WIP Wednesday! Thanks @in-a-slanted-outhouse for the tag 💖
Here’s the beginning of my WIP where Diego gets sent to Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 after the s1 apocalypse instead of Dallas in ‘63.
TW: Violence
Diego was ejected from Five’s time bubble and landed perfectly on the ground. Almost out of instinct he grabbed a knife and looked around, taking in his surroundings. He was in a lightly wooded forest. The weather was mild and he couldn’t see any man-made things. This was, of course, worrying. Had Five dropped him off 10,000 years ago or two? Either way, his primary objectives were the same: water, shelter, food. He started walking, hoping to find a river or a store that sold water bottles. He wasn’t thirsty yet, but he would be eventually. He walked up over to the top of a nearby hill to get a good vantage point, and what he saw below helped narrow down where he was.
Farms, loads of farms, and maybe a mile off, an old-timey looking town. Diego wasn’t exactly a history buff, but based on pictures he’d seen and generic knowledge of the past, he figured he was probably somewhere between 1500 and 1800. He’d have to go down and talk to the people to find out. Seeing their clothes and if they spoke English would narrow it down a lot more. Diego began to trek down the hill (it wasn’t a very steep incline or particularly difficult; he’d climbed much worse mountains as a kid).
As he got closer, a scene began to unfold. Someone was very quickly grabbing tomatoes from the farm Diego was approaching, and a woman in almost pilgrim-looking clothing ran out of the house on the farm and was waving a rolling pin and yelling at the man. Diego looked back and forth at the situation, and then realized that the man was stealing the lady’s tomatoes! He instinctively whipped a knife at the thief which curved and pinned him to the ground. Diego then ran over, grabbed the man and cuffed him.
“Who are ye??” the man cried out. “What are ye doing??”
“I’m Diego. I just stopped you from committing a crime.”
The man looked at him with confusion and disdain, and his nose wrinkled a little. Diego saw that the man’s teeth looked awful. Wherever he was, it was before dentists. The man spoke modern English though, so he couldn’t be that far in the past. The accent sounded kind of American, too.
He looked up and around, hoping to see the woman and proudly proclaim that he saved her tomatoes, but the woman was running in the other direction.
“Are ye possessed by the devil??” the man asked harshly. Diego was so taken aback that he didn’t know what to say. “Where did ye get this contraption and how did yer knife curve through the air like a bird in flight?”
Diego stammered. “Uh, I… you know what? Not your business! I’m taking you to the police.”
“If ye try to turn me in to Reverend Parris for stealing tomatoes, I’ll be turning you in for witchcraft!”
“Witchcraft!” Diego cried. “Um… is this, by any chance, Salem, Massachusetts?”
“Of course it is you vile witch! Now prepare to face the wrath of God!” the man squirmed out of Diego’s grip and went running off into town. Diego just stood in the tomato field totally dumbfounded. They accused men of being witches too??
And he wasn’t a witch. He gulped, and realized that according to these people, he probably was. He could manipulate the trajectory of anything he threw. Too bad Allison or Klaus or Vanya weren’t here. They’d draw all the attention away from him in a snap (well, Allison could just make this all go away).
Either way, all he had to do now was not use his powers, right? He had always considered himself as having one of the healthiest relationships with their powers out of the family. Unlike Allison, or to a lesser extent, Five, he didn’t rely on them and use them all the time. Unlike Klaus or Ben, he wasn’t scared of them. Unlike Vanya, he never ended the world. In fact… his relationship with his powers was most similar to… Luther. Luther had always relied on their father too much and his powers not enough. Maybe he should’ve relied on them more. When Diego heard the news that his old man had kicked it, a small part of him had hoped that his least favorite brother had realized what a dickhead dad was, come home, and punched his brains out.

Brewing the Storm
Here we go folks! Those of you familiar with me know I tend to have a “favorite” whenever I do a ship week... and this small piece is it! I hope you’ll all enjoy it too.
Day 5: Last Kiss @taiqrowweek
Rating: K
Words: 3,000
Summary: With Beacon in ruins and the fallout creeping over the horizon, Taiyang's only goal is to keep his family safe. Even if it means lying to them. [Takes place Post-Volume 3]
Ao3 Link: Brewing the Storm
~
He’d read once in an article found in one of the many throwaway magazines doctors and dentists always set out to preoccupy their patients with, that it was considered ‘healthy’ for there to be conflict in a relationship. The column had laid out bullet points on how fighting could communicate feelings, build trust and even increase intimacy. At the time, young and recently divorced, he’d scoffed at it, certain he’d never read something more ridiculous.
