I am going to overwhelm you with questions about Carrion Flowers because I initially was going to ask you one question but then I thought of another one...andddd another one. So I got 4 questions lmao.
I know you said Carrion Flowers was inspired by Sleepy Hollow with the victorian horror and mystery elements. What other things inspired you while writing this fic?
2. what was the first scene/chapter you wrote?
3. what was your favorite scene/chapter to write?
4. what was your process with the mystery and the big reveal? Did you figure out who the killer was beforehand? Did you have other plans that you were going to do before deciding on the final, but did you know the exact plot when you started writing?
Ooooh, my weird little baby. I love these questions because I have SO MUCH to say about Carrion Flowers. It really flew under a lot of people's radar, and I feel like its certainly not for everyone haha. But it gives you a glimpse into all the things that I like in fiction.
I know you said Carrion Flowers was inspired by Sleepy Hollow with the victorian horror and mystery elements. What other things inspired you while writing this fic?
I pulled from a lot of movie/tv/book references when writing it! For one, I leaned into a lot of my favorite witch stories, like Witches of Eastwick, The Craft, The Witch, Slewfoot, Hereditary, and even a little Hocus Pocus. I think if you read it closely you can see some indirect influences but also really direct nods. The incantation that the sisters use to summon the Seventh Hell King was directly inspired by the scene in The Craft when they call on to the four corners. The goat that attacks Lucien is basically Black Philip. Feyre being more feral and wild is inspired by Sara Jessica Parker's witch archetype and Elain as the more natural witch inspired by Sarah in The Craft. I could go on and on but you get the point.
In general, I love themes of Satanism and women being either pushed toward or willfully choosing to reject domineering Christianity for the sake of freedom and hedonism. And that is sort of the story I wanted to tell in Carrion Flowers.
There were also a lot of other references I was inspired from/pulled from, such as from the detective genre (Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs) as well as other horror films. But this post will be entirely too long if I went into all of them.
2. what was the first scene/chapter you wrote?
I wrote the story in order, so the first scene I wrote was the first scene in the fic, where Lucien is packing for his trip to Sunset Hollow and Eris comes to visit. I sort of used it as a means to figure out how Lucien fits into this world and what his character is like as a detective, and I thought Eris would be a good way to explore his backstory in a succinct way. I also just finished Pull Me in Deeper and was coming off a long Erixius focused time period in my fic writing, and I thought sending Eris and Alexius off in Carrion Flowers to fuck in a cottage while the events of the story unfolded was a good way to feel good about where I left them haha. Also, I will use any excuse to include Eris in things.
3. what was your favorite scene/chapter to write?
I think my all time favorite was Lucien's dream, which was inspired by this twisted little poem on Acid Bath's album Paegen Terrorism Tactics called "Old Skin". I actually listened to this album/this particular track a lot while thinking about this fic because the sludge metal genre that came out of New Orleans is so damn witchy. I try to tell people if you like Season 1 of True Detective, Acid Bath is basically the identical vibes in music form. ANYWAYS. That scene in particular was fun because I got to get very weird with it, including planting some foreshadowing for the rest of the fic as well as interlacing some of Lucien's darkest fears and memories.
4. what was your process with the mystery and the big reveal? Did you figure out who the killer was beforehand? Did you have other plans that you were going to do before deciding on the final, but did you know the exact plot when you started writing?
****BIG SPOILERS FOR THE FIC. DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED ON THE MYSTERY****
I knew when I first plotted out the story that the three sisters would be the killers and that they were doing it to summon the devil (Rhysand). I knew at the core of it, I wanted them to be the killers and that all the hopes the reader had that they were being wrongly accused was playing on your expectations of how these stories normally go. Now, once I knew that, planting the clues that would both show you who was doing the murders but also set up red herrings came through a lot of careful plotting and sometimes realizing I placed something in one chapter and needed to connect it later as I was writing/posting. So some things were developed more organically like Nesta's telekinesis powers so she could have killed H. King alone and left the pentagram on the floor under the bed. But a lot of things were determined before hand, such as the sisters collecting flesh, blood, and bone, and who it made most sense to collect each item, and trying to make their murders reflect not only call outs to canon (like Nesta beheading H. King like she did to the King of Hybern) but also how it fit with their personalities.
I would say that this fic took a lot more careful pre-plotting than I normally do, where I often let the characters drive scenes. There certainly was that also in this fic, especially scenes between Elain and Lucien, but I realized quickly that writing good mysteries is hard, and you have to be quite technical and deliberate in order to make it satisfying (which I hope I achieved).
I do want to shoutout @crazy-ache because initially I was going to fill this AU with a lot of OCs, but she basically was like "why don't you try to find a way to bring in the canon characters". Tamlin initially was not going to be in it, but I think she suggested I make him the sheriff and it worked out sooo much better. She also helped me figure out how to change the OCs I had planned to be the victims to fit with canon characters which is how we got who King, Tomas, and Ianthe as the victims. Definitely owe a lot of that to her and her beautiful mind. And just in general being an amazing beta.

