: bisexual people aren't keen on threesomes just because they like more than one gender. bisexual people aren't there for you to fantasise about a threesome. not all bisexuals have a high sex drive. bisexuals aren't more likely to cheat.
I considered—Helion’s beauty and the others … Why the hell haven’t they said yes?
Rh/ys barked a laugh that had all of them looking at him with raised brows.
My mate just came up behind me and slid his arms around my waist, pressing a kiss to my neck. Would you like someone to join us in bed, Fayre darling?
My skin stretched tight over my bones at the tone, the suggestion. You’re incorrigible.
I think you’d like two males worshipping you.
My toes curled.
of course rh/ys mentioning heIion's bisexuality and interest in threesomes is used as a lead in for faysand's mental sexting. of course a character's bisexuality is used as an excuse for our least favourite heterosexual couple to fantasise about having their own threesome. i've got a bad feeling sarah janet only made heIion bisexual to use the infamous threesome stereotype so she could have faysand talk about having one, and if god forbid i'm right, that's incredibly shitty.
in conclusion, heIion is bad bi rep because he's portrayed using harmful stereotypes about bisexuals (lustful and hypersexual + threesomes) and isn't given any depth beyond that since he's a minor character, and sarah janet's attempt at being inclusive and having well-written diversity was an abject failure. i'll probably dissect m0r's disaster of a coming out as well at some point because holy shit, that was a trainwreck. but yeah. the end. 🏳️‍🌈

It's probs a really weird question to ask, but I just reread acotar and am in a desperate need for fanfic. Do you know anyone who wrote some post canon faysand stuff?
Not a weird question to ask - but actually, the reason I ended up coming over to ToG fic was because there was such little Feysand that wasn’t AU. Can anyone else rec this love nonnie any post-canon Feysand???
