Reasons why YOU should watch Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

What is Dirk Gently? Let’s set the scene. Todd Brotzman, a 33 year old loser with way too many secrets gets fired from his job after discovering a grisly murder scene in the penthouse of a hotel… where everyone was murdered by a hammerhead shark. Upon going home he meets a man breaking into his apartment with a smile on his face. Dirk Gently is a psychic detective here to solve the case, and Todd is going to help whether he likes it or not.

So why should you watch it? Here’s a totally unbiased definitely neutral explanation.

1. It’s Queer!!!!!!! Canonically queer characters (and Dirk… in his own category) play big roles!

2. It makes no sense! Dirk is a psychic detective… who isn’t psychic. Not psychic at all, thank you! Why would you assume that?

3. It crosses genre boundaries! Season one is science fiction and season two is fantasy. And guess what? They go together fabulously!

4. Elijah Wood? Elijah Wood.

5. Hidden not so hidden angst. Ever wonder what being experimented on as a child can do to your psych? Look no further, everyone in this show is traumatized and it is NOT swept aside.

6. The Rowdy Three. There are actually four… no, five. No, six! The Rowdy Three are originally one of 42 government experiments who escaped their captivity, now roaming the streets looking for fear to consume and something to smash. Oh, and they’re allies. Did I mention they’re allies?

7. It’s fun. It’s really fun. Electrified crossbows, flying trains, a purple people eater and a girl in a dog’s body are really just the beginning.

8. It’s sweet. It’s just a sweet show. The relationships built and the actions taken in this show are so, so important to me. The characters (the heroes at least) take responsibility for their actions, accept consequences and try to grow as people. What more can you ask for?

9. It would make me really happy

didn't list characters working for blackwing cause they're already kinda in the villain zone as is but still welcome to choose them

i just think its interesting that most dghda characters (imo) are morally grey as is and through choice could be a good guy or bad guy depending (aka they could get worse or get better)

She loves watching the way your thighs jiggle as you walk, the way they ripple with every step always without fail has her staring

She loves watching the way your ass bounces as you grumble and struggle with your jeans, the way it's so thick it makes jean hunting hard

She loves the way your stomach folds every time you bend over to grab something, your shirt getting stuck in between the folds until you can straighten it out

She loves when you snuggle and she can use these perfect plump places as the most comfortable pillow known to man

She loves your body in a way that is infeasible to you, she loves all the folds and how much of you there is to hold

Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency is just peak aromantic representation. That's exactly how aros spend the time they don't dedicate to romance: acting as tools for the chaotic functioning of the universe, solving cases about time travel and magic kingdoms and just destroying things with their friends. Hope this helps non aro people out there to understand us better.

weirdly specific dghda headcanons:

todd and farah enjoy playing video games together and actually find it to be a great way to bond and get closer. they’re both especially fond of the game ‘A Way Out’. dirk isnt really too keen on the types of games they play, but every so often all three of them will attempt ‘Overcooked 2’ (“DIRK!!! THE BURGERS ARE ON FIRE!!!”)

tina and farah like travelling and going on road trips as dates because it combines activities that they both enjoy.

the rowdies cut each others hair. this leads to a lot more freedom on style choice and has led to some very awesome hairstyles

the agency has a whiteboard tracking the amount of weeks spent where someone hasnt needed to go to the hospital. if it reaches a certain number they get to go out for drinks to celebrate. farah introduced the idea to discourage people (dirk) from being too reckless.

dirk is scared of elevators

todd does mini concerts for his friends

shopping trips become a weekly event for the agency. sometimes its to stock up on groceries, and sometimes its because dirk has the sudden urge to buy mop slippers at 11pm (“i really cant explain it todd. must be a hunch from the universe.”)

the rowdy 3 own a hotdog toaster ARGUE WITH THE WALL

dirk finds deep pressure calming and todd and farah have become good at recognising his signs of being overwhelmed, so are always ready to give him an extra strong hug if needed.