30! for the Fanfic Ask Game <3
30. Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn’t.
I almost wrote a fic where Elain was going to have had dreams about Lucien since she was a little girl. So much so that her family thought she was this peculiar child with an over active imagination / tendencies to lie. Once she was a young teenager (and they were impoverished) she is convinced that a Prince was going to meet her one day and fall in love with her, consequently saving her family from their poverty. The kind of Prince Charming that seemed to perfect. Handsome, but kind. A fine, elegant gentleman but also a man that was not afraid of hard work. Loved to dance but also enjoyed time spent outside. Brave but did not relish in violence. Sound familiar?
Anyways, it died somewhere in my WIPs. I have used bits and pieces of this idea in parts of other fics.
Elain could understand everything happening with a cruel clarity. She understood the ruthless hands that had stolen her and Nesta from her beds, she understood they lived in a world where they were mere pawns to kings and queens, she understood when she tumbled out of the magical cauldron that she would never be human again, and most of all, she understood there was nothing her sister Feyre or anyone could do to save her.
Until she saw him—the male from her dreams. So achingly familiar, from his red hair, to his jagged scar, even down to the gold earrings perched along his pointed ears. Every detail already memorized. Every sharp line beckoning for her touch. It had been some time since she saw him last.
So what the fuck was he doing here?
All she could do was stare and stare and stare over Nesta’s shoulder. From across the room, his mismatched eyes slowly met hers with a devastation so intimate, she wondered if he somehow remembered her as well. If her memory somehow haunted him too.
Instead, he whispered, “You’re my mate.”
The word was not familiar, but made her shiver all the same. And when she was ripped away, she could not understand any of it. Could not understand how he was here, standing before her in his flesh. Could not understand how her body and soul already knew him and she didn’t even know his name.
But most of all she couldn’t understand why he didn’t save her.