Now, two marriages and two decades later, Tai still scoffed at it as he angrily whisked the egg whites. His scowl only grew more pronounced as he heard the telltale footsteps of his husband entering the kitchen. He had to resist the urge to just turn around and snap at him to get out of his ‘room’, childish as it was. The kitchen door was pulled shut, offering a pretense of privacy before they got started.
“You can’t protect her forever you know.”
And there it was.
“Really? That’s how you’re going to start?” Tai snapped, setting the bowl down with enough force it nearly cracked.
Qrow gauged him as he rounded the dining table, resting himself back against the open end of it. Enough distance to not encroach onto either of their personal spaces, but not so much it felt like they had to shout at one another. Neither had ever been shy about getting into each other’s faces during an argument – but time and experience had taught them that level of aggression tended to drive them into poor directions afterwards. It was never pleasant to have to attend a bar at 2 AM to drag an absolutely smashed Qrow home; just as he knew it wasn’t any more a joy to deal with him locked in their bedroom and unable to come out.
So, they’d long ago made a pact to keep a divide between one another whenever they were angry with each other. It usually made Tai feel a little better, whenever Qrow remembered.
“I’m not going to apologize, if that’s what you’re looking for.”
Today, he was too furious to even notice. “No, of course you wouldn’t. Because then you’d have to admit you were wrong.”
Qrow scowled, crossing his arms. “Wrong about what Tai? That Ruby should know the eyes that she just accidentally happened to use is going to catch the attention of an enemy she isn’t even aware exists?”
“She’s not ready!”
“Well shit, you’re right.” His tone was mockingly affronted. “Why don’t we get a little care package together for Salem with a little note attached.” He raised a hand, punctuating the air in front of him as if he were pressing the words onto paper, “‘Please don’t attack until Ruby is a full-fledged Huntress. Thanks.’”
He breathed out through his nose. “Quit being an asshole.”
“Once you stop being unreasonable.”
“Unreasonable?!” He bellowed. “Hundreds are dead Qrow! Students older than Ruby! Some of them were students of ours!”
“And their experience didn’t save them either!” He shouted right over him. “Face it Tai, this isn’t about doing the best thing for her, it’s about you trying to rule over something you can’t control!”
“I don’t want to put another grave next to Summer’s!”
In the wake of his scream, there was emptiness. Nothing in the air left except their harsh breathes and regret.
The first one to move was Qrow – but his destination was disheartening as he yanked open one of the cabinets, pulling out a bottle of rum. He didn’t bother with a glass. “I know, but you don’t get to make that choice. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll let those kids live their fucking lives.”
With those parting words, he left the room.
Tai never felt so alone.
~
A week later, the first snow of the season hit. The storm had blown in overnight, bringing down fat, drifting flakes that coated the ground within the hour and continued on throughout the evening. By morning, mounds of it covered every inch of the yard. The leafless trees bent with the weight and the pine trees in the surrounding forest looked festive with their speckles of green bursting through the ice.
In years past, the first sign of winter had always been met with a level of unrestrained energy. Yang and Ruby would race down the stairs, cheering over the lack of school as Signal would close for the day to allow the students one chance to play. When the girls were young, they’d take them out, where there would be snowball fights and built up forts and, if the storm was really good like this one, they’d go up into the surrounding hills to do some sledding.
As they grew older, neither of the girls wanted to ‘hang out’ with their dorky dads and met up with friends instead. It left the house to Tai and Qrow. Typically, they’d make some homemade hot chocolate, get a nice fire going in the hearth, and bundle up together on the couch and watch old movies until it was dark. It was a relaxing, comfortable way of spending it together. That tradition eventually faded away, as Qrow’s missions took more and more of his time away, until he was almost never back in time for the Snow Day.
It was clear that, despite having everyone there, from the gloomy atmosphere that permeated every nook and cranny of their home, it would be the quietest year yet.
Tai wandered down the eerily silent halls, feeling like a stranger in his own house. Both the girls’ doors were open. With them still gaining back their strength, he wanted them to have a way to call for him if they needed anything. A quick glance into Yang’s room proved she was still asleep – but Ruby was already up. Her back was to the window, eyes intent on something on her phone.
