ITS DONE!! It took forever but it was worth it :D I drew this for my half-baked poolverine au! It’s kind of a post-apocalyptic time skip, and it’s based on 616 Wade and Wolvie, so not from the Poolverine movie >•< I’m thinking of maybe doing a couple more pieces of them in this au :D

AU lore dump/intro (TL;DR at the end):

It’s been decades (maybe even centuries - who’s keeping track?) since civilisation collapsed, and there’s little left but ruins and bones. Shattered buildings, once tall and steady, litter the skyline.

By all accounts, it’s the end of the world.

And yet, Wade Wilson and Logan Howlett still live on. Their healing factors, although not as fast as they once were, still refuse to let them die. Everyone, and everything, they had once known though, is long gone. Taken by the collapse or just the quiet passing of time. But they’ve managed to find each other, and they’ve made it work.

Right after the collapse, Logan spent months alone, furious and hurting at the loss of the people he’d never been able to admit he cared for. He never stopped moving, tracking faint scent trails across near-empty countries, looking for someone, anyone, that he had known before. Looking for those that he didn’t yet know were alive or dead. ‘Ro, Kurt, Laura, Scott - anyone. Well- anyone but Wade Fucking Wilson.

Logan tries getting rid of Wade for a while after they meet. He yells at him, stabs him, threatens him - but Wade clings on like a damn limpet. A loud, overly affectionate limpet. And for the next few weeks, Logan does not know silence. Wade follows him everywhere.

Eventually, Logan just gives up and stops trying to abandon him in a cave somewhere. He even starts sharing his food and water when it becomes clear that Wade has the self-preservation skills of a newly born puppy. And now that he’s not actively trying to lose Wade, Logan starts noticing something weird’s going on with him. More so than usual, anyway. Sometimes he’ll just stop mid-sentence, confused, unsure of what he was talking about or what he was doing. Or he’ll miss a step while walking, and look around like he’s not sure when he’d gotten here. (Think Wade in the Deadpool and Cable comics prior to Nate using his funky telepathic powers to make it better). He asks Wade about it, and gets a messy answer about regenerative healing factors, cancer, and ‘people who keep fucking about with his brain cells’. Logan chalks it up to what happened in the collapse - no one got out of that unscathed.

Once it’s clear that it’s not something Logan can fix with his claws or his tools, he stops asking. Instead, he compensates. They make it work. Logan gets good at giving Wade the rundown of what’s happened that day when Wade forgets, and dragging him back when he wanders off. And Wade knows to pull Logan out of his thoughts when he notices his Wolvie being a bit too broody and standoffish. Wade understands what Logan’s lost, why he’s still looking so desperately for the ones he loved. Wade had lost his own people, though he has no reason to search like Logan. You can’t look for someone you’ve already buried.

And so Logan and Wade keep travelling. Weeks turn into months, months turn into years, and years turn into decades. The little outposts of survivors that they come across get sparser and sparser, until they disappear completely. Green starts taking over shattered concrete and brick, and the rubble of cities gets covered by a layer of moss and brush. Animals begin settling in on top of the remains of what was once human, and it becomes easier to think that maybe people had never walked the earth at all.

And soon, it becomes clear. They’re the only ones left.

TL;DR: A ‘would you love me if I was the only man left on earth’ situation but it’s not hypothetical.

Jannik Sinner x Former Tennis Player!Reader

Summary: After a brutal injury ends reader's meteoric rise, she disappears from the sport. Until Jannik Sinner finds her years later in Rome, coaching a wildcard on the very courts that should've been hers. She's not the girl he used to chase, and he's not the boy she used to beat.

When they were fifteen, she always beat him to the court.

Morning sessions started at seven, but she’d already be through her first basket of serves by the time Jannik arrived, bag slung over one shoulder, curls still damp from a half-awake shower. She never looked up. Just tossed another ball in the air, fluid and easy, the lefty toss not quite textbook but undeniably hers. He recognized it in his sleep, that uncoiled whip of a swing, the sound it made when she timed it right: low, clean, final.

She was faster than him. Lighter on her feet. Her footwork was tighter, her hands quieter, her temper non-existent. Even when her backhand clipped the net cord and dropped out during match play, she never snapped a string or muttered under her breath. Just shook it off and walked to the other side like it didn’t bother her at all. It drove him crazy in the way that admiration sometimes does.