7, 25 and 50 for the fic writers ask
Thank you for indulging me with the ask! *fignerguns*
7: post a snippit from a wip OK both of these are from the first free write so very rough!
So yesterday morning I got an idea for a fic to post in whumptober (the first fic in the AU world will be posted in july) I dunhave much yet I just kinda jotted down a few scenes that came to me first, I'm likley gonna go back and start from the begining like I normaly do when I write. “You’re alright. You’re alright.” Arthur whispered. His heart still hammered in his chest. His breathe came quick This was just the start. This was just the start of the many ways he could loose Merlin. Arthur was not prepared. “Gaius thank you” He managed to say never looking away from his sorcerer.
I also have a slightly less self-indulgent fic. I have apsolutly NO idea when you guys can expect to see this one published. Morgana should have told her, it was her right to be told. But she also understood why Morgana would keep it secret the way she had. Morgana was often alone. Ever since Gwen had became her servant when they were nothing more than girls they had had each other. Gwen grieving the loss of her mother And Morgana of both her parents. They bonded at a time when no other children seemed to care. As Morgana grew her world had become more restricted. Gwen had watched as she was shuffled into being a lady. Lessons with a sword came to a stop, except for those rare moments they praciticed with sticks together away from prying eyes. Uther had grown more strict about Morgana’s pranks until they too were taken from her. As gwen learned to be a skilled servant and seamstress Morgana was make to be less. Told to be more agreeable and obedient And yet they could never truely stfle her outbursts completely. That was something Gwen loved about Morgana too. She was wild in a way Gwen as a servant could never be. She did things her own way. And yet in doing this her own way and putting her needs first she had hurt Gwen and not told her about her brother. She had been selfish in a horrible way.
25: What is your favorite part of the writing process (world building, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing.) I would have to go with brainstorming. the first free write, and part way through revising if I don't feel its right yet. I acually almost enver outline and if I do its super vauge. As JRRM defines it I am VERY much a Gardner and not an architect. But I also have a love hate relationship with these bits because of two things. One if my writing is not always on the same level. Part of this is due to amonia brainfrog. So somtimes I look back all HOW DID I THINK TO USE THAT PHRASE . But I still write when its high when I can because I figure I'll get better at writing with it high and want to imporove all my writing skills. The secend is I tend to be very aynalitical. This tends to make the cycle of: Thinking you are good at writing>your mind develops to be better at spoting flaws but you are not good enough to fix them yet and convince yourself you are horrible>writing level up. Go pretty fast for me. It causes whiplash at times.
50: How would your describe your writing style Well not heavy on enviormental description, thats likley my greatest weakness. I think writing Emotions, Humor when it fits, and getting inside charatrers heads are my strengths. And some banger lines.
Feel free to ask me stuff these are from here!

8. What project(s) are you currently working on?
My Sherlolly Screamfest fic! I'm nearly done with the editing. I should post it this weekend.
I've also been working on Chapter 4 of His Constant, as well as editing a few short fics.
10. Is there a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
I wrote this really angsty Jate (from LOST) fic nearly 10 years ago. It had a bit of an emotional whiplash effect. But someone on FF.net ignored all that and lectured me about the events' effect on a fictional child. Which is fair, especially because I'd still been green as a writer then, but it just surprised me that they ignored the shippy part and focused on the child character.
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?
Already answered here!
Thank you for the ask!

W, F, G for the fanfic ask game 🥰🥰
Thank You BP for the questions! Fanfic Ask Game come ask me some questions! <3
W: Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?
I actually like both! For example if I have writers block specific prompts/req. help because it sort of pushes me along the road since I already have the main idea. Whereas when writing with a more general prompt would be when I'm feeling super creative nd I have a bunch of Inspo.
F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
Oh jeez uhm... I don't have a favorite dialogue snippet but I do have a favorite fic which would be the first date and or Do it for more. I love The first date because it was inspired from a first hand experience and I just enjoyed watching someone fall in love at first sight, and being able to share that experience with everyone on Tumblr its just exciting. And for Do It For More I love that fic because it's such and emotional and raw story. I didn't say anything in the A/N for that story but when I started writing it, I was in a very dark mentality and everything just seemed to be going bad. But eventually I was able to overcome it and I feel like I took all of my negative emotions and converted it into Do It For More.
G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
Sometimes I do both lol. Depends with my emotions/train of thought. I don't have a preference but when I have a Bunch of Inspo then I write the story start to finish in one sitting. But when im just like prancing around the keyboard I just write little snippets and like combine them into one fic. Like for Stages I did snippets and then just put them together like a puzzle.