He paused in the threshold, catching her attention. “Good morning. How ‘bout some breakfast?”
“Sure dad.” She smiled feebly. Her eyes looked red around the edges, making him think she’d been up for awhile.
His chest hurt, seeing it, so he smiled twice as big right back, “Alright, it’ll be up soon.” And continued on his way, thinking the world was more unfair then it ought to be.
Getting downstairs only amplified the feeling, realizing Qrow was neither in the living room or the kitchen. He had been spending less and less time home since their argument and they’d barely spoken to one another even when he was around. Not that a conversation was often possible, since when he did bother to return, he was smelling worse than a brewery and acting like his motor functions had been inversed like a bad video game mechanic.
Tai tried not to feel guilty, knowing it would eat at his resolve faster than acid. The rampant increase to Qrow’s addiction had little to do with him and more to do with the sudden chaotic state of the world and the loss of a friend. He was probably feeling confused and uncertain of his way forward without Oz to guide him and-
Focus, Tai. Take one day at a time. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. Ruby first, then he’d check in on Yang and then finally text his wayward husband after he was mostly certain he’d awoken from whatever stupor he’d drunken himself into. With that battle plan in mind, he started up his playlist on his scroll, pulled out the dough that had been chilling overnight, and got to work.
~
It was nearly an hour later he was sprinkling the last of the powdered sugar atop the freshly made chocolate chip scones. He set a few of them onto a plate, then decorated it further with some strawberries before placing it on the serving tray. He poured a cup of Jasmine tea from the still warm kettle before adding it and an apple and finally surveyed his work. Light, flavorful, and full of his youngest’s favorites that might just be enough to put a real smile back on her face.
With a satisfied nod, he picked up the whole thing and started his way upstairs. As he passed by, he took note Yang was finally up. She was staring intently at a red-eyed blackbird outside her window that caused him to pause. After studying it and making sure it didn’t have a little feather crown, he moved on, knowing it wasn’t Qrow.
He didn’t want to think of who else it might be.
Instead, he stepped into the adjacent room, his daughter’s name already on his tongue.
The tray crashed loudly on the ground as he stared into the empty room, some drawers still open to indicate hastily put together gear and a single note resting on the rumpled bedsheets. He didn’t bother to read it, the horrible, sudden realization hitting him harder than an Ursa’s palm strike. Ears suddenly rushing as panic overwhelmed him, he sprinted back down the hall, leaping over the railing without a second thought.
He hardly felt the way the landing jarred his bones nor the way the cold of the frigid morning clung to his skin as he made his way outside, yelling at the top of his lungs, “RUBY!!”
The silence that replied felt like it might crush him.
Tai clutched at his shirt, certain his sternum was about to snap. No. Nononono. This wasn’t, she hadn’t…
Yet as his gaze fell upon the ground, spotting four sets of footprints heading down the front yard path, rapidly disappearing under the blanket of snow, he knew there was nothing left to doubt.
“God damn it Sums, why is she so much like you?” He cursed lowly, racing after the trail.
The docks weren’t far, just a few miles east. There would be delays, surely. Ruby was certainly still there, waiting for the next ferry. What a rude awakening she would get, when she finds out all she’d been waiting for was him grounding her into next century!
But just in case…
He pulled out his scroll, dialing a number by heart. “Pick up… come on, pick up!”
A click as the line finally opened. “This is Qrow.”
“Qrow-!”
“Unless this is important, buzz off.” Then the voicemail ended with a long-toned beep.
Tai could have screamed. “Qrow, it’s Tai. Call me when you get this. Ruby’s run off.”
He ended the call, only to immediately call again. Each ring seemed to drill at his eardrums until the message picked up again. He cut the call, frustration nearly making him fumble the device out of his hand. Just as he was about to try again, a sharp alert had him pulling it back.
Following after her.
He almost ran himself into a tree staring at that message, the three words saying almost nothing and way too much at the same time. He slammed his thumb into the call button – but predictably, Qrow didn’t bother to pick up this time either. That, or he had already shifted, leaving him unable to answer.
He tried texting anyways. Where are you? I’ll meet you there.
The lack of response stretched on. He tried not to focus on it, pocketing it so he could double his pace, the snow doing little to slow him.
