After heading over to the garage to grab his Creature Pod, Chris ends up falling out of the Tortuga and landing in a forest where the sky seems like it’s permanently covered with clouds. Now he has to survive on his own with minimal equipment and materials while his brother and friends search for him wherever they can.

Sleepy Kratts

Summary: Just a pair of Kratts who need to sleep urgently.

It was another day at the Tortuga. The team was doing its usual tasks while the brothers were out creature adventuring.

Still working, Aviva decided to stop and turned to call her friend, "Hey, Koki!"

The mechanic turned around. "What is it, Aviva?"

"How long have the bros been out there?" she asked.

Koki looked pensive for a moment. "Hmm, it's been hours." She looked at her curiously. "Why are you asking?"

The bright look on Aviva's face turned somewhat concerned. "Well... Didn't you notice anything strange about them during these last few days?"

Koki raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"You know..." She looked around for a bit, and spoke in a very hushed tone, enough to be heard by Koki though, "Remember when they said they were going to do a challenge?"

It didn't take long for Koki to catch up, as she nodded her head understandingly. "Oh, you mean the one where they wanna find out how many days they can go on creature adventuring without getting any rest or sleep?" she said as though it were a laughing matter.

Aviva looked at her very seriously. "I don't think they were joking."

Koki's expression shifted. "Oh come on, Aviva. You don't really think the bros would do something like that?"

Aviva bit her lower lip.

Just then, they heard the automatic door open, followed by footsteps.

"We're back!" they heard two familiar voices, looking up to find none other than the guys in green and blue themselves.

They both walked in, some would say dragged their feet, and dropped their bags near the center table.

As they did so, the girls were observing their appearance and every movement; there were visible heavy, dark bags under their blood-shot eyes, it was impossible to miss. They could also tell they weren't as energetic as they usual, they were too weary to do anything. The girls were surprised they hadn't passed out already.

"Umm, bros?" Koki called out, taking a few seconds for the brothers to register that their names were being called before turning to her. They tried smiling but it seemed that even that was a whole task of its own.

"So... Are you guys done for the day?" she faked a smile, hopeful on the inside.

The question caught their breaths. "Done? No way!" Martin let out, not meaning to sound as loud as he did; the girls could sense some irritability.

"We just spotted a group of proboscis monkeys, and we can't afford to lose them!" Chris added in turn, although his determination didn't match the look of exhaustion on his face.

The girls exchanged concerned expressions.

"When was the last time you two slept?" Aviva reluctantly asked, part of her already knowing the answer.

"Sleep? Who needs sleep when you can be out creature adventuring?" Martin mused, completely oblivious to how awfully concerning his words sounded.

Aviva and Koki's eyes widened, before looking at each other.

"Come on, bro. Let's go gear up and head back out there!" Chris urged, earning a weak nod from the Kratt in blue as they made their way to the garage.

Once they were completely out of sight, the girls turned to look at each other with alarmed expressions.

"Aviva, this is serious! What do we do?" Koki cried out.

But before Aviva could respond, they heard the door open and a familiar figure entered the room; the ginger guy saw the girls and came up to them.

"Aviva. Koki. I just walked by the Kratt bros and they looked like they were about to drop dead on the ground!" he let out, genuine worry in his eyes.

"That does it," Aviva suddenly said. "We have to figure out a way to get those two to get some shut eye."

The trio stood in a circle, putting their heads together, thinking.

Just then, it was as though she had a light bulb moment. "Guys."

Koki and Jimmy looked at Aviva, smirking. "I have an idea."

When the brothers had returned earlier, it was already reaching the end of the day. So by the time they came back from the garage with the supply they needed, the sun had already began to set. The time they had taken alone showed how little energy they had left.

As they approached their bags, someone suddenly sneaked up on them from the back, startling them hard.

"AH!" they both yelped.

"Oops, sorry," Aviva said sheepishly.

"Uh, need anything, Aviva?" Chris asked, very drowsy and putting a huge yet failed effort at hiding it.

"Yes, actually," she wore a large smile on her face. Fortunately for her, the guys had too little focus to question it. "Jimmy has a creature question to ask you both."

They looked at her for a moment, before saying, "Really?"

She nodded her head. "Yep, come with me, he's in the other room."

Without warning, and taking advantage of their current state, she just grabbed them by the shoulders and urged them to the next room with ease.

As soon as they walked in, they found Jimmy already there, with his legs crossed and sitting on multiple layers of blankets and covers all over the ground. There was also a fair amount of pillows just waiting to be used.

However, before the brothers had a chance to even process what was going on, they were already pushed down into a sitting position by Aviva.

"So bros, I was wondering..." Jimmy started, giving a quick wink to his friend. "Why can't crocodiles stick their tongues out?"

The Kratt brothers blinked; it took a few seconds for the question to sink in.

"Oh, that's easy," Chris finally said, rubbing his left eye. "You see, yawn, crocodiles have a membrane that holds their tongue in place on the roof of their mouth so it doesn't move."

At that moment, Koki walked in, executing her share of the plan. She slowly tip-toed in with two mugs full of green tea, before slipping them into the boys' hands, subconsciously starting to sip the warm liquid as they carried on rambling about creature knowledge.

Aviva and Koki looked at each other and snickered quietly.

Everything was going according to plan.

"This makes it impossible for them to stick it outside of their narrow mouths," Martin managed in between yawns, slurring his words hard, having already finished his drink, followed by Chris.

"And it can be handy when snapping the jaw shut rapidly~..." Chris added, his voice trailing off.

And before they knew it, they were slipping into slumber, their heads slowly approaching one another. They were fighting to keep their eyes open for a while longer before finally giving up to their immense need to sleep. At the last second, they were starting to fall backwards when the girls caught them just in time and gently lowered their heads on the nearest pillows.

When the team looked down, they saw a pair of Kratts peacefully sleeping in each other's arms, Chris' head buried in Martin's neck, his arms wrapped around him like a child.

The girls couldn't help but coo at the scene.

Finally, they covered them up with one large blanket, tucking them in to make sure they were comfortable enough.

By now, the sunset shone through a small window and illuminated the boys' faces; Koki walked over and pulled a small curtain.

"I believe our job here is done," she said with a low yet satisfied voice, avoiding the chance of waking up the Kratt brothers.

Aviva and Jimmy nodded happily.

"C'mon, let's leave," Aviva added.

And so, they all walked out of the room, leaving the two to sleep in peace and quietude, sharing one small, cozy haven.
