Of Fate and Balance, Season 2 Episode 2
Last episode ended with the party on the boat, finally seeing land on the horizon, getting ready to arrive in Icobury. They discuss plans moving forward before deciding that they'll all, except for Gorvi and Elemin, go to Pool's house about 30 min from the docks and split off from there.
They get off the boat, and Ruthie immediately spots someone who clocks the tilted scale on the ship and runs; Ruthie starts to run after them. Acera stops her though and sends Arawn after the person instead, and Pool, Carlin, Acera, and Ruthie head to the library.
Gorvi, on the docks with Elemin, is confronted by a dock worker who asks for 30GP per day for the ship to stay. Gorvi intimidates him into taking 10GP per day.
Arawn, following the person who saw the scale, catches up as they approach the local Church of Kalama - the ruling church of Icobury. Arawn, now knowing the person's destination, grabs and threatens them. The person says that any information they give up with land them in a worse situation, and eventually tries to escape, leading Arawn to stab and kill them. Arawn drags their dead drunk body back to an alleyway and put it in their portable hole before heading back to the ship. Arawn investigates them and their body on the ship and finds the symbol of the cult stitched into their cloak and a note about payment for information, though no brand on their body.
In his home, the library, Pool grabs three sets of sending stones, a magic pearl for Elemin, and a hat for Ruthie that allows her to cast disguise self at will. Pool runs a set of the sending stones back to the ship for Gorvi while Carlin, Ruthie, and Acera head to a nearby Church of Lev so Acera can get her letters sent off.
Carlin, Ruthie, and Acera arrive at the Church of Lev to find a person keeping the place up. Upon seeing Acera, they immediately run over and offer a seat and tea and anything she needs. They introduce themself as Dagny, a head of this church. Acera asks for a messenger to send some messages immediately, and Dagny sends a local messenger off to the Church of Kalama for one of their long-distance messengers. The messenger returns with an additional messenger and a note from the Church of Kalama asking for a meeting with Acera. She eventually decides to agree and offers to arrive at the Church in the morning. They head back to the library.
In the meantime, Pool arrives back at the ship, hands off a sending stone, and takes Elemin back to the library to show off his magic items. Pool gets the update via Carlin's new sending stone but heads off to see Aleem, his librarian mentor.
From the ship, Arawn spots a faded poster hanging on a message board on the docks - a poster with Pool's face on it that says "Wanted" above and "for murder" below, with a gold piece reward for capture.
In the library, Ruthie and Carlin argue about who will go with Acera to meet with the Church of Kalama in the morning. Acera slips away, and when Ruthie walks out, Elemin follows. Carlin finds Acera, and they talk. Ruthie and Elemin talk as well, and eventually, they all find themselves preparing to rest.

"Always coming and going, aren't you? And I have to clean up afterwards." Milly's Rhaenyra is right on the money about the patterns of Daemon's behavior towards Rhaenyra, so let's recap the many ways in which we've seen this exact dynamic play out between Daemon and Rhaenyra throughout the series:
Tumblr media
Season 1 Episode 1: Daemon's callousness towards Baelon's death is the final nail in the coffin that forces Viserys's hand against him and first pushes him to declare Rhaenyra his heir in Daemon's stead. This puts Rhaenyra in a precarious position where she will be forced to fight for the rest of her life against those who do not wish to see her on the Iron Throne. (Viserys eventually came to truly believe in Rhaenyra as his heir, but the impetus to first declare her as such had more to do with his guilt and his need to create distance between Daemon and the Iron Throne).
Tumblr media
Season 1 Episode 2: Daemon steals the egg that should have been Baelon's, and Rhaenyra has to fly to Dragonstone and convince him to give it back before Viserys's council pushes him into drastic measures.
Tumblr media
Season 1 Episode 4: Daemon brings Rhaenyra to a brothel in Flea Bottom, only to leave her alone and vulnerable in a dangerous and unfamiliar place, leaving her to find her own way back to the Red Keep. He's the one who puts her in a position where her reputation comes into question, but Rhaenyra is the one who has to fix it by marrying Laenor, a man who cannot give her children.
Tumblr media
Season 1 Episode 10: Daemon indulges his own desire to prepare for war against Rhaenyra's wishes, leaving Rhaenyra to labor and deliver her stillborn daughter alone even though Daemon is the father.
Tumblr media
Season 2 Episodes 1 & 2: Daemon uses Mysaria for his own ends and makes a promise to her on Rhaenyra's behalf, without Rhaenyra's permission. He then leaves Dragonstone entirely, leaving Rhaenyra to deal with Mysaria's fate.
Tumblr media
Season 2 Episodes 1 & 2: Daemon uses Rhaenyra's request for revenge to get at his own personal desire for revenge, resulting in Jaehaerys's death. When confronted about it, he leaves Dragonstone and breaks contact with her entirely. This deals a massive blow to Rhaenyra's reputation, gives their enemies ammunition, turns Rhaenyra's council against her, and leads directly to the attempt on Rhaenyra's life, all of which Rhaenyra now has to deal with on her own.

Octavia WILL bend the knee
Tumblr media
Here I will go in-depth into why Octavia will not be given the same grace in the fandom as Blitz did when she has her Full Moon Reckoning with Stolas.
NOTE/WARNING: I have seen and read the leaks, and they will be part of the reason why I feel this way.
What I mean by Full Moon Reckoning:
This is when the writers finally allow a victim of Stolas to be fully and rightfully angry at him for all the transgressions he has done to them, and more importantly when the FANDOM treats the actual victim's pain as the take back my power moment that it is.
The reason for this distinction is that I have noticed that Stolas is the fan favorite, and therefore it seemed all his wrongdoings got default reasons for not being that bad.
However, when Full Moon aired an odd and swift negative wind hit his character, and it has not abated.
Even with the newer ep the wind didn't lessen it got stronger.
It's like some spell broke.
It feels like a genie that can't be put back in the bottle.
He has gone from the fan-favorite to the most criticized.
The fandom is pretty unanimously on Blitz's side and has stayed on it.
However, as I've stated Octavia will not get this.
Octavia's pain in Sinmas is going up against:
Blitz and Stolas are male
Octavia is female, and a female in a Yaoi series at that. The women exist only as one-note plot devices for male pain, and that's even when said women themselves are technically leads(Loona, Millie).
2. Blitz and Stolas are main characters
Octavia is a side character who has barely been in two episodes spanning two seasons.
3. In the leaks Octavia takes up for her mother twice
Basically, she goes to bat for the fandom's hatesink.
4. Two other fan favorites(Fizz and Asmodeous) are written to be Team Stoliz
Plus, apparently, they are going to be against Octavia's mother and therefore Octavia.
5. THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON why Octavia is going to get it both barrels from the fandom is that Blitz and Stolas are canonically a gay couple by Sinmas.
Viv said an important arc will be finished by season's end, and I saw a post from her patron where she point-blank says they are a couple by the end of season two. Also more proof to me is that Blitz is very affectionate to Stolas in the trailer and in the leaks.
Speaking of, if you go to YouTube pretty much every comment is praising the ship sailing. A daughter is painfully estrangling herself from her beloved father, while he cries and begs for her mercy, and all everyone can talk about is getting wet over a toxic ship flying into her pain.
Recap TLDR:
Blitz got fandom grace because he is THE main character and was at the time rightfully against Stolas.
While Octavia will get to have her say she is also a woman bit player up against Blitz THE male main character who is now with Stolas THE male fan favorite in a gay romantic relationship.
She will also make the unforgivable sin of taking up for her cheated on mother Stella the hatesink.
Blitz and Stolas will also have the backing of two other favorites Fizz and Ozz as well as the rest of I.M.P.
The YouTube comments ignoring her anguish for the now canon ship are simply a taste to come of what the fandom as a whole is going to do.
Basically, this poor girl doesn't stand a chance.
I WANT to eat crow.
I realllly do.
That's why I employ the fandom to give the same grace they gave Blitz these last two episodes to Octavia as well.
However, this show is made by a fujoshi for fujoshi and that's why I know in my heart of hearts she will be damned instead.
Now, I've stated that the fandom is probably going to kiss the Stolitz ring against Octavia, but let's go into what I think the show is going to do.
Yes, after a year in the show and two seasons overall, Blitz finally got to angrily reinsert his personhood to Stolas, and yes it was cathartic and I'm glad it happened.
However, that doesn't change the fact that four episodes after Full Moon his fate is to be his abuser's boyfriend.
Also, if the merchandise is said to be hints of the creator's thoughts then his final destiny is to be his husband.
Basically, if the main character ultimately bent the knee then so will Octavia.
While the fujoshi in charge does allow them to assert their pain their ultimate fate is to comply.
Essentially it's just lip service to shut critics up.
She, and apparently his voice actor, has said don't worry everything will be alright, and by everything it's obvious they mean Stolas.
She has also said she likes happy endings so you can bet there will be none given to Stolas that doesn't have Blitz and Octavia by his side.
Also make no mistake Blitz's own daughter is also there to help the story ignore their pain. The seed was planted in Seeing Stars when Octavia warmly hugged, hung out, and was gaslit by a complete stranger. It's also why she's her ''sister' now in the pride poster.
Yea, Loona has a big part to play in season three alright, and it's to brainwash Octavia's distress so Stolitz can reign supreme.
Realistically if a fujoshi fangirl weren't writing this show this is what would happen:
Now that he has the crystal; Blitz would completely cut ties with the guy who sexually extorted and depersonalized him for a year. Not become his boyfriend/husband.
Sometime in season three Octavia finds out about her father's (poorly written) abuse and attempted murder attempts by her mother. However, instead of seeing him as a martyr, she states that Stella's actions toward him DON'T NEGATE HIS toward Octavia.
He still broke his own daughter's mental health with his infidelity and abandoned her as a consequence of his own actions i.e. illegal grimoire lending.
She then states she still wants him, and her other toxic parent, out of her life for good.
Her final words are Goodbye Dad... No.... Stolas.
Stolas for his part should be having some serious self-reflection by season 3. He should be strongly asking himself if Blitz was worth Asmodeus's self-fulling prophecy of losing his title, wealth, home, and daughter.
It should be NO, but a fujoshi is steering.
What she is going to do instead is make them use Octavia's pain to trauma bond into domestication.
Then Loona and the writing, in general, is going to make sure Octavia solely blames Stella: The Convenient Stolas Trump Card so they can all just be a family already.
Bonus: We will even get to see Octavia kick her mother from the palace with Stolas' signature GET OUT this time.
Ultimately Blitz and Octavia's misery will not mean anything. As the official car sticker merch states they will be a blended family and their suffering by Stolas be damned.
However, I do have a small (delusional) theory that Ms. Fujoshi could throw a curveball:
Apparently, she has been liking a lot of Vassago and Stolas romantic fanart, but with a of course jealous Blitz.
What if Vassago is Disney Princess Stolas's true endgame.
The guy who gets to show him what an actual healthy relationship looks like, and for a romantic like him this would be his true Prince Charming.
Sure Stolas ending up with a prince(and therefore getting everything back through him) just drives home that dirty, poor, broken, baggage-having, hypersexual Blitz was ultimately never going to be good enough for Purity Angel Stolas in the first place.
However, on the bright side, he's finally away from his abuser...
So on that note, Blitz's true endgame is Fizz.
His real first friend. His real first love.
The correct star-crossed lovers.
The person who actually knows the true Blitz and can meet him blow for blow when he gets messy instead of running away crying with self-pitying gaslighting.
However, since she seems to hate her own main character Blitz's true endgame is going to be tainted.
Foreshadowing Number 1:
I've always found it curious that right after the can we make-out line the very next scene is Fizz coming back to Ozz wiping his mouth.
Why even put that thought in the audience's head unless....
Foreshadowing Number 2:
When Blitz shoots the stalker the mirror that Fizz and Ozz are kissing in front of breaks right down the middle, splitting them, with Blitz's face the last thing seen in the fracture.....
Basically, she is going to have Blitz and Fizz get together by cheating on Ozz, and the fandom is going to blow them both up for it.
Other Tidbits:
Blitz still very much has feelings for Fizz.
Even how he acted when he met him shopping in Full Moon showed this, and he fully blushed in the storyboard.
This is something he has never done for Stolas.
You know the endgame we should be rooting for and all that.
Also Fizz full-on blushes(cage) in the Opps storyboard.
Of course, the show properly erases those because we can't have anyone shipping Blitz or Fizz with their true soulmate.
Apparently, in a leaked script bit, Blitz falls in love with Stolas because he reminds him of Fizz. I mean my dear Stolitz shippers it should be a yikes on a bike for that alone.

Weekly Recap | August 26th-September 8th 2024
Tumblr media
HAPPY 9-1-1 SEASON 8 PREMIERE MONTH EVERYONE!!
Couldn't post last Monday because of the Ao3 being down, and then I was pretty busy all week preparing for a con I went to this weekend! So you get two weeks worth of fics! And since I've made you wait, I'm posting on Sunday instead of Monday!
Complete
🔥be sweet to me baby by sibylsleaves/ @sibylsleaves (S7E4: Buck Bothered and Bewildered, PWP | 2K | Explicit): “You’re not replaceable,” Eddie says. “I—I know,” Buck stutters. “Do you?” Eddie asks. “Buck,” he says, low and urgent. His hand curls around Buck’s hip. Tell me how I can prove it to you.” “I—” Buck chokes out. The silence pulls taut between them. All he wanted, all week, was Eddie’s attention. He has it, now. And he won’t survive it. “Like this?” Eddie asks, and then the hand on Buck’s hip moves, and he’s unzipping Buck’s jeans, and—oh, god. - after the pick-up game, Eddie clears some things up.
let me be your last first kiss by justhockey (Post-S7, Getting Together | 3K | Mature): He can feel his cheeks catching fire as Buck looks up at him with those maddening fucking eyes and impossibly kissable lips. He’s pouting, his bottom lip sticking out slightly in a way that makes Eddie want to lean down and suck it into his mouth - nibble at it until it’s red, and swollen, and tender. Until it’s his. He looks away. He has to. Otherwise he’ll do something stupid - do something reckless. And he’ll put his life on the line for Buck any day of the week, but he won’t risk his heart. He can’t. He wouldn’t survive the breaking.
no others, before thee by Maira/ @carrierofthepaperclips (God!Buck, Established Buddie | 3K | Teen): Eddie wakes up tied to a chair and with blood in his mouth. The funny thing? His captors don't even realise they've made two very, very big mistakes, only one of which is kidnapping him. Because they didn't kidnap a god. They kidnapped a god's husband.
let the bough break, let it come down crashing by Maira/ @carrierofthepaperclips (Soulmates AU, Post-S7 | 3K | General): Every person is gifted a soulmate by the universe, the one person who bears a matching Mark to their own - their Fated. There's no guarantee that they will meet this person, but if they are lucky enough to do so, they definitely don't go against the choice the universe has made. Unless you're Evan Buckley, and you decide that instead of a staying happily ever after with a perfectly lovely soulmate, you'd actually prefer to be with the one person who makes your life worth living.
stars in the sky, kisses on your lips by Tizniz/ @tizniz (Getting Together | 3K | General): A night out in the desert. Stars in the sky. And risks to take. Sounds like the perfect opportunity.
