Remember me? - Lin Yanjun (masterlist)
Tumblr media
When they first met, Lin Yanjun was a flirty but shy literature major who one day took y/n’s notebook by mistake. However, their time together was cut short the moment he became a member of China’s biggest boy group.
Two years after they disbanded, Nine Percent reunites again for an anniversary comeback. The boys grew up and their fame grew with them. Even y/n created a path of her own becoming the number one stylist in the asian fashion industry.
So when the group desperately needs someone to style them for their final comeback, fate decides it’s time for the two to meet again. But how do you reach out for a love that you chose to let go of?

9% as Common College Majors
(A/N: This has been sitting in my drafts since before I even created this blog so I figured I would play around with the idea a bit more and finally post it!! Let me know if you want to see more of these “9% as...” or if I should just stick to fics lol ^^ I hope you enjoy it~ <33)
Masterlist
- Photo(s) Source : Google -
Cai Xukun - Photography
Tumblr media
I just have this vision in my head?? Of like xukun holding a camera and building this vast portfolio of aesthetic greatness
I mean he’s already so aesthetically pleasing and has an amazing insta feed so is it really that much of stretch??
Is like that one kid on campus who’s always around
Party at the frat house? He’s the center of the show
Charity event at campus square? weLL guess who decided to show up???
Definitely hella popular and totally has a fan club
Gets teased about it by all his friends
He secretly thinks it’s really cute though
Chen Linong- Animal Biology
Tumblr media
Nongnong with animals
What a concept amiright
But anyway he’s such a sweet and caring ball of sunshine and I think that would really show through in the way he cares for and loves all of the animals he works with
Really interested in learning about different types of animals and how he can improve their quality of life!!!
I now have the picture of vet!nongnong in my head and it’s so adorable omg
Linong with that dog?? Ugh my heart can’t handle this cuteness
There was this gifset of him with a cat on my dash a while back and now I need to dig it out of the depths because ughhhh it was so cuteee
Fan Chengcheng - Journalism
Tumblr media
Alskdosos this one was hard
I can just imagine him staying up, furiously trying to write and make his deadlines
Also I get that Agent J was a spy concept but it gave me investigative journalist vibes so here we are
Definitely procrastinates on all of his assignments
Highkey jealous of Justin because his major seems “easier” and he doesn’t have to write as many essays and stuff
bOI you are literally a journalism major ok that means WRITING
Justin - Theater
Tumblr media
Ok I know that ruibin is the true theater kid of idol producer but
Can you imagine Justin prancing around on stage reciting like Hamilton or something (can you tell I don’t do theater at all)
(I have no idea what I’m talking about)
Anyway him trying to sing the songs would be hilariously great
And I think he’d actually turn out to be an amazing performer?? Even though he probably only chose to major in theater because he thought it’d be easy or something
He grows to really have a passion for the stage and looks forward to every performance
Aims for the lead role like every single time; usually ends up getting it, too
Totally steals the spotlight and is the star of every show ✨
Lin Yanjun - Marketing/Advertising
Tumblr media
I was so tempted to say English since that was his actual major (I’m pretty sure)
But then I remembered than one scene in ip when they were like “selling” the ice pack or smth?? It was in one of those unreleased extra content footage compilations welp now I gotta find it again
Actually I can’t find it so nvm but I remember seeing it for sure!!
(Literally this whole thing is me trying and failing to find gifsets someone please help)
Also,,,,
If Lin Yanjun was tryna get you to buy something, would you really say no??
All of his professors probably love him
Has like a 100% in practicals with his winks and flirting
Even though he’s hella confused and never has any idea what’s going on
Probably models for xukun on the side for extra cash too the boy can do it all
Zhu Zhengting - Dance
Tumblr media
Literally the only one that I was 100% set on
I mean come on
He’s like the dancing king of 9%
Can do basically any genre of dance, from modern to hip-hop
Would be super dedicated
Lives in the college dance studio tbh he practically never leaves
BFFs with the other dance majors like zeren and chaoze
They always hang out together and are definitely the type to break into an impromptu dance sesh in like the middle of starbucks
Or some equally random location
Is part of the committee that organises weekly dance mobs on the campus square
He definitely drags Justin and Chengcheng to almost every one
Wang Ziyi - Nutrition
Tumblr media
Very healthy bOI,,, a fit boy too
That bag scene where they were like going through what was in their bags?? Didn’t he have juice or smth he just seems vv health-obsessed
also sorry the gif is a weird size
Had like a literal DRAWER of supplements, vitamins, and medicine under his bed during ip,,, I’ll let that speak for itself
Also seems really chill and nutrition gives me a chill vibe for some reason
Probably has the best grades with the exception of yanjun’s charming practicals
Probably is also the only one who actually studies for finals
Xiao Gui - Film and Video
Tumblr media
Nearly majored in nuclear engineering for the lols but then realised he didn’t have the grades to make it into the program
Also didn’t feel like doing science
So xingjie convinced him to go into film
Which at first he thought he would hate, but he actually turned out to quite like
Xingjie does musical production and sometimes makes little soundtracks to go along with gui’s mini-films
Lowkey the only thing that keeps linkai’s grade from bombing is the humor that’s always mixed into his scripts
Rlly funny
Also totally the type to waltz into class like half an hour late can anyone see this too or is it just me
You Zhangjing - Vocal Music
Tumblr media
I sort of see zhangjing going into the sciences for some reason??
Erin - who’s the local yzj expert around here - sent me this photo a while ago?? (I just saved it from there so the size is weird again oops)
Tumblr media
And I get that he’s supposed to be a “doctor” or something in the photo but it’s a lab coat ok
He looks really good akdjdksjsj
And he mentioned in that interview that he did accounting before going to China to train
So that could be an option too
Maybe he did that for a bit but then didn’t end up enjoying it so he switched majors? Idk
Anyway I chose vocal because obvs our nasi lemak can sing very very well
And he loves singing very very much
So he would major in it!!! Ok I lied about Zhengting I was also like 100% sure on this one
Plus I mean it’s common knowledge that he’s talented af so like,,, there you go
All his vocal teachers probably love him a lot
But can you really blame them?? Like he’s so hardworking and talented, so who wouldn’t love him + his awesome vocals? 💕

When are we eating haidilao(hotpot)?
Tumblr media
Summary:
Usually mystical powers happens in movies, books, internet and extera. This time, it doesn’t just happen in fantasy. It happens in real life.
On the outskirts of China, near the mountainside, a lab was conducting an experiment on what you would call them 'demons', they call them 'psyclones'. They're grey smokey blobs that can change into anything they want. When I mean they, I mean the psyclones. They have high intelligence that not even the scientists know about. A few of them, tested out the scientists to see if they can catch on on how much smarter they are compared to the scientists. One of the scientists finally caught on and conducted an experiment that created a phenomenon in China......

How Should It Be - Xiao Gui/Wang Linkai One Shot
[a/n: ah yes back at it again with another cringey one shot. i meant to post this on 5/20 but i couldn’t get my brain juices to work and finish it until tonight. i hope you guys like it. big reminder that i love wang linkai ❤️. sorry if the fic is a mess btw lol.] / master list
He sags down in his seat, visibly defeated by whatever was on his mind. A pout is prominent on his lips as his best friend cracks a smile, clapping him on the back before wrapping his arm around him, their bodies crashing together.
“Why the long face, Gui? Don’t you know that frowning gives you wrinkles?” he asks. If Linkai wasn’t so down in the dumps, he would’ve smacked the exaggerated frown right off of Chengcheng’s face right then.