He made it to the moor in record time, but even as he crossed the pier, he knew he was too late. There weren’t many people out and the few that were certainly weren’t wearing a prominent red hood. The Olympia wasn’t in its port either, and as he peered out across the water, couldn’t even spot a speck of it on the horizon.
What did catch his eyes was a little higher, a small form coasting underneath the cloud-line. His heart jumped, and he ran to the very edge of the pier. “QROW! COME BACK!”
His yell was as futile as the last, for the bird did not wheel around nor even seemed to hear him at all. As he watched him get further until he too became too hard to see, a terrifying thought hit him. What… What if that was the last time he ever saw him?
The guilt he’d been pushing down finally clawed its way free. Ravaged up his throat. Stung at his eyes. What a damn fool he was.
He took a breath, but his second attempt was nothing more than a weak, cracking, “Qrow…”
He didn’t expect an answer.
“Yeah?”
He spun almost immediately, his cascading emotions catching onto the ledge and holding tight as he caught sight of the worn and weary huntsman who stood only a few feet away.
He must have looked like quite the sight himself, because Qrow regarded him cautiously, saying quickly, “She’s only got a bit of a lead. I should be able to – Tai? What are you-?”
He crossed the distance between them with a crazed fervor, not letting him duck away as he grabbed onto an arm. Before the other man could even think to fight it, Tai was pulling him into a tight embrace. He buried his face into the side of his neck, breathing in the distinct scent of pine and whiskey that was Qrow.
It was several long moments before the tension trickled away, and long fingers found their way into his hair. Soothing. Familiar. “Hey, what’s all this about?”
“I just,” He tried to say. Like he had tried to keep things together. Like he had tried to lift his daughters’ wounded spirits. Like he had tried to hold onto hope. Everything within him shook. “I didn’t want to last thing between us to be a fight.”
The fingers in his hair froze. Qrow dropped his forehead to his hair, breathing out a frail, “Oh.”
Under the days that had been long and horrible, his emotions finally let go and Tai broke.
He was never one to cry, at least not the way most people did. There was no heaving sobs or hiccups, no wailing in pain. Rather, it tended to come forth with as little preamble as an early spring drizzle, light and almost soundless, but still there wetting the ground. He knew Qrow felt the slide of tears along his neck when another arm wound around his shoulders, his lean body melding against his. He spoke to him in soft, dulcet notes, but Tai didn’t so much pay attention to the words as much as the tone, letting it eventually calm the shivers and the tears.
Until he could find the strength to pull away, just enough to look up at him. “Do you know how terrifying it was, seeing the broadcast get hijacked? Having to go out to protect anyone I could when the panic set in, the entire time not knowing if you guys were alright? I’ve never felt more helpless.”
“I know.” Qrow murmured, the stony mask he’d been trying to keep up since everything went down finally crumbling, revealing the uncertainty and fear underneath. “I’m scared too, Tai. But trying to shelter Ruby and Yang like those four walls are enough to protect them from… whatever’s coming is foolish. And I know you know that, ‘cause you’re the same guy who did everything he could to give them the tools to survive this world.” His hand cupped his jaw, a thumb brushing over his cheek. “So what’s really going on, huh?”
He lowered his head, shame creeping up on him. “It’s just me. You two leaving, putting yourselves in danger – I can’t handle that. I’m not strong enough anymore. Or maybe I never was.”
“Bullshit.”
He blinked. Looked up. “What?”
“Bullshit.” Qrow repeated. “Tai, I’ve seen you get kicked down over and over again, and every time you get back up and ask for more. You take chances, put yourself on the line to hurt, in ways I wish I could. You may be a lot of things, but weak is not one of them.”
“Oh yeah?” Tai sniffled, wiped the rest of his tears away on the sleeve of his shirt. “Then what would you call me?”
“Mm… Handsome. Gentle. Kind.” A smirk quirked the edge of his lips. “A little stupid.”
He made an affronted sound, pushing his face away. “You jerk!”
“Heh, not an adjective, but I’ll take it.”
Tai rolled his eyes, but his gaze softened as Qrow nuzzled against his hand. He shifted so he could cup his face, tracing his features, ran a thumb through his scruff. “You’ll watch over her?”
“Always.” Qrow vowed.
“And… you’ll try and take care of yourself too?”
