Maximizing Passive Income by Renting Out My X Pole on Fat Llama
If you're like me, you probably have some fitness or dance equipment at home that doesn't get as much use as it once did. I love my X Pole and enjoy using it, but there are stretches of time when it sits unused. That got me thinking: why not rent it out and let others enjoy it while making a little extra income on the side? Enter Fat Llama – the peer-to-peer rental platform that's been a game-changer for renting out items I already own.
Why Rent Out an X Pole?
X Poles are high-quality, professional-grade poles used for pole fitness, dance, and even aerial routines. They're sturdy, easy to set up, and in high demand for people wanting to practice at home without making the investment upfront.
Renting out my X Pole not only helps others pursue their fitness goals, but it also puts money in my pocket. Whether someone needs it for a private session, a photoshoot, or an event, there's a good market for short-term pole rentals.
The Fat Llama Advantage
Fat Llama makes the process incredibly easy. Listing the pole took just a few minutes. I uploaded some high-quality photos, added a brief description, and set my rental price. The platform also provides insurance and security, so I feel confident knowing my X Pole is protected if anything were to happen.
Here are some of the key perks:
Passive Income: My X Pole earns money even when I'm not using it.
Flexibility: I choose the availability and set my terms.
Community: I’ve connected with local dancers and fitness enthusiasts I wouldn't have met otherwise.
Crafting the Perfect Listing
When creating the listing, I focused on highlighting the key features that make the X Pole stand out.
Portability: I emphasized how easy it is to set up and break down. No drilling is required, which makes it perfect for temporary use.
Condition: I keep my pole well-maintained, and I made sure to mention that in the listing.
Use Cases: From home practice to events or workshops, I outlined how versatile the X Pole is. This helped attract renters from different backgrounds.
My Experience So Far
Since listing the X Pole, I've received several inquiries, especially during event seasons or when local dance studios are hosting workshops. People appreciate being able to rent high-quality equipment without the upfront cost, and I've made some great connections along the way.
Tips for Success
Great Photos: Showcase the pole set up in different spaces to highlight how easy and sleek it looks.
Accurate Descriptions: Be clear about the pole’s height, adjustability, and condition.
Quick Responses: Answer questions promptly. It builds trust and increases your chances of securing a rental.
Final Thoughts
Renting out my X Pole on Fat Llama has been a surprisingly easy way to earn extra income while letting others explore pole fitness. If you have equipment or gear sitting around, I highly recommend giving Fat Llama a try. You never know – your unused items could be exactly what someone else is looking for!

JoeJas’s Lax is breaking hip hop barriers with honour and perspective
youtube
JoeJas’s Lax is breaking hip hop barriers with honour and perspective. The self taught rapper has written and produced a fun video filled with cultural references, catchy hooks and spoken truths.
He has a unique point of view expressed through hooks as he side steps the typical commercial conscious hiphop of today to bring a chill 2000’s Neptunes vibe.
The video is colourful, expressive and moves along frames quickly. There’s a lot of concepts to unpack with plenty of messages to identify with.
I enjoyed his style and creative direction. There’s a lot of exciting things ahead for this artist so be sure to follow his YouTube channel.
JoeJas - Lax
Music Genre: Alternative Hip-Hop Vibe: Chill Located in: London Sounds like: Neptunes, Pharrell, Aminé & Smino.
JoeJas Is A rapper and producer (when producing going under the alias "HairyMuffinMan".) JoeJas has been rapping since he was 11 and started production at 17 because the beats he was on did not showcase the full vision he had for his music. He had then put out his self produced debut album ‘Planet’ in 2016 taking influences from punk, Jazz, Hip-Hop & R&B and blending them all in one. This genre mashing will then become a defining point in JoeJas’ music.
All music videos have been shot and edited by JoeJas too from 2017 showing the wide array of skills capable. In 2016 he had started his own line of events under his brand ‘Fat Llama’ which put on a Multitude of artists spanning from different genres around London. This was made because JoeJas felt that there wasn’t anything for people considered weird and not to meet in the middle and find new sounds they weren’t usually a-custom to. In 2020 JoeJas won the vans musician wanted competition with praise from Anderson Paak & J.I.D.

Buy Nothing, Borrow Almost Anything
The peer-to-peer economy has become big business with great examples from companies like Airbnb where users rent their homes and Uber where users share their cars. For fashion lovers it has become increasingly more popular to rent than own the latest fashion items with Rent the Runway a great example of how to do this conveniently. As consumers begin to embrace a circular economy there are more peer-to-peer services becoming available.
I was recently introduced to one of the leading platforms in the rental marketplace Fat Llama. The marketplace facilitates lending items that you own, but don't necessarily use very often. Think of that GoPro camera that you got for Christmas or the time you were going to be the next Mario Testino and invested in some expensive photography equipment. Well, now you can make money from these items by sharing them with others. This is the simple concept behind Fat Llama.
The Founders
Fat Llama was founded in 2005 by Chaz Englander, Rosie Dallas and Owen Turner Major, after a frustrating experience trying to renovate a warehouse conversion and struggling to hire the equipment needed. The idea to make borrowing safe, reliable and convenient seemed like the answer. Why the name Fat Llama you may ask? It was inspired by the advice in Seth Godin's book Purple Cow, which is all about how to be a remarkable business. It also happens to be a memorable name so chances are you won't forget it! There was no backup plan for the founders and with over $10 million in investment funding I'm glad it all worked out.
Why use the platform?
It does take some trust that the items that you share will be returned in the same condition, but if this is the only thing stopping you from using the platform, Fat Llama's insurance policy will take care of this. The insurance backed policy will cover items up to the value of $30,000, which encourages users to at least try the service as you have nothing to lose! It will also give you a chance to:
Make money by lending out your items
Save time by borrowing instead of buying
Borrow quality items
Reduce your impact on the environment by renting instead of buying
The service is currently only available in the US and UK. The founders will focus on expanding into more US cities and work slowly to build the vision where items can be borrowed all over the world in minutes.
So the next time you are thinking to buy something, why not borrow it instead. I like to live by the saying that "having experiences is more important than owning stuff".

RESOURCES
I have been slowly making a list of all the resources I will need when shooting the short film. I have had to divide the list in to two sections, what I will buy and what I will rent. Luckily I have found a website that allows you to rent almost anything in terms of equipment. This website is called FATLLAMA and after a very long verification progress I managed to get an account. The first thing I will need to rent out is a couple of tube LEDs. This will the main lighting source in the room as it will be shot at night time and there needs to be additional lighting. Currently I have found a listing that seems appealing.
Another item that I would rent out is a phone gimbal/ stabiliser. This is very necessary for when I’m shooting as I have a lot of panning shots to make that need to be smooth for the clips to flow together. The listing that I found is this;
I have decided to keep the list of equipment I’m renting small because I only have plans of renting the items for 24 hours which means I need to be mindful of my time. The total of the items I’m renting is £45 x additional website fee.
The list of resources I need to purchase involve: - Ashtray - Fake joint butts - Rolling tray - Disposable cups
List of equipment for shooting day: - iPhone - Light reflectors - Main and back up SD card - Canon 750d - Additional lenses - Laptop and charger - Lacie drive