Hiiiii!!! Long time no see!!!
💞 what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language
For me the characters are always the most important, how I'm gonna make people invested in any world or plot I write if I don't get invested in the people who are living in it?
Sometimes I may care so much that I constantly write and rewrite sentences until I finally feel like "yeah this is something x character would think or feel or say"
🎀give yourself a compliment about your own writing
Well, I think besides the smut, when I re-read my own fics (to remind myself of certain things lol) is that I come across dialogues or interactions that I'm like "wow, I actually came out with THAT?! Good job past me" because yeah, there has been entire scenes and whole fics I've scrapped off because I exhausted myself and wasn't "feeling" the main characters interactions.
Send in an emoji and I'll answer a question!

4. total number of words you wrote this year - oh, idk how accurate this number is but holy shit... apparently 195,951 total number words across a number of works
12. favorite character to write about this year - logan, logan, logan!!! 💙💛
14. a fic you didn’t expect to write - chance encounters with our triple frontier boys... it was such a very cathartic experience for me, but also so very tough to write because how personal it was.

😂 🙅♀️ 🗑 🏅 💡 ❤️ 🤔 💕 (don't mind me asking all the things. xD)
hihi! thank you so much for the ask, im sorry it took me a while, i had a weird night and a even weirder morning 😭
😂 : what's the funniest comment someone has left on a fic of yours?
i had to go through practically all of my fics to find one lmao, i think one i remember laughing at was from part 1 of CIAFOM where someone commented "bruh i haven't finished the fic but the second i got to, "Marc was vibing." BRUH WHY IS THAT SO FUNNY-" i remember liking that bc i was just happy someone liked the fic but im sure there are other comments that are funny too
🙅♀️: what is one trope you refuse to ever write?
uhhh i'll never write incest? im not a huge fan of non-con. im blanking on tropes as i type this lmao
🗑: what is one fic idea that you loved at first but then scrapped?
oh so many :/ i've paused CIAFOM bc i didn't like the direction i took the story. one that had been all written and ready but i hated how i had done it was a Camelot!AU where reader had to choose between different suitors during a masquerade ball but if i recall there was also like an invasion happening idk i just wanted to describe pretty ballgowns and have a 'who are you gonna pick' type situation
🏅: what is the fic you're most proud of?
either way down we go bc i wrote that when i was at my lowest inspiration wise and confidence wise and people actually liked it or burnt toast and vodka bc in my mind that's exactly how i would act in the marvel universe
💡: whats the weirdest thing you've ever been inspired by?
church sermon 😁 it was about sodom and gamora
❤️: who is your favorite character to write for and why?
it depends on what fandom! i love writing for Agatha and Yelena in marvel, Daniel jackson in stargate, mick rory and barry allen from the CWDC, and it all boils down to if 1) i see a part of myself in the character or 2) im attracted to them
🤔: what is one genre you've never written that you'd like to try?
science fiction? in both fic and my personal writing ive kinda avoided it bc im not that smart when it comes to technology and i feel like i would really make the fiction part stand out in the genre.
💕: what is the WIP that you are most excited about?
im working on an ambessa (from arcane) x reader fic rn that im excited about and then i have a few agatha ideas im working on that i hope will turn out ok!
thank you!! also i love that you asked a lot dw 🫶🏻

Pathetic Man Phil: Modern AU emduo-focused fic where i basically put Phil through it and then force him to chose to heal no matter what he may want personally. looking to be a 40,000 monster at the moment but hey deep-seated problems do not heal themselves
2nd chapter of That I Could Fear a Door: AU fic with emduo where i once again put Phil through it but he has wings children and 20+ years of slavery-associated issues this time
4th chapter of Et Crescemus Iuxta: you guessed it! It's emduo again but this time Techno's the one with most of the issues and Phil is a littol boib. just a birb. just a bebe biorbo. fluffy.
2nd chapter of Bummerland: longfic and shock and horror it's Tommy this time. foster AU with very haphazard bits of accuracy thrown in surrounding how courtrooms actually work. featuring all your favorites plus Kristin. she's alive this time. to everyone's shock and horror.
That One "Oh No" Soundbyte: Techno and Tubbo canon-compliant oneshot that was supposed to be a for a challenge but that did not work out. It's tubbo having a hard time and Techno isn't demonized but he's not really sorry for what he did and it's a Time
Is It Too Late for Mermay?: it's emduo again and this time it's emduo having problems with each other send tweet. what more do you want to know. you could ask. i'd talk about it.
whatever chapter of Santuary: Oldie and not even a goodie but i want to finish it. All the AUs and we mainly pick on tommy but I am pansexual with the hurt in this fic i'll hit anybody with a stick. and i do. i also stab them.
"kick-in-the-pants" writer's game!

