Moussem Moulay Abdellah Amghar 2012 

One of the most important celebration in Morocco the Moulay Abdellah Amghar moussem has been organized since hundreds of years by the Dokkala tribes in the ribat of Tit (now the town of Moulay Abdellah), 9 km south of El-Jadida, in the memory of the holy Moulay Abdellah Amghar.

This demonstration dedicated to fantasias and falcon hunting demonstration is taking place over 8 days and attracts over 400,000 visitors and participants living in 23.000 tents.

Fantasia is a traditional equestrian performance practiced during cultural festivals in Morocco and occurs traditionally to close Berber wedding celebrations in Maghreb. Fantasia is an imported name, the actual traditional term used is "Game of gunpowder".

It consists of a group of horse riders, wearing traditional clothes and charging along a straight path at the same speed so as to form a line; at the end of the ride (about two hundred meters), all riders fire into the sky using old gunpowder guns. The difficulty of the performance is in synchronization during the acceleration and especially during firing so that one single shot is heard. The horse is referred to as a fantasia horse and is of the type called Barb. Gunpowder is called 'baroud', and the traditional gun is a 'moukahla', hence the name "lab el baroud" or "the gunpowder play".

Le Moussem de Moulay Abdellah Amghar est l'une des plus importantes manifestations religieuses et culturelles au Maroc. Célébré depuis des centaines d'années par les tribus des Doukkala au Ribat Tit (maintenant la ville de Moulay Abdellah) à 9 km au sud de El-Jadida, à la mémoire de saint Moulay Abdellah Amghar.

Cette manifestation qui dure 8 jours est consacrée à la fantasia et à la chasse aux faucons, attire au dela de 400.000 visiteurs et 23.000 tentes.

La fantasia désigne différents spectacles équestres traditionnels simulant des assauts militaires, pratiqués essentiellement au Maghreb, où elle est appelée « jeu de la poudre » ou « jeu des chevaux ».

Elle prend le plus souvent la forme d’évolutions équestres au cours desquelles des cavaliers, munis de fusils à poudre noire et chevauchant des montures richement harnachées, simulent une charge de cavalerie dont l’apothéose est le tir coordonné d’une salve de leurs armes à feu.