Went a Little Like This by thedesertpenguin/ @thedesertpenguin (Post-S7, Accidental Kissing | 3K | Teen): Buck kisses Eddie on a random morning. Two problems with this: 1) They are not together 2) They don't realize they've kissed
pining and anticipation (I don't want you like a best friend) by heartbeatdiaz/ @loserdiaz (Getting Together | 3K | Teen): Buck inadvertently challenges Eddie to try to hit on him by laughing at the fact that the guy has no game. It ends up being the best thing ever.
my wildest of dreams takin' on a new life by heartbeatdiaz/ @loserdiaz (Roommates, PWP | 3K | Explicit): Buck is a little freak that can't stop listening to Eddie touching himself.
Three Strikes and You're Out by eightpackdiaz (Post-S7, Infidelity | 3K | Teen): Buck's soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend chooses to ignore him every time the kiss cam points in their direction. Eddie does the opposite
Red As Strawberries in Summertime by fruitsdoesnotknow/ @tayf-ghost (Post-S7, Getting Together | 4K | Teen): There's a list of groceries written down on a piece of paper, and Buck can't help if he wants to add "kiss Eddie" to it over and over and over again.
will you remember me? by bucksclipboard/ @excuseme-greentea (Amnesia, Getting Together | 4K | Teen): You know the trope: Someone suffers from amnesia and they don’t remember their partner. Well, this is the opposite. Buck doesn’t remember a thing – except that he loves Eddie. How is Eddie supposed to tell him they’re not actually together?
Crazy For You by Inell/ @inell (Post-S7, Getting Together | 4K | Teen): While hanging out watching a baseball game & drinking beer, Eddie shares his honest opinions regarding Buck’s relationship. Four days later, he confronts Buck to find out why he’s been avoiding him since then.
I can fix that by 42hrb/ @exhuastedpigeon (Post-S7, Getting Together | 4K | Mature): “What - what is that?” “What’s what?” Eddie asked, but the smile tugging at his mouth, the smile that was just slightly obscured by the hottest mustache Buck had ever fucking seen, told Buck Eddie knew exactly what he was talking about.
Eddie Diaz: Gay Disaster by eightpackdiaz (Post-S7, Getting Together | 4K | Teen): Eddie's worried he might be homophobic, but it turns out he's just in love with his best friend.
on my way to believing by rainbow_nerds/ @rainbow-nerdss (Post-S7, First Date | 5K | Teen): Buck stood there in the doorway and told Eddie everything. How he felt, how he’d been waiting until the time was right, how he didn’t expect Eddie to feel the same but he just had to put it out there, couldn’t keep this a secret between them. And Eddie might have been surprised at first, but he felt the same. He feels the same. And today, finally, after so long, they’re going on a date. Their first date. His last first date, if Buck has any say in the matter.
And They Were Roommates by eightpackdiaz (Post-S7, Getting Together | 5K | Teen): Thanks to the destruction of hotel property and the help of their closest friends and family (and exasperated now-exes), Buck and Eddie finally figure some things out.
whatever you like by clytemnestra/ @clytemnestraaa (Established Buddie, Miscommunication | 6K | Mature): “Is something wrong?” Eddie says. “No! It’s all good. Really, really good." Buck says. "Just, I want it to be good for you too. Like, is this actually what you want, or is this what you think I want?” Eddie frowns. “Is this not what you want?” He says. - Buck and Eddie (not) talking about it.
And You Are Where I Wanna Be by fruitsdoesnotknow/ @tayf-ghost (First Date | 6K | Teen): Buck and Eddie find out their first date is slightly more awkward than they thought it would be. Good thing they're both desperately and hopelessly in love with each other.
No One Loves Me Like You by JJK/ @trenchcoatsandtimetravel (S5E18, Love Confessions, Unrequited Love | 7K | Teen): After Hen and Karen's vow renewal, Eddie battles his repression to confess his feelings for Buck. Blindsided, Buck doesn't think he loves Eddie that way and turns him down. They both spiral and things get awkward. Will Buck figure out his feelings before it's too late?
Buck Has a Boyfriend (He Swears) by thedesertpenguin/ @thedesertpenguin (Post-S7, Eddie Coming Out | 7K | Teen): Eddie's fighting again, it's the only explanation. Aka: Eddie’s being secretive and Buck desperately tries to remember he has a boyfriend
you can feel it on the way home by lizzybizzyzzz/ (Crack, Animal Transformation | 7K | Teen): or, after eddie comes in contact with a bundle of magic catnip inside a problematic botánica, he finds himself in the care of his team; can the magic be reversed or will he become firestation 118's new furry mascot? (Part 1 of you are in love)
you can see it with the lights out by lizzybizzyzzz / (Crack, Animal Transformation | 1,7K | General): Buck narrows his eyes at him suspiciously. “Did you smell that stuff on purpose so you wouldn’t be on dish-duty?” Through his second last nectarine slice, Eddie hisses at him. or, eddie is turned into a cat and buck doesn't really know what to do with him, a coda (Part 2 of you are in love)
Sealed With a Kiss by Inell/ @inell (Soulmate AU, Different First Meeting, S1 | 8K | Teen): When Buck goes to the beach to get away from Abby’s empty apartment, he ends up saving a kid from drowning. He isn’t expecting to meet Christopher’s father, Eddie, who also happens to be Buck’s soulmate.
like a river that doesn't know where it's flowing (i found where i'm going) by oklahoma/ @sunshinediaz (Post-S7, Eddie Coming Out | 10K | Teen): After coming out as gay, finally, Eddie has a well-deserved hot girl summer witnessed by his closest friends and family. Everyone is supportive and encouraging, except for Buck. What could that possibly mean?
she’ll never get to eat you like your heart's a pomegranate by colonoscopys/ @colonoscopys (Fluff | 10K | General): or, Five Times Buck was the Weird Parent, and One Time Eddie was
Weary Memory by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Buck&Bobby, Post-S7 | 12K | Teen): After an argument about the circumstances of Bobby's sudden retirement, Buck and Bobby each find themselves inexplicably experiencing one of the other's difficult childhood memories.
🔥the tortured poets department by colonoscopys/ @colonoscopys (Post-S4E14: Survivors, Magic AU | 19K | Explicit): The first time Buck touched him, Eddie blew an ambulance up.
🔥Where there's smoke by rainbow_nerds/ @rainbow-nerdss (Multiverses | 37K | Teen): His eyelids are heavy. His lungs ache. The smoke is dense and thick, slowly suffocating him. Eddie feels himself drift as Buck’s voice penetrates the smoke, cuts through the fog in his brain. “Eddie, stay with me. Stay with me, Eds.” Eddie wants to stay. He wants to open his eyes and see Buck. He doesn’t want to leave. But he’s so tired, and sleep is calling him. Maybe it will be okay. Maybe his dreams will be sweet. Maybe there’ll be peace, there. And maybe, if he just rests for a little while, he’ll be able to find his way back.
🔥 Long Death by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Post-S7, Vampire AU | 79K | Explicit): In the summer of 2024, a never before seen form of vampirism breaks out in Los Angeles. Just as Eddie is about to get his son back. Six months later, Buck's life is permanently changed.
WIP
🔥 the wayward son by brewrosemilk/ @gayhoediaz (Post-S7 Spec, Sex Club | 3/5 | 33K | Explicit): Eddie misses his son, grows a mustache, pines after his best friend, and becomes a regular at a gay sex club. That last part is either an indulgence or an inevitable, somewhat self-destructive conclusion to several decades worth of compulsory heterosexuality and catholic guilt. Don’t ask him which.
Gentle On My Mind by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon Divergent, Shannon Lives, Buck/Eddie/Shannon | 2/? | 13K | Explicit): In which Shannon lives, tells a lie, and sends hers, Eddie's, and Buck's lives down a very different path.
🔥 Any Other Way by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon Divergent, S2 | 18/21 | 92K | Mature): In a switcheroo alternate universe, Buck spends young adulthood in the military, while Eddie, who has no idea Christopher exists, spends his twenties messing around, finally enjoying freedom away from his family’s expectations. When they both end up in Los Angeles, at the 118, some things are different, and others will be the same in any universe.
🔥 Things We're All Too Young to Know by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon S1-S6, Divergent Post-S6 | 135/? | 430K | Mature): This is a love story. Even if it doesn’t always look like it. Even if it doesn’t always feel like it. A look back on Eddie and Buck's lives up to now, and what led them to each other, interpreted from the current 9-1-1 canon.
🔥 go and kill, go and die by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Zombie Apocalypse AU | 6/14 | 26K | Mature): The 118 are a group of survivors in a small California town in the wake of a zombie apocalypse. For months they've been isolated and safe. But the arrival of some new players, the search for some missing loved ones, will shake everything up and put their little team in jeopardy.
Re-Read
one single thread of gold (tied me to you) by heartbeatdiaz/ @loserdiaz (Canon Divergent, Teacher Buck | 4K | Teen): Eddie met Evan when he was a bartender in Peru and Eddie was on vacation with his cousins. They had a one night stand and Eddie woke up the next morning to an empty bed and a disappointed heart. Just for the same guy to end up being Chris' teacher years after.
🔥 situations, circumstances, miscommunications ( i just may like some explanations ) by heartbeatdiaz / @loserdiaz (Didn't Know They Were Dating | 4K | Teen): "You didn't know?" Eddie asks, calmer but not less confused. He frowns. "How could you not know?" "You never said anything?" Buck tilts his head to the side. "We were dating?” “I guess not,” Eddie sighs. His heart is beating a little faster, an unpleasant buzz beneath his skin as he all but chokes on a feeling he can’t quite name— it could be hurt or disappointment or maybe a mix of both. In that moment, he knows three things very clearly. 1. Buck is going to be the death of him. 2. He is in love with the most dense, most oblivious man on planet Earth. 3. He is too gay and, honestly, too old for this shit.
Family Feud: First Responders by Princessfbi/ @princessfbi (Secret Relationship | 3K | General): The FireFam go on Family Feud.

Izzy Arc Thoughts, the post!
Having now watched the three episodes three times over (some of them more than that shhhhh), I still have a BUNCH of thoughts about the rest of the crew I want to percolate on, but I had some thoughts on Izzy that I finally feel confident in, as to what's going on in with his character since the end of season 1, and especially the arc he has between Impossible Birds and The Innkeeper.
Being upfront: I wasn't sure what kind of arc the show would do with Izzy and we still obviously don't know the full scope of it, as we have five more episodes to go, but it's definitely been intriguing in a way I didn't anticipate. I figured Izzy would continue on with his antagonistic role, and he still might, but it seems like D Jenks is having fun letting Con have a role with more emotional nuance than in season one, and seeing as that role has an impact on everyone else, I wanted to share my thoughts on what I think is going on with him in the episodes that we've seen so far. I also wanted to start my in depth analysis with a character I don't care about nearly as much (being honest!) as I do the rest of the crew, but who also has a huge impact on two characters I do care very much about, Ed and Stede. I'm planning to analyze Ed and Stede in each episode before we get eps 4 and 5!
This is a long post! It features many quotes directly , transcribed by me and taken from the captions by Max. I used a read more because the whole thing is over 6k in length and analyzes the dynamic presented between Izzy and Ed and Izzy and Stede presented in episodes 1-3 of season 2 of Our Flag Means Death. If the read more doesn't work, that is not on me, sorry.
Alright, so recap: when we left Izzy, he had lashed out at Ed for the person he was choosing to become and the manner in which he was expressing himself and his feelings - the blanket fort, the binging sweets, the singing for the crew, the sharing his feelings and asking to be called Edward, the encouraging a talent show, and then, the cleaning up and comfortably wearing a colorful printed robe of nice, soft fabric. (Quotes: "I should have let the English kill you. This, whatever it is that you've become... is a fate worse than death." "(growled) No. This, this is Blackbeard. Not some (breath) namby-pamby in a silk gown, pining for his boyfriend.”) When these insults get the aggressive reaction from Ed that Izzy associates with the version of Ed he prefers, he encourages him with a smile, hand cupping Ed's cheek, and choking out "There he is." Ed shoves his hand away, backing away with a closed off expression, and Izzy's smile dies and he closes the distance between them. He states what he wants from Ed, makes a threat, and walks away without waiting for a response. (Quote: "Blackbeard is my captain. I serve Blackbeard. Not Edward. Edward better watch his fuckin' step.”)
The next time we see Izzy, Ed has donned his leathers, made his face up with dark make up to look more fierce, and is cutting off Izzy's pink toe and feeding it to him. We know from episode 9 that cutting off toes and feeding it to people was a classic Blackbeard move. For Izzy, this is several things: 1) confirmation that Blackbeard is back, the one who would never let a threat stand and does a good maim 2) a punishment for said threat (Quote: "Threaten me again, ever... I'll feed you the rest. Understand?" "Y-Yes, Blackbeard.") 3) a confirmation that he has his boss back, that whatever Stede has done to his boss' brain is over.
We get confirmation of that third point when Izzy speaks with the crew as they're getting rid of Stede's books and possessions - "Blackbeard is himself again," with a broad smile. Later, we see Izzy abandon the crew on a small island, presumably on Ed's direct orders, as he waves goodbye to Bonnet's playthings - them - as they depart. Izzy has a gun as he stands beside Ed, and they're watching as Frenchie finishes the new flag and hoists it.
That's where we left Izzy in Season 1: standing besides Ed as Blackbird returns to being Blackbeard for a brand new era of being Blackbeard, greatest pirate who ever lived, terror of the seas.
And when we return to the show, that's kind of what we get. Edward is being Blackbeard and Blackbeard is the terror of the seas, a Wanted Poster with so many crimes they're covering both sides of the poster (and yeah some of them are very silly, what midwifery was Ed up to, exactly-), and yet, Izzy is not happy when we see him.
What I think the show works to establish in episode 1 is that what Izzy wanted back was the man he saw as the old Blackbeard, who wasn't afflicted by these feelings of love or softness or "weakness", which he views as something that Stede Bonnet inflicted upon Edward. We know that, because it's how he phrased it to Chauncey - that "[Stede] had done something to [his] boss's brain". He seemed to view these feelings as something akin to an infection from Stede, that was corrupting the Blackbeard he knew and respected to something less than. Izzy wanted the old Blackbeard back and he thought that when Ed took his toe and fed it to him, said he'd killed Lucius, all that I recapped, that he'd gotten just that. A return to his preferred normal, where everything makes sense exactly as he thinks it should. Ed back to normal, it's Blackbeard time, getting rid of the dead weight and all that.
Except that's not what he's gotten at all, and I don't think Izzy had fully grasped why prior to episode 1. He has suspicions, of course, but it takes him a while to build to a confrontation about it.
Because see, Ed switched from healthier coping mechanisms like crying, eating sweets, creative outlets, and talking to people about his feelings to much more acceptably pirate means of coping with his feelings - violence in the form of raids and drugs (rhino horn, which thought people joke about it being an aphrodisiac, has a variety of believed medical uses in Vietnamese medicine, treating ailments including hangovers, fever, gout and potentially terminal illnesses, like cancer or stroke). Raids and drug use should be totally acceptable means of managing your feelings as a pirate, except that Ed is going too far with them, pushing the crew to the breaking point and beyond. They're raiding every day, they're not taking breaks, they're not having days off, they're chasing down ships as fast as they can take them down and now they're going to be throwing away loot. Izzy is realizing that actually he has not gotten the Blackbeard he wanted and things are not great. He's also lost at least two more toes.
