By moralizing, 'you wouldn't want something unpleasant to happen to people you like', you're explicitly threatening punitive retaliation. For what? Assembly? Speech? Attempting to hold someone accountable for their actions? I know you don't THINK it's an explicit threat. But let's consider: your desire to PREVENT action is founded not on any policy, principle, regulation, or right: but the fear that someone might retaliate. FEAR. The fear that POWER won't merely be used, but INFLICTED UPON. You know who uses power like that? Fascists.

Allow me to introduce you to yourself. You're we in the biz call an acquiescent or structural fascist. here's a neat chart.

For all Milgram's flaws, one of his observations has held up astonishingly well. About 30% of people tend to max out the F-scale, and you can pick the population, it's pretty consistent worldwide. These people are the people who crave the boot. We call them bootlickers. That's over on the right side of the chart.

Now those guys are bad, but true players and playettes reserve their scorn for the people who know better. Those people who have authoritarian tendencies, but either like tocover them up, or convonce themselves that they just like when everything is 'civil'. And, to generalize, they just want everyone to shut the fuck up about it because it takes a lot of energy to block out all the bad things that are happening. You just want everyone to get along, but most importantly, be quiet.

And pal, they're out here hunting Congressmen, killing judges, they've overthrown elections, and they overthrew the US government (when fascists control the supreme court, half the legislature, and the executive will neither self-lustrate nor prosecute principal insurrectionists, that is at least 2¼ out of 3 branches and it will not get better); I don't care what country you're in because this isn't restricted to the US, the UK, Canada, it's part of a global far-right power grab.

They're not afraid of a fucking sign someone holds up outside a steakhouse. They're afraid of being called to account so strongly that THEIR OWN PEOPLE turn against them; and little shitswillers like you are FORCED to take a stand either explicitly endorsing their depravities, or reluctantly slinking away under cover of darkness and withdrawing your support at long fucking last, too late to do anything. But you'll pat yourself on the back and swear to yourself that you made a difference.

It's vile. It's reprehensible. People with pets, small children, health conditions, or loved ones should be warned about you because you're an active toxin to any polity you participate in.

Think about who you are now, and whether you're proud of yourself for standing up for fascism. Whether your children would be proud. Whether the people in your life would be proud.

I think we should try to find out when politicians are attending shit like a family funereal and protest there. We should make it a career that scares and humiliates everyone you're close to. Being in politics should not mean yachts and partying with the highest social strata. It should mean constantly looking over your shoulder and having to see a doctor about not being able to sleep. See if their behavior changes then.