They trained together every summer at the academy in Bordighera, back when they were still juniors with secondhand rackets and parents who clapped a little too loudly. At first, she barely spoke to him. She was focused. The kind of focused that got under his skin, because it made him feel like he was still a kid playing catch-up. She hit with the older boys. Ran extra laps. Practiced double-handed on both sides, just in case she ever needed it.

"You're not trying to be good," Jannik told her once, wiping sweat off his chin during a break. "You're trying to be perfect."

She took a sip from her water bottle, eyes still on the court. "Trying to win."

And he remembered that. He remembered everything, actually. The way her braids would come loose halfway through drills, the neon pink tape on her wrist, the callus on her index finger from stringing her own rackets at the academy’s shed. She liked black strings and hated indoor courts. Said they made her feel like the air was too still. Trapped.

The first time they played a proper match, she double bageled him.

He was furious, but Jannik couldn't help it but to also admire her play. She was gracious as ever, light on her feet, the way she just floats across the court.

"You played well," she told him at the net, offering her hand, and he wanted to believe it wasn’t pity. Wanted to believe she meant it.

They weren’t friends exactly. But they were something. Rivals, maybe. Mirrors, sometimes. But Jannik couldn't help himself, he felt as if there was something threatening to bloom. And maybe she felt it too. He rose fast, but she rose faster. By seventeen, she had her name stitched on a Nike visor and a junior Grand Slam final under her belt. Reporters circled her like hawks. People talked about her with a kind of breathless expectation. "The next big thing", they said, like she wasn’t still a teenager trying to stay upright under the weight and pressure of it all.

And then came Roland Garros Juniors.

It was supposed to be her title. She’d made the semis look routine, dismantling the third seed in fifty-eight minutes on Court 7. Jannik watched from the top row, elbows on his knees, barely breathing when she hit a running forehand up the line that spun so hard it dropped on the baseline and skipped into the fence.

He never told her he watched. He never told her he skipped his own recovery session just to see her play.

The final was scheduled on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. It was hot that afternoon, the kind of Parisian heat that made the clay smoke beneath your soles. She started strong, holding serve at love. Jannik was in the stands again, this time in a proper seat, credentials hanging around his neck. He could see her clearly from the third row. The thin line between her brows as she bounced the ball, the way she reset after each point like she was erasing the last one.

In the second game of the second set, it happened.

She slid for a wide ball, that same smooth left-foot plant she’d done a thousand times before. But something went wrong. Her shoe caught. Her knee twisted. Her racket dropped to the ground a full second before the scream came.

It was sharp. Real.

Jannik stood before he realized it.

Trainers rushed in. The match was paused. She didn’t get up.

He watched her hold her leg like it might come apart in her hands. Watched the other girl cross the net hesitantly, not sure if she should celebrate or apologize. He watched her get stretchered off the court, face blank, mouth pressed shut like she was refusing to cry until the tunnel swallowed her whole.

And just like that, the golden girl disappeared.

There were whispers after. Surgeries, rehab. A press release about a "complicated tear." She withdrew from Wimbledon juniors. Then the US Open. Then silence. Her social media went dark. Her name stopped showing up in draw sheets.

The world moved on.

But Jannik didn’t. Not really.

Not when he won his first ATP title. Not when he cracked the Top 10. Not even when he stood on the Centre Court of a Slam final and someone in the front row wore a visor just like hers. Not even when held the World No. 1 title.

He still remembered the way she moved, the sound of her serve, the way she told him trying wasn’t enough.

He still remembered her, she haunted him. Always wondering she could be, if he would run into her during tournaments.

And then, years later, in Rome, she came back.

But not to play.

The clay was different in Rome. Deeper. More theatrical. Everything at the Foro Italico felt like it was made to be watched. The marble statues, the sunlit courts, the piazza where the press circled like bees. Jannik didn’t love the noise, but he’d learned how to move through it. Smile here. Interview there. Keep the routine intact.

It was just past four when he cut through the practice courts after media rounds, intending to duck back into the locker room. He kept his head down. Headphones in. Until something stopped him.

Not a sound. A posture.

He looked up. Court 5.

A junior wildcard was practicing, kid from Naples with a sharp slice and nerves too big for his frame. But Jannik’s eyes weren’t on the boy.

She was standing behind the baseline, sunglasses perched on her head, arms crossed, lips pressed together in the way she always did when she was watching. Really watching. Not just looking for errors, but timing. Effort. How much a player wanted it.