He and Ed have an early exchange - Izzy looking sickly, skin sallow, what appears to be hair dye or make up trickling from his hairline, Ed prepping and snorting rhino horn like it's cocaine:
Izzy: "The crew are lookin' a tad worse for wear.” Ed: "Did everyone get cake?" Izzy: "Yeah, they got cake." Ed: "Well they're, they're welcome to have some rhino horn. Just ground up a fresh batch." (snorts rhino horn) "Oh fuck! You want some?" Izzy: "No, not right now, no." Ed: "Well then, get back to work ya fuckin' lightweight!" [cut to Izzy among the crew] Ed voiceover: "Can't do the job, someone else will."
Throughout this scene, Izzy looks increasingly distressed as Ed does drugs - he looks his most distressed during the voice over however, his jaw flexing, his eyes watery.
This is what appears to have shaken him the most - the idea that he's replaceable, that Ed can and would get rid of him in favor of someone else. It's obviously incredibly distressing to Izzy, in a way that I genuinely don't think the loss of his toes was. Izzy clearly values his relationship with Edward - while in season 1 he definitely wanted a promotion and liked the idea of authority, of being captain, the fact that he was swiftly mutinied and nearly murdered seemed to put a kabosh on his ambitions, and reoriented him to staying at Ed's side. We know that Izzy at least believes that loyalty is important - we know that he thinks he's acting from loyalty when he tries to make Ed watch as his boyfriend (in Izzy's words) is murdered.
Izzy values his position with Blackbeard. He serves Blackbeard, respects him, was honored to work for a legend. And while this is supposition, he seems to have considered himself and Edward as having a close, intimate relationship that did not require words or confessions or honest expression of feeling, this kind of bond where words aren't necessary, because they're tough, manly men who don't need to express their feelings.
But.
Then we get this line. Then we get, "can't do the job, someone else will." Seven words, and they shake Izzy to his core, make him finally start questioning his until then unquestioned belief in the ways of the world and his relationship with Edward. It shakes him enough that he actually breaks in front of the crew, in a scene that's incredibly funny, but also leads to them extending him some genuinely unearned compassion, as they question the healthiness of his relationship with Blackbeard - even as Izzy is finally questioning if he has a relationship with Blackbeard.
Following his breakdown, Izzy has the crew bring the treasure above deck, but doesn't go through with making them throw it overboard. Instead, he takes those new doubts and brings them to Ed, pushing for a conversation where he is clearly for the first time in their working relationship expressing his thoughts on said relationship in word form.
Izzy: "The crew are refusing to part with any treasure." Ed: "Why?" Izzy: "Because it's fuckin' treasure." Ed: "Not good enough. (stops toying with knife, slides it in Izzy's direction.) And that's another toe. Take your boot off." (stands from seated position, walks over to Izzy.) Izzy: (starts by looking down at the ground, then slowly raises gaze to Ed's face as he speaks.) "Who am I to you?" Ed: “...What?” Izzy: “We’ve worked together for years. (sniff) You know me better than anyone has ever known me, and I daresay the same is true for me about you.” (a musical beat plays. Izzy lowers his eyes from Ed’s face, looking in the middle distance.) Izzy: I have (several second long pause) love for you, Edward.” Ed: (starting as Izzy is speaking, right after the word love) “Oh, come on.” (walks away from Izzy, circling around him.) Izzy: I’m worried about you. We all are. The atmosphere on this ship is completely poisoned.” (pause) “But if we could all just maybe (pause, swallow, visibly struggling with words) talk it through.” (musical beat) Ed: (slowly looks up) “As a crew?” Izzy: (face falls subtly, taking on a starker look of upset)
The scene transitions away, but let’s really dig into all of this for a second, because this is crucial. This is Izzy going from matters between us are unspoken but profound to I have doubts and I am verbalizing my thoughts in the hope that they will be assuaged. Izzy is expressing aloud his thoughts on their relationship for the first time, because as Izzy puts it, he thought he knew Edward better than anyone. He thought he understood him better than anyone else alive. Now, we know that Izzy doesn’t understand Edward already - we’ve known that he doesn’t actually see the person Edward all along, but this was made especially clear in episode 6, where his voiceover notes that he is “starting to suspect that Edward has no intention of ending Stede Bonnet’s life”, at a point in time when Ivan and Fang are confident the plan is off and everyone else seems pretty clear there’s a co-captaining effect going on.
The point is that all this time, Izzy has been acting from a place of assuming he knows Edward best of anyone in the world, that he understands him, that he can follow what’s going on with him and that they are intimately bound together, in this deep and unspoken love for each other that doesn’t have to be said allowed, but only has to exist, unacknowledged but deeply felt.
But then Ed said that he could be replaced. Then Ed said that he could find someone else to do Izzy’s job.
And this introduced doubt into Izzy’s mind, for the first time. This is what made Izzy verbalize all these things - what made him ask who he is to Ed, what made him state that he has love for Ed, that he worries for Ed, that he and Ed understand each other better than anyone else… because now he has to say them aloud, because he has to be reassured that these things are true.
That he is someone important to Ed. That Ed has love for Izzy and knows that Izzy has love for Ed. That Ed understands Izzy, that Ed knows that Izzy understands Ed. For years, he has thought that he and Ed understood each other in this profound way, that they alone truly knew the other, and he has to question if that’s true.
He’s being vulnerable, in a way vaguely akin to the vulnerability Ed offered in episode 10, and it clearly doesn’t land. He wants reassurance that this deep and profound love and intimacy he was so sure was there, is real, and Ed can’t give him that reassurance because it’s not true. Not in the way Izzy was so sure it was. Not in the way he ruined Ed’s life to believe.
Izzy finally decides to put himself out there, and all that Ed gets out of it is the echo of Stede Bonnet, and it makes Izzy’s face fall like a rock. There’s the answer he didn’t want: the relationship he believed he had with Ed is not there, and Ed is still, utterly, truly, fixed in his feelings for Stede Bonnet.
(and like just to clarify, I really don’t feel bad for Izzy here - he doesn’t have the relationship he wants with Ed because he’s never tried to really understand Ed, or listen to him, and he isn’t what Ed wants in a partner, but, objectively, Izzy does make himself vulnerable here, and he’s shot down, because Ed just doesn’t return his feelings)
Which leads us into the continuing scene. Ed goes to confront the crew about the atmosphere of the ship being poisoned, which everyone denies at gun point, leading Ed to shoving the gun under his chin and having a little conversation with himself, unsettling everyone around.
Ed: “I know who we should ask, ol’ Blackbeard. Hello mate. You think the vibe on the ship is poisoned? I don’t know, Blackbeard. Maybe a little toxic sometimes. Maybe it’s a bit uncomfortable sometimes. You do make the crew a little bit uncomfortable sometimes. They think you’re crazy. Well, I’m not crazy. I don’t feel crazy. I feel pretty fucking good actually.” (the camera is focusing on the faces of all the crew as he gives this monologue, gun still cocked under his chin.) Izzy: “Fucking End!” (Screamed at Ed’s back) Ed: (slowly turns to Izzy.) Crew: (Fang looking shocked and saddened. Frenchie shakes his head very minutely, looking at Izzy.) Izzy: “The atmosphere on this ship is (word drawn out) fucked.” (working his jaw, looking down and to the side as he says this.) “Everyone knows why.” Ed: (nods once, sets his chin, walks forward.) “Well I don’t. Enlighten me.” Izzy: (smiling with mouth shut, suppressing a laugh. Shrugs.) Your feelings for Stede fuckin’ Bonnet.” Ed: (Nods as soon as Izzy says Stede’s name. Shoots him in the leg.) Izzy: (cries out in pain drops, clutching his knee.) Ed: “Frenchie.” Frenchie: “Yes?” Ed: “Congratulations, you are now first mate.” Frenchie: “Oh, no. I don’t, I don’t  think I’m qualified.” Ed: “‘course you are mate. You can start by cleaning up that mess.” (tilts head towards Izzy. Turns to rest of crew, onlooking.) “And the rest of you, you throw this shit overboard and get suited up.” (claps twice, turns away.) “We’ve got a record to break.” Izzy: (still groaning in pain.)
So that was a lot.
Izzy has realized, over the course of this episode, that his relationship with Ed is not what he thought it was, is not what he wants it to be, and that Ed is still and probably always will be, in love with Stede fuckin’ Bonnet. This is why Izzy decides to say what he believes to be true - that the atmosphere is fucked because of Ed’s feelings for Stede. It’s important that we know this is not actually true - while Ed being ghosted by Stede did start his spiral, Ed was able to stop that spiral with the help of community and reaching for healthy coping mechanisms. Ed spiraled again after Izzy intervened, insulting, threatening, and demeaning him as discussed in the recap, and the spiral isn’t about his romantic feelings - it’s about, as s2e3 The Innkeeper firmly establishes, his feeling fundamentally unloveable and monstrous. Throughout s2e1, Ed is clearly denying the crew days off and meaningful rest out of pursuit of as many raids as possible. He’s trying not to touch the ground, flying high both via drugs and adrenaline, and his exchange with Frenchie at the end of the impossible makes it clear he doesn’t want to stop.
It’s also very important, that throughout this entire thing, the only crew member Ed actually hurts is Izzy, who doesn’t actually object to losing his toes. Now, I’m on record for being one of the many people who think Izzy is actually glad that the toe scene happens - I don’t think he actually especially wanted to lose his toes, but, he was glad to get back the Blackbeard who would cut off toes, and I do think he felt there was a certain intimacy in being the only one experiencing violence. Izzy is a masochist and has previously expressed delight in being the subject of violence - was very happy to be choked by Ed in s1ep10 - so while this is not safe or sane, I do think it’s consensual, in the sense that Izzy thinks this is part of their mutual love, their unspoken but deep and crucially intimate togetherness that leads them to know each other on the deepest level.
And then Ed says he can be replaced. And then Ed makes it clear that even when Izzy is emotionally vulnerable, Ed’s heart is with Stede. And Izzy realizes, he doesn’t have that place with Edward that he thought he did. He doesn’t have that special relationship. This is not intimacy, for Ed. And Ed shooting him and turning away isn’t even the final nail in that door.
Because, in s2e2, Izzy is still alive. The crew has hidden him in the walls and are trying to preserve his life, even as Izzy screams for them to kill him and calls them cowards for not doing so. The crew is gathering medicine, preparing an amputation, figuring out what to do with Izzy to try and keep him alive, and Izzy wants them to kill him. (Quote: “Kill me you fucking cowards! Kill me -”)
I would say it’s because he’s realized the relationship he devoted his life too and considered sacred, the relationship he considers most valuable… is not that to the man he loves. Ed replaced him and pirate code says the first mate should kill him. The first mate (Frenchie) refuses to kill him. Frenchie is not much for that, and neither is JIm. Both of them, having experienced a better life and place of work when Stede was captain and Ed was their co-captain, are trying to preserve Izzy’s life the best they can. Jim especially clings to the memory of when life meant something on this ship, even Izzy’s life.
Which - this makes sense coming from Jim, and I think it’s why they chose Jim, because Jim wasn’t present for Izzy being captain or the mutiny. Jim has the least complicated relationship with Izzy aside from Fang, who is notably not present in any of the scenes to do with rescuing Izzy, despite having been clearly shocked and appalled that Izzy was shot.
Izzy, is not thrilled to be being kept alive, but the fact that Izzy is kept alive, means that Izzy has to process his feelings - and face Ed again, who, having shot Izzy, mourned and sobbed, has woken up, cleaned himself up, cleaned his space out, and decided to seek death.
From Izzy.
This, I think, is the second most crucial moment in Izzy’s arc and transition, because Izzy thought he was someone of incredible importance to Ed, and he also thought that he knew and understood Ed better than anyone, and that Ed crucially, understood him just as well. He thought that even without any emotional honesty or vulnerability, they knew each other more than anyone else possibly could.
He thinks that Ed knows him.
And Ed comes to him, and they have the following exchange:
Ed: “Morning.” Izzy: “My leg?” (looking down his body.) Ed: (laughing) “Yeah. Oh, no, that’s gone now. Up in Leg Heaven.” (sets the smelling salts down, turns to look down at Izzy.) Izzy: (looks up at Ed.) “Have you come to take the other one?” Ed: “I think one’s quite enough. I just popped down to say a proper goodbye.” (reaches behind him, draws gun. Izzy: (watches the gun, looks down from Ed’s face to gun and back as Ed cocks and loads it.) Ed: (looking at the gun, not Izzy.) “Had a dream about you last night.” (flips gun to offer the handle to Izzy.) “Take it.” Izzy: “Oh, fuck off. Fuck off. Fuck off.” (slaps at Ed’s hand, looking away from Ed.) Ed: “Hold it! Hold it.” (they are speaking over each other. Gets the gun in Izzy’s hand, directs it at Ed’s head. Looking at Izzy.) “I dreamt that ya killed me. Shot me right through the skull.” (moving the gun and Izzy’s hand, drawing it to his forehead, leaning closer. The camera moves between Ed’s face and Izzy’s.) Izzy: (smiles slowly then sneers.) “Good for you.” Ed: (blinks and nods slowly.) “It was good for me. It’s just what the doctor ordered.” (The camera moves from Ed’s face to Izzy’s showing him with that frown as Ed stands over him, leaving the gun in Izzy’s hand.) “Anyway, it wasn’t even like that.” (walks away from Izzy.) Izzy: (eyes tracking Ed as he walks away.) Ed: “Not in my dream.” (moves to stand at the foot of Izzy’s bed, back to Izzy.) “I was standing.” (inhales). “Just like this.” (Closes eyes. Spreads arms.) Izzy: (from his view, Ed is standing against the light, back open, arms spread. He blinks and raises the gun audibly.) Ed: (Swallows, holding his arms out.) Izzy: (smiles, sniffs audibly, dropping the smile as he clenches his teeth. Laughs harshly, mockingly, gun raised.) “Ohhhhh, ah, you scared, Eddie? Too scared - too scared to do it yourself? Ay.” (laughs) “Go on, clean up your own fucking mess. I’m not doin’ it. I’ve been doin’ it all my fucking life.” Ed: (looks down, disappointed. blinks.) Izzy: Fuck off. Ed: (nods, swallows.) “Farewell, old chum.” (whispered. He walks up the stairs and away from Izzy.) Izzy: (watches, shaking, nodding slowly himself, breath hitching.) Ed: (reaches the top of the stairs. A gunshot sounds. A creak. Ed lowers his eyes, looking down at something off camera. Nods. Exhales.) “I loved you” (a pause) “best I could.” The scene transitions from there, and the next we see of Ed, he is initiating plan two of suicide attempts: steering the ship into a storm and goading the ship to kill him or die with him.
But Ed’s deal is so many more posts from here. No, we’re focused on Izzy for the moment, so what did this whole exchange mean for him?
First, the thought that Ed had come to do more damage. That Ed was there for Izzy, that this was about Izzy. But it’s not. Ed has had enough of that. He notably does not apologize. Izzy notably does not seem to expect one. There is history here, and the last time they were in positions like this, the camera angle was flipped - Ed at Izzy’s right, a hand covering Izzy’s mouth, making him eat his toe and the idea that things could go as they had been, that the Blackbeard Izzy had schemed and tried to have a man killed over was back. This time, Ed is at Izzy’s left, with a gun, and he doesn’t touch Izzy except to hand over the gun.