Fan Chengcheng has never been the kind to just let Linkai live in his misery. Oh, no. Fan Chengcheng has to twist the knife after he stabs you. Sure, the guy’s quiet when you first meet him. But once you get to know him the way Linkai knows him, it’s a done deal. Your soul is his and there’s no getting rid of him.
“You saw my butthole once, Kai. We’re practically blood brothers now.”
Don’t ask. Linkai is begging.
“Nothing,” he shifts back into the ratty couch. He thinks for a second about how Xingjie is always babbling on and on about how he should replace it (as if Linkai has the money to replace this old hand-me-down couch. He’s a soundcloud rapper. How much does Xingjie even thinks he makes off of his beats?). Something about how just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it’s vintage. Linkai thinks that maybe the spring that pops out of the second cushion of the faded blue sofa may have caught Xingjie by surprise one too many times. That’s why Linkai always sits on the arm rest or lays like a starfish on the floor during movie nights. You’ll never catch him squished in the middle of Yanchen and Xingjie on their Thursday night Grey’s Anatomy marathons (per Yanchen’s request because how could one look at the actual sun and say no?).
He’s picking at the frayed edge of the sofa when Chengcheng says, “It doesn’t look like nothing.” He suddenly snaps, reaching into his pocket before pulling out a pair of his (nonprescription) glasses. He pushes them up on his nose then opens his phone to his notes. Linkai sees him type “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH GUI TODAY” and watches him not only put it in bold print but italics as well. “I think we should start a diary of some sort. My sister has one of those and she says it’s all a part of a healthy life style. Wait, should we buy a Password Journal for you? Okay, wait Chengcheng. Too far off track. Let’s focus on the now.” He recomposes himself before saying, “First of all, do you know your rising sign? It could help explain a lot of things.”
Linkai thinks that there’s a reason for everything. He thinks that you never meet a person by mistake. But sometimes...he has to question his life mottos as Chengcheng waves his hand and tells him he’ll make his birth chart from scratch, all he needs is the time he was born (because Chengcheng’s already memorized that he was born on May 20, 1999 in the Fujian Province).
“Chengcheng, I promise on my mother that I won’t judge you. Just tell me if you were dropped on your head as a baby or not.“ He’s desperate at this point. There’s no way somebody just wakes up and makes the conscious decision to be Fan Chengcheng. Not any sane person, that is.
“Astrology is a very serious science, Gui and I will not stand for your bashing!” Chengcheng whines.
Likai gives him side eyes. “Didn’t you only get into astrology because Justin said you were a Gemini and he liked that?”
“No!” But the blush rising on his cheeks says otherwise. “Look. This isn’t about me! This is about you! What’s your deal?”
The older one shakes his head, throwing himself back against the couch and hoping that the weird stain to his left would manifest into a blackhole and swallow him hole. He crosses his arms and taps his shoe against the ground, eyes glued to the ceiling popcorn and wondering who the hell even thought that shit was cute. He starts to wonder how much he could pay Chengcheng to eat it when the doorbell rings.
“I’ll get it,” Chengcheng says. “I’m expecting a package!” As he gets up, he throws a cushion at his roommate before hopping away.
Linkai shuts his eyes, too exhausted to even fight back. Maybe it is his package. Maybe it’s Justin. Maybe they have another “date” in Chengcheng’s room (it’s not a real date if Justin doesn’t know it’s a date).
He’s about to drift to sleep when another cushion hits his chin, causing him to bite his tongue.
He’s on his feet and ready to throw hands when his eyes land on (a very pissed looking) you.
Honestly. He’s not surprised. You have this sour face all day and all night and it’s to the point where he’s starting to consider having Chengcheng put together your birth chart so that he can understand just that much more about you.
He crosses his arms. “And what is the problem today, princess?” he raises his eyebrows. He leans down, teasingly close, and wrinkles his nose. “I was just thinking about you.”
“Don’t look so stressed,” you scoff. He pokes your forehead, causing you to stumble back a couple of steps. “Hey!” you whine, rubbing the spot. He can just hear you screaming in your head about how he has dirty finger nails or how his hands are always so cold and boney. You huff. “You’re gonna give me a headache.”
“You give me a headache every time you walk into the room,” he shrugs, pulling back. He throws himself onto the couch again and hears the floor rattle beneath him. Another complaint that you’ll throw at him is how he and Chengcheng should just move out of this ratty old place. (“And go where exactly?” “I don’t know! Go live with Zhengting! I heard he needs a roommate!” “You want us to live with Zhu Zhengting? He’ll be on China’s Most Wanted after he kills me and Chengcheng.”) You roll your eyes instead. “But go on. What did your best friend Wang Linkai do to piss you off today?”
“We had a lunch date!” you stomp your foot.
“A lunch date?!” Chengcheng repeats as he exists the kitchen, choking on the piece of bread he had shoved into his mouth. “You two go on dates?!”
Linkai snorts. Ever since Chengcheng found out the story of how you and Linkai met, he’s been begging for you two to fall in love. (“You met in college when she dropped her books and you helped her pick them up? Fingers lingering, eyes glazing over. Love blooming like spring cherry blossom-“ “Chengcheng, shut the actual hell up. I only helped her out because I’m not an asshole.” “Not an asshole? Have you met you?”). Chengcheng says that he’s read a lot of fan fictions. He knows how this will turn out. Apparently, he’s taking bets alongside Chen Linong and Lin Yanjun as to when you two will finally get together. But jokes on them because you are denser than a book.
According to Chengcheng, it’s not your fault because apparently Linkai has terrible game. His idea of flirting with you is to flake on you half the time, watch you get riled up then pat your head and walk away after you get done ranting to him. Linkai doesn’t call that game. He calls that tolerance because some of this shit you put him through makes his head spin in circles. Plus, he’s got an image to uphold. Xiao Gui AKA.IMP cannot go around braiding flower crowns and singing to the birds like this is some kind of Disney film. He’s still trying to live down that time Xukun posted a picture of him coloring in a coloring book on his instagram story (Ziyi still sends him children’s coloring books every holiday since. Whether Linkai fills them out or not is his business and his business only).
He thinks today is going to be a bad day. He thinks it’ll be one of those days where the two of you will fight to no ends and there’s literally nothing he can do to make you feel better. He hates to admit it but he likes those kind of days because they always end with the two of you laying in his bed. Those are the nights he’ll hold you and wipes your tears, whispering a mantra of “Yes, I’m an idiot” and “I’m sorry, it’s my fault for not cherishing you.” He likes those nights because even though you get on his last nerves, he’ll be willing to admit defeat if that means he’ll get to wake up with you beside him.
“Honestly, Linkai. I don’t even know why I try with you sometimes,” you groan, setting down the bag of food in your hands onto the coffee table with one too many water stains. “Chengcheng, come join us for lunch.”
“Oh, I don’t wanna intrude on your date,” he says.
You smile at him. “It’s not an actual date.“
There’s a weird look on your face as you say that. It’s a look you get that Xiao Gui has never been able to read. Your smile is big but your eyes never seem to match. Your shoulders visibly sag and your movements slow for a second before you seem to realize what you’re doing and get back to being normal. “Come!”
“No,” Linkai plops down on the floor next to you. “He has a lab with Justin due at midnight tonight. He needs to leave.”
“Hm? You keep tabs on me?” Chengcheng has a shit eating grin on his face which quickly disappears as Linkai scoffs.
“No. You’re wearing cologne for once and don’t look oily. From just that, I know you’re going to meet Justin,” he says. “You usually smell like terrible B.O. and your hair looks dry. As for your project, you have it written on your calendar inside of a big red heart. I saw it when I went to steal the five bucks from your dresser earlier.” Chengcheng sputters, face red with embarrassment.