The same way she'd once looked at him.

She hadn't changed much. Older, maybe. Stronger in the shoulders. Her hair was different, tied back in a low knot, but the way she moved; that hadn’t changed. She stepped forward during a drill and mimed a motion to the kid, hips rotating, weight shifting, like she was still teaching her own body what to remember.

Jannik’s heart dropped somewhere low in his chest.

He waited until the rally ended before he called her name.

She turned before he finished saying it, and she smiles.

For a second, neither of them said anything.

“Hey,” she greets, in that soft, wry tone that hadn’t aged a day, God, Jannik could fall apart at the sound of her voice. “Didn’t expect to see you lurking around the junior courts.” she smirks, a hand on her hips.

“You never know where the real matches are,” he said, slow smile pulling at the edge of his mouth.

She laughed, quiet but genuine. “Still with the one-liners, eh?.”

“Still trying to impress you, is it working now?” he said before he could help it.

She raised an eyebrow, just stared whilst quirking a playful smile. “You used to do it by overhitting forehands. Am I right or wrong?”

“And you used to do it by destroying my serve.”

“I was fair,” she said. “Just better.”

He smiled again. Because it was true, and because it was good to hear her say it like she used to.

“How long have you been coaching?” He asks, trying to keep up the momentum of their conversation.

“Just started with him a few months ago.” She nodded toward the boy, who was now sipping from a bottle and wiping sweat off his chin like a pro. “He reminds me of you.” She looks at him with a look that Jannik couldn't quite read. Was it longing? Or something else? Jannik couldn't decipher.

“Red hair and sickly looking skin?” he offered.

“No,” she shook her head, laughing. “The way he hates to lose. And you never used to admit it, but it showed. Always trying to hit your way out of frustration. No one could tell you were frustrated, but I dd.”

He tilted his head, a small grin. “You used to smile when I did.”

“You were predictable,” she breathes out. “But not boring.”

There was a pause.

He looked at her again. Not past her. At her. At the hint of sunscreen on her nose, the fray of her old academy cap, the careful way she stood, like she still carried her injury in her bones, even if it didn’t show anymore.

“You ever think about playing again?” he asked.

She shook her head once, not unkindly. “Sometimes. When I’m stringing rackets. Or watching a late match. But I don’t miss the tour.”

“You miss competing,” he said.

She didn’t deny it.

He took a step closer to the fence, fingers curling around the wire like it might keep the moment still.

“I watched your Roland Garros final,” he said.

“I know,” she said, just above a whisper.

He blinked. “How?”

“You always sat in the third row,” she said, turning toward him. “Back then, at least.”

He let that settle. Let the honesty of it rise between them.

“Come watch my match tomorrow,” he said.

She smiled, then shook her head. “You’re not a junior anymore, Jannik. You don’t need me in your corner.”

“That’s not why I want you there.”

She didn’t answer right away. Just looked down, then back at him, eyes thoughtful, careful, familiar.

“Alright then,” she said, soft and certain, smirking.

“Alright.” He grins, and Jannik watches as she walks away from him and towards her protégé. Thinking, 'I found you.'

Glacial Freeze - Drabble

Stanley Pines was a loud person. Most who met him knew this. He was loud when he laughed, talked, when he snored as he slept. Even when he wasn't talking at all, his movements were loud, or at least felt so.

And Stanford had expected him to be loud when he was angry too. In some ways he was, other ways not so much.

Ford was loud when he was angry, screaming at minimum and explosive at worst. He expected his brother to be that same, they were identical twins after all, but he seemed to only be half right. Stan was loud when he was upset or annoyed. Loudly and continuously complaining to anyone who would or wouldn't listen until their ears grew sore. He was loud when being angry about being woken up. When a show or something did an action that pissed him off.

Stanley was loud most times, except when he's truly furious at you.

And not angry or pissed or annoyed, but *furious.* He was quiet, dark, and cold then. And somehow that was scarier than if he did yell. He won't say a word, not an exhale, not a sound. With bottomless dark seething pits for eyes, while staring unblinking at you. Any defense or word you were saying would dissipate with that look.

If Stanford was a volcano, Stanley was a glacial freeze.

Ford has only seen this level of fury from his brother once in the time he's known him. And that was when someone was idiotic enough to insult Soos in front of him.