He dropped his chin, kissing his fingers. “Yeah.”
There were a thousand more things he wanted to make him promise – but he knew he was just delaying the inevitable. Trying to stall him, so he didn’t have to say goodbye. Never had to feel or wonder if this might be the last time.
He swallowed down another rush of emotion. “And you know I love you?”
Qrow replies, just as he had a thousand times before, “As sure as the sun rises.” before dipping his head, catching his mouth in a kiss.
Tai held him there as long as he could, until he had no choice but to let him go.
Watching the bird take to the wind only hurt a little less this time around. He stayed there on the pier, even long after Qrow had disappeared on the horizon, frozen like the ice around him. Whispered prayers to the Gods above that he’d see his daughter and husband again. Prayed that that kiss would not be their last. By the time he found the strength to move, a scatter of snow fell off him. A miniature storm he could finally let go of.

Enfield
Known for its vibrant high streets, greenery, and good transport links, Enfield is a popular choice for families and young couples looking to get on the property ladder. It’s also one of the most affordable London boroughs, with house prices being slightly less expensive than the national average. The property market in Enfield is vast and offers houses to suit almost every budget.
Enfield is a diverse city with a rich history. It was originally a hamlet in Middlesex, but it joined Greater London under the London Government Act of 1963. It now encompasses a number of small, village-like towns. Some of the best areas to live in Enfield include Oakwood, Southgate, and Winchmore Hill. Aside from being an attractive place to live, Enfield is a great commute to central London, with excellent transport links. The London Overground railway line serves the area, with stations at Turkey Street, Enfield Chase, Cockfosters, Southgate and Arnos Grove. There is also a new Meridian Water station, which will bring commuters to Liverpool Street in just 24 minutes. Check this out
In addition to transport, there are a number of parks and open spaces in the area. You can find a good selection of chain restaurants in the area, including Pizza Express, Nando’s and Domino’s. There is also a Jump In trampoline park and an Odeon cinema. The town has some historic features, including Forty Hall, a Grade 1-listed manor house. The town also boasts a modern European restaurant, The Beautiful South.
The borough is home to a variety of top-rated schools, including Enfield Heights and Highlands Secondary Schools. The public schools are generally above the national average. There are also plenty of other educational options for residents. There are a number of additional borrowing facilities available to help with a move, and there are several sporting and leisure locations in the area. For shopping, the Palace Gardens and Palace Exchange shopping centres are a stone’s throw from Enfield Town station. These two centres are home to a number of stores, including H&M, Next, and JD Sports. There is also a Pearson’s department store that sells upmarket ladies’ wear and exclusive brands. You can also find a good range of basic food outlets in the centre.
Enfield is also a popular destination for festivals, with the local area hosting many events throughout the year. It’s worth checking out the Rose & Crown Pub, which was once owned by a notorious highwayman, Mr. Mott. Other venues for entertainment include The Cricketers and The Beehive gastropub.
If you’re moving to Enfield, it’s important to choose an area that suits your lifestyle and budget. Aside from the cost of living, factors like the schools in the area and whether or not you can get a parking space are important considerations. The town is relatively safe, although there are some reports of violent crime, which is the second most common offense in the area. There are also several areas of outstanding natural beauty to be found in the borough, and the river that runs through the town is popular with people for its recreational value. The town also has a number of sports and leisure locations, including The Play Centre and TeamSport Indoor Karting. There are also seven golf courses in the area. Next blog article

Favorite Local Attractions Near Jackson, GA
Jackson, GA is a small, scenic, family-oriented town to the south of Atlanta. Jackson has been ranked as one of the best places to live in the state and is blessed with breathtaking natural surroundings. There are several great local attractions to see in and around town. Here are five of the best of them.
High Falls State Park
In this breathtakingly beautiful 1,050-acre state park, you can visit the region’s tallest cascading waterfalls. Walk for miles beside stretches of the glistening Towaliga River and stop beside the waters to picnic or cast a line for white bass and other fish. In fact, this park is known as one of the nation’s top family fishing destinations, and if you’re visiting the region with kids, it’s the perfect place to introduce them to angling.
The park’s lake covers 650 acres and has a campground beside it, where you can stay in well-equipped waterside yurts that come with furniture inside and a picnic table and fire grill outside. Stay to enjoy a few lazy days of boating, swimming, and geocaching in one of Georgia’s prettiest natural spots.
