AO3 is a cool site, fujoshis are fine people, but if I see more post about how AO3 is the pinnacle of LGBT community because majority of the fics are "m/m" while only having 10% male users, then praising it because it has low "m/f" content, yet not talking about how the "w/w" content is under 10% (for a site run by queer women), my dude, please... stop... we all know how lesbian porn for men is not LGBT content right, even if bisexual men is into it..

Look I get that, it's frustrating that there aren't that much f/f on AO3 and this has multiple reasons why.

Some say it's because of how female characters are written in a lot of shows and films: they aren't as "complex" and "grey" as a lot of male characters. (There are exceptions but still) Lot of female characters are still written as "badass and can do her own thing, and can do nothing wrong" type of girl. You know these "'We need more morally gray and complex female characters!!' You couldn't even handle [insert morally grey and complex female character]" type of posts? Because I do, and whenever there's a fem character like this, people spew venom at that character and at her fans and call her "evil!" There's not enough juice in a lot of them that would give the spark to write about them.

Or when there would be then comes the problem that a lot of w/w fans have this purity culture belief that f/f must be pure and wholesome and fluffy. You want to write the dirtiest most depraved f/f smut where the characters are toxic with each other and then post it? Then buckle up, you will get tons of death threats because "how dare you write these angels like that you filthy pig!!!!"

A lot of women also can't just write f/f because it feels much more personal. Especially when it's about smut: it hits too close to home for them, they feel uncomfortable by this. With m/m they can distance themselves from the story, the happenings and characters they write. The death threats too feel much more personal when they get them for f/f fics.

AO3 was made by m/m loving queer women sooo of course there would be more m/m on it. And that two guys boning each other is hot for a lot of women. Just like hot f/f for men.

All these points were something I read on olderthannetfic's blog where anons sent all these things to explain why they don't write f/f.

4921 Like someone in the comments pointed out, most kids nowadays are lacking in "safe", kid oriented places online so they all end up funneling into 13-to-dead age range places, and those are usually social media with tons and tons of adults. I agree that's probably part of the reason so many adult (even if not SOLELY adult) spaces are being coopted by kids. It's a shit situation. The only solution is having more kids spaces again, and making them popular. Otherwise, IDing people. Which, nothx.
