I was following along with a tutorial by @alainajensen, & suddenly realised the framework I'd made for it would also work beautifully for a fauxsaic & for faux stained glass, so... three versions of the same thing here! I love how more or less the same set of colours/shapes can look so different in a different style of art. I'm a little out of practice with both fauxsaicing and faking stained glass 🤪 so the mandala is still my favourite, but I like them all enough to post them. #flootart #flootdraws #flootcreates #fauxsaic #stainedglass #madewithapentip #procreate Everything good and blingy on the mandala was made with various brushes from Alaina's holo/iridescent/gold rush packs; they are hands down my favourite blingy brushes and I highly recommend you check them out! Izmir by Nick Misani and Madiha Malik

I had an AMAZING time working with letterer and jewelry designer Madiha Malik on this brand new fauxsaic and loved immersing myself in Islamic patterns and motifs. Madiha created the gorgeous geometric Arabic lettering on the on the four sides of this fauxsaic. The words translate (clockwise from the top) to hope, love, peace, and unity, which are particularly meaningful since she has spent the last couple weeks in Izmir, Turkey, assisting Syrian refugees. I’ll let her take it from here: “There is a hidden side of Izmir, where thousands of Syrian refugees are hiding far from civilization, working in fields to earn meager wages, and living with little to no basic resources. Because they are not officially recognized, they have to move every few months and find land elsewhere to avoid detection. Devastation, frustration and desperation looms over their faces as they have nowhere to turn with no support. A team of American volunteers with the help of a local refugee are working to distribute basic supplies to help these families survive. 100% of your contribution via this link goes towards this cause. Let's work together in hope [Amal], love [Hubb], peace [Salam] and unity [Wahda] to change the world around us. Thank you.”

Looking back at the recently completed piece in Rome from a couple of weeks ago and thought I’d share some stages of the painting process on the left side. Starting with a chalk drawing on a middle tone base coat, then moving into a rough brush imprimatura, finishing with aerosol. Meet our Guest Curator of the week @nickmisani! Nick is no stranger to Goodtype as we have been a long time fan of his and are honored to have his art featured in our latest book. Nick is a freelance designer currently based in Italy—where he's spending a few months working, eating a lot of great Italian vegan food, and restoring a vintage bicycle. Before going freelance, Nick was a book cover designer at Penguin Random House and, most recently, the senior designer at Louise Fili Ltd—a celebrated NYC studio that specializes in vintage lettering and elegant branding. This is where he developed the love for all things Art Nouveau and Art Deco that still inform his work. • In addition to lettering and typography, Nick is passionate about interior design and decorative arts (which informed his personal project @fauxsaics). Nick’s clients include Apple, Target, Airbnb, and Penguin Radom House.