This is where it’s so important that Izzy believed he and Ed knew each other best of all. Because in episode one, Izzy was getting worried for Ed, but it’s in episode 2, in this moment, as Ed hands him a gun, that he realizes Ed wants to die. And it’s in this moment that he realizes that Ed fully believes Izzy could. That Ed has taken these actions believing that they would lead Izzy to kill him. That Ed wants to commit suicide via Izzy, that he thinks killing Ed is something that Izzy wants, could want, could do.
This is Izzy, realizing that he and Ed don’t understand each other nearly as well as he thought. This is Izzy, realizing that Ed looks at him and sees a man who could and would kill him, when Izzy thinks that he couldn’t ever do that. This is Izzy, having the true final death knell on that relationship he believed they had, the intimacy he believed they had, the lack of a need for words. He thought all this time that he knew Ed best and that Ed knew him, and he doesn’t want to kill Ed - and he’s also hurt and angry and upset to know Ed genuinely thought he would. That Ed would come to him for this, because Izzy doesn’t think he could kill Ed, but Ed thinks he could.
In his mind, Ed should know that Izzy could never kill him, should trust him, should know without having to be told that it would never happen, but here’s Ed in the flesh, asking him to kill him.
It’s over, everything he thought was there.
And Ed? Ed did care about Izzy, in his own way, but every overture he made was denied, shot down, Izzy not interested in the bird guy, the ship, the clouds and how they contribute to a plan, the drugs, and like, Izzy is allowed to not be interested in any of those things - but these are the things Ed was interested in. These are the ways Ed tried to connect most recently, and Izzy shot them all down. To Izzy, there was a deep and intimate connection in spite of all of that. To Ed, every way he could connect with Izzy was shot down. He loved him the best he could, which wasn’t a way that could provide either of them what they wanted. Izzy had love for Ed, but that love could not be fruitful or nurturing to either of them, because it was unspoken and therefore ripe for misunderstanding.
Izzy stews down there in the ship, in his own thoughts, while Ed steers the ship into a storm and makes his last effort to die, to have it all end - to push the crew to killing him, or dying with him. And then he ties his leg up, makes his way above deck, shoots Ed in the arm to keep him from killing them all, and tries to kill himself instead, staring at Ed as he tries to shoot himself with the gun Ed wanted Izzy to kill him with. Despite the gun being aimed for the temple, he fails and falls back, leaving himself staring up as it rains on him, hiding any tears. Fang brings Ed down, and the crew gather together, Fang supporting Izzy’s weight, as Jim lifts a cannonball with a scream and prepares to bring it down on Ed’s head. Izzy watches without interfering.
EDIT: ADDED THIS SECTION:
A quick addendum: even though I watched episode 2 so many times, I didn't realize that Izzy tried to kill himself after Ed left the room! The gunshot that Ed hears is in fact Izzy trying and failing to shoot himself right then and there, in that moment that Ed departs. Izzy's forehead was so wet and the background of him falling back and water splashing was such that I truly thought that took place in the rain, and that he tried to shoot himself after shooting Ed. Thanks to @glamaphonic for letting me know. This does leave me even more certain that Izzy is motivated to do this because he has finally understood both that Edward wants to die, and that he and Edward never understood each other as well as he thought, which brings the last years of his life into question. He tried to kill himself, failed, and came up to stop Ed from bringing down the ship. It's not just that Izzy stews down there - as Ed departs, leaving Izzy behind, Izzy takes the shot. He tries and fails to kill himself, and wakes and climbs the steps to take the shot at Ed he couldn't before.
The next time we see Izzy is s1e3, The Innkeeper, when Stede crosses over to the Revenge and finds the crew amidst the wreckage. He’s eating a raw bird with the rest of the crew, and then is brought aboard the Red Flag. As Stede asks the crew about Ed’s location, Izzy watches him. He’s the only one not eating soup, hands tucked over his chest.
As Stede starts asking questions - dangerous questions for Izzy and the former crew of the Revenge - he walks over with a crutch.
Izzy: “Bonnet. Good to see you.” Stede: “Piss off, Izzy. I don’t wanna hear from you.”
Stede talks to the rest of the crew, as Izzy grimaces. Stede pays him no attention. The next time Izzy speaks up: Stede: “What about my painting? Why is it all stabbed up?” Izzy: (looking up through his hair, smiling.) “That was me.” Stede: (sighs and walks away without response.) Izzy: (blinks slowly, looking dismayed. We see him start to turn his head in Stede’s direction.)
Well, that seemed like someone trying to pick a fight, and disappointed he didn’t get one, too me. In Izzy’s mind, Stede is his romantic rival, the man Ed loves where he didn’t love Izzy, and, currently, also a threat, because if he keeps asking questions and reveals the mutiny, they’ll all be killed.
But Stede is one more thing. Stede is another dagger in Izzy’s heart, as we continue transcribing:
Izzy: “Don’t cry Bonnet. We just redecorated.” (has clearly been following Stede.) Stede: “I don’t mind, actually. I think the knives really help bring the place together.” (calmly stated before he walks away to look at the rest of the furniture.) Izzy: (drops his head, looking away as though trying to gather words.) Stede: (turns to look at Izzy.) “What’d you do with him? I know he wouldn’t have left by choice.” Izzy: (sniffles) I know you think you understand him. Stede: (interrupting) “He was either gonna watch the world burn or die trying, so which was it?” (leaning forward despite the considerable distance, still calm.) Izzy: (swallows, dips head. Starts moving forward, gritting teeth through words.) “Alright Bonnet. Have it your own way.” (stalking forward to Stede on his crutch.) “He went mad. He tortured the crew. He took my fuckin’ leg ‘cause I dared to mention your fuckin’ name.” (emphasis on the curses, slams fist when he says your name.) Stede: (in drawn breath, turns away) Izzy: “He was a wild dog, and we dealt with him like one.” Stede: “You sent him to Doggy Heaven.” Izzy: (stares in silence, head shaking. Flashes back to Ed laying in the rain, breathing out “Finally,” and laughing as Jim brings a cannonball down on him as Izzy watches. Stares. Turns to look away from Stede, face twisting. Shakes his head. Shuts his eyes. Breathes the word:) “No.” Stede: (turns to look back at him.) Izzy: “I could never do that.” (looks away, still not looking Stede in the face). “We deserved him on a beach (sniffles) left nature to do the rest. More than he would have done for us.” Stede: (turns away, breathing out.) Izzy: (continuing) “You and me did this to him. And we cannot let this crew suffer anymore for our mistakes.” Stede: (turns to look at Izzy) “Why would they suffer?” Izzy: “If your captain senses mutiny, she’ll kill us all. That’s pirate code.” Stede: (camera lingers on his face as he swallows.)
Doggy Heaven has a heavy meaning in this series, considering that Ed was supposed to send Stede to Doggy Heaven, and couldn’t because of his love for Stede. Ed couldn’t bring himself to kill Stede, but here is Stede, who Izzy views as a romantic rival, guessing that Izzy could kill Ed. Acknowledging that he, like Ed, believes that Izzy could kill Ed. Izzy, who thinks he couldn’t and wouldn’t and has love for Ed, and sees himself as loyal.
But Izzy did stand back as Ed was killed, and that’s why he reaches for dehumanizing language to defend the action - he calls Ed a wild dog and that they dealt with him like one.
(It’s the first time in the show that a white character makes a racist remark without immediate consequences. Before anyway says otherwise, yes it is always racist for white people to dehumanize a man of color. It is always racist to say a person of color is or was an animal or liken them to being an animal. He could have said that Ed was a danger to the crew in any number of ways but he reached for likening him to a creature less than human and yeah that’s a racist thing to do. I believe the show did not follow through with consequences for this action because it’s clear that Izzy is STILL trying to pick a fight with Stede.)
The commonality in all of these scenes with Stede are twofold. One, Izzy is trying to distract Stede from the truth of the mutiny and what the crew did (and the fact that Ed is still aboard the Revenge, left for dead [or as Izzy put it, for nature to do the rest]). The second is that Izzy is trying and failing to pick a fight - failing, because Stede won’t take him up on it. At all. Stede is not engaging with Izzy at this point outside of the practical matter of seeking information, and that’s all he has to spare for Izzy - he’s already told him to piss off once, and that’s as much energy as he spends on it, but Izzy comes at Stede antagonistically more than once - three times, actually, and I think it’s because if he has a fight with Stede, and Stede says all the things he’s thinking, about how awful Izzy is, how he’s a traitor, how could he have hurt Ed, any of those things, then Izzy can fight about it, and he can justify it to himself, and he can ignore the thought from now on, because it’s the same thought that Stede fuckin’ Bonnet is having, and those thoughts are worthless.
But Stede doesn’t give him that. Stede doesn’t give him a fight at all. Stede walks away from Izzy again and again and again and in doing so does not grant Izzy an out, an out that can ONLY come from Stede, because no one else is going to disagree with the mutiny.
Stede is the only one who could give him that fight, and Stede refuses. And Izzy continues to have to sit with his own thoughts and justifications and they clearly aren’t enough for him, because he’s continuing to push.
Izzy is also trying to protect himself and the crew, here. It’s very much about that. He is trying to keep himself and them from dying by being caught out for mutiny, but I think it’s interesting that it’s only here that he tries to take accountability for what he said and did to Ed, and it’s in service of avoiding what he’s actually done. Izzy says that he and Stede did this to Ed - this that resulted in, as he says, Ed going mad and torturing the crew and having to be mutinied and abandoned on the beach. Izzy needs Stede to feel equally responsible - so that Stede will help protect the crew, but also because I think Izzy is feeling guilty and has been, because he could watch Ed die, and he could hurt Ed, and he didn’t think of himself as that person, but he is and was, and thinking that he caused all of this himself is too much. Better to give some of it to Stede, and help the crew out as well as himself.
He had love for Ed, in his own way, and he thought they understood each other and had a partnership, but here’s Stede fuckin’ Bonnet, who only knew Ed for a matter of weeks, and understood him better than Izzy did and wouldn’t do the thing that Izzy did, and this is the final nail for Izzy, the thing he’s struggling with in this whole revelation that Ed didn’t have any romantic love for him, that there was no special intimate romance between them that didn’t need to be said or expressed or acknowledged with words or vulnerability to exist, because Stede takes one look at the situation and can summarize what happened. Stede knew that Ed would want to die, because you can’t actually burn the world down. You can say “burn the world or die trying”, but the only end result is dying trying.
And Izzy, I genuinely don’t think, understood that Ed wanted to die. Not until Ed offered him the gun. Not until Ed spelled it out. Izzy knew that Ed was fucked up over his feelings, but I don’t think he understood where they were leading.
But here’s Stede, and he did, and Izzy can’t take that, which is why once the truth is out and the mutineers are locked in the brig awaiting probable execution, Izzy tries to pick a fight one more time, even now that there’s nothing to distract Stede from.
Izzy: (hears footsteps and turns his head.) Stede: (comes to the brig, staring through the bars at Izzy, then the rest of the crew.) Izzy: (smiles) “Go on Bonnet, give me your worst.” Crew: (looks up at Stede slowly.) Stede: (Looks at all of them, silent and not visibly angry, somber. Tilts his head down, eyes closed. Opens his eyes, shoves against the bars and turns and walks away without a word.) Izzy: (Drops the smile. Stares forward into the distance, eyes visibly wet with tears, blinks several times).
So, clearly trying for a fight, wanting one, and continually being denied. Izzy is almost certainly grieving Ed, the relationship he thought they had, and also his leg, and Stede is the only other person here who would even possibly mourn Ed too, and Stede refuses to give him any response. Even when goaded, even knowing the truth, he has nothing to say to him. The next time Stede and Izzy are in the same room, Stede has concocted an escape plan, and doesn’t look at or speak to Izzy at all as he gives instructions and organizes the escape.
And when they have made it back to their ship, when they’re getting the wheel and rigging set for escape, they have a final conversation:
Izzy: (walks up behind Stede, who is watching the Red Flag.) “I just wanted to thank you for-” Stede: (walks away without letting him finish.) Izzy: (looks down, is left standing alone as live moves on the ship.)
Over the course of these three episodes, Izzy’s plot is realizing that he was fundamentally wrong about his relationship with Ed, his understanding of Ed as a person, and the depths of Ed’s feelings and despair. I think he’s also realizing that he was wrong about his relationship with Stede - he saw Stede as a romantic rival, and someone who hated him as much as he hates Stede, but given the opportunity to antagonize Izzy again and again, Stede refuses, because he doesn’t care about Izzy nearly enough.
Izzy has misunderstood the nature of his relationship as it were with both of these men, who are, and always were, predominantly, chiefly, and only, interested in each other.

Kat's "I could fix her" Arcane season 2 post Part 1:
Yeah we're skipping straight past the recap/reflections on what this show actually was into my 'just let me into the writers room' post because I'm currently tormented by, ironically, what could have been
What's funny is the characters didn't even end up doomed by the narrative because of their League of Legends fates!! They killed a whole bunch of champions! They just Did All That anyway.
As I was saying in previous posts, the season was overstuffed. I genuinely liked some of the music video portions lol, but there was just so much going on.
I still would put Mel in a Magic Coma for the entire season and spin out her Black Rose plot for a third season or new spinoff (it seems like there will be one anyway). Her storyline as is felt like an afterthought and wasn't fully explained. Am I supposed to know the Black Rose lady? I don't. Being crammed in does her a disservice; I'd rather give her room to breathe. This would create a stronger absent mother/absent daughter bond between Ambessa and Caitlyn, and Caitlyn could see Ambessa claiming to do things for her daughter's sake even though it's obviously stuff Mel would never approve of, and that could force Caitlyn to reflect on how her mother wouldn't approve of the actions she's taking allegedly for her sake. That could sell Caitlyn's immediately re-siding with Vi better.
This may be a very hot take, but I didn't really like the werewolf Vander plotline. My understanding is he's a LoL champion, but he felt particularly cartoonish even in an increasingly cartoonish season, and just kept retreading the same ground. Vander's dead. :( He's alive! :) He's dead again. :( Obviously the cycles are part of the point, and he represents how Vander's death is this monstrous always dying never at rest force between the sisters tying them together and strangling them at the same time, but I'd cut it. Have Vi seek Jinx out after the prison break because she can't believe her sister did that, have Jinx admit she only did it to save one girl, and they reflect on how Vander also did stuff just for kids versus ideals. Make Vi reflect on how her little jaunt with Jayce killed a kid, and here Jinx is saving one, and people are complicated. Still not clear on how Jinx has no negative effects from Shimmer, so give her a few and that can be their new reason for going to Viktor's commune. Ambessa can hear about his new weird magitech without needing a werewolf to pique her interest.
Obviously this raises of the question of what Vi and Jinx are doing in the finale, and while I don't think every character needs a big damn fight scene, they can back up Caitlyn versus Ambessa since Mel won't be there, which also forces them to deal with the Vi-Caitlyn-Jinx tension. IDK if there's a way to have Jinx ambiguously blow herself up in that scenario but here's a thought, maybe the most prominently disabled characters don't all need to die and/or commit suicide? More on that later. Ambessa is subdued, not dead, though, so she and Mel can talk later.
