LIONHEART
Lionheart is a film directed and written by Genevieve Nnaji, who also stars as the main protagonist, Adaeze Obiagu. Adaeze is the logistic director of a family-run company, but when her father suffers a heart attack, he hands the company to her brother Godswill instead of her, whom he often praises. This causes tension between her and her brother, though they make a good team and can work together to save the company from debt. Jane Bryce's "Signs of Femininity and Symptoms of Malaise: Contextualizing Figurations of 'Woman' in Nollywood" discusses and contradicts Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi's ideology of Nollywood films, which discusses the idea that most films follow the 'mirror image paradigm,' a way in which woman in Nollywood are always portrayed as either powerful and dangerous, or as though they are suffering, exhibiting and amplifying how this culture and society perceives them and alternatively also showcases what society expects of women (72). However, Bryce offers an alternative approach to this statement; she expresses that not all Nollywood films engage in this, and some films within the Nollywood sector challenge how we perceive gender roles and femininity. I believe Lionheart is an example of this as main protagonist Adaeze is neither power hungry, as she can work alongside her brother, nor a figure who is suffering; she is a very successful character, and finally, she is a character who contradicts Adeleye-Fayemi's point that ".. theater and television genres in Nigeria have been shaped by male-defined values" (71), as she is not a woman who is defined by male-defined values, or the 'mirror image paradigm.'

Tongues Wag over Siju Iluyomade’s Lavish 60th Birthday Bash
Pastor (Mrs.) Siju Iluyomade, wife of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David Parish in Victoria Island, is well-known as a great fashionista with a penchant for expensive jewellery. Despite her love for fashion, Iluyomade has proven over time that her life goes beyond fashion. As the convener of Arise Women, she has impacted society with her benevolence to the vulnerable.
The stylish woman was the cynosure of all eyes last Sunday, 18th February 2024, when a Special Service was held in her honour at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Oniru, Lagos. A Special Diamond Ball Reception was also held at Eko Hotel and Suites.
As gathered by Society Watch, the event was a gathering of who-is-who in the nation’s high society. Prominent Nigerians that graced the event include the banking wizard and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, First Ladies of Lagos and Ogun Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun.
Others are Toke Makinwa, Chief Rasaq Okoya and wife Shade, veteran broadcaster Chief Bisi Olatilo, Chief Samuel Adedoyin and wife, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Bisi Fayemi, Chief Nike Akande, Abiola Dosunmu, Iyalode of Lagos, Chief Bintu Tinubu, Former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire and Sarah Sosan among others.
But, a few hours after the pictures and video of the lavish event hit social media, her critics pummelled her with accusations of insensitivity. Many expressed their shock to see prominent members of the RCCG, including family members, church elders, and friends of the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe trooping out to the dance floor in celebration of Iluyomade’s 60th birthday.
Being the church where Wigwe worshipped before his death, he was not only a worshipper, but a prominent member who donated millions of naira to the church during his lifetime.
So, not a few people expected the church to mourn him, for at least, a considerable period. But the RCCG authorities clearly had a different opinion, thus they rallied around the ‘birthday girl’ as she threw a colourful party, more or less a carnival, to celebrate her diamond anniversary.
Her loyalists and fans also quickly came to her defence claiming that the party was shifted thrice for some reason so it wouldn’t be nice if she moved it again for whatever reason.
This defence, nevertheless did not go down well with the family of the late banker as they have allegedly written a letter to RCCG, City of David, warning them to stay clear from the funeral of their son. The family frowned at the path toed by the pastor, his wife, and the church considering the amount of huge support, both morally and financially Wigwe contributed to the church in his lifetime.

EFCC REOPEN CASES OF FRAUD UPTO N853.8billion
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made the decision to reinvestigate instances of fraudulent activities. According to reports, the EFCC has reopened money laundering cases against 13 former governors and some former ministers, with the amounts involved running into over N853.8bn. The affected persons include two former Ekiti State governors, Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose; former Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle; two former Enugu State governors, Chimaroke Nnamani and Sullivan Chime; former Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Adamu; former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso. Others are former Rivers State governor, Peter Odili; former Abia State governor, Theodore Orji; former Gombe State governor, Danjuma Goje; former Sokoto State governor, Aliyu Wamako; former Bayelsa State governor, Timipre Sylva; and former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido. Matawalle, who is currently serving as the Minister of Defence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu, is being probed for alleged N70bn money laundering; while Fayemi, who served as Minister of Solid Minerals Development in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet from November 11, 2015 to May 30, 2018, before resigning to contest the governorship election for his second term, is being investigated for an alleged N4bn fraud, while Fayose, a two-term governor of Ekiti State, is being investigated by the anti-graft agency for an alleged N6.9bn fraud. Nnamani is being probed for an alleged N5.3bn fraud; Chime is being investigated over an alleged N450m campaign fraud as part of the N23bn allegedly shared by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, while Adamu is under probe for alleged N15bn fraud. Kwakwanso is being probed for alleged non-remittance of N10bn pension fund; Orji is being investigated over alleged N551bn money laundering; while Odili is similarly being probed for alleged N100bn fraud. It is not yet clear how the probe of the ex-Rivers State governor will be handled as he obtained an order of perpetual injunction restraining the EFCC and other security agencies from a Federal High Court in March 2008, which has not been vacated to date. Goje is being probed by the commission for an alleged N5bn fraud; Wammako is being investigated for allegedly diverting N15bn; Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum under Buhari, is under probe for alleged N19.2bn money laundering; while Lamido is being investigated over an alleged N1.35bn fraud. Diezani is being probed over several alleged money laundering cases running into several billions of naira and millions of dollars. In conclusion, the reopening of cases involving fraud up to N853.8 billion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is a significant step towards combating corruption and ensuring justice in Nigeria. This move showcases the commitment of the EFCC to hold individuals accountable for their fraudulent actions and provides hope for a more transparent and equitable society. Moreover, it sends a strong message that no one is above the law, regardless of their wealth or position. As these cases are reopened, it is essential to support the EFCC in their pursuit of justice and to encourage a culture of honesty, integrity, and accountability in our nation. Read the full article

