Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 010: Neroids/Merpeople.
Neroids are known by their long tails, fins on their arms and back, their distinctive unique markings on their scales, and their numerous sharp teeth. Although contrary to their appearance, they are also known as one of the most peaceful, tolerant and friendly species out there.
Since humans and neroids knew of the existence of the other, there has been a close and constant collaboration and exchange between both civilizations, the apex of this relationship being the one in the Southeast Asian sea, where for centuries trade between sea and land has led not only to a feeling of closeness and brotherhood, but also to discoveries and knowledge.
Even though currencies are used to trade between species, neroids don't have a money system or economy as humans know it. Their society is based on a hierarchical structure in which each one has a specific role and function in the community. Instead of exchanging goods and services for money, neroids often barter or exchange favors.
Although they always welcome other species into their society, mainly elves and humans, neroids are extremely protective of their territories, which has kept at bay the harm foreigners could do to their environment.
It's believed that neroids may be among the oldest sapient species in the world, but due to the poor record and rapid degradation of the early days of their civilization, their origin and early history is a mystery even to them. However, there are theories and myths about its origin, but due to a lack of written records, thier early history remains largely unknown.
In this world they're just called 'neroids', but I also call them 'merpeople' on the title to make the correlation with their folkloric equivalent.

Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 007: Walking Trees.
If you ever find yourself walking alone through the woods, remember to always be cautious and aware of your surroundings. You wouldn't like to find out you've entered the territory of the walking trees.
They are blind, so they won't see you, but they do can hear your steps. -Technically they feel vibrations in the floor through their roots, but still-
They look like any other tree as long as you don't look up, walking trees have no crown, instead, where there should be leaves there is a hole full of thorns and splinters that serves as a mouth. They are tall like any tree and have long branches surrounding their trunks that they unwrap to feed themselves.
When they've sensed something nearby, they shiver, if you see a tree whose branches tremble by themselves as if it had chills, you must get out of there as fast and quietly as possible. Or try to disguise yourself with stronger vibrations from something else to stun them.
Walking trees feed on anything that happens to pass near them and fits in their mouths, that includes several forest animals, some lycans on very rare cases and, of course, careless humans.
Once they start chasing, staying silent won't save you as they'll still head to where they've heard something last.
They usually grow in groups, but are unaware of the presence of other of its kind, and are quite clumsy, so they won't attack together, each one will seek to hunt only by and for itself, something to keep in mind but doesn't make them any less dangerous.
And please. Be careful if some saplings start growing near home after an encounter, their seeds stick easily. Safe travels!

Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 006: A crude and lonely curse.
When you first get it you can't notice, you go on with your life without knowing you've started to rot on the inside, after a few days something starts to feel off, you become more irritable and isolate from others.
You can't identify what's wrong, you don't ask for help either, your heart stops working, you feel a hollow in your chest, a deep melancholy, while the colour leaves your skin, your hair and your eyes.
The blood begins to clot being inert in the veins, turning the entire cardiac system into a kind of tangle of rigid and lifeless wires.
You feel empty, you no longer need to eat or sleep, your mind falls into a void where every last drop of happiness is drained from your being, never to be seen again, your emotions start to fade, you stop being able to feel happiness, surprise, enthusiasm, love.
You become more aggressive and your body colder. At this point, there hasn't been a heartbeat in your chest for a long time.
At last, the exterior changes to match the interior of your body and soul, almost grayish white skin, long and thin fingers, empty eyes, which to look is like looking deep down into the abyss, your icy breath is the only sign of life that your body still emits.
In the end you become less than a shadow of what you once were.

Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 008: Ahuizotls.
Deep in the dark, deep in the lake, beware of the hand rising from the water.
"Horrible, blood-thirsty creatures" That's what most people who have survived an encounter with them will tell you.
Rather smart in fact, ahuizotls are aquatic canines the size of a wolf, known for centuries now for hunting humans, an ahuizotl's victim will desappear for a few days after being caught, and then their corpse with no eyes, no nails and no viscera will be dragged by the tide to the shores of the bodies of water they inhabit.
They tend to attack in packs, and use the human hand-like appendage at the end of their long tails to catch and drag their victims into the depths.
Little is known of their nature, despite attempts, as I said, they are smart, and don't like their dinner getting into their business.
They don't let anything that could be studied further behing, even if one of their kind gets sevrely injured or killed, they will put the hunt aside and their top priority will be dragging their fallen one back with them. By the way, that could be your best chance to make it out alive, even though they are immune to most defensive spells due to their thick, scaly skin. And even then, you better be prepared to say goodbye to at least one of your limbs.
The only thing you rally need to know is: don't get close to them, don't even try, you're dead if you do, and no one will be as stupid nor brave to try to rescue you.
As a side note, some gases can stun them for a while and they abhor fire, it can repel them, but it's not like you could have either of those two on hand if you're in the middle of the water, where they hunt.

Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 005: Risks and warnings about the usage of wands.
Wands are a conduit to channel magic, the core is the substance stored on the inside of a wand, the thing that allows the magic to flow through them, some wands have a gemstone at the end to help empower or counter the magical charge, exposing the wand to a bigger magic flow than the one it's able to handle will result on a core's meltdown.
Make sure to grab the wand as it's meant to, the thinner end is supposed to be the one you aim with, and the thicker end the one you grab the wand by, holding it the wrong way and casting a spell will result in the magic flow getting overwhelmed, finally causing a core's meltdown. SIDE NOTE: some special wands have a neutral flow charge, which makes them usable at both ends with no risk of harm.
Some curses and maladies of the spellcaster can affect the working of a wand when used for a long time, the core will get corrupted, which can aggravate the spellcaster's condition.
Wand's cores have a positive magic charge, thus, they will not work properly if they're used to perform dark magic, the results you may have are overall unpredictable, but may include the spell backfiring at you, negative and/or opposite effects to the one you meant to cast, and core's meltdown.
Using a wand to channel magic during long periods of time will result in a core's meltdown.
At the moment of the activation of a suppression field, if it's not contained properly, a wand in usage that is within the limits of the field can experience a core's meltdown.

Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 004: Wands.
Because you can't have a proper fantasy story without them, for some reason.
Wands are the typical and most basic tool for any spellcaster. These glorified drumsticks serve to give direction and precision, the two foundations of wand magic.
While wandless magic is absolutely performable and rather common, most of the castable spells in this way are mostly rudimentary or extremely basic. Almost all the most ancient spells that had been invented (or discovered?) don't require a wand to be cast.
They also need to be handmade to work, thus, it's impossible to industrially manufacture them. In fact, in the mid-18th century, attempts were made to create the wand-making industry on a large scale using machines, as was the case of many other things during the industrial revolutions, but none of them succeed as the customers found out these wands didn't work at all, so the art of making wands has remained an exclusive field of wandcrafters to this day.
The art of wand-making can only be mastered with lots and lots of practice, and those who succeed serve as wandcrafters to their communities, a business that never lacks clientele, since it's not uncommon for a single spellcaster to have to buy multiple wands throughout their career.
-Yup, the popular conception is that there can only be a single wand for a single spellcaster and that no other will work with them, well, in this world that's untrue-
Wands are about as unique to a wizard as a pair of glasses to a nearsighted person, (and I say that being one myself).
Yes, sure your glasses are tailored to what you need, but that doesn't mean that they are the only ones in the world that could work for you. This is the case with wands, a wandcrafter will usually have lots of them for you to try as a customer, and eventually, you'll find the one that you feel most comfortable casting spells with.
There is also the option of having a wand custom-made for you to order, but it really isn't something you have to do, and it's rather a luxury that many consider unnecessary to give themselves.

Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 003: Unhealing poison.
Just to call it something.
This is an extremely rare and dangerous poison.
The poison disables the body's ability to heal itself, which means that any damage you take, from a very little paper cut to a broken bone, will never heal. No matter how many antibiotics, bandages, and treatments you take.
Just picture a little paper cut, it bleeds, right? Fortunately, it'll stop bleeding very soon. Now picture the same paper cut, just that this time it won't stop bleeding. Never. It'll take months, a very agonizing few months, but the cut will continue to drip until eventually, you bleed out. Now you understand why this poison is so fearsome. Slow action, but the result is always the same.
It takes less than a sip for it to take effect, and it can be administrated both by inhaling it as a spray or diluted in a drink, and it can last up to months.
It is unknown if the damage taken during the effects of the poison starts healing when it wears off, both because fortunately is so rare that it's almost impossible to get your hands on enough quantity of it to be useful and because no one who got infected had survived long enough.

Drawnist's Fantasy World's lore. Entry 002: Odontophages.
These little creatures are candy kid's nightmare and dentist's jackpot.
As small as a coin, odontophages are insects that, as the name indicates, feed on teeth. But not any teeth, just the rotten ones.
As soon as the tooth begins to suffer the slightest deterioration it becomes a more than appetizing lunch for odontophages, who will make their way to the mouth and swallow the whole teeth, but they won't mind to eat more teeth in similar conditions if there are any.
They tend to go hunting at night when everyone is asleep and off guard. While they don't eat other parts of the body other than teeth, Odontophages will make their way to your teeth even if you have your mouth closed, some wounds in your lips and jaw can be found, in addition to the obvious missing of one or more teeth. Thus, treatment should be given as soon as you notice to prevent infections.
So yeah, I bet you'll wash your teeth more frequently now.
