Update!

Hey guys,

Just to be transparent here: as a mod I’ve come under some severe IRL issues, and I have to deal with them first. I will get to finishing this up (we’ve encountered a few other issues as well that we’re working through, namely to avoid copyright issues) in the new year. I’m very sorry about this guys, but my irl stuff has to take priority, but this book will get finished!

On a brighter note: the book is 353 pages long, with 21 stories, 2 drawn arts, and so much love and work done for this book. But we will get this done I promise you that.

Preview: A Shot in the Dark

Lance looked at her over the file. "You want us to work the Naxzela case?"

"Precisely," she confirmed. "Naxzela has been the hub of multiple crime rings. I'm sure you both remember the Galra Drug ring. It seems that another individual has taken residence there within the past few years and has set up shop. I want the two of you to find out what it is, find my missing agents, and take down this ringleader. Without killing each other."

He snapped the case file closed and stood up. "Well, if that was everything, I guess it's time to go then. C'mon, lackey," he said, heading for the door, not really caring if the other agent was following him or not.

Keith watched him leave the room before whirling around to glare at Allura. "You cannot be serious about this."

The FBI Director raised an immaculate eyebrow. "What are you going to do if I say that I am? Remember Keith, you're still on thin ice with me and the rest of the Bureau, tread carefully. Dismissed."

Growling, he stood up from his chair and clomped out the door and past Coran's desk. This was going to put him through hell and back, he knew it.

Agent Diaz was waiting at the elevator, tapping his fingers in an uneven staccato rhythm on the case file. Keith stepped up next to him and waited.

"Okay, I'm going to make this as painless as possible for both of us, so listen up, don't ask questions, and everything will be peachy, capisce?"

Keith curbed the urge to snap back. That was behind him, he wouldn't let his temper get the best of him. "Capisce."

"Good. You leave the point to me, and you can do—" Lance looked him over again before turning back to the elevator, "—whatever it is you do. Find some cyber trail or something."

The other agent huffed and shook his head, keeping his temper at bay for the moment. "Right then. Can I read the case?"

The elevator doors opened, and Lance stepped in, turning to face Kogane.

"No." And he pushed the button to close the doors while Kogane gaped at him, shocked and outraged.

"Diaz, you—!"

The doors shut and began its trek downward to the parking garage underneath the building.

Keith seethed at the door, clenching and unclenching his fists as he vibrated with a rage he didn't think he was capable of anymore. "That fucker," he hissed as he jammed his thumb on the button for the elevator again, just as his phone went off.

Pulling it out, there was a message waiting to be read.

UNKNOWN NUMBER: this is diaz. meet at this address tomorrow at 0800 UNKNOWN NUMBER: 5784 Rebel Drive, Naxzela 61958

Keith clenched his phone so hard that the plastic casing he had on it creaked. Mother fu—

He was fine. This was fine.

Mod Nick loves food, so they’re very happy to be general mod for this zine! Today's the day.

Today, Shiro is going to talk to Keith. He's rehearsed what he's going to say, he's straightened his uniform, and he knows that, according to the standard second-year schedule, he's got about twenty minutes before Keith leaves the library.

Less, if he doesn't stop hiding in the stacks soon.

"You're so lame," his roommate, Matt, informs him far too loudly (read: normal speaking volume). "Just go talk to him."

"Shh!" Shiro shoots him a glare, then looks back around the shelf. Then, on second thought, back to Matt. "I don't know who you're talking about."

Matt snorts, which is probably fair considering Shiro has maybe been talking about Keith lately. A lot. In his defense, Keith is just... really cute.

And snarky.

And fiery.

("And he could probably completely obliterate me, have you seen how powerful he is?"

"Keep your kinks to yourself," Matt mumbled into the textbook that he was using as a pillow.)

OTPLEASE Edition 1: Across the Stars

I was blessed enough to be chose by the amazing mods at the @fanficzine team as one of the contributors to this edition. I can’t wait for all of you to see it!! 

All profit will go to TPAN, a charity that supports people affected by HIV/AIDS and related illnesses.

My piece is Klance-centered; a story of how Death spared a human boy’s life and asked for his help. Here’s a preview:

Sitting down before him was a boy no older than seventeen. His hair was dark and parted into three fringes on his forehead—which really confused Lance because how could someone have three fringes? The rest of his hair was hidden under a black hood attached to a black cloak. Actually, the boy was dressed in all black, from his robes to his shoes. Lance was once again confused—why was this boy wearing only black? He looked like his cousin Lucia. His mom told him she dressed in black because she was a goth, but Lance had no idea what that meant.

His eyes were cold and distant, making Lance jittery. Something about him was wrong. He didn’t look like the older guys in Lance’s school and neighbourhood. There was something different about him. Not just different, bad. A knot formed in Lance’s throat but he pushed it down. His father had told him once he had to be a brave boy to be able to take care of his family if they ever needed him. He had to go back home. He had to go back to his mom.

“Who are you?” he asked, his voice trembling, despite his efforts to keep himself together.

“I’m Death.”

Lance frowned. That made no sense.