Finally (for this post) I already expressed my frustration that the key class conflict so present in the first season and first half of the second gets mostly shoved under the rug because there's a new enemy to fight. Yes, that's often used as a distraction irl, but that's not a *good* thing. Sevika's sitting at the councilor's table at the end of the show. Who negotiated that? Caitlyn? If we absolutely must go the direction of a big damn final battle, I want to see that conversation and all of the pain and distrust that must've come up during it.
That's the kid gloves version. If I was being aggressive - and I would be - I'd have the fighting totally destroy Piltover with arcane corruption, and now everyone from Piltover has to live in the Undercity/Zaun as refugees. Forget Sevika sitting down at the Piltover table as the new councilors glare at her. Now the Piltover councilors are having to sit awkwardly down at a table with Sevika and Ekko's number 2. (Or Ekko. What is he doing besides sitting sadly on that roof. Is he involved in governance. Is his tree ok.) Piltover suffocated Zaun for years with their industrial runoff. Now they're choking to death on their own magical industrial waste, and they're going to have to learn to live like everybody else.
I am still parsing the whole Viktor, Jayce, and disability thing since as you know that's one of the elements that fascinates me most about this show (the new improved crunchy ableism even as they genuinely try to explore something interesting) so I will be typing a separate post about that, probably thinking through it as I write. Stay tuned.

My Problem with Good Omens Season 2
For those unfamiliar with my fandom experiences: I fell in love with Good Omens in the summer of 2019, a few months after Season 1 came out.  I wrote a bunch of fanfic, had lots of fun interacting with fellow fans on Tumblr, and made some great one-on-one online friendships through the fandom.  It was a great couple of years.
I was very excited for Season 2 when it was announced.  But between fandom overexposure, me picking up a new fandom interest, and losing touch with said friends from GO fandom…my excitement fell away, until I barely registered when S2 dropped in July 2023.
To this day, I still have not finished S2 in full.  I’ve gotten through a couple episodes, but mostly it’s been me watching clips on Youtube, and learning through Tumblr osmosis what happened.  And boy, was I big mad and big disappointed with how the season went.
But KitCat, you say, surely you are but a butthurt fan, because your ship became canon in a painful way!  You are but upset about the Final Fifteen!  The doomed kiss was what has your knickers in a twist!  Such a silly thing to be disappointed about!
But it isn’t that.  The Final Fifteen is bad, yes, but it’s not just because it’s tragic and upsetting.  And it’s not just because it’s poorly written (and it is, don’t get me wrong, more on that later).  But no, the Final Fifteen isn’t why I’m disappointed.
The Final Fifteen is the outcome of the problem.  To find the root of the problem, we have to go back.  Way, way back.  Back to the beginning.  To Before the Beginning, even.
Because that’s what I’m here to talk about: the problem with Season 2, the whole root of the problem, is the Before the Beginning sequence.
To recap: Before the Beginning takes place out in the universe, moments before it’s started up.  Angel!Crowley has to prime the engine, but he can’t do that and hold up the scroll at the same time.  (Idk why he can’t just make the scroll levitate next to him, since he has his instruction manual book floating next to him literally 20 seconds later, but eh, that’s a minor nitpick.)  He calls out to a passing angel for assistance, and GUESS WHO HAPPENED TO BE THE ANGEL PASSING BY.  THAT’S RIGHT, BABY MICHAEL SHEEN, READY TO INVENT THE FIRST CRUSH ON FLOPPY-HAIRED DAVID TENNANT.
The scene goes on, Aziraphale holds the scroll up so Angel!Crowley can crank the engine, he says “Let there be light”, has some neurodivergent wiggling about the new nebula, Aziraphale tells him it’ll be over in 6000 years, Angel!Crowley wants to complain to God about the planned short runtime of the universe, blah blah blah.  But the damage to their characters is already done.  (More to Aziraphale’s character than Crowley’s, but I think it does affect them both, because it’s about their relationship as a whole.)
In Season 1, their first meeting in Eden was a stroke of ineffable fate.  Heaven had to send one angel to Earth to guard Eden, and Hell had to send one demon to “make some trouble.”  And I’ve always loved the fact that either side could have chosen literally anyone.  What if Gabriel or Michael were guarding Eden?  Or, could you imagine if Hastur or Ligur were sent to “make some trouble”, and what might’ve befallen the first humans then?  Maybe Eve or Adam would’ve been killed.  Maybe they would’ve died of exposure or wild animals, without a flaming sword to help them after their banishment.  But instead, Hell sent a crafty and curious and sometimes-kindhearted demon, who simply tempted Eve to eat from the forbidden apple tree.  And Heaven sent the softhearted, generous angel, who gave them a tool for warmth and protection when they were sent into the wilderness.  Aziraphale and Crowley gave rise to humanity together, simply by being their wonderful selves.
And humanity aside, can you imagine how that meeting on the Garden’s wall would’ve gone, if it were Gabriel or Michael, and Hastur or Ligur?  It could’ve very easily become a game of cat-and-mouse, holy smiting edition.  But instead, Aziraphale and Crowley—two strangers, remember!  All they know is they’re on opposite sides, and that they’re each lonely and unsure on this strange new planet—talk casually to each other.  They laugh together for a moment.  And when the first rains start, Aziraphale—without hesitation—shelters this complete stranger of an Enemy under his wing.  Like…you don’t get any more magical of a meeting than that???
This chance meeting of perfect strangers who happen to be kindred spirits, perfectly sets the tone for the rest of their friendship throughout time.  Yes, they happen to be soulmates, but they don’t know that yet!  It takes literal thousands of years for them to get to know each other, and build up their mutual trust and physical/emotional safety with each other.  Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship!  And that’s what makes it so strong, even in the face of Armageddon!
The whole time, Aziraphale’s purpose on Earth is clear: 1. follow Heaven’s instructions, completing his assigned blessings and miracles; 2. spread general Good among the humans; 3. enjoy himself; and 4. spend time with Crowley.  (The first two are what Heaven expects of him; the latter two are what he decided to do on his own.)  He might have vague inklings that Crowley was once an angel, but it doesn’t appear to be his entire driving force behind seeking Crowley out.  He only briefly mentions at the bandstand breakup scene that “you were an angel once”, but this was only a direct response to something Crowley says (refuting the notion that Crowley is “unforgivable” because he’s a demon).  It’s otherwise never mentioned again.
Not only that, but in Season 1, though we got several glimpses into their shared history and their dealings with humanity behind the scenes, we still get the sense that there’s so much more to their individual stories.  How did Aziraphale first decide to try eating food?  When did Crowley get his car?  What was so horrible for him in the fourteenth century?  We can fill in those blanks however we want, and while answers are nice, they don’t all need to have answers provided in canon.  It makes the story feel bigger, y’know?
But then Season 2 comes out.  And oh, boy.
Now, their first meeting is no longer in Eden, as humanity was first starting out.  Now, it takes place untold eons beforehand, when Crowley was still an angel.  Now their relationship’s foundation has nothing to do with their shared love of humanity, because it starts before Crowley had ever even heard of Earth.
Now, their meeting in Eden is no longer miraculous.  I know there’s still some debate among the fandom of how much Crowley remembers of his time as an angel, but since he tells Aziraphale in Job’s home that “the angel you knew is not me”, it’s fair to say that he at least remembers they met as angels.  So while maybe they’re first realizing that they’re on opposite sides now, and are trying to gauge how the other will treat them as an Enemy, they are at least somewhat familiar.  The tension of a random angel and demon meeting is gone, because these two know each other!  They were friendly beforehand!
And the wing-sheltering thing…don’t get me started.  That was a random act of kindness from an angel, who still wants to do Good by protecting a demon, and doesn’t that say everything about who Aziraphale is?  While it’s sweet to see a parallel of Angel!Crowley protecting Aziraphale from some crashing stars, it doesn’t hold nearly the same weight.  They’re both angels, working together!  They’re already friendly!  Why the fuck wouldn’t Angel!Crowley protect Aziraphale then?  And by showing this S2 wing-sheltering…it cheapens the S1 wing-sheltering, because Aziraphale is just “returning the favor”, and protecting a former angel who he already knew and had a crush on.  It’s no longer completely altruistic, and trusting someone he could easily not trust; it’s paying a debt, and hoping he’s still the same angel in there.
But the biggest storytelling crime in all this isn’t confined to one particular scene.  It completely colors their entire relationship, from Eden onward.  In S1, all the scenes throughout history, and in the present day with the Armageddon plot, is Aziraphale slowly letting his guard down to this demon he doesn’t know, and realizing they have more in common with their mutual kindness and love of humanity than they do with the rest of Heaven and Hell.  The only question is, is that enough to throw in with Crowley completely, to stop Armageddon?  He can either stick with Crowley and Earth, or stick with Heaven; he tries to have it both ways, but eventually he has to choose.  And we all know how he chose :)  But during that whole time, he’s motivated by kindness for a stranger, and escaping his loneliness, and seeking emotional intimacy with this demon who’s becoming his friend.
But Season 2’s Before the Beginning sequence changes all of that.  No longer is Aziraphale simply trying to connect with this new friend; now, Crowley is an old friend, and the first time they met was as angels, and he remembers how happy Crowley was.  And now on Earth, Crowley isn’t happy.  He’s grumpy, and sarcastic, and bitter, and jaded.  He’s traumatized.  And Aziraphale remembers that happy, innocent angel who made the nebula, and he desperately wants him to go back to being that happy.
So, no longer is Aziraphale simply becoming friends with a demon, and trying to balance Heaven vs humanity and Crowley.  Now, his relationship with Crowley is entirely motivated by changing Crowley back into an angel.  He doesn’t see Crowley’s flashes of kindness as something strange for a demon; they’re glimmers of hope that he is still an angel underneath all the bitterness, maybe he can be reinstated if I work hard enough.  He’s not just lonely, and falling in love with Crowley; he’s trying to change Crowley to how he was before.
It leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth.  If I take all of S1-2 as a full canon now, I can’t look back on the moments of sweetness and friendship and connection between Aziraphale and Crowley, without that horrible gnawing thought in my head that Aziraphale remembers Crowley as an angel, that’s what he’s thinking about when he smiles at Crowley like that.  It’s…disgusting?  It’s gross?  I hate it.  I hate what sort of character this turns Aziraphale into.  Not just S2 Aziraphale, but even S1 Aziraphale.  It’s not the same character I fell in love with onscreen, when I first watched S1 in 2019.  Same wardrobe, same platinum blond hair, same Michael Microexpression Sheen portraying him.  But it’s a far crueler and more cynical view this angel now has, to want to change his traumatized friend into the previous, un-traumatized version of himself, instead of accepting and loving his friend for who he is now, trauma and bitterness and all.
All of S2’s flashbacks play into building up this motivation for Aziraphale.  The Job flashback directly addresses it, where Aziraphale confronts Crowley with “I know the angel you were!”  And beyond that, it deals with Crowley not being as cruel as he pretends to be, by not hurting Job’s goats or children.  Meanwhile, the Edinburgh flashback shows Crowley being kind by saving Elspeth’s life, and the 1941 flashback has Aziraphale ending it with “you could have walked away, and you would have done, if you were truly as evil as you like to paint yourself.”  All of which could add up to simply adding more backstory to A&C trusting each other over time…but taken with the Before the Beginning sequence, it also serves to build up Aziraphale’s belief of Crowley’s hidden angel-ness being confirmed over and over.
Which brings us to the Final Fifteen.  Metatron makes Aziraphale the surprise offer to become Supreme Archangel, and brings up his close relationship with Crowley, sweetening the deal (and also implicitly threatening them) by offering the chance for Crowley to become reinstated as an angel, and working for Heaven again under Aziraphale.  And given the Before the Beginning flashback, which set up Aziraphale’s desire to make Crowley an angel again so he can be happy…taken together with every flashback and present-day scene that shows Aziraphale melting under Crowley’s kindness, cementing his belief that Crowley can be an angel again…is it any wonder he jumps at this offer, and excitedly tells Crowley about it?
I think a lot of us were so shocked and upset about the breakup and the heartbreaking kiss in the Final Fifteen, that it distracted us from looking at Aziraphale’s motivations before the kiss.  At least, that’s what happened when I first watched it.  But looking back on it now, before I ever saw the kiss (although I had heard it was going to happen in a breaking-up way), I was still as confused as Crowley when I heard Aziraphale say all excited “He said I could appoint you to be an angel!  You can come back!  To Heaven!  And…and everything.  Like the old times.  Only even nicer!”
Like.  What.  Didn’t Aziraphale already have this character development last season?  Where he learned that Heaven doesn’t give a shit about Earth or humanity?  Where he told Heaven that “I have no intention of fighting in any war!”  Where he stood up to the Archangel Fucking Gabriel on the tarmac?  Where Crowley told him “you don’t have a side anymore, we’re on our own side”, and then went to Hell in Crowley’s place to save his life????
But here he is, suddenly proclaiming that Heaven is the good guys, the side of truth and light????  Like…what?  What?  I cringe so hard, because it’s such poor writing.
My biggest gripe though, is what I mentioned about Aziraphale’s motivations in S1 being tainted.  I could ignore a bad S2 (and I do, for the most part).  But tarnishing S1, the season I fell in love with?  That feels so much worse.  That’s what crosses the line for me.
So that’s why I have erased Season 2 from my own personal Book of Life (which is also another dumb plot device imo, because they had to come up with some kind of personal stakes of what would happen if Aziraphale was caught sheltering amnesiac!Gabriel, so Crowley would agree to help him and keep it secret).  It’s also why I’m not very enthusiastic about what S3 has in store, because it will be all about undoing the damage done to Aziraphale’s character arc, and salvaging his and Crowley’s now-broken relationship.  The fact that it all has to happen in 90min is also bad, but I felt this way back when it was still going to be 6 full episodes.  I’m not at all looking forward to it.
Tl;dr: Season 2 is bad, and damaged a lot of Season 1 retroactively, by making Aziraphale and Crowley meet as angels before Earth.  It takes the magic and humanity-helping foundations out of their first meeting in Eden, and changes Aziraphale’s motivations from here’s-a-stranger-who-makes-me-feel-less-alone, to I-can-fix-him-by-making-him-good-again.  It’s gross, and I hate it.

The RoTWD Wiki has been updated!
Recently, we put in some work on the wiki page for our fanfic, Realm of The Walking Dead. Now, the main page has a lot more detail and links to other pages that should be useful for newcomers and fans of the fanfic. As RoTWD makes several adjustments and ret-cons to the original story of Telltale's TWD, we added a small segment still in the works, explaining most of what's been changed in the canon script. Most changes include more characters being alive, and explaining how/why they may have survived, or died. Some characters have ambiguous fates, as well. Many beloved characters like Clementine, Kenny, and other familiar faces from Season 2, 3 and 4 make a return here, so make sure to read carefully to see what they've gone through. The Season 1 page also has been overhauled, and now includes full chapter recaps for Chapters 1, 2 and 3 so far. If you're a beginner and are interested in reading the fanfic, or simply want to know more details about the story, then check out the wiki! Feedback or questions (and asks) are always welcome.

