Umbran, Febuwhump: Burned
Tw: branding, pet whump, gore, burns, dizzy whumpee
Today was the day. Gabrial had put it on something called a ‘calendar’ and crossed out each day as it went by until the red circle was reached. He wasn’t quite sure what was happening today, only that it had been three months in human time.
Three months meant that the other umbrans being trained as pets got to go to a forever home. Three months meant he would either go with them or stay another season. He knew he hadn’t been broken enough to go with them.
He wasn’t as quick to follow orders but he was getting there. He still wanted things and thought the wrong things and wasn’t good enough. He didn’t fall over himself to obey Gabrial but he would do as asked when asked. He was trying.
He only feared Farix because the creature couldn’t be reasoned with.
Anxiously, he waited for Gabrial to come get him and tell him what would happen today. He only knew it wouldn’t be anything good.
After a few hours of waiting, Gabrial opened the door and commanded him to follow, not saying anything other then “Heel”.
Nox followed reluctantly, he didn’t know where they were going until they reached the dungeon. That’s when he saw Farix reaching for him. Immediately his heart dropped. He hadn’t done anything Gabrial said was wrong. He hadn’t broken any rules or attacked anyone or- anything.
If he was hurt it was undeserved and broke Gabrial’s ’promise’ at the beginning. Gabrial had said as long as Nox acted he wanted him to he would be safe. He had said Nox only needed to submit and he wouldn’t be hurt. Conditioning didn’t work if the rules established are broken.
He was half dragged half manhandled into chains, arms stretched above his head. He fought and struggled the entire time without success, even trying to break the chains and bite Farix if he could. As soon as the shackles closed around his wrists he knew he the fight was over. They could do whatever they wanted and all Nox could do was take it.
He watched as Gabrial started a fire in a fireplace and put a scrap of metal in it. It was long with a symbol at the end that he recognized as the umbran word for Ria. It was a name.
“Do you know what’s happening Nox?” Gabrial seemed almost sympathetic in his words but Nox knew that was false. Gabrial claimed to hurt him only in necessity but Nox knew the other umbran enjoyed his suffering. It was a paradox almost, umbrans were creatures of empathy, and yet Gabrial hurt him with so little thought. Couldn’t he feel Nox’s pain? Couldn’t he hear him cry?
“I don’t-“ English was still hard for him. Learning the language with his training didn’t make anything easy. “I don’t know” he wanted to ask what was happening and so many other things but he didn’t have the words. Umbrans usually communicated though emotions, chirps and purrs and trills and noises, not words.
“You’re getting branded, bran-ded” he repeated the word slowly for Nox, picking up the now hot iron poker from the fire. Nox tracked it with his eyes, tense. He knew that somehow, somewhere, branded meant to be burnt.
Nox flinched heavily and struggled as the symbol was lined up to press into his skin. He pleaded as best he could and whistled in distress. All he managed to do was strain his arms and put a smile on Farix’s face.
He started to cry out of fear. “Pl-please plea-se no-nononononononno-“ he could feel the blistering heat from the metal radiating onto his skin. He could almost tell how much it would hurt, could almost taste the agony it would cause.
Nox Screamed as the the iron pressed right under his left collarbone to leave the mark. It burned him horribly, blackening the skin and making the room pungent with the scent of burning flesh. Colorful tears dripped from his face as his skin sizzled against the iron. He choked on the smell of his own charred flesh and cried out for mercy of any kind.
This was the worst pain he had ever experienced, his nerves were alive with raw Agony. He couldn’t take it- he couldn’t- it was too much- make it stop plea-please make it stop he begged mentally, unable to form the words.
He felt breathless, then dizzy, then faint. Black was starting to creep at the edges of his sight as the iron was pulled away from his skin, causing blackened chars of flesh to stick to the metal and pull away from his chest. He was revolted and horrified and terrified of it all.
This had been planned for him from the start. From the first day he arrived here. He felt sick. His chest burned as if the iron never left him. He felt weak, swaying slightly as a wave of nausea hit him. After a second wave of dizziness his legs gave out, forcing him to hang from his chained wrists.
He tried to get his legs under him but couldn’t. He was so stressed and scared and he hurt so badly. He couldn’t take it.
Gabrial inspected the mark for a second before nodding to Farix to get him down. He was brought back to his cell and allowed to rest with nothing to quell the pain.
He just wanted to go home.

Gabrial gets a gift in the mail but when he opens it it’s just two knives that refuse to stop stabbing him and Farix
They are rather displeased by this turn of events.

I give Caretaker: A gun with one bullet inside.
Choose carefully.
Wh- do you want them to shoot Gabrial? Just like that? Pew pew? I can’t think of anyone else it would be for aside from Farix but the fish man is bullet proof.
Instead of killing anyone, caretaker keeps their moral of not doing direct damage and reducing as much suffering as they can by keeping the gun on their dresser and not killing anyone. The vampire was clever enough to know one bullet wouldn’t kill Gabrial and would just cause Nox more pain. Umbrans had thick blood that crystalized on contact with air so they wouldn’t bleed out.

Farix receives a package in the mail. Inside are one (1) jar of ocean salt, one (1) bottle of leather polish, and one (1) package of wild-caught fish. I hope he enjoys his self care day!
Farix is a gremlin and decides to crunch the half the ocean salt with his teeth and pour the other half in his pool. He’s not sure what the leather polish is for, seeing as his skin is rubbery but he tries it out. It only sorta works. He puts it down and eats the fish raw, head still attached and scales still on their body. He enjoyed the fish but he’d have had more fun if they were live, letting him put them in his pool and keep injuring them until they bled out- or just being able to eat them live. Deciding to treat himself he goes to find an umbran being trained to be a pet, happy to feel their hollow bones crunch under his foot. He loved how their bones gave way under his fists, how they would scream and cry and beg not to be killed. How he’d do it anyway, tormenting them to their last breath, his favorite part though, was how he mutilated the body after, stringing them up like a punching bag and breaking their wings. It was always so much fun to watch them bruise and then slowly stop as rigor mortis set in. He loved watching them die and ripping them apart after.

Each of your character's reaction to being presented with rose tea?
Nox loves it, he trills happily and thanks you for it!
Gabrial enjoys it, he has the luxury of adding honey and sugar to his tea and oh boy does he use it.
Farix dumps the tea out and bites the cup. He’s a trash goblin and has no taste for leaf juice.
Caretaker enjoys their tea quietly out on the porch, letting themselves enjoy the sunlight and breeze.

Farix gets a stuffed shark. It's four feet long. He can dismantle, discard, or make use of it as he pleases.
Farix puts it in the pool with him. It is unsatisfying to chew on so he just lets it float there. Eventually he gets board and decides to burn it.

I have never been more frightened by a character than I am by the concept of Farix, please be proud of yourself. Like I can see Gabrial being placated by scritchies, but Farix is freaking terrifying
Farix has no need for affection, he’d much rather feel someone’s bones break under his fist and their skull crack between his hands. He finds no greater then causing pain.

Sending Farix live fishes is like watching people feed sickly goldfish to piranhas but imma do it anyway. He gets a foam bucket containing one (1) live fish.
Farix is very pleased with your offering and immediately releases the fish into his pool and hunts it down, kills it, and eats it raw. He has a vicious grin the whole time and only wished his meals would scream when he killed them. As a shark fish person, he thinks it would be amusing.