“Are you a goth too?” he asked. If he was like Lucia then Lance had no reason to be afraid, right?

“A Goth? What? No. No, I’m not a goth. I’m Death.” The guy furrowed his eyebrows.

“Lucia says that too. Mom said Lucia isn’t Death—she just wants attention. She also said Death is a thing, not a person. So, since you can’t be Death: what’s your name?”

The guy—Death—looked taken aback. It was something Lance was used to. Many adults had told him he was very smart for his age and needed to learn to keep his mouth shut, but he didn’t care; he liked speaking his mind. His ‘wise’ words always got him in trouble. Sometimes he wished he could just keep his mouth shut but not saying what he liked made him upset. This was one of those times. He was in a dark, scary place with Death himself and insisted on knowing his name.

“I… I don’t have a name…” Death whispered.

“What do you mean you don’t have a name? Everyone has a name! Even pets have names! My hamster is called Javier. So is my cousin. Aunt Sofia was really mad at me for naming my hamster after him but I refused to change it. They look alike!” Lance defended himself.

Death blinked. Something about his eyes made a shiver run down Lance’s spine. The air around them grew colder. His lips were sealed shut by the growing uneasiness inside him. Why was this guy so pale? Why was everything black? Where was he? Lance didn’t like this. He wanted to leave. He wanted to go home. He wanted his mom. Lance opened his mouth, ready to call out for her when Death spoke.

“I suppose I had a name once. That was a long time ago, though.” His eyes moved from Lance to a point in the distance.

Hey everyone.

Just keep up with some transpancy here, we’re nearly done round two of betaing, and we’ll be moving forward with getting quotes of the book in hard copy and working to get these out asap. 

I will make an announcement soon in regards to purchasing it either via soft or hard copy. It may not be there for Christmas unfortunately, and I’m sorry for that.

I wrote a Fire Emblem style fantasy AU, accompanied by absolutely stunning art by cover artist @zenpaipaintings! Despite the OTP in the zine name, the magazine includes gen and ship works alike. ;)

ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey all welcome to Stories from Watchpoint: Gibraltar, the Overwatch Fanficition fanzine.

A rather disappointing trend I’ve noticed as a writer is that a lot of the fanzines are swayed and weighted heavily on the side of artists. However, this time we’re going to do it with the emphasis on our fanfiction writers.

There are no pairing restrictions, and we encourage ships of all orientations and genders but we do reserve the right to refuse fics that involve topics we feel are not appropriate to the spirit and tone of this zine. 

I want a variety of short and long fics! The cap on fic length is 10K words. And all fics must be complete.

Fics can contain OCs, canon, AUs, Canon Divergent. They MUST BE SAFE FOR WORK. Rated T, perhaps M if you’re careful. Sex is completely out of the question. If you have it in your work, fade to black.

The hard copies will be available for a donation, and for a larger donation, the book will have a little personal something in it from me to you. Will let you know the prices as soon as I know how many authors I have.

I'm looking to have it printed by November, so people can have it for Christmas.

All the fics will be tagged the page before, with a little blurb about the author and where you can find more of their work!

We will have a beta team that will work to keep all the work to the same quality. 

Electronic copies will be available in the new year after people have had a chance to get their hard copies.

Official Announcement

Hey all!

Mod Soldier:76 here! 

I wasn’t expecting such an overwhelming response. Thank you all so much for your responses to this fanfic Zine. I’m going to get my team together in the next couple days to help me get this organized. 

My rough estimate time for production is as follows:

- Story submissions: August

- Completed Betas: Mid September

- Shipping: mid November

-Arrival: Christmas

Our Chosen Charity: TPAN | Test Positive Awareness Network

OtPlz: A Fanficzine for Writers will be a charity zine!

When we first started talking about establishing this zine, it was always in our minds that we would be doing it for charity. After careful consideration, we picked TPAN to be the first organization we dedicate our profits to. Any money earned in the production of this zine will be donated directly to TPAN.

What is TPAN?

TPAN is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations dedicated to educating and empowering people who are living with HIV/AIDS related illnesses. 

Based in Chicago, TPAN was established in the height of the AIDS crisis by Chris Clason. One advertisement turned into a mailing list, which turned into a meeting, and ever since 1987, TPAN has been working to make the lives of people with HIV/AIDS easier, end the stigma related to being HIV positive, and give those who were living their lives with HIV the opportunity to speak about their experiences.  How did you chose TPAN?

We knew we wanted to chose a charity which positively impacted the lives of people in the LGBT+ community, and while TPAN doesn’t work exclusively with LGBT+ people, the organization is focused on bettering the lives of those with HIV/AIDS, which has always disproportionately affected LGBT+ populations. TPAN is also an organization that is trusted in Chicago, holds many events large and small in the area, and has directly benefited friends of the founders of this zine.  Will every zine donate to TPAN?

Not necessarily. We’ve chosen TPAN for our first zine, but we are researching local organizations in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico that we could benefit in the future. Hurricane relief is often forgotten just a few months after the Hurricane has passed, when Harvey first hit, we discussed changing the organization, but decided that donating to hurricane relief in the future might have more impact after the media has stopped treating it like current events.