They were at the shack, having traveled a few days before the niblings were scheduled to arrive for the summer, and Stan was manning the register while Soos did a tour. There were a couple days of school left so Wendy wasn't in yet and Melody was visiting family, and his brother didn't mind filling in. He had also been in the gift shop at the time, chatting about preparations they need to make before the younger twins arrive and how they should take them fishing; maybe even on a small trip on the Stan'O'War. Soos had come in not too long after, having finished his last tour for the day, and joined them. It was still early in for major tourist season so they're was much to do yet on that front, but townsfolk from time to time would ask for a small tour ro see what changes were made to the shack.

Stan and Soos had been discussing new exhibit ideas, as Ford quietly listened, when a man had stormed into the shack. Instantly requesting the owner. Soos had looked timidly around the place for a second before stepping close to see what was wrong. His brother, for his credit, had left the young man a chance to deal with whatever the issue was, seeing that he was no longer that owner anymore. But kept an ear out for if it got out of hand, since Soos had come a long way in confidence and had done well as Mr. Mystery. Stan couldn't get enough of saying how proud he was of the kid, even if most of it wasn't to said kid's face.

Soon, however, it turned sour and the man was just insulting the place. How tacky it was and so on, nothing overly original. Stan had rolled his eyes, having dealt with most of it for thirty years of running the place, and Soos was noticeably pissed but trying to stay calm and respectful. Ford considered stepping in, back the kid up, and from his peripheral he could see Stan was not far after though still seem to be gauging the young man's reaction first. Not wanting to step on Soos's leadership stuffing himself in. Before that could happen though, the man had insulted Soos. Stanford couldn't recalled what it was, his ears filling with fog with growing anger. He hadn't known the kid as his brother had, but was endeared all the same in the small time he known him. Hearing his brother talk about him only further that. Stan, who had had his legs prompt up onto the counter, stood up instantly from his chair and stormed off. He only caught a glimpse from how fast his twin moved, though the look on Stanley's face was haunting. He had never seen such expression on his face, not once, and he wouldn't have to.

Stan wedged himself between Soos and the man There was no yelling, no exchanged, as soon as he was close to the guy he was gripping his shoulder and dragging him outside as if he was the shack's bouncer. No screams or anything came even when they were outside, it was silent and stifling. Soos and him see the man scrambling to run away in the door's window before they see Stan again. And when he did his expression was completely different, still tense, however not as furious as it had been before. His voice was gentle and kind as he asked Soos if he was alright. Wrapping an arm around the kid's back and squeezing his shoulder in a comforting gesture.

When Ford had attempted to ask what he'd said to the guy to make him run so scared, that furious expression from before flashed on his face before sighing. Like just the mention of the dude set a fury in him. He replied with something along the lines of "I told him in a not so nice way to not mess with my family, or I'll acquaint him with the end of a blade where the sun doesn't shine." His brother changed the subject soon after, and Ford obliged since he didn't like seeing his brother upset. He still wondered briefly what exactly happened out there, though he tried not to be bother too much about it. Even if it slightly worried him to see his brother that quiet and that angry in equal measures. It also reaffirmed something he knew about his brother. Family was everything to him. Anyone who messed with his family would deal with his fury or his fists.

And his family would do the same for him

ooh tell me about Rowan's parents?

ooooooh boy get ready for an infodump, my friend.

We have his bio parents and his adoptive parents. This got.... longer than I planned so I'm putting it under a cut 😅

I've made them all in the CC too and played through the prologue for screenshots cause I'm so normal like that.

Bio parents: Delwyn and Rhodri

(I tried to make them so Rowan is a fair mix between them and I think I did okay. Mom's hair and dad's eyes. I'm a little obsessed with Rhodri too he's so cute)

Delwyn is born into slavery, and sold to a noble family in southern Tevinter as a young teen. This household is where she meets Rhodri, who has been there since he was far younger, and very much takes the brunt of their masters' cruelty. Despite this, he is a walking ball of sunshine. Ever the optimist despite his circumstances, he believes wholeheartedly that one day he might, just might, be free. He and Delwyn become fast friends as he helps her navigate the ins-and-outs of surviving the household, and their friendship blossoms into young love as they become older teens. He’s always trying to convince her that they could escape together and go live the life they deserve; Delwyn is the realist of the two and doubts that they could ever succeed.

