FIRST QUEST BEE-A-TCHES: '20s (?) pleated skirt

Okay, actually this is definitely not MY first quest. I have had one too many 'falling into the Google rabbithole' moments where I, at one point, suddenly "wake up", look at the clock and notice I've been spending hours on the web. (LOL The web, I love saying this*)

Anyway, an item from my latest thrifting spree is a skirt (I'll post a picture later). Maybe on first sight not a very special skirt. Maybe not even a really beautiful skirt. Something that your grandma would have in her closet from her younger days (but, personally I love #coastalgrandma). Let me describe said skirt.

It's a viscose skirt. The viscose is very stretchy and also not too thick making it flowy. It goes until just above the knee. I believe it should be low rise. The hem falls into multiple pleats. At the top there's a sort of wide 'band' consisting of the same fabric. It's about 20-30 centimeters wide, which then at each side of the hips has a stitch that's shorter than the band, about 10 centimeters, making the band fall into horizontal pleats as well. Then the print. I would not know how this print is called. I guess the main color is black and then it has - in lack for better description - watercolor kind of white, beige and lilac 'spots'. It somehow reminds me of light shining through tree branches in the middle of the night.

Don't break your head over picturing this. I'll put a picture up later.

The skirt really reminds me of the 1920's both because of the shape (straight but pleated so flowy) and the length (kneelength). Also a little voice inside my head just keeps saying 'Diane von Furstenberg, Diaaane von Furstenbeeeerg', while looking at this. My conscious mind has not an actual clue what the little voice's talking about, she knows that DvF coined the wrap dress (or did she just make it famous? I forgot). But my conscious mind is also very curious if there might be a reason she's saying this...?

So let the investigation begin.

(* if you came out of a womb more recently than I did: yeah, when I was young you would consciously go ON the internet, and then I mean you'd 'turn on' the internet, as you were paying per MB. First

So here we are. First blog post.

Having a Tumblr seemed like an edgy thing to do back when I was in high school, along with Myspace and PP2G or what have you, to display the deep side to the teenage mind and have a place to finally be your (aspring to be) emo self. However, my 15 year old self never had the guts nor the actual willpower to do so. I also never really became an emo. As far as the emo goes, I'm happy to let some dreams in the past, but not having had the edgy fashion blog has always gnawed at me.

I never thought there would be a new window for me to open a Tumblr account. Certainly not now that my 30s are coming for me. Is this a good moment for a thank you speech? No? Oh.

Might someone actually stumble upon this blog, I'll have you known: this serves as a fashion archive for me first and possible enjoyable fashion read second. Yeah. Eat that.

And, if you love fashion at least, enjoyable it will be. At least I think so. So what will we find here, on this Tumblr?

In my adult day to day life there's hardly a place for my deep love of fashion. Admitting to really love fashion in my circle is similar to admitting you have a profound intellectual love for say The Bachelor, Oreo cookies or dogshit. - Okay, yeah, yeah, I'll not fall into some pity ramble and get to the point asap. Long story short: me love fashion. Me can't express. Me is sad. Me make tumblr. What post on Tumblr? My crazy ass fashion (history) theory quests.

What kind of crazy ass fashion (history) theory quests, you say? Let me give a few examples:

I like to thrift. Often times the vintage items either are from a certain era or have a design that refers to certain era. In order to style said item mindfully I like to go on a crazy Google quest to find out the context of the item. I'm also forgetful so I forget what I have learned. This I will log here.

I might also not completely succeed in finding the particular information I'm looking for. Me want to not forget my findings and pick quest back up later. I log here.

I'm always on quest to find my aesthetic. For this I delf into fashion history to make sense of what I like and why. I log here.

I like to make connections between current trends and history. I also log here.

I like to learn more about aesthetic from certain fashion houses or designers. I log here.

I like to learn new designers, some that may not be popular or well known anymore. I log here.

From time to time I also like to learn more about non Western Fashion and her history. I log here