You swat Linkai’s shoulder. “Leave him alone,” you frown. “Don’t worry about him, Cheng. You always look and smell great to me!” you grin encouragingly before turning back to Linkai again to whisper yell. “He has a crush. Don’t tell me you’ve never gotten dressed up for somebody you liked.”
“Hey!” he says louder than you expected considering this was supposed to be a hushed conversation. “I’m wearing the jeans you said make my ass look fat,” he retorts. You simply roll your eyes before returning to Chengcheng. Once again, you’ve reminded not only Linkai but the world that you are denser than a book. He makes a face. “You expect me to read your mind and yet you never seem to be able to read mine,” he mutters under his breath, forcefully stabbing into his rice.
“What was that?” you turn back to him. He shakes his head, shoveling a load of food into his mouth to keep you from pressing. You thankfully don’t and once again, turn to Chengcheng. “I think you look amazing. Really. Go get him! He’ll be in your arms in no time!”
“Thanks, jiejie!” the dopey boy grins. “I’ll be on my way then. Be back tomorrow morning. Don’t have too much fun while I’m gone!” he winks. He’s out the door before Linkai can kill him (as if Linkai even had the energy to do so).
He’s too busy dissecting his meat to notice your cold stare. You have to clear your throat for him to look up and see your face. He groans, “What the hell did I do now?”
“You should be more supportive of Chengcheng.”
“More supportive? Any more supportive and I might as well just text Justin and say ‘Hey dinghead! Chengcheng is in love with you!’” he scoffs. “Honestly, it doesn’t get any more supportive than me.” He’s actually offended that you don’t think he’s all for Chengstin. Linkai is the vice president of the Chengstin fanclub, only coming second to You Zhangjing. “Who do you think always makes sure there’s ice cream in the fridge when Justin comes over? Who do you think hops off our shitty ass wifi when Justin comes to watches movies? Who the fuck ran across town just to fight with sneaker heads to get Justin the newest pair of shoes because Chengcheng was stuck in class? Have you ever had to fight a sneak head, YN? Have you?” His eyes are wild as if he’s seen some things he’d rather not talk about.
You sigh. “I just think you need to be nicer to him,” you shrug.
“Last week you told me not to let Chengcheng step all over me,” Linkai points his chopstick accusingly at you.
“Because you were deadass tired and up doing his laundry while he slept!” you exclaim.
Linkai snorts. You’re honestly a walking contradiction when it comes to him. “Just eat and be quiet. I’ve already got a headache. Don’t make my stomach upset too with all of your nonsense.”
“It’s not nonsense, Linkai!”
“If it’s coming from you, it is.” He shuts his foam to-go plate and stands to his feet before you could give him another earful. “I’m gonna go get a drink. Want anything? Water? A soda? A shot of vodka?”
“Ten more minutes with you makes the last option sound more appeasing than it should,” you pinch the bridge of your nose.
“Nobody is forcing you to be here,” he reminds you, patting your head as he walks away. When he returns, he’s made two pretty drinks and winks at you. Bottoms up, his eyes say.
“Really? Drinking on a Tuesday?” you scoff.
“Whether it’s a Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday night, you will always find a reason to complain,” he replies. You roll your eyes, taking a sip and feeling the alcohol burn down your throat. You grimace before setting it back down on the table. “So what do you wanna do now, hm? Watch a movie? Make me watch you online shop?”
“Maybe I could put make up on you and do your hair,” you suggest.
It’s his turn to roll his eyes. “You say that everyone elses’ boy friends do this for them and yet, I feel as though I’m the only one.”
“Boyfriend?” you repeat, completely disregarding anything else he had said.
“Boy. Space. Friends,” he says before leaning back onto his hands. “Why? Do you wanna remove the space in between us?” he wiggles his eyebrows before swooping in close to you, noses bumping. You freeze at this. “What?” he smirks when you don’t push him away like usual. “You actually thinking about kissing me this time?”
You scoff, shaking your head and moving away from him. “Wang Linkai,” you scoff again. “You really are something else. You know that? Kiss you? My best friend? I’d rather eat sand or-“ You stop, looking at him and seeing the way his eyes cast down for a second. “What?”
He looks back up. “Nothing,” he says before pulling himself to his feet again. He stretches his arms over his head and yawns. “Come. Let’s go shop. Or something. I don’t know.” He shakes his head and reaches for his drink. Maybe he shouldn’t have poured so much alcohol into his drink. One sip and he’s already a mess. “What?” He notices you still haven’t moved from your spot on the floor. “Hurry up and put on your jacket. Or do I have to so it for you?” He makes a swipe to grab your arm but you pull back, holding it against your chest. “YN, what?” he sighs, a bit annoyed. “Are you mad at what I just did? Look, I’m sorry. Let’s just-“
“Linkai,” you frown. “Why do you look so sad?”
“It’s nothing,” he replies, walking around and looking for his keys.
“It’s doesn’t seem like nothing to you.” Your words are careful, almost as if you’re trying to find the right wire to cut in order for the bomb not to explode. It’s always like that when the two of you argue this deeply. And sadly, it always ends with somebody crying.
“Because it’s never anything to you!” he throws a hand down dramatically. “So like. Let’s go because I’m not going to do this today!”
“Do what today?” you ask, standing to your feet. He shakes his head and makes it towards the door when you grab his arm. He instantly spins around and pins you against the wall, arms encasing you. You narrow your eyes at him. “What’s your deal?” you huff.
“It’s not even a bit obvious to you?” He’s smiling like a deviant. Like you’re just playing into one of his cold jokes. “Are you really that stupid?”
“What did I do to you?” you cross your arms.
“Everything,” he says, eyes casting downwards. You feel your heart starting to hammer as you realize he’s staring right at your lips. “You waltz into my life and make it absolute hell. You expect me to just know what’s on your mind. You expect me to just know what makes you happy and what makes you sad. You expect me to just know these things and I don’t and it makes me so tired and yet...” he laughs coldly. “And yet when I look at you, I want to be defeated. I want to fall at my knees at your mercy. It’s been like this since the day we met.” His hand slowly makes its way up to your cheek, cupping the glowy red flesh between his fingers. “C’mon, YN. How should it be? What do I have to do to make you like me as much as I like you?”
“Linkai, you idiot! If you liked me, you should’ve just told me!” you pout.
“And then you would’ve found something to complain about then as well,” he rolls his eyes. “Honestly, YN. Just lighten up with me sometimes. I’m trying.”
“You’re always trying,” you smile. “That’s what I like about you.”
“You wanna know a secret?” he asks, leaning in closely. “I only try his hard for you.”
And as his lips finally land on yours, you realize that this is exactly how it should have been all along.

