Family to Nation

The spirit of development was a widely introduced and propagated persona during the New Order era, infiltrating civilians' domestic and private space. This was massively recorded in the Indonesian family archive since the family was the actor and the target of the development itself.

This vernacular practice of recording—photographs, documents, and others—holds layers of potentiality to enrich our historical narratives. The domestic space and medium is a possible verge which obscures control and propaganda within the domain of intimacy.

Family to Nation utilizes the domestic archive of Indonesian families as an effort of activating the peripheral narrative of our nation. This curatorial work simulates the possible space to access these personal documentations to re-present these ‘unimportant’ artifacts and provide opportunity for today’s generation to re-experience and re-think about the (historical) narrative made, collected, and gathered by ordinary civilians in their intimate space.

過去に虹釜太郎との共催CDRレーベル<ICERICE>、日野浩志郎(YPY/goat)主催<birdFriend>から作品を発表、本レーベルからもWOODMANらとのユニット”一寸軟式ギャング”を含め3作リリースするbonnounomukuroが、80年代ニューウェイヴ・ファンクの伝説的バンド”EP-4”の佐藤薫がディレクターを勤める<φonon(フォノン)>よりCDで1stアルバムをリリースします。

合わせて、4/30,5/2に東京にて2日に渡り開催するレーベル・ショウケース両日ともに出演。

This work simulates a domestic space in two sections; living room (semi-private) and working space (private). The first depicts the mass indoctrination carried out through technology to penetrate deeper into domestic (and even, unconscious individual) spaces. The infrastructure development, supervised by the state apparatus and the military, projected as a goal, was also utilized as a medium of indoctrination. This work presents a juxtaposition between the narrative in the popular march 'ABRI (Armed Forces of Indonesia) Entering Villages' and vernacular visual records.

The second section simulates a private space which is not entirely free from panoptic practices. Under censorship and systematic pressure, criticism and complaints against the government were often seen as subversive efforts. These stories were only heard and spoken silently within limited scope, between family members, or small groups of people. Some of the stories transformed into gossip and public secrets. This work presents a collection of archives, photographs, documents, observations, interviews, and gossip collected from the public regarding the situation during the regime transition in the 1960s and the condition in the New Order era.

2007年本名義での活動を始め、MPC2000をメインに楽曲を制作。 2011年サンプラーの保存エラーの為テープレコーダーへ録音していた時期の曲群をまとめた作品”TAPE DAYS”を虹釜太郎氏との共同レーベルICERICEよりリリース。2013年YPYこと日野浩志郎(goat, bonanzas) の主宰するカセットテープレーベルbirdFriendより「Mindows」をリリース、以降本作のオリジナルカセットをはじめ、さまざまなコラボ、コンピレーションやリミックス企画に参加。他にも自身での BALEARIC TENDENCIESやノーノ等のCDR作品やcassette 作品をリリース、神戸を拠点に精力的に活動する。
