            he’s sat in the ground, holding something. he’s got it all huddled up against his chest, making kissy faces at it. upon closer look, it’s a cat. kitten, rather. a long-haired black one, and it’s clearly not protesting the treatment. and it’s very clear he would be happy to sit here and do this for the rest of his life, but at the feeling of another presence, he looks up. “ sorry! sorry-- is this yours? ”

          the  seconds  have  ticked  to  minutes,  which  in  turn  has  rolled  into  hours  —  how  long  has  will  graham  spent  tossing  and  turning,  staring  the  clock  on  his  bedside  table  down  instead  of  drifting  off  ?  the  bright  blue  digits  read  3:37  am,  and  will  groans  as  he  twists  onto  his  stomach  and  pushes  his  face  into  the  pillow.  there  is  a  CREAK  of  a  floorboard  above  him,  and  will  lifts  his  head  as  he  hears  the  pattering  of  feet.  she’s  coming  down  the  hall  —  a  fact  now  evident  to  him  as  he  hears  the  groan  of  the  staircase  as  abigail  descends.

          his  bed  CREAKS  when  abigail  sits  down  beside  him,  and  he  can  feel  her  dropping  her  pillow  down  beside  his  —  will  pushing  himself  up  onto  his  elbows  to  look  at  her,  his  vision  taking  a  moment  to  really  FOCUS  on  her  in  the  dark.  ❝  aren’t  you  a  bit  old  to  be  staying  in  my  bed,  abigail  ?  ❞  it’s  a  passive  question  as  will  scoots  over,  lifting  the  blankets  to  allow  her  more  space  ;  she  was  welcome  to  stay  as  long  as  she  wanted.  of  course  she  was.  ❝  you  haven’t  slept  with  me  since  you  were  a  kid  —  are  you  alright  ?  ❞  ever  the  doting  father,  will  is  draping  the  comforter  over  abigail’s  body  as  she  settles  into  the  space  beside  him.

“He never shuts up about you, you know.”  She’s leafing through a magazine as she speaks  —  Some glossy-paged, trivial thing that she doesn’t really care about, but it’s expected of girls her age to be interested in such things, and so Abigail pretends for the sake of the normal people around them.  Feigned casualty.  Honest mischief.  “I haven’t found a secret diary with hearts around your name yet, but I’m almost sure he has one somewhere.”

A chuckle is given in response, albeit dry. “My, er, active imagination, fascinates him.” Will replies, but is quick to shift the topic of conversation. “How are you doing, Abigail?” The question was posed with sincerity, embedded with the love only a father could gift. “They said you ran away. Scaled the wall and everything.” A short pause. “. . . Do you wanna talk about it?”

            It’s a lovely day, the sun is out, the breeze is warm... It’s a  SHAME  for one of Helena’s favorite patients to be cooped up on a day like this. So, Helena makes her way to Abigail’s room, greeting the young woman with a smile as she enters after knocking three times on the door.     ❛❛  Good morning, Abigail.  ❜❜     The nurse says softly, walking over to open the curtains to let some light in.     ❛❛  I was thinking, you and I would go on a little walk, it’s such a nice day.  ❜❜

whether  it’s  your  sharp  tongue ,  your  tendency  to  blow  hot  or  cold ,  or  the   familiarity   of  you ,  you’re  the  coffee.  don’t  immediately  assume  that  your  undercurrent  means  you’re  bitter ,  a  common  misconception ,  because  people  who  like  coffee   always   make  it  work  for  them.  coffee  doesn’t  always  have  to  be  dark ,  it  can  be  a  warmth  that’s  comforting  and  the  first  start  to  a  day.  you  aren’t  nearly  as   tough   as  you  make  out  to  be ,  but  we’ll  keep  your  secret.  you’re  a  constant ,  won’t  ever  go  out  of  style.  not  everyone’s  taste ,  but  what  is  these  days?  an  unknown  quote  reads ,   “ i  like  drinking  coffee  alone  and  reading  alone . . .  i  realize  that  even  though  i  like  being  alone ,  i  don’t  fancy  being  lonely. ”   remember  you  don’t  always  need  to  face  things   yourself ,  there’s  a  reason  people  suggest ,  “ coffee? ”  when  they  want  to  spend  time  together.