wips:
out of the wips i’m currently working on:
dirtmix assignment (will be revealed very shortly!)
nahyuck pacific rim au
markrenmin enemies to lovers fantasy au
looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?
around what i expected... i was aiming for 1 fic a month and didn’t quite manage to hit that but i feel like each fic was longer than usual (i’m a terminal shortfic writer so anything over 3k is long for me). like i kept going 1-4k over my projected wordcount which was extremely panic-inducing when i was trying to write to deadlines lmao so overall i’m okay with the quantity of words i produced this year!
what pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
fandom-wise probably the survival show spiral and moving into ncity... if 2017 was the year of yugioh then 2018 was the year of rpf. some of the stuff i posted to socks was very uncharacteristic of my usual m.o but i think everything i put on main was very true to brand i.e ambiguous relationships + vague pining + emo conversations in the dark
did you take any writing risks this year? what did you learn from them?
i signed up for svtbb and had to drop out due to exam pressure, which was sad bc it’s the first exchange/fest i’ve ever defaulted on, but then i went and did lordeventeen and yuletide even though they partly ran through exam seasons too so i guess i learned nothing?!?
actually i think i probably could have afforded to take a few more risks genre-wise, i feel like everything i wrote in 2018 recycled the exact same themes but also at the same time those themes are the only thing i can write. terrible taste i will never change i will never improve that is a promise etc etc
what’s your own favorite story of the year?
reaching for you from the endless dream had me tearing my hair out while i was writing it but ultimately i feel like it paid off! i’ve always wanted to try canon compliant + magic and this ended up with some of the best writing i’ve ever done, plus i’m happy i was finally able to write something for one of my favourite svt ships <3 honourable mention to the concept behind when we see each other again, my post-disbandment allzzt ship manifesto titled after csc_uri_dasi_bol_ttae.mp3
best story of the year?
also reaching for you from the endless dream! i’m really proud of how this one turned out both in terms of technical quality (.... *repeats the same phrase 300 times* Is This Thematic Consistency?) and emotional beats, and it got so many lovely comments. i think this is probably one of my best fics ever, and i’m glad it struck a chord with other people too!
most popular story of the year?
not counting teiits since most of that was posted in 2017, it’s counting flower petals all day long, which really surprised me when i checked my ao3 stats? i must have hit the sweet spot of fandom growth + burgeoning ship popularity bc literally nothing happens in the fic other than one (1) kiss, but thank you for giving it so much love 💖
story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
omg i think everything i wrote this year was WAY over-appreciated but coincidence makes sense, which features a f/f/f rarepair (raretrio?) in a fandom with very little western fan presence, so i’m not surprised by its stats but i’m still pretty fond of this one and consider it one of the better fics i wrote in 2018, and one of the best idolverse fics i’ve ever written
most fun story to write:
from first principles, the debate au fic i’ve wanted to write for like 6 years, my beloved pet project through the month of august, and i think it shows? i tripled my projected word count and in the process of writing fully converted to dreamyism(/renjunism), so a lot of love went into it, even though there are places you can tell i definitely rushed the execution. one day i’ll do justice to a proper nct sports anime fic...
story with the single sexiest moment:
all the rated content i wrote this year was posted to socks other than the brief dance studio 3some scene in take one step closer, but i genuinely have no idea if that was even sxc since i wrote it on my phone in a feverish last-minute sprint on a plane while blasting twice bdz and haven’t reread it at all jhfgdfjdfh
most sweet story:
the general tone of everything i wrote in 2018 was much less depressing than 2017 but i guess the sweetest story was we both chose each other... what’s more romantic than dismembering a bunch of thugs with your beloved partner and then jumping off a cliff together!!
story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
kind of a weird question to apply to rpf... characterisation perceptions are constantly shifting based on current meta and au role needs, though i feel like i’m always struggling to play catchup and by the time i publish anything the general image has shifted ;__;
most unintentionally telling story:
from first principles draws heavily on my own experiences with high school debating... lots of 3rd speaker related anxieties and hangups projection all over the place in there lmao
hardest story to write:
every time i’m working on something, especially when i’m close to finishing, it is the hardest thing i have ever written... i can’t remember if writing has always been this difficult for me or if it’s an rpf thing. probably i struggled the most with reaching for you from the endless dream bc i’m deeply intimidated by writing jun (light of my life) due to the fear of not doing him justice, and also the deadline pressure nearly killed me. also at one point i called writing from first principles the worst experience of my life but looking back it wasn’t even that bad... mostly it was just that it kept getting longer and longer and eventually i was like Please God Let It End Already
biggest disappointment:
not finishing my svtbb fic... i am literally twitter user juncheolsoo i owe them SOMETHING!! not writing more fic. mediocre execution of decent concepts bc i got too impatient and rushed to finish things before i got bored of them
biggest surprise:
all of my fics about idol boys except one have over 100 kudos, which is just a ridiculous amount?! idol rpf fandoms have been so kind to me... i will work hard to become a better content creator in 2019!!
favourite opening line(s):
from leaving nothing behind:
“Are you looking for Justin?”
Xukun rears back, knuckles still poised to knock on the doorframe. “I—what?”
“Are you looking for Justin?” Zhengting repeats. He’s sprawled across the bottom bunk, leg dangling inelegantly off the edge. The phone in his hand casts an unsteady ellipse of light over his collarbone.
favourite closing line(s):
from growing without rest:
Beyond the arches the world is silent. The gem Phosphophyllite will become returns their gaze steadily, evenly. The shadows lengthen. In the distance behind them, a flicker of white, like light needling off somebody’s back, or the gleam of a pearl eye.
favourite 5 line(s) from anywhere:
from first principles:
“If only Mark-hyung was still here,” Renjun said, only half-jokingly. There was a brief moment of solemn silence as the three of them paused to consider their ex-captain, who had passed on last year to the realm of university debating.
when we see each other again:
So maybe they weren’t friends, but they were something. You couldn’t inhabit the same space for two years and come out the other side as strangers. Sometimes Zhengting thought that might have been easier than whatever this intimacy limbo was supposed to be, knowing somebody in the minutest details, what they looked like at the height of their intensity or the moments before they fell asleep, without really knowing them at all. Looking, and not having the gesture returned, or at least not equally.
coincidence makes sense:
The song ends, starts over. Meiqi doesn’t, though, pivoting to face them, and that’s all the invitation Xuanyi needs to unfold from her position beside Guo Ying and cross the floor. Like two halves of a single movement Meiqi reaches out to Xuanyi and Xuanyi presses their palms together, interlacing their fingers. The tilt of their heads towards each other like it’s something irresistible.
reaching for you from the endless dream:
Junhui was practically raised by the industry. The stage lying close enough to the bone it would be indistinguishable from it. He leaves his intensity on the stage but glimpses of it show through in odd moments, seamlessness without ease. It’s hard for Wonwoo to understand, but most things about Junhui are.
take one step closer:
You want to look into somebody, of course you have to let them look back. This is why he kept away in the first place, the terror of vulnerability when it could be staved off indefinitely instead, though he’d wanted to be seen, hoped for it, even, despite himself, something in the marrow singing out to be known.
It’s like an infection, a second heart in his ribs. A kind of longing that bites right through his hand. Strikes down to the quick. Severs the whole thing clean off. He ran so far from himself he landed in somebody else’s body, and here he is, still trying to escape.
top 5 scenes from anywhere you would choose to have illustrated:
jun lifting zzt up and spinning him around, from when we see each other again (;___; #junting_agenda_seeding)
wonwoo and jun in the kitchen with nectarines spilling out of the open fridge, from reaching for you from the endless dream
cxkzzt conversation in the dark while zzt is wearing a facemask, from leaving nothing behind
00z sports shounen hug, from from first principles
phos getting crushed by their future self’s gold arms, from growing without rest
honourable mention to noishin leaping off a cliff from we both chose each other, which actually did get illustrated in dorohedorozine <3
do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?
cut down my wip list... please i have 25+ wips on my spreadsheet i just want to FINISH something for once in my life instead of constantly starting new wips and letting them rot in the graveyard of my gdocs
practise writing actual shipfic and not poorly disguised gen. i WILL get better at writing kiss scenes
try to write something over 10k again
relearn what figurative language is and how to use it. rpf boosted my productivity stats but at what cost...