She gets pregnant when she's 16 and is terrified, rightfully so, for plenty of reasons. She knows she isn’t equipped to be a mother, and the last thing she wants is for her child to grow up like she did. Rhodri is even more insistent that they should run away together, but Delwyn is more scared than ever. They spend too long butting heads about it, almost all the way through her pregnancy (which she manages to hide, and it's not like anyone pays much attention to her anyway). She’s about eight months along when tragedy strikes—Rhodri gets into trouble with his masters, and they beat him so severely that he ends up dead.

And yes, there's a story for that too:

Rhodri turns out to be a mage when his magic manifests at 12 years old. The family he’s owned by is furious when they find out, since they’ve spent years trying to “breed the perfect mage” as Dorian puts it—they can’t believe that none of their children have turned out mages yet, and that the gift is being "wasted on a slave." They keep him around regardless, and this is likely why he takes the brunt of their cruelty. Eventually one of the family’s children does come into their magic, and they accidentally set something of value on fire in the home. Rhodri was in the general vicinity when it happened and the family blames him for it, leading to the beating that ends in his death. (Perhaps they even knew the fire wasn’t his fault, but they didn’t care.)

I HC'ed that Ro inherited his magic from Rhodri but now apparently I've made him a rogue, so. (I'm toying with the idea of him still being a weak mage, though.)

Rhodri’s untimely death finally gives Delwyn the courage to flee, and she does so not long before she goes into labor on the run. She gives birth on her own, and soldiers on for the sake of her newborn. Eventually she comes across a settlement where she spots a Dalish elf trading with humans. She approaches the elf for help, and he brings her back to his encampment: Clan Lavellan. Delwyn is introduced to the Keeper, who graciously and without hesitation offers to take in both of them. Delwyn is unsure if she should stay herself; the Keeper suggests she sleep on it, and they’ll talk more in the morning. Once morning comes, she is gone—the only trace of her a red scarf wrapped around her infant son with a note tucked into the fabric.

“I named him Rowan, but please call him whatever you like. Just promise me that one day you’ll tell him that I’m sorry.”

Delwyn returned home to her owners. Her fate remains unknown.

This is also when the Keeper gives Rowan his Elven name, Shielanas, which translates to wanderer.

Adoptive parents: Eir'lana and Mehrin Lavellan

(Originally had Mehrin TOTALLY different but I wanted to give him some shared features with Ro so the boy wouldn't feel so dumb for not knowing he's adopted. 😭)

Eir'lana is one of the clan's most skilled huntresses. Thick-skinned and tough as nails, but with a warm and caring core—Rowan’s personality was certainly shaped by hers growing up, and he gets his sense of humor from her as well. She and her husband tried and tried for years to have children to no avail, which devastated them both. When Delwyn left her baby boy with the clan, Eir’lana and Mihren were more than happy to take him in. They were in their mid-to-late thirties at the time.

Mihren was once a fierce warrior who would have led the clan’s forces, until a grave injury in his late 20s left him disabled and no longer able to fight (he ended up needing to have his lower right leg amputated, among other injuries that made daily life more difficult). This meant that Mihren needed to find a new path--he discovered a talent for tailoring, and becomes the clan’s armorer. He may not be able to fight any longer, but he still has a part to play in outfitting the other warriors. Alongside this, he tailors most of the clothing for other clan members and takes pride in making elaborate yet practical robes for Rowan when he becomes First (I'll need to retcon this if I continue with Rogue Rowan lol but I love it). Despite his gruff exterior, Mihren is described as a “gentle giant.” He’s large for an elf, and muscular both from his past as a warrior and many years spent hauling metals. Rowan barely resembles him in this sense, but they share light-colored eyes and dark hair since Mihren was a brunette in his younger days, so it isn’t too outlandish that Ro would believe that Mihren was his biological father. His personality softens as he ages, and he’s near forty when he and Eir’lana take in Rowan.

You can imagine that when Rowan loses his arm after Trespasser, all he wants is to be able to talk to his dad about it... but he can’t.

Rowan doesn't learn that he's adopted until he's around 17/18, before he takes his vallaslin, and he only finds out because he overhears a conversation between Mehrin and the Keeper. He knows little to nothing about his bio parents since the Keeper can only tell him what she was told by Delwyn, which wasn't much.

I still have that maybe-AU knocking around in my head where she's alive and they meet somehow, but I have no idea how that would logistically work. 😭

Anyway there's the infodump. Whew. I need to work a bit more on Eir'lana's backstory though, cause I feel like she's a total badass. And if I end up making Rowan an archer, that's definitely heavily influenced by her.