Doc Holliday’s Grave
If you’re into old west gunslinger tales and lore, then there’s an interesting sight to be found in nearby Griffin. The legendary dentist-turned-gunslinger Doc Holliday was born in Griffin, and according to his descendants, was buried there too. You can visit his final resting place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
High Falls Water Park
For a day of fun in the sun, take your children along to spend an afternoon frolicking in the pools and play areas of High Falls Water Park. At this clean, well-kept water park there’s a large family pool, two terrific water slides, and a pirate ship play area. You can sunbathe beside the pool in lounge chairs with sun umbrellas to shade you, and even hire the water park out for birthdays and other events.
Dauset Trails Nature Center
For more of an educational experience, pay a visit to this lovely nature center, which has a visitor’s center surrounded by acres of scenic forest. At the visitor’s center, you can learn about early farming life in the region through closely interacting with much of the state’s finest flora and fauna. The Wonder Room underneath the center has reptiles on display and other natural curiosities.

Granger’s Sister part I (reader x Draco Malfoy)
part II | part III | part IV | part V | part VI | part VII
Not Requested: A few people at Hogwarts knew about Hermione’s family in the Muggle World. Even fewer knew about her older sister. A complete muggle, you kept silent and lived as a muggle with your family until Hermione asked you to go visit her at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The wind was blowing through your hair, making it flutter madly, bursting out like flames from under the helmet. It was fortunately not long enough to be getting into your mouth. Unfortunately, Hagrid's was. You tried fighting it for a while, at first, but forfeited in the end.
Had someone told you before that in a few hours you would be sitting in the back of a flying motorcycle, flying towards a magic school, you would have laughed and punched them in the face for taking the piss out of you. But there you were... being driven by a giant and you were clearly not dreaming, because all of that hair felt too damn real.
"Half-giant, actually. My ol' dad was a normal guy – by the age o' 6, I could pick'im up an' hang'im in the coat hanger. Oh, how he'd laugh when I did that." You smiled. Hagrid seemed like one of the kindest of people you had ever met. The embodiment of a gentle giant. Oups, half-giant. He had told you all about Hogwarts and how great Dumbledore was and you couldn't see his eyes, but judging by the tone of his voice, they were certainly glowing. He told you about the Dark Forest and the Black Lake and all the creatures that lurked about the school grounds and the mere thought of some of them made your skin crawl.
Oh, also, Werewolves were an actual thing. How crazy was that?!
"Well, I should have gone first, because nothing about my life can top that. I mean, my parents are dentists, I'm going to graduate soon..." You laughed. "And my sister a witch." He turned to you and smiled.
"Hermione, y'know... she's abou' the brightest witch of her generation." There was obvious admiration and affection in his voice and your heart warmed up a bit at his words. You had always been mad-proud of Herminie - even before you found out she was a witch.
"She has always been the best in everything she did - such a perfectionist. She has this incredible memory and I admire her so much for how motivated she is. It looks like she inherited all the motivation of our family and I... despite having been born first... was left with nothing." You sighed and Hagrid's face became a bit stiff – he was clearly not good at comforting people. "I mean... nothing except the good looks." You laughed, giving him a sly wink. Hagrid laughed at your cheek and patted your shoulder. "Wow, wow, hands on the steering wheel, please." You were already a tad envious on your sister.
It was not long after, that you caught a glimpse of a tower poking up from the clouds and then, bit by bit, Hogwarts began to unfold in front of your eyes. You were mesmerized. You had never seen anything as majestic. The grounds of the castle were swarming with black-dressed students, walking hurriedly towards class and every bit of the campus exuded magic. You fit like a fish in the middle of a forest. Hagrid must have noticed you holding your breath, or the sparkle in your eyes because soon, his voice pierced through the swooshing sound of the wind – that was blowing slower by the minute. You were getting close to landing.
"Beautiful, ain' it?" You nodded slowly, mouth agape, too overwhelmed to articulate a verbal answer. "Hold on tight, we're landing." You tried to wrap your arms around him as much as possible and closed your eyes, hanging onto his coat tightly. With a thud that made your stomach jump up into your chest, followed by various moaning sounds coming from the motorcycle, you had finally arrived. You jumped off the bike and spun around, taking everything in.