aksjdgh why am i doing this to him
Three words can change a life.
. . . . .
“You have cancer.”
Mubo blinks.
You squeeze his hand.
He blinks again.
Your face is pale.
He blinks again.
The words sink in.
He blinks again.
No way.
Please, no.
Mubo panics. His throat closes up, and tears prick at his eyes. But he forces himself to breathe.
“Is there any chance at all that it could be something else?” Mubo asks, swallowing. He squeezes your hand back, hoping against hope for even the tiniest possibility of it not being… that.
Please.
The doctor shakes his head, and that’s when Mubo’s world comes crashing down.
. . . . .
Cancer.
Mubo never wants to hear that word again.
He has to leave your son with the OACA boys while you sit with the doctor for too many appointments to count. He has to accept the condolences of all the people he knows. He has to keep up a brave face. He has to wipe his tears. He has to try and figure out just how to tell your son what’s going on, why you’re never home, why you’re always in that clean room and not with him at home.
All because of those three words.
There are so many horrible things he’s had to do because of those three words.
But by far the worst thing those words have forced him to do is cut your hair.
It’s your last day home before you move into the hospital long term. Your things are already packed up and Mubo hates it. He hates the emptiness of your bookshelf, its contents having been taken to the hospital to keep you occupied. He hates the lone suitcase standing in the corner of the room. He hates the fact that the scent of your perfume is already fading from the house.
When you walk up to him, holding out the hair-cutting kit, Mubo almost loses it right then and there.
You continue to look at him, your once-bright eyes somber, as you press the kit into his hands. “Mubo,” you whisper, your voice quiet and almost unrecognizable from your usual fiery tone, “I’d rather you do it than anyone else.”
He grasps the kit loosely, unable to respond from the lump in his throat. He simply nods, motioning for you to sit. You do so, and after wrapping a towel around your neck, he picks up the shears with shaking fingers.
He takes a deep breath. He steadies his hand.
Clumps of hair fall to the ground, ringing your feet as the shears buzz. At some point Mubo realizes he’s crying, but you don’t flinch as the tears drop on your head.
All of your hair is gone. All of the lovely hair that he used to card his hands through as you read a book on his lap. All of the lovely strands that he pressed kisses into just before you fell asleep. All of the lovely locks that framed your face and covered your son’s head when you hugged him.
Zixi comes home, dropped off by Qin Fen, who doesn’t say anything about your lack of hair. However, your son has no such filter, so he simply asks, “What happened to Mama’s hair?”
Mubo swallows, kneeling down to be face to face with his son. “You know your mama is sick, right?”
Zixi nods.
“The treatment she’s going to go through will make her lose her hair,” Mubo says. “Rather than go through that, she decided to shave her hair before.”
You kneel down next to Mubo, gazing up at your son.
Zixi is thinking. Mubo knows that because he has on the same expression you wear when you think. He finally nods.
“Mama still looks as beautiful as before,” he says resolutely.
The tears well up in Mubo’s eyes, but he manages to hold them back until you pull Zixi into a hug.
Then, he lets them fall.
. . . . .
Mubo hates the hospital.
He hates it.
It’s a battleground, full of patients fighting for their lives against the illnesses, the diseases, the disorders that plague them. When he enters the building each day, he’s assaulted by the pristine neatness of the place, by the scrubbed floors and polished windows, by the cheerful pictures displayed on the walls.
Your room is painted with pale blues and greens, colors that soothe Mubo yet make him sadder. They are calming colors, but he would almost rather be angry. Angry at the hospital. Angry at the diagnosis. Angry at the tumor. Angry at the world.
You lie on the bed, holding his hand loosely as you listen to him talk about his day. You listen to his stories about the OACA boys, about how Zimo did this and Peiyao did that. How Qin Fen finally brought a girl home. How Zuo Ye went out with Xukun and Ziyi.
He tells you that Zixi got a perfect score on his math test, that his teachers are asking him if he would be okay with Zixi doing higher level things while his classmates continue with their lessons. He tells you that Zixi is just like you, only gentler and quieter, which makes you stick out your tongue and laugh.
He tells you that Zixi, when asked by a classmate who the prettiest girl in the world was, replied, “My mama.”
You tear up at that, trying uselessly to stop them from falling. Instead of teasing like he would have a year ago, however, Mubo simply holds your hand, brushing away the tears with his thumb. When they don’t stop, he sits on the bed, holding you close until the shuddering cries stop.
. . . . .
A year passes in this manner. Hospital bills begin to eat away at your savings, but there’s nothing Mubo can do about it.
Every day, you grow weaker. Your skin gets paler, your eyes more tired. Still, you keep up a brave front, holding Zixi close whenever he comes to visit, smiling at the OACA boys when they show up as well.
Friends and family come in and out of the room, leaving flowers, cards, small presents. At the end of each day, Mubo arranges them carefully on the tables and windowsills, knowing how much you hate disorganization.
Mubo stays every day until visiting hours are over. He still goes to the company, he still works, but every minute that he isn’t, he’s in the hospital. He watches you as you sleep, wondering why the world would tear you two apart like this.
You’re fighting. Mubo knows you are, knows that every day is a struggle but that you’re doing your best to get through it. Mubo knows you, knows that you would never go down without a fight, knows that it was never in your nature to give up.
He knows, because you were the one that fought the company. He knows, because you were the one that protected yourself from the fans when they came after you. He knows, because you fought for your relationship. Because you fought for him.
He knows, because he knows you. He knows your fierceness. He knows your bravery. He knows your confidence, your boldness, your determination.
But he also knows you can’t win every battle.
The chemotherapy doesn’t help. Instead, it only weakens you further. It hurts Mubo to see you gritting your teeth in pain when the headaches don’t go away.
Nothing is helping.
Why, he wants to scream, why do you have to be cut away from the relationship you worked so hard for?
Zixi sits on his lap, staring solemnly at his mother with his big eyes. You hold out your arms to him, smiling tiredly, and he eagerly crawls into the bed with you, snuggling into your side.
Mubo watches the scene quietly.
This should be happening at home.
Zixi soon falls asleep, and there’s a long silence until you speak.
“Mubo,” you whisper, “I’m not going to make it.”
Mubo’s throat constricts, and he swallows uncomfortably. “Please,” he whispers, clutching your hand tighter. “Don’t say things like that.”
You smile sadly. Mubo wants to tear his eyes out because that smile is nothing like the one you wore when you were healthy. Mischievous twinkles and loud laughs have dwindled into tired tilts of your mouth and slight amusement in your eyes.
“When I go, Mubo,” you continue, “move on. You must.”
The tears are pricking at Mubo’s eyes, and you shift around on the bed to make space for him. He sits down, letting you pull him close.
“What if I don’t want to?” he whispers childishly.
You huff, rolling your eyes slightly in amusement before turning serious again. “You must, Mubo,” you repeat. “For yourself. For Zixi. For the boys.” You swallow. “For me.”
Mubo says nothing, simply holding you and Zixi close.
“Mubo.” Your tone is insistent, refusing to relent. “Promise me.”
He struggles to speak, struggles to free his throat from this constricting ball of emotion that’s clogging every breath.
“Mubo.” Your voice breaks that lump that’s keeping him from speaking.
He swallows, feeling the tears well up again. “I promise,” he whispers.
“Pinky promise?” You hold up your pinky, careful not to bump any wires or wake Zixi up.
A shaky laugh bubbles from Mubo’s lips, and he hooks your finger with his. “Pinky promise,” he says.
A contented, joyful smile spreads across your face, reminding him so much of the lively woman he married years ago. “Thank you.”