Tinubu’s loyalists push for Gbajabiamila’s Dismissal
Tinubu’s loyalists want Gbajabiamila’s Dismissed from Office. There are signs that President Femi Gbajabiamila's days as the Chief of Staff, or CoS, may be numbered in light of claims that he has been selling President Bola Tinubu's government positions to the highest bidder. According to information, Tinubu's supporters are becoming increasingly vocal in their desire to see Gbajabiamila gradually removed from the Presidential Villa. Remember that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appointed ten Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) last week at the behest of the President? But when Tinubu took office, the Chief of Staff is said to have substituted the majority of the President's authorized names for appointments. According to a source, one such instance saw the Ekiti REC's identity being changed to that of a former commissioner under the governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, who was in office at the time. "The man who was Fayemi's former commissioner, the REC from Ekiti that he (Gbajabiamila) put there, was not the person Asiwaju signed off on," the source added. Asiwaju gave his approval to Toyin, a.k.a. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, the former INEC legal adviser. However, two members of the President's cabinet met with him after the announcement was made to express their displeasure that the person they had recommended had been replaced. The President was furious and claimed that before signing the list, he looked up the woman's name. He called for his CoS, but he was stuttering when he got there. He was instructed to bring the signed list by the President. "The President stated that, according to what he has been told, everything he signs will be altered. The President cited three instances in which he signed a document that was later altered. Feeling guilty, he sent him one last warning. The woman's name needed to be on the list, he ordered. According to the insider, there was a strategy in place to gradually let Gbajabiamila leave the Villa. "I think this is the fifth time the CoS has made the President seem bad. According to the insider, there is a strategy to gradually remove him from Villa by offering him an ambassadorial role. According to another report, President Akeem Okunola, the PPS, had already partially completed his work. In addition, it was learned that the President had already assembled a team to support the CoS. The National Social Investments Programme (NSIP) issue was also raised by the source, who emphasized that Asiwaju had not proposed that individual for the role. It was Asiwaju who suggested Halima Sheu. Sadiya Farouq, the recently appointed Minister of Finance, fired Sheu because she was running a campaign for our party. Asiwaju promised to put her back in the same or a better position once she was fired. source credit ALSO READ: FG plans talks with looters amid the Forex Crisis Read the full article

By • Olalekan Fagbade Akeredolu vs Deputy; Faction emerges in House of Assembly, 12 Lawmakers write Chief Judge to discontinue Impeachment process The crisis has hit the Ondo State House of Assembly over the move by the lawmakers to continue the impeachment process against the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, despite the political solution preferred by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The speaker of the Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, had written to the Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola, to constitute a seven-man panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct leveled against Aiyedatiwa. Olamide said the restraining order by a Federal High Court in Abuja had elapsed. However, twelve lawmakers led by the spokesman of the Assembly, Oshati Olatunji, in a letter addressed to Justice Odusola, urged him to disregard the recent letter by speaker Oladiji. The twelve lawmakers, in the letter, said the speaker’s letter did not emanate from any of the sittings of members of the Ondo state House of Assembly. They said the order of interim injunction of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court still subsists, saying it was neither vacated nor set aside. The lawmakers said it would be contemptuous for them to act in contravention of the subsisting order of the Court The letter read: “The decision to transmit the purported letter of Ondo State House of Assembly dated 23rd October 2023, signed by Rt. Hon Oladiji Olamide Adesanmi was taken without a formal sitting of the House and our knowledge as members of the 10th Assembly. “It is our considered view that we should be honourable indeed by standing with our acceptance at the Abuja meeting to suspend the impeachment process and allow for an amicable and political solution to the issue for the benefits of governance and peace of Ondo State. “In the light of the foregoing, we the undersigned members of Ondo State House of Assembly, wish to dissociate ourselves from the letter titled: Request to Constitute a Seven-man panel, to investigate the Allegation of Gross Misconduct Against the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.” Those that signed the letter were Hon. Japheth Oluwatoyin, Hon. Jide Oguntodu, Hon. Tiamiyu Fatai Atere, Hon. Gbegudu Ololade, Hon Allen Oluwatoyin, Hon. Abitogun Stephen, Hon. Tope Komolafe, Hon. (Barr) Afe Felix, Hon. Oladapo Biola, Hon. Fayemi Olawumi, Hon. Oshati Olatu Oshati, who confirmed the contents of the letter, said they were not properly consulted. He said: “The letter is true. It actually emanated from us. If you look at the content of the letter, it addressed a particular point—the last letter sent to the Chief Judge of Ondo State by the Speaker. “The speaker did not consult well. It has to be a collective responsibility because we have lawyers among us who normally advise us on the implications of some of the things we do when it comes to legal issues. That’s why they hammered on the last letter being contentious as long as the vacation on the injunction has not been removed.” “It is just an inter-house conflict, but unfortunately, people coloured it and gave it so many meanings. But the content of that letter said it all. “We are after due process, as we promised the people of Ondo State. And since the national body of our party (APC) has intervened, we believe in exploring the reconciliatory move because the two gladiators are our fathers; they are the leaders”.