Hello ACOTAR fanfic writer! This fanbase appreciates your creativity and passion for these characters and ships, and you did such an amazing job with writing this year! The year is coming to an end, and I wanna ask:
What is your new year’s resolution for writing?
What are some of your tips for fanfic writing?
What was your favorite thing you’ve written this year?
Feel free to send this to your favorite fellow writers to spread the love and new year’s cheer🎉🪩
Awww, thank you anon! This is so fun and you are so sweet for putting this together.
What is your new year’s resolution for writing?
Hmmmm, I think overall keeping up with my same pace/progress and following my inspirations, regardless of what ship or type of story that is leaning towards. I'm not a big person on hard lines for resolutions. But I think overall I want to be more mindful of focusing on my successes with writing.
What are some of your tips for fanfic writing?
-Write it, even badly. Having something written is always better than nothing, and you can always write better in the edit. Bones help more than a blank page.
-Don't talk yourself out of something before you actually try it whether it's thinking you aren't skilled enough or that no one will like the idea. I have written plenty of things that got little attention to those that were fairly well received/popular. And I can tell you, some of the things that gave me the most joy are things that totally flew under the radar and were also things I never thought I'd be capable of writing. So take those chances.
-Engage with fellow writers. Read their fics. Comment on them. Writing fanfic especially is not meant for being experienced in a vacuum. One of the best ways of getting better at your own writing is not being afraid of reading others and learning what you like in their writing and identifying where you can improve. Plus, writers supporting other writers is just a great way to build community.
What was your favorite thing you’ve written this year?
-I answer this in an earlier post today and said it was Pull Me in Deeper. But since I'm being asked again, I'll give another answer and say Carry You Home. I think it's a really great one-shot and totally captures a full romantic story for Eris and Alexius within a short story.

What makes you feel most accomplished when writing fics?
Finishing the fic. And then later sharing it and getting feedback. (I LOVE FEEDBACK it helps fight the bit of my brain that is constantly trying to sabotage me) Talking to my beta's helps a lot too because they can help encourage as well as point out things I missed. This makes the fic better. OR occasionally I will have a scene in mind and If it either writes perfectly or the characters completely change it in a way I did not expect but love. OR hitting my word goal a lot in a week. OR losing myself in a scene so much I go over accidentally by 500 words at least Or when I convince myself my writing is horrible and so is the plot and I read or scan back over it and go "hey this is not as bad as I thought." SOOOO Um... A lot of the process?

7. How many ideas for fics do you have right now?
I have a total of 155 fic ideas listed somewhere. But that number includes the ones I've completed and covers several fandoms. Of course I also have fic ideas I haven't written down yet.
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?
All about pregnancy and early parenthood for my first multi-chapter work. Also, I once spent a couple of hours on the UK university system for one line on a fic. (I don't even remember what fic that was for anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
25. Have you ever upset yourself with your own writing?
Yeah, with Your Worst Fears (the multi-chapter mentioned above), I had to write an ugly fight between my ship in Chapter 4. I was crying when I was outlining, writing, and editing that chapter.
I also wrote a really angsty fic (Save Me) on one of the worst weekends in my entire life.
I also hurt my own heart while writing and editing the break-up scene in Even the Rain Can’t Wash Away Our Problems.
Thank you for the ask!