“You know I would do anything for you, right?” Mubo says, raising an eyebrow.
“Would you walk through fire for me?” you ask teasingly.
“Anything,” he breathes, sealing your lips with a kiss.
. . . . .
Papery skin, dull eyes, weak breaths. It’s a struggle for Mubo to watch you breathe, a struggle for him to even bring Zixi into the room because he doesn’t want his son’s innocence to be tarnished by pain and death so early in his life.
But Zixi insists, and Mubo knows that he can’t keep his son away from his mother. And Zixi is an angel. He’s quiet, obedient, and simply watches you with wide eyes.
Both of them are in the room on that final day. Zixi is on Mubo’s lap, telling his mother about something new that happened at school. Mubo watches you, watches the contented expression on your face as you listen, watches the love in your eyes as you gaze at your son.
His heart aches.
Zixi’s story is finally over, and he clutches his mother’s hand in silence, gazing into your eyes solemnly. You smile weakly, reaching up to caress his face. Mubo helps you struggle into sitting position, and you place a kiss on Zixi’s forehead.
“I love you, Zixi,” you whisper, holding your son’s face in your hands.
“I love you too, Mama,” he says back without blinking an eye before pressing a kiss of his own to his mother’s cheek.
Mubo’s heart is already fragile, and he feels like it’s about to crack right then and there as you lie down again, unable to sit for long.
An hour passes as you drift in and out of consciousness, then two, and Zixi falls asleep. Mubo is left to listen to your irregular breaths as your heartbeat grows weaker and weaker.
For a moment, your eyes open, and you gaze at Mubo with a startling fire he hasn’t seen since you were hospitalized. “Mubo,” you say, your voice strong, your eyes intense, “remember your promise.”
He swallows, then nods. “I will,” he says back, gazing deep into your eyes, your beautiful eyes that he fell in love with. “I promise.”
It hurts to say this, hurts to knowa that he will eventually have to let you go, but a promise is a promise and he knows that he must keep it.
“For Zixi,” he murmurs. “For the boys. For me.” He lifts your hand to kiss it. “And for you.”
Your eyes close, your body relaxes, but the smile on your lips is unmistakable.
Another hour passes. Your heart continues to get weaker. Mubo continues to watch.
“I love you,” he whispers. “I always will.”
He doesn’t expect you to answer, so he’s startled when your lips move slightly. “I love you too,” you murmur, so softly he almost doesn’t hear. “I will be with you, always.”
Mubo drops a last, light kiss on your forehead, then on your lips. The faint smile on your face grows slightly wider.
He holds your hand tight, watching the life drain from your body. He fights back his tears, watching the heart monitor go flat. He bites his lip hard, watching the nurses run into the room. He watches them pronounce your time of death, watches your hand being ripped from his grasp, watches you being carried away.
Wordlessly, carrying Zixi, he walks out of the room, telling the nurse he will come tomorrow to pick everything up. He’s pretty sure that isn’t proper protocol, but she sees his blank eyes and haggard face and relents easily. He straps Zixi into the car, then drives home.
The house is dark, empty, and unwelcoming when he unlocks the door. He flips on the light, but it doesn’t help. The light only illuminates the room, making it seem much larger than it is, making him fully realize that your laughter will never grace the halls again. That your perfume will no longer scent the air.
That you will never come back.
Zixi is on the sofa, Mubo having laid him there when they arrived home. He sits up, awake, and looks at his father with the bright, intelligent eyes that he inherited from you.
There’s a silence.
“Mama isn’t coming back, is she?” he finally asks.
Mubo can’t stop the tear that drips down his cheek as he sits on the sofa next to his son.
“No,” he whispers, voice broken. “She isn’t coming back.”
Zixi thinks for a moment, then nods. And then, looking smaller than ever, he reaches his hands out to his father.
The tears come quickly as Mubo holds his son close, allowing Zixi’s tears to soak into his shirt. He doesn’t know, doesn’t care how much time passes. All he knows is that he is crying, his son is crying, and that you are never coming back.
Father and son hold each other in the dark hours of the night, mourning the untimely loss of the woman who brought them so much joy.
. . . . .
- Three months later -
Mubo stares at the object in his hand, remembering what the nurse had told him.
“She told me to give it to you if she didn’t make it,” she says, her calm voice trembling slightly. “Open it only when you feel like giving up.”
And Mubo has never felt more like giving up.
He swallows, eyes boring holes into the small flash drive lying on his palm. His gaze flickers to his laptop, and as though in a trance, he walks over, turns it on, and plugs the flash drive in.
Long seconds pass as he waits for the drive to load. When it does, he takes a deep breath, then clicks to view the files on it.
Two videos. One is named “Han Mubo.” The other is named “Han Zixi.”
He hesitates, the cursor hovering over the one labelled with his name. Then, unable to stand it anymore, he clicks it.
You pop up on the screen, smiling, eyes tired, but as beautiful as he always remembered.
Mubo almost exits the window right then and there. But something, he doesn’t know what, brings his hand away from the mouse.
“Mubo,” you say, “if you’re watching this… it means I didn’t make it.” You pause for a moment, adjusting the blankets on the bed.
“I’m sorry,” you continue, swallowing hard. “I’m so sorry, Mubo.”
“Please don’t be,” he whispers, unable to tear his eyes away from the screen. “It’s not your fault.”
“But I know what you’re probably saying right now,” you say, laughing slightly. “‘Don’t be, it wasn’t your fault.’”
Mubo smiles through the tears clouding his vision. “You knew me so well,” he murmurs.
“But that won’t stop me from being sorry.” You scratch your forehead, a rueful smile on your face. “I’m sorry that I had to leave you this early. I’m sorry that Zixi will grow up without his mother.”
There’s a short silence, and then you continue.
“It’s been… what, six years since we got married?” You laugh a little. “Time flies. I just... I want you to know that I don’t regret any of it. I hope you feel the same.”
I do.
I do.
Oh, I do.
“I want you to know…” You swallow again. “I want you to know that just because I’m not there with you in person, I will never truly have left you. I’ll always be with you, Mubo, to guide you every step of the way. But remember your promise too, and move on, alright? Don’t let me or Zixi be your last love.”
“Why,” Mubo chokes, “why do you have to be so selfless?” It doesn’t matter to him that he’s talking to a computer screen. He only cares about the words you’re saying, and how they’re hitting his heart.
“I love you, Mubo,” you whisper, brushing a tear from your eye. “I love you and Zixi. Never forget that. And never let him forget that either, okay? Watch the other video with him when you feel he needs it, alright?”
Mubo nods wordlessly, wiping the tears from his face.
“I love you,” you say again. “I always will.”
And the video ends.
Mubo remains seated, unable to move after watching the video. Unable to move after seeing you again for the first time in months.
The pain in his heart is still there, and he doesn’t think it will ever truly heal. You left your mark on him, and that mark will never fade. In fact, he’s glad for the pain, because it ensures that he will never forget you.
“I promise,” he whispers, “that I will move on. For Zixi. For the boys. For me.” He takes a deep, shuddering breath, recalling that last day. “And for you.”
Zixi comes home to see his father crying on his chair, uselessly wiping his face as the tears continue to trickle down. Wordlessly, he climbs onto his father’s lap and hugs him.
Together, they watch the second video in silence. And when it ends, neither of them have dry eyes.
They hold each other tight, Zixi’s tiny hands clutching Mubo’s shirt, Mubo’s large hands covering his son’s back, but for the first time in a while, things feel… better.
Not okay, not good, but better.