Remember that scene from episode 7, when Aemond tries to approach Jace on Driftmark, looking like he is about to offer his condolences but at the same time knows he shouldn't because even Jace can't acknowledge his real father? And Jace looks somewhat annoyed and Aemond leaves, then Jace glances at Aegon who is already in his cups and doesn't even notice him? There were no scenes like that in season 2. Short but meaningful, the scenes that reveal so much about the characters involved. We have Aemond who even after being mocked by his nephews still can sympathise with them in a way and the two (Aemond/Jace) can give us a 'what if' moment that creates the ultimate fallout more tragic. Then we have Jace who obviously is interested more in Aegon as a ringleader, an older boy he looks up to, and yet, it's Aemond, the boy he mocks for not having a dragon, the one who approaches him. These kind of scenes are important for the character building and also for making a stronger emotional impact on the audience when it comes to the fate of the mentioned characters. S2 had none of this and destroyed and undid whatever s1 built character and story-wise. Aemond's and Alicent's characters suffered the most, no doubt, but it was bad in general.
Also, in the balcony scene it's obvious how helaena and aemond have a great chemistry and it just made me even more mad because they had so little screentime together in both seasons. Same goes for Aegond. It's criminal they had zero good scenes , save for that one in e6 that is just used to not so subtly remind us that Aemond is a sadist. Also, why wouldn't Aemond just finish Aegon off because as long as he lives, Aemond is not safe? The answer: in the book he obviously didn't try to kill him at RR and therefore wouldn't want to kill him in the aftermath either, but these idiots just needed their shitty change to all of the sudden make Aemond a one dimensional villain, make Aegon as pitiful as possible and to show how terrible and dysfunctional the greens are as a family. However, they couldn't just kill Aegon off so early and that's why they attempted to fix their stupid plothole with that scene when Aemond threatens him. Like, what?? I'm supposed to believe that was enough for Aegon to shut up for weeks and then just leave? Nah. There were bunch of similar idiocies through the whole season and I'm sure that something seriously went wrong between s1 and 2 because the drop in quality is jarring. I'm not saying s1 was that great, but this one was abysmal. Probably Miguel leaving was one of the main reasons, but whatever it was, this season will remain a great example of what not to do when you make a TV show. I just feel sorry for the lost potential and also for the people who are planning to watch s3 because, unless you're a die hard tb stan with zero critical thinking skills, I can't see the appeal.
Ugh, I hope this rant makes sense 😅
Hello, and thank you for the ask!
You're making a very good point. Season 1 was by no means perfect; but there was at least some if not love then genuine investment in the story and the characters from the showrunners - one could feel that at least occasionally. I guess it really came from Sapochnik's end because Condal clearly couldn't care less. The show used to have a soul - and now it feels empty. And, as it has been proven time and time again through the entirety of cinematic history, it is virtually impossible to create a truly good film or TV show if you don't give a damn about its essence.
I saw some people calling season 2 "a trailer for season 3" - because of how underwhelming and lacking in substance it turned out to be, I assume. To me it feels like something in between a trailer for the things to come and a recap of an actual season that was filmed but not shown to us for some reason. Pretty much everything feels superficial - even the dragged out scenes supposedly added for symbolism purposes or whatnot. The relationships between the characters are underdeveloped at best, destroyed at most (for example, chemistry between Green siblings' actors is utterly wasted indeed); some plot points make no sense; quite a few characters seem to have got a personality transplant in between the seasons.
Actually, I can understand why people, even TG fans would still be willing to watch season 3 (some for Aegon and Larys storyline, some for Alysmond - whatever form it takes, some for other reasons which could be many). As for me though - at the risk of sounding too dramatic - I had too much heart poured into this show and got hurt too badly by what it has become to even think of continuing to watch it without feeling sick. At least, for now.

bringing back the white hair theory because I just thought of something.
to recap, we have qiao ling and lu guang developing white hair, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ single white hair strand after li tianxi's death
Tumblr media
^ timeloop trauma guy (we don't actually know if his hair is just naturally like that or if it's related to the dives)
so I was thinking about the S1 basketball scene and how trusting cheng xiaoshi is of lu guang in that scene when: 1) this should have been "the first time they met"; 2) cheng xiaoshi has never made a friend outside of qiao ling for years. and suddenly he (super duper) trusts the new kid he randomly invites to play basketball with that he'd wax poetic about it?
and it's not as if we haven't seen cheng xiaoshi with white hair before, because he did have white hair in the break video. the music video that's specifically about fighting fate, reversing time, etc etc. now it could be a stylistic choice, or an error... but I don't think that's something you can just color mistakenly. especially in a video where the contrast between the colors black and white is the central theme. they even animated it! no way nobody caught such a "mistake"
Tumblr media
so. what are the odds that lu guang wasn't the only one diving in the basketball scene and we see cheng xiaoshi dive there in season 3? something something flipping hourglass metaphor
anyway, bonus crack theory time. it's probably not the case bc I lean more towards the theory that xia fei has a conection with the mystery newspaper lady, but I think it would be sooo funny if xia fei actually has white hair for similar reasons, and he just dyes it blond. there are moments in xia fei's character video where the lighting makes it look white, so it's not hard to imagine

DAWN VOICEOVER: Nobody knows who I am. Not the real me. It's like, nobody cares enough to find out. I mean, does anyone ever ask *me* what I want to do with my life? Or what my opinion is on stuff? Or what restaurant to order in from? No. Underline. Exclamation point. Exclamation point, exclamation point. No one understands. No one has an older sister who's a slayer. People wouldn't be so crazy about her if they had to live in the same house with her every single day. Everybody cares what she thinks. Just 'cause she can do backflips and stuff. Like that's *such* a crucial job skill in the real world.

TROP Theories about Adar
I can't stop thinking of anything else than the last episode since thursday and as I'm still delulu about Adar's fate, two theories came to my mind and the second one is my favorite.
Before going on further, let's recap : after being stabbed to death by some of his children, Adar is left lying on the ground while Sauron orders Glûg and the other traitors to go back to the city and then has a fight with Galadriel. After Galadriel falls off the cliff, Glûg and the orcs come back to express their concern about the dwarves overwhelming them and Sauron kills Glûg.
We don't really know what Sauron does next but there is one important point : except for Galadriel, Sauron and the few traitors, no one knows that Adar is dead.
Then I thought : what if Sauron takes Adar's body back to Eregion? and here come my theories
Theory n°1
! Warning : I'm going hard on this one !
We all talked about Celebrimbanner but what if there was also an Adarbanner? Well, it's not even sure that there will be Celebrimbanner as some time, maybe some years, may have past between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 and so the orcs may not still be in the late Eregion but if they do, that might happen and the Adarbanner could be a warning to the orcs, to be a way to remember them what happens when the try to turn against Sauron.
Theory n°2
I promise, it's way better and not as traumatizing as the previous one
What if Sauron resurrected Adar?
Look, I'm not an expert in LOTR lore so I don't know if it's even possible but one of Sauron's name is the Necromancer so he surely is able to bring someone back to life.
My theory is that Sauron resurrects Adar and uses him as a puppet. Adar would not remember who he was and he would become a sort of emissary who would be sent in different places in Middle-Earth to gather allies for Sauron.
He would speak Black Speech only and that would explain why Sam Hazeldine said "maybe next year" during an interview where there was a discussion about Black Speech and how to remember the words and sentences.
Maybe Adar could have another appearance or be like a Nazgûl, with a black robe. And just imagine the reaction of Galadriel learning that Adar is alive (or sort of) but turned into a faithful servant of Sauron! Indeed, after she recovers from the fight against Sauron, she will surely say to Gil-galad, Elrond and Arondir that Adar died but what if some time past and one of them is like : "Well, you said Adar was dead but it seems you were wrong because we had just seen him leading an army". (okay I'm a bit overthinking here)
Anyway, it would be so cool and I really think it could work. I mean, it doesn't sound that crazy, right?
What do you think about this second theory?

Weekly Recap | January 1st-7th 2024
Tumblr media
First rec of 2024! Happy New Year everyone! I hope it's a good one!
(damn, can you tell I was off from work? this rec is long af 😅 I know it's a bit late but once I got done I just wanted to yeet it off my drafts asap)
Complete
🔥 All My Shattered Oaths by letmetellyouaboutmyfeels/ @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels (Vampires AU | 107K | Explicit): Eddie wants to stay away from his family’s legacy and give his son a normal life. Buck’s desperate to find a way to get over the love he lost. Fate has other plans for both of them.
🔥 a blaze in the dark by woodchoc_magnum/ @woodchoc-magnum (Post-S6, Eddie Coming Out | 117K | Explicit): Set post-Season 6, where Buck has inadvertently sacrificed his friendship with Eddie in order to focus on his new relationship with Natalia, and is shocked when Eddie comes out to the team and subsequently reveals that he is dating a guy.
i'm down on my knees (i wanna take you there) by burnthatbridge/ @burnthatbridge (PWP, Glory Hole | 5K | Explicit): Buck is… a little drunk. So, he honestly thinks, when he first spots it, after stumbling into the stall, clumsily undoing his fly, and taking a very needed leak, that he’s seeing things. It takes him reaching out — with a hand he was already going to wash and probably should doubly do so now — and sticking a finger through it to convince him that the sight hasn’t been fabricated by his inebriated brain. It’s real. It’s a glory hole. His first thought is, huh; his second is, I have got to show Eddie.
making love to the flashes by sibylsleaves/ @sibylsleaves (PWP, Hot Firefighter Calendar | 11K | Explicit): When Buck had told them all the Hot Days, Smoldering Nights, Men of the LAFD Wall Calendar had selected him to represent the 118 for the month of July, Eddie hadn’t thought much of it. He’d congratulated him with a clap on the shoulder, laughed along with Hen, Chim, and Bobby’s good-natured teasing, and that had been that. Well, Eddie certainly isn’t laughing now.
with a bird at your door by @sibylsleaves (S6, Getting Together | 3K | General): Eddie starts spending all his time with Buck. Which would be fine if it weren't for the fact that Buck is in love with him.
we're gonna need some land between our bodies by @sibylsleaves (Post-Poker Date | 9K | Explicit): or, Buck and Eddie can't fuck yet (four times Buck and Eddie try to define the relationship and the one time they do)
my heart's a secret (tell me you'll keep it) by @sibylsleaves (Getting Together | 5K | Teen): Or, Buck tells Chimney a secret. This proves to be a mistake.
the winner takes it all (the loser has to fall) by @burnthatbridge (Getting Together | 4K | Teen): Buck and Lucy compete to see who's the better kisser. Eddie somehow finds himself the judge. (Part 1 of winner takes all)
the winner takes all (of me) by @burnthatbridge (PWP, Buck/Eddie/Lucy | 4K | Explicit): An alternative ending to Buck and Lucy's kissing competition. (Part 2 of winner takes all)
Calling (So You'll Answer) by Princessfbi / @princessfbi (Angst, Hurt Buck | 29K | Mature | Warning: Rape/Non-Con): “Buck? Did you drunk dial me?” Eddie did not envy Buck’s headache in the morning. He fought back the urge to smile at the thought of Buck, hungover and pouting with his curls in wild form on his head and his hands twisting and knotting in his favorite hoodie for the comfort the texture brought him. “Can you come take me h-home?” Buck asked, his voice sounding so painfully young. “I don’t …feel good.”
Smoke and Ashes Brushed Off with Ink by @princessfbi (Tattoo Artist Eddie AU | 18K | Mature): Tattoo Artist!Eddie Diaz AU inspired by the tumblr thread about praise kink discovery when getting a tattoo.
i'll lie awake for you by diazbegins/ @evanbegins (Married Buddie, PWP | 8K | Explicit): Or: Buck and Eddie, newly-weds, spend their well-deserved time alone.
I'd Wait Here Forever by @princessfbi (Angst, Stalker | 21K | Mature | Warning: Rape/Non-Con): “Come on. You and me could—” Buck caught Chimney moving to intervene between them but the words were already falling past Buck’s lips before he even realized he was speaking. “I have a boyfriend.” Buck stopped when he registered the words. So, did Chimney before he shot Buck a look over his shoulder like Buck had grown a second head. Probably because, like Buck, Chimney knew that Buck did not have a boyfriend. In fact, he’d been single for a painfully long time since he and Taylor split up. Single and probably very obviously hung up on his best friend who didn’t seem to notice the way Buck would throw himself into oncoming traffic if Eddie asked.
Tear Me to Pieces; Skin to Bone by @princessfbi (Undercover Mission, kidnapping | 22K | Teen | Warning: Violence): Bobby wasn’t comfortable with the LAPD wanting to use Buck as bait. Because that’s exactly what Buck would be: bait. Or: The LAPD want to borrow Buck for an undercover mission to hunt down a serial killer. No one is thrilled.
pink and black and blue by devirnis/ @devirnis (Getting Together | 1,5K | Teen): “Hey!” Buck calls. Eddie spares himself a moment to briefly entertain the idea of fleeing out the back, but knows it would ultimately be pointless. His truck is in the driveway so Buck knows he’s home, and they’re on shift together in two days and there’s no way his bruises will be gone by then, no matter how much he ices them. “In the kitchen,” Eddie answers resignedly. (Bad Things Happen Bingo: Black Eye)
on sleep and unspoken things by evcndiaz/ @evcndiaz (Post-S4 | 2K | Not Rated): “You reached out for me. On that day. You tried to touch me.” The words sink into the silence between them. He did, didn't he? Eddie doesn't remember much from the shooting—only pain, and fear, and screaming (his own and so many others), and the vague echo of Buck’s voice—but he remembers that.
in red blue green by hammersmiths/ @henswilsons (Documentary | 11K | Teen): The commissioner signs off on a workplace documentary set in the 118 to better community attitudes towards the fire department. Unfortunately, whatever is going on between Firefighters Buckley and Diaz is a much more interesting story.
with blood in my nose by @henswilsons (Canon Divergent, S4E14: Survivors | 9K | Teen): or, Buck is the one who gets shot instead of Eddie.
let me know you (bedhead and morning breath) by @burnthatbridge (Post-Lightning | 6K | Explicit): Buck hasn't gotten off since the lightning strike. Eddie watches him do something about it.
sometimes an onion really is just an onion (and that’s all there is to it) by snarkymuch / @snarkythewoecrow (Post-Grocery Store Argument | 5K | Teen): Buck wanted fajitas, so he went to the store for the sweet onions he needed, but he got the wrong kind because he unexpectedly ran into the team, which had nothing to do with why he was crying in his kitchen--obviously, the shitty onions were to blame. And his day just gets worse from there--as he ends up fileting off a strip of skin, bleeding everywhere, then accidentally hitting his talk-to-text and sending a ramble he never meant anyone to hear to the last person on earth to care: Eddie.
i find you in everything (but its here you find yourself) by withmeornotatall/ @chronicowboy (Post-S6, Getting Together | 3K | Teen): Buck takes another sig of beer, "she left." "Sorry, man, I know you liked her. Guess where most people are scared of death, a death doula is scared of life." "Wow, that's actually pretty poignant," Buck says. "Didn't know you had it in you." Eddie just rolls his eyes. "Its weird, though, her being scared off by a donor baby." Eddie frowns over at him. "Chris didn't freak her out?"