Also, a friend pointed out that "Rowan" almost sounds like a combo between Rhodri/Delwyn which was not intentional but I LOVE it. I actually just pulled the name Rowan out of my ass cause I didn't expect to fall head over heels in love with him, and then I was like damn I should have given him an Elven name but too late now 🙃 for some reason I decided the solution to that was him being adopted and thus this giant mess was born.

honestly… all of them usually get chauffeured/driven places or live in populous areas where commuting via public transport is the norm.

sam + ali can drive. max can’t. frankie wants to.

max is a passenger princess because they can’t drive but they have an annoying trait of backseat driving like….. if you wanna drive get a license 😭 at least they’re pretty and pay for gas. also max chats a lot when they’re alone with their partner so… get ready to not have a moment of quiet.

ali prefers driving mostly because they can only relax when they’re in charge of the situation. also they like taking care of their partner. will judge your music taste and says that the driver’s decision on anything is final.

frankie is a passenger princess who is the best person to have next to you. they’ll feed you when you drive, do anything you ask, make a fire playlist for long journeys and help plan anything that happens along the way. 10/10 bf/gf.

sam is an interesting case of born to be a passenger princess but forced to drive 😔 drives like its an audition for fast and furious and doesn’t understand why no one wants them to drive. they will always get you where you want to be on time even if your hair is a little messed up. sam’ll give u a kiss and compliment your new hairstyle.

A gasp escaped Cora’s mouth when Rosamund stepped out of the changing room. She was wearing a creme white strapless jumpsuit. The top was a silky fabric that was draped in layers.

Rosamund turned around. “Do you like it?” She asked.

“You look amazing in it. Marmaduke will be in awe as soon as he sees you.”

“That is what I am aiming for. Mama will be furious when she sees my choice.” Rosamund winked. “Now let’s see how your bridesmaid dress looks on you.”

“Oh Rosamund, this is your day. I wasn’t expecting to go dress shopping for me.” Cora protested.

“Cora I have already some dresses hanging aside for you. Please try them on.”

Cora smiled. “When you are sure. Oke let me see your picks.”

Rosamund had picked four dresses. Cora stepped out in the last one. The first three were not it and Cora did not like this one either. “Maybe, I should follow your example and not go for a dress. I bet they have suits or jumpsuits for bridesmaids too?” She looked at the shop assistant.

“We most definitely have that.” The shop assistant answered.

“Cora, Mama and Papa are going to get a heart attack when we both do not appear in a dress.”

“Isn’t that their problem and not yours?” Cora said carefully.

Rosamund laughed softly. “You are right, but what would Robert say?”

“I am going to sound harsh, but I do not care what he thinks. Your opinion and Marmaduke’s matter on this day. No one else’s.”

“Oh Cora, I love you. Thank you for being my friend.” Rosamund wrapped her arms around Cora and held her tight. “I am glad you are making sure this will be my day.”

“Rosamund, is there something bothering you?” When Rosamund hugged her, she felt it was more intense than usual.

With a deep sigh, Rosamund lowered her eyes and sat down.

“Ros?” Cora now said with worry in her voice. “What is wrong, can you tell me? Do you want to tell me?”

“We would not tell anybody before the wedding.”

“You worry me, Rosamund.”

“Marmaduke is ill.”

Cora slowly sat down on the sofa. “How bad is it?”

Rosamund was wringing her hands in her lap. “Cancer, it is cancer.”

Cora stretched her hand and took Rosamund’s.”When will they start with the treatment?”

Now Rosamund looked up, and Cora saw the desperate look in her eyes.

“Rosamund? Is this why the wedding day is this fast?”

Rosamund nodded her head.

The shop assistant came back with a colourful suit and a jumpsuit for Cora to try on.

“Hey, I was not expecting to find you in my kitchen tonight.” Robert said surprised when he got home and saw Cora in his apartment. He stepped closer and kissed her neck. “I thought you would go out for dinner with Ros. Did she find a dress?”

Cora nodded. “She did.”

“Cora?” Robert put his hand on her shoulders and turned her around. “What is the matter?”

“She asked me not to tell you.” Cora looked at the ground, and quickly looked up into his eyes. Suddenly she wrapped her arms around him and pressed her body close to his. Her hand moved to his hair.