Mubo smiles faintly.
At least it’s a start.

The 9Spies Heist
Part 1 - Previous Part // Masterlist
(A/N: This is my first fic, so please bear with me if it’s a bit all over the place! Also, I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to update this? I’m quite a slow writer so at the moment I’m aiming for a part every week, but I’ll try and update more once summer starts <33)
The buzz of his phone woke Linong up – about 2 hours too late to get to school on time. Cursing his decision to stay up and monitor the footage of a camera he had set up the week before, he flopped back onto his bed with a sigh. There was no point going in today and getting yelled at for his tardiness again, he would just say that he had come down with a stomach bug when he went back to school after the weekend. With finals already over for the year and graduation just over 2 weeks away, what was the point in even bothering to show up at this point?
Rolling over, Linong snagged his phone from his bedside table. He didn’t remember setting any alarms, so he wondered why it was even making noise to begin with. Upon turning the device on though, no notifications popped up. A quick glance through his texts and social media apps gave no cause for the buzz either. His eyebrows wrinkled together in a frown, confusion clearly reaching his soft features. At a loss, he pulled out his work phone that was kept hidden between some books. Linong’s clients usually kept their messages for the weekend since he charged extra for services during the week, but maybe some emergency had come up? His eyes darted around his room as he idly waited for the phone to boot up.
“Ugh, this room is such a mess… Wait- What the hell is that!?” he muttered softly to himself before catching sight of the sleek black limo parked in front of his house. That was definitely not normal… Just then, the phone in his hand buzzed and he looked down, soft brown eyes widening comically at the email that greeted him.
Dear Mr Chen Linong,
We here at 9spies Agency are extremely impressed with your past freelance work. It is not often that we find any agent with your qualifications at the young age of 17. As such, we would like to extend an invitation for you to join our latest spy team. Your past successes and unique skill set, along with your superior intellectual ability have led us to believe that you would make an invaluable contribution to our team of spies.
Of course, you will be heavily rewarded for the missions you go on while a part of our team. In addition to monetary rewards, you will also be authorized to have full access to our 9spies databases and documents. You will be able to retain any freelance clients that you want to, so long as it does not interfere with your official missions as a member of the 9spies team.
If you are interested in joining the team, please enter the limo parked outside of your house. It will take you to our Headquarters where you will be officially inducted as a 9spies team members and will be introduced to your teammates.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email, and we sincerely hope that you consider our offer.
Signed, 9spies Agency
Linong’s jaw fell to the ground as he read the email, and to say he was shell-shocked at the offer would have been a huge understatement. 9spies wanted him, a nobody freelancer, when there were probably better and more experienced professional spies out there?! Blinking in disbelief, he reread the email before turning his attention to the black vehicle still parked in front of his house.
Could he trust this? What if it all turned out to be some elaborate scheme? Soft black strands of his hair fell over his face as Linong shook his head, racking his brain for a way to verify that the email was authentic. Sure, it looked real enough, but he knew better than most how easy these things were to forge. And while Linong was fairly sure he was too new to the industry to have any real enemies, he didn’t want to be too trusting in a world as full of thievery and crime as the spy one. Suddenly, it hit him – Kaihao.
Xu Kaihao, better known as Locking Jack due to his almost innate ability to pick locks, was a world-famous agent under 9spies agency. Most importantly, however, he was also a good friend of Linong’s. Kaihao had been the person who had originally introduced Linong to freelanced spy work, and was always a call away to help with some of the trickier cases that Linong had decided to tackle over the past year or so. Quickly finding his friend’s contact among the hundreds of others in his phone, Linong hit the dial button and waited for Kaihao to pick up. As much as Linong desperately wanted to be part of a 9spies team, the logical side of his brain told him that it was probably too good to be true.
“Hey! Nongnong, what’s up?” Kaihao’s distinctively cheery voice came through as he picked up the call. Linong worried his bottom lip between his teeth. Wouldn’t it be better to live in ignorant bliss, at least for another moment or two? No, he decided. He needed to find out if it was all a hoax so that he could just go on with his life without thinking about the ‘what if’s.
“Hey, Ge! I just got the weirdest email. It was from 9spies? Offering me a place on their latest spy team? It sounds too good to be true so I thought I would ask to see if you had heard anything around the higher-ups…” Linong said, unsure. Bracing himself for the worst, he waited with bated breath for Kaihao’s reply. There was no way it was real, right?
“Really? You actually got through the application process? Sweet, dude! Congrats!” Wait- hold on – application process? What? Linong must have voiced that thought out loud, because the next thing he heard was, “Yeah, I submitted your name for consideration, by the way, hope you don’t mind! When my boss brought up the topic of a new team, I just couldn’t resist. Congrats again on getting in! You are accepting the offer, right?”
So, it was real. He, Chen Linong, had gotten into a 9spies team, at the age of 17. The thought made his brain both want to shut down and explode in pure joy. Who would have thought? He quickly reassured his friend that he would – obviously – be accepting the offer, before hanging up. Staring once again at the email, he read it again. It was real. It was actually real. The corners of his eyes crinkled as his mouth slid upward into a broad smile. Jumping out of bed, he hopped into his bathroom and got changed in record time, throwing some essentials into a backpack as he ran a hand through his hair. Linong stood in front of his mirror and gave himself a brief once-over. It would do. Double-checking that he had both his phones with him, he rushed through his empty house and out the front door.
He locked the door closed behind him and forced himself to take a calming breath before turning around. This was it. Masking his signature smile with a more neutral expression, he made his way toward the sleek limo that awaited him.

RANKING MY TOP 5 FICS
hello everyone. let me just take a moment to introduce myself. my name is Megan and two years ago, I started this blog originally under the user name @/syzygy-yoongi to post one shots about the boys from IQIYI’s Idol Producer. since that time, i have gain a mass following (2,000+ today) that i am forever grateful for. i have also made many friends that i love dearly and am so blessed to have in my life.
when i began this blog, i didn’t expect so many people to pay attention or to read my stories. if you remember, i was pumping out chapters two or three times a day, finishing series within a week or two because i loved writing that much.
today, i’m going to rank my top five completed series that i have written. feel free to reblog with your own opinions/rankings as well or leave me an ask with your opinions about my stories! (i’m very bored).
Now let’s get this show on the road!
SPOILERS BELOW! vvv
1. Girls Like You (Cai Xukun)
Summary: IP High School is one of the most prestigious boarding schools in China for the fine arts. Owned by the Huang family, the school only accepts the best of the best. Many of China’s biggest stars came from this school and many of their students already have offers upon their graduation.
This year will be Cai Xukun’s fourth year at the school and fourth year witnessing the favoritism of his classmate, Zhu Zhengting (who’s parents are world class dancers) as well as the favoritism from students Fan Chengcheng (little brother of China’s most famous actress) and headmasters’ son, Huang Justin. The three of them are known to run the school. They get away with being late to classes, missing classes completely, missing assignments, talking back and Xukun swears he’s never seen them in full uniform. Safe to say that he kind of despises them and their “holier-than-thou” mindsets.
So when Justin’s sister joins them for her senior year, he could only roll his eyes at the news. While all of Xukun’s friends seem to fall for her, he can’t see the magic of it all.
“Girls like you? Girls like you are the kind that I can’t stand! You think just because you’re rich and pretty that we all have to fall for you? Well news flash, it’s not going to work on me. Now stay out of my way!”