Paper Rings by buckleyblueyes (orphan_account) (Canon Divergent, S4 | 6K | Teen): Maddie went quiet for a moment, looking at him not with pity, but instead with empathy, and shared sadness. “So. What did you find, then?” “An engagement ring.” The words weighed heavy on his tongue. “He’s going to propose to Ana.”
Burn a bridge, learn how to swim by WatermelonShots (AvocadosUnderTheEaves) / @applesorcery (Getting Together | 13K | Mature): In which there is some unexpected making out, some pining, one third of an existential crisis and a lot of unhelpful advice. Not necessarily in that order. (Part 1 of Burn a bridge, learn how to swim)
Can't cross the sea just standing there by WatermelonShots (AvocadosUnderTheEaves)/ @applesorcery (Established Buddie, PWP | 7K | Explicit): In which there are sleepovers and snakes and some jealousy. (But probably not the kind you think.) (Part 2 of Burn a bridge, learn how to swim)
tell me how it feels (say it ain't so) by Iover_of_mine (I_almost_do)1 @lover-of-mine (Post-S6, Getting Together | 8K | Teen): Eddie hears Natalia saying Buck's death was cool and things spiral out of control from there.
Arm Candy by @princessfbi (Poker Date spec | 8K | General): “Act cool.” Buck shivered at the rumble of Eddie’s voice. “I think I got us in on the game.” Act cool? Act cool! How was Buck was supposed to act cool when he had Eddie dressed like sin parading Buck around like Buck choked on his tongue as he finally realized what Eddie was doing and why apparently everyone had been so blasé about Buck going undercover after treating him like he was made of glass for weeks. “Am I the arm candy?” Eddie was damningly silent.
empty, broken, lonely, hoping by DaniWib/ @daniwib (Post-S6, Presumed Dead | 44K | Mature): Eddie's world crumbles when Buck’s apartment building becomes engulfed in a cataclysmic seven-alarm fire, resulting in a devastating mass casualty event. Amidst the chaos, Eddie and the rest of the 118 grapple with the heart-wrenching belief that both Buck and Christopher have met a tragic fate within the merciless inferno.
i lit the match, the firemen can do the rest by honestlydarkprincess / @honestlydarkprincess (Post-S6, PWP | 6K | Explicit): Or, the one where Eddie is pining and decides to drive over to Buck's. He doesn't expect to walk in on friends-with-benefits Buck and Natalia and he definitely doesn't expect the night to end with him getting everything he's ever wanted with Buck.
The Comfort of Your Hands by Spotsandsocks/ @spotsandsocks (Getting Together | 3K | Teen): Buck accidentally starts running his fingers through Eddie’s hair. Eddie lets him and things slowly move towards something special.
unfold me (tell me you love me) by extasiswings/ @extasiswings (S4, Love confession | 2K | Teen): Eddie goes on a date and has some realizations about what he really wants
the measuring contest by ColorMeParanoid/ @color-me-paranoid (9-1-1 LS S2E3: Hold the Line | 2K | Teen): Hen snorted from her own cot. “Trust me, guys. This isn’t the kind of measuring contest you want to play with Buck because you will lose.” But, comparing scars and exchanging crazy stories when meeting other people in your profession was basically a rite of passage so of course they didn’t take her warning seriously. It became a challenge instead and Eddie settled in for the show.
live while we're young by ashavahishta / @ashavahishta (De-Aging | 5K | General): Or: Some wonky magic leaves the firefam to take care of a tiny Buck for a few days. He's really, unfairly cute.
Radio Silence by madamewriterofwrongs/ @madamewriterofwrongs (Hurt Buck | 9K | Mature): Bobby was going to have a long talk with him about his self-sacrificing habits. For now, he kept his words calm and authoritative; for both their sakes. “None of that, you just hold still. Are you injured?” There was silence. Around him, the paramedics and firefighters of the 118 waited with bated breath. “Pretty bad.” There was little humor in his voice, though they could hear him trying. “My head. And uh, hahaha,” his laughter came as a gust of air. “I’ve been impaled?”
Buck Is My Warrior by elisela/ @elisela (Fluff | 5K | General): “We’ll be filming a special edition of American Ninja Warrior,” Troy announces after the introduction to the current contestant ends, “focused on our brave first responders. Go to our website to find out more details and how to submit your videos.” Oh. “Buddy,” Eddie says, “I don’t really know if that’s my thing.” Christopher looks at him, then says, “I want to nominate Buck.”
The Badass Background of one Evan Buckley series by Onlymystory / @theallandthemoreofit (Navy SEAL Buck | 5 works | 32K | Complete):
A Six Minute Man (Hostage | 3K | Teen): Or the one where Buck's secret background as a Navy SEAL comes in really handy in a hostage situation. Buck Begins (Backstory | 1K | Mature): When Evan Buckley Spencer is five years old, he wants to be a firefighter. They save people he says. He’s going to be one someday. One of the Good Guys (Revenge | 3K | Mature): Eddie says “You find every single person that hurt our son and you burn them to the ground.” - The Moscow Rules are simple. “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time is enemy action."
With A Little Help From My Friends by @extasiswings (PTA Eddie | 3K | Teen): Eddie makes friends outside of work and realizes that Buck might not, in fact, be just a friend
(Not) Under the Mistletoe by Tizniz / @tizniz (Christmas | 2K | Not Rated): Buck is definitely not avoiding Eddie at the Christmas party where mistletoe is everywhere.
Flash Forward by @daniwib (Different First Meeting | 3K | Explicit): The last thing Eddie remembered was pressing the tiny, blood smeared photograph of Christopher to his trembling lips while huddled behind rocks, hiding from the insurgent's attack. The next thing he knew was when he woke up, naked, with a muscular body on top of him. OR: Eddie has a flash forward when he gets shot during his last tour.
WIP
and we are homeward bound by glorious_spoon/ @glorious-spoon (established Buddie | 1/3 | 3K | Explicit): "Okay," Buck says finally, muffled. He rubs his face against Eddie's shirt again. "You promise you're not going to dump me if he smashes a salad bowl over this?" "I promise I will not dump you if our kid has a tantrum about us finally getting our act together," Eddie recites solemnly. Buck laughs against his shoulder and finally pulls back. Or: Buck and Eddie get around to telling the people they love that they're together. (sequel to Something Dumb to Do)
Kiss Me Once Cause You Know I Had A Long Night by I_still_dont_understand_13 / @sherlockcrossing (Prompt collection | 21/? | 14K | Teen): 100 kiss prompts.
Chapter 21. 10. Surprise kisses, in which your lover wasn't prepared but responds immediately
🔥 Precious & Fragile Things by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Small Miracles AU, Angel Buck | 10/? | 25K | Teen): Buck is the Fallen Angel of Petty Temptation, who has been tasked with tempting human Eddie Diaz to sin and enjoy life, but just a little. He thinks the job will be easy - get in, get out, go back to Peru to continue messing around with eternity. But when Buck arrives in Los Angeles, he finds Eddie is harder to tempt than expected, and more compelling than Buck had hoped.
and if i bleed (you'll be the last to know) by diazchristopher/ @captain-hen (Canon Divergent Season 6, Friends with Benefits | 2/18 | 9K | Explicit): or, an alternate look at season 6 where buck and eddie have been casually sleeping together since before the beginning of the season. somehow, this changes both everything and nothing at all.
🔥 Things We're All Too Young to Know by @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon, S1 through S6 | 104/? | 283K | Mature): This is a love story. Even if it doesn’t always look like it. Even if it doesn’t always feel like it. A look back on Eddie and Buck's lives up to now, and what led them to each other, interpreted from the current 9-1-1 canon.
Re-Read
🔥 the weekly bet (but the forever kind) by theleftboobgrabber (Post S3E15 | 49K | Explicit): When the squad bets on how long it will take for Buck and Abby to get back together when she comes back to LA, Eddie is forced to reconsider keeping his feelings for Buck a secret.
🔥 come out to the sea, my love by allyasavedtheday/ @littlespoonevan (Canon Divergent - Tsunami | 8K | Teen): Tsunami au in which the 118 find out about Buck and Chris being stranded on top of the ladder truck and come to rescue them before they get separated.
🔥 Your Scars and Your Lonely Heart by Taste_is_Sweet (Sentinels AU, Tsunami | 82K | Teen): Clara Williams just wanted to visit Pacific Park during her layover in Los Angeles. She never expected to find a young, exceptional Sentinel dying for lack of a bond. Actually, what she really never expected was a tsunami, or the same Sentinel to save her life. But Clara's a Guide, so now she's on a mission to keep Evan "Buck" Buckley alive until she can get him to Eddie Diaz, the Guide who should have bonded with him, but didn't. Because Clara can't bond with Buck, no matter how much she wants to. There's just one problem: Buck's convinced Eddie doesn't want him, and he might not survive long enough to find out the truth.
i (for)get you by withmeornotatall/ @chronicowboy (Temporary Amnesia | 6K | General): buck hits his head, forgets the past month and suddenly eddie has a secret girlfriend... right?
you're my whole house by hammersmiths / @henswilsons (Getting Together, PTA Eddie | 12K | Teen): Eddie shrugs. “Christopher mentioned to Daniel that Buck and I are partners. I mean, sure, it’s a little weird that she invited him over as well, but—” “Partners,” Hen interrupts, “like work partners?” Eddie and Buck glance at each other. “Uh, yeah?” Eddie says. “What other type of partner?” Hen stares at them for a moment, before she bursts out laughing. “You dumbasses. She thinks you’re together.” or, Eddie joins the PTA.
I can't love you any more (than I do now) by wikiangela/ @wikiangela (Didn't Know They Were Dating | 2K | General): Eddie's pretty sure he and Buck are dating and kind of living together. Neither acknowledges it, until Eddie finally does.
Tell me where you wanna go by allyasavedtheday/ @littlespoonevan (Post-S6E11: In A Flash | 4K | Teen): Buck wakes up from his coma and Eddie offers him a passenger seat and a couch and a home.
🔥 Autocowrecked by HMSLusitania/ @hmslusitania (Miscommunication | 2K | Teen): Eddie is never, ever using the talk-to-text function on his phone. Ever again.

Tommy and Grace and Marriage Part 2
So, I originally planned to start part 2 with season 2, but the season 1 thoughts are still going strong.
To be fair, season 2 begins with a recap of season 1, which is focused on Tommy and Grace. The only other character that appears in the recap is Campbell. We see Grace shooting him as the last thing she does before leaving Tommy and then England behind.
Tumblr media
Otherwise, the recap is centered around juxtaposing Grace and Tommy's love scene with their goodbyes - both the last time we see them together in person, when Grace tells Tommy she loves him, and Tommy writing the letter to Grace telling her he isn't going to run away with her to New York.
Tumblr media
I find it fascinating that Tommy does indeed flip the coin. While he tells Grace that "perhaps" he will do so, we get to see how torn he truly is. He isn't fully settled on the choice he has made, choosing his family, those he "loves," and the business success he's created over his "love." Our superstitious gypsy is relying on this crutch. When facing his own doubt and loneliness later, maybe he can console himself that it was fate that drove them apart. He could tell himself that they weren't meant to be, that they came from those different worlds, that he could never be enough, and thus, it was better that she went off without him. We know that Tommy finds Grace worthy of "impressing" and making himself a "success" as she "wasn't born to be with a man like" him. However, he'll still always know that the choice to flip the coin in the first place was his own and one that he can't get over, as he can't move on from Grace.
Tumblr media
He tries to convince himself and others that he can move on, if only partially. When waiting for Kimber in the Garrison, Harry asks him if he'll "go looking for her," and Tommy shakes his head no asserting, "she's in the past" and "the past is not my concern. And the future is no longer my concern either" as his future is hers. It was his concern, as he planned to marry her, but now it is "no longer." He argues that all there is to life is the present "soldier's minute" but it is a claim that is juxtaposed with their love scene showing that his head and heart still think about the past he's lost and the future he dreamt of.
After telling Grace that they have no chance, he returns to his family, popping the champagne that "she brought" to celebrate their success. While his words are congratulatory towards his brothers, his tone and face are despondent as he lowers his head to the bar unable to witness the space that used to be filled with Grace, to participate in a celebration that she was to help lead.
Tumblr media
Polly lovingly places her hand on his head, consoling him that "there will be others" and Tommy does agree, toasting to the others, "all of them," as he confirms that while he'll let her physically go, the emotional hold Grace has on him will remain. He won't swear off sex but he confirms that his one true love is gone and unable to be replaced.
In the face of the choice to let her go, I think Tommy thought that he could move on more than he does, even if not fully. He wants to convince himself that he can consign her to the past to be able to survive without her. However, the recap let's us know so clearly that while it might be "two years later," all of his feelings and internal conflicts are still there.
In the family meeting, Tommy tells Esme to speak for herself as they are a "modern" business that believes in equal rights. Polly challenges him asserting that "you don't listen to a word" the women say. She questions, "Maybe you don't trust us."
Tumblr media
Tommy looks down and doesn't respond. Polly follows up, saying, "she was one woman, Thomas" with a switch from Tommy to Thomas. She appeals to his sense of family, her role of his elder who has known him and has taken care of him since birth. She implies she knows better. But he continues to look down and refuses to engage, very much like the little boy the name change suggests. For Tommy, she wasn't one woman, but the woman.
Polly suggests, "Maybe it's time to forget about her." "Forget about who," he finally replies, still refusing to look at her. And with this, Tommy wins the exchange. Polly gives in, unlocks the safe, and after Tommy leaves, she pushes coins off the table.
The level of frustration and the fact that they don't mention Grace's name but that everyone knows who they are talking about supports the idea that they've had this conversation many times before with the same results. Grace's memory and what she means to Tommy, being his "one," is still startlingly clear. And with that, we see his strategies to survive without her: bury his feelings and distract himself with work and sex as the exact next scene is his first sex scene with Lizzie.
As only the second sex scene we see Tommy in (astoundingly in contrast to later seasons), the scene couldn't be more explicit of how different this exchange is from his physical and emotional intimacy with Grace.
With Grace, they hold and gently caress the other. They kiss constantly and undress, surrendering to the other in their most vulnerable state. They change positions as Tommy pulls Grace on top of him in a position of control and power. He let Grace lead, not just willing to give up control for once but desiring it. He only makes a move with her in the first place after Grace implies that he should stay all night (before that he's trying to reassure her that he'll leave once the police search quiets down). What happens is dependent upon Grace's consent and desires, just as when he asks her "properly" to dance and thus touches her in the first place.
Tumblr media
With Lizzie, this is a physical and economic exchange as he's called her as a sex worker to his office. He's almost fully clothed, barely touches her, doesn't look at her, and barely speaks to her when they are finished, and she's trying to engage with him. He is in complete control.
Tumblr media
She asks him if he'll "come back" to visit her before he goes to London and he shortly says, "no" as he counts off her payment to lay on the desk. Disappointed, Lizzie relates that she "wishes just once you wouldn't pay me. As if we were ordinary people." Tommy just says, "yeah," and leaves.
Tumblr media
It's significant that even when coping with sex, Tommy goes back to a past relationship before Grace verses the idea of moving on with anyone new. Lizzie thinks the distance between them is due to their positions. But in reality, he's only called her here to help drown out the memories of Grace that Polly evoked. She is what stands between them.