Robert put his hands around her and kept her close as long as she needed. “You do not need to tell me. It is alright.”

When Cora looked up at him again he saw tears in her eyes, one rolled down over her cheek. Softly he brushed it away, gentle he pressed his lips on Cora’s. “Tell me about her dress.”

Cora kissed him back. “That will be a surprise. Did you already plan Marmaduke’s stag do?”

“I am thinking about it, but it is a bit early is it not?”

Cora turned back towards the stove. “Maybe you could arrange it earlier.”

He pressed another kiss in her neck. “I do not know what happened and what is wrong, but I will start planning his party. Is there time for me to take a quick shower? It is so incredibly hot outside and we went on a lunch walk. Papa said it would be good for me.”

Cora leaned her head back and smiled at him. “It is good for you, you still need to make sure you walk enough to get that last bit of healing done. Dinner will be ready in about fifteen minutes.

She sighed when Robert left the kitchen, maybe it was not the best idea to go to Robert’s house after this afternoon. Rosamund asked not to tell the family about Marmaduke’s condition. But she could have known that Robert would see it on her face. She was glad he did not press her to tell him, even though she thought he should know. It was his sister. She was glad at least Rosamund had told her, this way she could be there for her and support her.

She heard the shower running, dinner was ready. She put it on a low heat and quickly got some writing paper out of Robert’s office. Slowly her stuff was also appearing in this house, but not her stationery things. They were still at home. She preferred her apartment over Robert’s. His apartment had an incredible view over the city, but it was always busy outside. Hers was looking over the Thames River and when she went for a stroll it was quiet outside.

The shower was still running, she could finish this before he got out and went back into the kitchen.

‘Dear Harold,

Hope you are doing well. How is Mama doing? And the company?

My life here has changed a lot, as you probably realised. Robert’s proposal was the most romantic thing that ever happened to me. But I will not bore you again with that story. I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to marry him. Or at least to get married to him.

Well, that is not why I am writing this letter. I need to talk to somebody about this, and I cannot tell Robert. It has to do with Rosamund his sister and her fiancée Marmaduke. Marmaduke is ill, very ill. They are going to get married this Autumn, the wedding is arranged very quickly. Today I learned that Marmaduke has pancreatic cancer, stage four. It has already spread to his liver and lungs. Rosamund told me this afternoon that he will probably not make it till the end of this year. She asked me not to tell her family, they wanted to prepare for the wedding without everybody worrying about him. I am not sure if that is wise, but I do not have a choice and will need to keep my lips sealed. I do hope you will not tell Mama or anybody about this letter.

I am quite scared of what is going to happen. Rosamund is my friend, and I do not want to see her unhappy. And as long as nobody knows about this, I cannot do anything.

Dear brother, I am sending you a big hug with this letter and a kiss for Mama. I will wrap Robert a bit closer in my arms tonight and thank God he is still with me.

Ps. He told me that he wants children. Oh, Harold, he wants children! Can you imagine me with a little one? Because I cannot wait for Robert to be a proud daddy. Let us hope it is in the stars for us.

Cora smelled Robert’s pineapple and cedarwood eau de cologne. She looked up and saw him enter the kitchen. His hair was still wet and he was wearing light beige pants with a dark blue polo shirt. That was something she loved so much about him. He was always dressed niceley. She folded the letter in half and put it in the envelope.

“You look refreshed.” She said smiling, while she got up to serve dinner.

Robert took a couple of big steps to reach her. “I feel refreshed. I am happy you are here, I think I forgot to tell you that when I got home.”

Cora raked with her fingers through his hair. “I am happy to be here too. We should do that more often.”

Robert kissed her neck and softly bit her earlobe. “Where do you want to live?”

“I heard you had a large house somewhere?” Cora leaned her full body weight against Robert.

“I heard you are going to rebuild a large house.” He moved his hands over her stomach and pressed her against his body.

“It is an option, but let us first eat.” Cora kissed him tenderly.

Jake, Neytiri și Metkayina au pornit să se confrunte cu oamenii și să-i salveze pe copii. Quaritch îl forțează pe Jake să se predea, dar Payakan atacă vânătorii de balene, declanșând o luptă care ucide mai mulți membri ai echipajului, schilodește nava și îi taie brațul lui Scoresby. Neteyam îi salvează pe Lo'ak, Tsireya și Spider, dar este împușcat mortal de Quaritch.