MY OPINION: I really hold this fic near and dear to my heart because of the amount of work I put into the relationship between YN and Justin, YN and Zhengting and YN and Xukun. These were the three main relationships throughout the story that I feel really made readers pick sides. In all honesty, I was very nervous the first half the the story because everyone was on Zhengting’s side. This story was one of my most popular series and I was very pleased with the outcome, though I do have some regrets.
LOVED MOST: The relationship between YN and Justin. Justin’s character was the most difficult character I have ever portrayed. The early stages of developing his character actually spurred from Charlie from the movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower. As for YN’s character, I grew up in a household where my parents were always at work and so I had to raise my younger siblings (obviously not to the extent of YN’s and my parents are kind people). Her motherly tendencies came a lot from the things I had personally done growing up (making meals, putting together backpacks, so on and so forth). I think of all the relationships I’ve ever written, YN’s and Justin’s “Huang or Die” relationship is always going to be my favorite.
BIGGEST REGRET: The ending. Looking back on it now, I honestly think the story should have gone another way. Of course YN runs from Zhengting but I personally think that the ending was way too rushed. It was something I put together in the matter of hours just because I wanted to get the story over with. I think now, I would have let YN have more time to be herself and to be a kid in Korea rather than carrying on being a mother. I also would have liked it if she had ended up with Chengcheng, the only boy in this entire story besides Zhengting, who had been there from start to finish . I would have also liked to have seen the more interaction with her and Yanjun and Ziyi, considering they, along with Bingbing were the main hands that took part in her escape.
2. SUBSCRIBE! (Xiao Gui)
Summary: Wang Linkai just posted videos of himself playing videos for fun. He never in a million years expected to build the type of following he did.
or
Zhu YN started off just posting little home videos for her and her friends. She never in a million years expected to build the type of following she did.
or
The one where you and Xiao Gui have no idea who the other is until one day, your brother sends you the link to a video called “REACTING TO TEXTS FROM AN ANGEL I MET TODAY!”
MY OPINION: Though Xiao Gui continues to be my bias up until today, the fic that I wrote for him is second place. I had a lot of fun writing it but with a more regrets than I did with Girls Like You. (Also let’s all remember when I wrote that he was a matcha frappe guy and then days later, he was papped with that exact drink).
LOVED MOST: Xiao Gui’s character development is something I’m always going to take pride in. I think out of all of my stories, his character was one of the most carefully planned. There were little details (such as when Gui goes from stealing Ziyi’s car keys to asking for them in the end) that really showed how much he grew. I’m also glad he didn’t just give up his dream for love and how he wanted YN to be free while he was away. I feel like had he been the same person from the beginning, he either would’ve given up his music career or made YN wait for him. I really loved to see how much he grew during this story.
BIGGEST REGRET: How YN knew Xiao Gui’s mother 🤦🏻‍♀️. That was such a plot twist ending that didn’t even make sense. I wish I had found a different way for YN to have gotten Gui to be with his mother other than “oh she sells me fruit”.
3. Smile for the Camera (Zhu Zhengting)
Summary: Nine Percent Photography is a small company with big names. Owned by Y/N, it features the faces of Cai Xukun, Chen Linong, Fan Chengcheng, Huang Justin, Lin Yanjun, Wang Ziyi and You Zhangjing.
Nine Percent Photography is best known for their creativity and ability to push their models into various aesthetics. They are one of the richest companies in Asia with every model raking in an estimated 2.3 million dollars every month. It is every model’s dream to be apart of this world class company.
Zhu Zhengting is an aspiring model. Up until this point, he has only scored small gigs. That is, until one phone call changed his entire life.
Zhengting finally has the chance to follow his dreams. He’s not going to let anything get in his way. Right?
MY OPINION: This story was the first story of mine that really blew up. It’s my pride and joy and where my following really started to build.
LOVED MOST: I loved the harmony between the company. It was like they were all destined to be together. I also liked how they were so honest with each other towards the end. I loved how they all had to fall apart to come back together. I also really appreciated Yanjun’s friendship with YN and how much YN loved her company.
BIGGEST REGRET: I should have made the the story longer so that YN and Zhengting could have had more time to fall in love with each other. I reread it a couple of weeks ago and honestly, the way the fell was so awkward and rushed. Had I gone back to write it, I would have focused more on their love story. I also wished I would have gone and written more about their modeling and/or their work since they were a modeling company. I also wished I had gone deeper into YN and Zeren’s backstory.
4. Oblivious (Wang Ziyi)
Wang Ziyi has never been the type to confront his feelings head on. He’s always swallowed the butterflies, tied his shoe laces and held on to the safety handle to make sure he never let him fall for anyone. He likes to say it’s because he doesn’t want to get his heart broken but his friends say that maybe he’s just saving those feelings for you.
or
the one where people aren’t sure whether you two really hate each other or really like each other.
MY OPINION: This was one of my more humorous stories. I’m usually an angst writer so getting to write Ziyi and YN in such a playful manner was like a breath of fresh air. This is also the story that came after I took my first hiatus (which was supposed to be like a week but ended up being like a day lol). I remember the stress of wanting to write something angsty for Ziyi and not having the storyline so instead, I decided to write a funnier story for him. Though, not as popular as Girls Like You, Subscribe! or Smile for the Camera, it still ranks high for me.
LOVED MOST: I LOVED HOW FUNNY ZIYI AND YN’S CHARACTERS WERE — actually all of them! One of my favorite parts of the story is always going to be the line where Linong says he has “bible study in an hour” and Yanjun replies “PLEASE STOP CALLING YOUR THEOLOGY (the study of the nature of God and religious beliefs) CLASS BIBLE STUDY!” All of the characters played a big part in the story unlike in the others where characters like Zhangjing and Linong are more of the background extras.
BIGGEST REGRET: THE WHOLE ENDING! I remember a lot of people were upset with YN and her plans and I agree because what she did was a bit uncalled for. But I remember just wanting it to end so I let it end the way it did. Had I gone back and rewritten it, I probably would have let Xingjie and YN play out for a bit before the two realized they were better off as friends. Sort of along the lines of Lara Jean and John Ambrose.
5. Trust Me - Lin Yanjun
Summary: Summary: Ever since you were a freshman in high school, Wang Ziyi has always felt the need to protect you. Now you’re a freshman in college and nothing has changed. When he hears that the labeled player, Lin Yanjun, is trying to make his way into your life, Ziyi finds it harder to keep his secret under wraps - especially when you make friends with You Zhangjing, Lin Yanjun’s best friend.
MY OPINION: Ah yes. I feel like this is a forgotten story of mine. It was one of my first ever series. I think I was still @/syzygy-yoongi at the time that I wrote this. I still get nostalgic when I see people finding it now. This is actually the story that got me into writing series (I had never written one before Trust Me) when a follower suggested the idea to me.
LOVED MOST: I really loved the plot twist at the end. I think of all of my stories, this was the only one that I really planned out and stuck to it. I didn’t overthink Trust Me because at the time, I did get have many followers and I didn’t have anyone to disappoint.
BIGGEST REGRET: I think the reason why I ranked Trust Me so lowly is because of the lack of quality it had. It was the earliest development of what yanjuniverse is today. This is the story that made me realize that I really had a knack for angst. I have the fondest memories of Trust Me and I’m so happy I wrote it.
Conclusion: This was my top five rankings for my completed series. Of course it doesn’t go into my incompleted series (I Bet would’ve knocked Trust Me right off of this list). This was a complete waste of time but just something I wanted to do because I had just spent the past couple of weeks rereading my fics. Hope you all enjoyed and if you made it this far, thank you so much. I’m so grateful for this blog. It really made me who I am today. I’m so grateful for the memories and how much I grew from these stories!