Thus, Tommy gives her what he can, even if it is not what Lizzie truly wants. As he hires her to be his secretary, he tells Lizzie, "You can stop the other work...all of it. No exceptions," including him - especially him. Hiring Lizzie for real is his way to end things between them officially.
Their exchanges aren't actually helping him to forget Grace, so he might as well stop. He tried to escape to a person and a time before her, but it's just not possible. What Lizzie wants - a loving future with Tommy - is still something he only wants to offer Grace.
The lovely irony of the episode is that Grace never truly appears. No one ever even says her name (not Polly, Tommy, or Campbell - who we'll address in part 3). However, she has so much presence in the episode and significance to the narrative: the development of all Tommy's other relationships with women and his central conflict of the season. She has so much impact on Tommy's life, even when she isn't physically present. It leaves the audience thinking about her, missing her, and longing for her return - purposefully mimicking Tommy's own feelings.
It will be Tommy at the beginning of 2×02 who will first directly and explicitly mention Grace - and it reveals so much of the hold she still has on him two years later (that we'll contemplate next time!).

🍀A Night With Nina🍀 - Total Drama Viewer Reacts to Disventure Camp Season 2 Episode 8 “Nightmare At Tipiskaw”
Tumblr media
TRIGGER WARNING: BLOOD & GORE
Okay, this italicized part is an EDIT after the reaction. I need to put up a trigger warning for this episode as a reason why I might not show as many images as usual.
I don't think it's as bad as it could've been, otherwise I think OddNation would get demonetized. But to be on the safe side, THIS EPISODE/THIS POST IS NOT FOR THE HEMOPHOBIC.
I WILL put a TW in the tags as well so they don't see the post. But in case your account doesn't have the filter for this sort of thing, HERE'S YOUR WARNING.
Been awhile since the events of my life yaddy yada.
I don't have an intro.
Enjoy the reaction:
Tumblr media
OH NO THE GO KARTS ARE BACK XD
Those karts are gonna be the DEATH of someone. I swear.
They almost killed a kid once.
"I'm the one who does the accounting. Remember?"
YOU?!
So that's where our taxes go...
"Because if I do it, I would be admitting that I was wrong!"
Dang. She's a brat.
But I get why. So I'm interested.
Oh the doll is recapping XD
Okay I like that. That's a good twist and shake up.
Tumblr media
OH CHRIST
OH THAT ACTUALLY JUMPSCARED ME. OH MY GOD.
THIS DOLL'S GONNA KILL EVERYONE, I SWEAR.
"In fact, I was thinking of getting a tattoo when this is all over."
Okay, Lake, honey, I think that's going too far.
Tumblr media
WAIT WHOA WHAT
WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THAT?!
WHAT?! THERE WAS NO BUILD UP!!
Tumblr media
"Attention campers, an immunity totem has been hidden somewhere in the camp!"
An idol is back?
T h e i d o l s a r e b a c k . . . ?
WELL THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO KEEP IT A SECRET FROM THE AUDIENCE.
What was the point of keeping it a secret from the audience?
I WOULD'VE LOVED TO KNOW ROSA HAD AN IDOL.
I-
tumblr
I'm losing my mind already.
Just by LOOKING at an idol. I lose it.
I'm going to abstract. I have PTSD with idols now.
GET THAT IDOL OUT OF MY FACE!!!
"I found the totem minutes before the queens challenge started."
Wasn't Riya with you? Shouldn't Riya already know about this?
Considering, you know:
Tumblr media
"You had a couple of hours to find the totem, and just minutes before the challenge started, it was finally found."
Wait what?
We didn't see who had it?
Are they keeping it a secret on who found it?
KRYSTAL SAID THAT. I REMEMBER IT.
I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER IT BECAUSE I REACTED TO THAT LINE.
Riya should already know. Right?
Unless she's secretly planning to steal it.
OH GOD THE COUNTER IS BACK.
STEAL THE IDOL FROM ROSA
NO SHE HEARD ME.
She's like "Yeah Rosa. Bold of you to trust me with that info. Not like I could think strategically, see you and Lake are threats, and steal that idol from you to dump your asses! I AM A FAMOUS AC-TOUR AND I WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY POWER!"
Why did I say that with a British accent? SHE'S INDIAN. COME ON ME.
I'm sorry for the disrespect, Riya! You can slay! This is my way of saying sorry, queen!
I love Rosa and don't want anyone to slay her, but I'm also like "DO IT YOU WON'T. DO IT YOU WON'T."
"I was searching with Rosa that day, and now that Lake is in the alliance is when she decides to reveal that she found the totem?! Why didn't she tell me before?! Does she not trust me?"
EXACTLY. THEY'RE ADDRESSING THIS.
Now Riya thinks her only 'friend' is going to blindside her and backstab her and leave her behind.
MAYBE YOUR PROBLEMS WOULD BE SOLVED IF YOU STOLE THE IDOL? HMMM? JUST A SUGGESTION?
"Maybe we should have focused that afternoon on the game so we go far together."
UH, YEAH, THAT WAS ON YOU GUYS.
Are they better or worse than Reality TV's Stupidest Alliance? I can't tell. But that's up there.
DON'T BLAME TESS FOR ANYTHING. SHE CHOSE TO ACCEPT HER FATE.
BLAME ANYONE, BLAME THESE GUYS.
"Meet me at the race track in fifteen minutes."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
UH, SIR. I DON'T THINK THAT'S FIFTEEN MINUTES.
"Sorry for the wait, Marcus had a little accident."
DID THE DOLL KILL HIM?!
I can believe that, actually.
"I am more than happy to invite all of you to my fun game."
OH NO IT'S SAW
Tumblr media
"Have you already forgotten that the puppet spoke when I held it?"
"I'm pretty sure that thing is a demon that's gonna kill us."
"Best thing is to ignore all of that and enjoy this night off."
Rosa, I love you, but you have a death wish.
"Let's go to the lake to see the stars."
"Great idea, Lake!"
Ah, AH? I get the pun.
"But first, I'm going to take a shower."
Well, we know who's dead.
"How about we watch... a horror movie?"
James, you secretly enjoy this, don't you?
Tumblr media
OH NO AND THEN HE PUTS AN ARM AROUND HIM...
AND THEN THE CREEPY MUSIC PLAYS?!
LIKE GOD, YOU CAN'T NOT TELL ME THAT MAKES THE GESTURE SINSTER!
"Maybe when we're done and you're scarred, we can go behind the bushes and MAKE LOOOOOVEEEE..."
"HASHTAG EXPLICIT AO3 FANFICTION!! FOR THE GAY SERVICE!"
James. You make me uncomftorable.
Tumblr media
OH GOD SHE IS A DEMON. SHE HAS HIM CAPTIVE.
I don't like how he's tied up...
Tumblr media
XD
Okay that bitch slap got a laugh out of me. XD
Tumblr media
Why is the popcorn already in the pan like that?
If it was left out there, I don't want to eat it.
"I'm following you."
XD
Okay, my brain went to, "I'm following you... ON INSTAGRAM!"
And James reaction is, "Oh neat! You follow me on Instagram? Great!"
PLEASE tell me that's the joke!
"Ew. Another follower who gets my number."
Oh... close enough.
"Do you like them better than your boyfriend Aiden?"
Why do you care about that?! Hello?! ANOTHER predator?
"He's not my boyfriend..."
Oh really? So what was the kiss? What was the attitude? What's with sleeping together? THESE AREN'T FRIENDLY GESTURES MATE.
This man's a predator, I swear to god...
Tumblr media
You know what? GET HIM SERIAL KILLER.
Man, if only Yul was still here. Then I could watch hm get killed.
That would've been an excuse to keep him, at least.
Tumblr media
OH JESUS CHRIST. WTF?!
I DIDNT EXPECT THAT. HOLY SHIT
HE ACTUALLY DIED?!?!?
Oh shit…
IS THIS VR AGAIN?! IS THAT WHAT THIS IS?! HUH?!
Tumblr media
That's actually creepy holy shit...
Why does that remind me of something from FNAF?
Tumblr media
Okay, why are we watching her shower? Come on now. We know she's dead.
Yep. There we go.
Bye Allyson.
RULE NUMBER ONE OF SURVIVING A HORROR MOVIE, NEVER TAKE A SHOWER.
Tumblr media
GOOD THING THE SERIAL KILLER WAS NICE ENOUGH TO PUT A TOWEL AROUND HER XD
THAT'S NICE OF THEM.
Why was she wearing shoes in the shower?
"That puppet..."
Okay I know he's supposed to be angry, but he said that so DEADPANNED and I cant take it seriously.
Welp, Hunter's dead.
The doll just killed him herself XD
Oh you poor, poor, stupid boy.
The best girls can take em!
Tumblr media
OH GOD
Tumblr media
HEEEEEERRE'S JOHNNY!!
NO RIYA!! NOT THE QUEEN!!
"Do you know how to start the car without keys?"
"Yes, and don't ask me how."
Oh geez, Rosa. How many crimes did you commit for your child?
"You're going to be screwed for what you did, bastard!"
YES. SLAY QUEEN. AVENGE YOUR QUEEN.
LET ROSA COOK.
ROSA NO DON'T STAY BEHIND. NO QUEEN! DON'T!
"I grew up in a neighborhood where seeing assholes with weapons threatening others was the daily norm."
Geez, what a backstory. BEFORE DEATH.
HOW IS ROSA SO GOOD?
NOOO ROSA!!!!
YES LAKE!!! FIGHT EM!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!!
GET OUT, QUEEN!!!
Tumblr media
OH SHE'S GOT EM
"That's for attacking my friends!"
"Auf Wiedersehen."
Guys? Lake is AWESOME? THE HELL?
Tumblr media
NOOOO LAKE!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!
Tumblr media
Oh they're alive.
I mean I knew it. Still. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE WITHOUT VR?!
I'm so confused.
Tumblr media
BRUH. SHE'S NAKED STILL.
This is kinda uncomftorable
"Ketchup?"
Okay but why play dead though? I don't get it.
"Tranquilizers?"
Oh okay.
I still don't get it.
Tumblr media
WAIT WHAT THE HELL?! HELLO?!
I THOUGHT YOU WERE GONE. WHAT THE HELL?!
WHY ARE YOU BACK?! WHY'D YOU AGREE TO DO THIS?
"But the producers gave me the opportunity to get back in the game if I cooperated for a challenge."
She's back?!
WHY ARE YOU BACK?
I didn't want her back. WHY?
"I hope that from now on, we can get along."
YOU KILLED EVERYONE.
"She also has immunity for her and two people of her choosing."
What? Come on now. Are you kidding me?
"Sorry guys, but the immunities go to Ally and Hunter."
Of course. I kinda figured.
IT'S PLOT ARMOR. IT'S BLATANT PLOT ARMOR.
They didn't even win. But the game became RIGGED to keep them around.
"We will have to vote for one of the girls. There is no other option."
BULLSHIT. LAKE WAS ROBBED.
TWICE.
"Which one would you vote for?"
"Lake?"
And now they're gonna boot her.
GODDAMMIT.
"I think we'll be voting for different people at this ceremony."
WELP. So James is screwed. Bye James.
"And as if that weren't enough problems already, Karol returned who hates us!"
"I mean she KILLED us for crying out loud!"
"I was the one who accused her in front of everyone."
And yet you take this so casually that you're gone tonight as a result?
"Of course I remember, and not once have I seen her blame you for it."
I mean, she should. He outted his own plan in front of her.
"She went to me! Only to me! She called me a traitor and she wants me out of the game!"
Really? Where was that scene?
Tumblr media
"I hope you leave soon, Aiden! You are a traitor!"
🙄
James makes Aiden's life worse. I swear.
Tumblr media
OH GOD.
KAROL JUMPSCARE.
"Aiden, calm down. I will not vote for you, nor for James, so don't worry, okay?"
Oh? Why?
"I'm just trying to turn the page and start over."
Are you serious? I can't tell if she's honest or not.
"But my therapist says that resentment is a drag on the road to recovery."
Oh. Maybe she is serious.
"How about Lake? There are already two challenges that she was very close to winning."
And the game was RIGGED AGAINST MY QUEEN.
Doesn't matter though, cause Rosa has an idol and can play it on Lake.
"I wanted to propose that we vote together in this ceremony."
Oh god no...
Riya the traitor?
STEAL THE IDOL YOU WON'T. STEAL IT YOU WON'T.
"Hmmm, who would it be?"
And the fact that she's intrigued.
The worst part is that it's not actually a bad strategic move. James's only lifeline is Aiden, and Aiden is a damn floater who would crumble without him. And if Hunter and Allyson are gonna work with her to take out two bigger threats, then...
Shit...
"Well, if what Ally said is true, Lake could be voted out tonight. I could tell Rosa to save her with her totem, but I have to think if that's really what I want..."
Oh so this is a test for Riya.
Friends or money? Hmmm...
"If someone has an immunity totem and wants to play it, now is the time to do it."
Ooh...
COME ON. PLAY IT. PLAY IT.
PLAY THE IDOL!!!
"Well, no one, so lets read the votes."
GODDAMMIT NOOOOO
'JAMES'
I hope it's James. Honestly.
'RIYA'
Wh-who voted Riya?
GODDAMMIT AIDEN. YOU DOOMED LAKE BY DOING THAT.
'LAKE'
There it is.
'JAMES'
'LAKE'
'JAMES'
Oh? Riya didn't flip? Or is that Karol?
'LAKE'
OH GOD NO...
Tumblr media
NOOOOOOO GODDAMMIT!!!!
WITH AN IDOL SHE HAD ACCESS TO AS WELL. THAT'S THE WORST.
GIRLIE WAS ROBBED. SHE SHOULD'VE WON THAT IMMUNITY.
"Lake... it can't be."
DON'T ACT SURPRISED. YOU THREW YOUR VOTE.
YOU COULD'VE MADE IT A TIE. JUST SAYING.
"So sad you have to go, Lake."
That sounded so fake.
"Oh no... who could've predicted this? Sooooo saaaaaaaddd... Here's my sad face of pity.😪"
That's a better Indian accent I guess. I'm not good at Indian accents, I'm sorry.
"I'm sorry, Lake. I should have used the totem to save you."
Yeah. You should've.
"Now I am free, thanks to you."
Awwwww.
"I love you, Rosa."
"Awwww, I love you too."
Tumblr media
AWWWWWW, MOTHER DAUGHTER
Tumblr media
Riya's like "Uh... YEAH... I love you too Lake... no I didn't betray you what are you talking about?"
That was Episode 8.
GODDAMMIT LAKE NOOOO.
Lake was robbed. I will not be convinced otherwise. That was a very unfair elimination.
Karol's back. And... nice now? Even though she killed everyone? Idk.
I don't know why she's here.
Rosa has an idol. Riya decided to be a dirty traitor.
Which I'm intrigued by.
I made a JOKE in a previous reaction. Idk which one. About Riya being the evil queen. DID I CALL IT?
We'll see. Idk yet. But that's funny if I DID call it.
I SHOULDN'T HAVE PUT THE BEST GIRLS IN THE HEADING.
Hunter and Allyson officially have plot armor. You can't convince me otherwise.
STEAL THE IDOL RIYA. YOU WON'T. DO IT YOU WON'T.
