SUBLIME CINEMA #660 - FAR FROM HEAVEN

Todd Haynes' masterpiece feels more classic now than it did when it first was released - the gorgeous cinematography by Edward Lachman deliberately evokes 50's era technicolor melodramas in the style of Sirk, and ironically now even the look of this modern film feels like a remnant of the past. Movies simply don't look this good anymore.

Just saw that one of my moots posted a pic of Julianne Moore with the tag (in asterisk form) "sit on my face." Now that May December is out, it does my middle-aged dyke heart good to see so many younger wlws in love and lust with her. She has been in my heart and in my loins for so, so long. Ladies, she has such a deep, rich filmography. There are so many wonderful ways to appreciate her, her beauty, and her artistry: Magnolia, The Big Lebowski, Boogie Nights, Safe, Still Alice, and best of all Far From Heaven.