"Careful! Don't get too close to the Whomping Willow." Hagrid warned, pulling you by the collar of your denim jacket as if you were a mere puppy.
"Wow, Hagrid... this is beyond imagination. And they were worried that I would talk about this in the muggle world?! No one would be able to even begin to imagine such beauty." You held your breath the entire way to Hagrid's hut, where you were to leave your luggage - that Hagrid was carrying for you.
"Ye' remind me of yer sister the first time she got'ere." Hagrid replied with a smile that felt somewhat nostalgic. "I remember it like it was yesterday." You smiled back and patted his arm. Your sister only had 1 or 2 years left at Hogwarts and you could understand by her letters that her friends and her were very close to Hagrid.
"Don't get yourself down by thinking too far into the future, Hagrid." You smiled encouragingly. "You know, living in the future can be as destructive as living in the past. Just enjoy the moment while it lasts." Your eyes fell upon a rustic looking hut, right by the edge of the forest you'd just flown above. Hagrid extended a hand, presenting the hut humbly. "It is absolutely lovely, Hagrid. It's just as magical as the castle – fits these grounds like a glove."
"Why thank yeh'!" By the redness of his cheeks, you could tell that it meant a whole deal to him. You complimented his humongous pumpkins and unique home décor and played a bit with Fang before he egged you on to explore a bit of the castle's ground. "The forest's out of boundaries, eh?" You nodded excitedly.
"You may not believe me, but gigantic spiders and werewolves are not something I'm dreaming to meet here." You answered and made your way, running up the hill right towards the castle. "Dumbledore will find ye' when the time's right!" Hagrid yelled from the hut's door and you waved in response.
Oh, how you wished you got to live there too... you finally understood why Hermione always spoke of the place as if it was out of this world. For all you knew, it actually was. You walked around the castle for a bit, until you found your way inside an interior garden, where you finally sat on a bench to catch your breath. If you breathed enough of the magic air, you hoped you'd suddenly turn magical too and you got to stay. The life you'd have left behind was nothing worth pondering upon – you'd have given it in for that any second.
"Are you lost?" A voice interrupted you, just as you were about to summon the devil and sell your soul if he let you stay. Instead, you turned around and your eyes fell upon the figure of a tall, blonde-haired boy, watching you with a pair of magnificent grey eyes. You stared at him for a moment, your eyes travelling up and down, before you finally spoke.
"Hi." You smirked. "I wasn't lost before you showed up. Now I'm lost into your eyes." Your smile widened at the cheekiness of your dumb pick up line – wait, did they have them in the wizard world too? Judging by his lost, confused look and red cheeks, you supposed not. "I mean, I have no clue where I am, but I have no particular place to be, so I guess that I can't really get lost." You added, making the boy frown thoughtfully, his cheeks still flushed
"You are not a student at this school." He explained, making his previous question clearer.
"Ah, great sense of observation... so those gorgeous eyes are not only for show." He smiled and looked away, biting his lip and making you escape a laugh. He really was handsome, now that you had gotten a better look at him. The damn school just kept getting better and better. "I am visiting." You finally gave him a serious answer.
"Visiting?" He asked, now more confused than ever and his attention was all yours once more.
"Visiting." You emphasized as his eyes scanned you from head to toe. You were, indeed, easy to spot. You wore a white, summery dress that contrasted the oversized denim jacket and platform leather boots. Your long, dark hair was loose and had some nice waves in it and you had made yourself a daisy headband while you sat by the lake earlier.
"I didn't know that casual visits were allowed here."
"Neither did I, but Dumbledore agreed to it and here I am. And here you are... thank you Lord." You smiled and finally stood from the bench. You made your way towards him confidently and stopped one foot away from him, reaching your hand in front of you and introducing yourself - by your name only. "Hm, you are not a Gryffindor." You hummed and he blushed slightly as you ran your fingers over the embroidered snake on his robe.
"Oh, Salazar no..." He exclaimed in disgust, rolling his eyes despitefully. "Slytherin." He declared proudly, picking your interest. He could be cocky, you liked that... in the right amount.
"Hm... don't mind if I do slither in." You narrowed the distance between the two of you and pulled open his robe, wrapping it around both of you. "It's chilly here." Your bodies were now touching, your faces only inches apart as you looked up at him, smiling devilishly. You had no idea when you'd gotten that bold, but you were only going to be there for a short time and you were never going to see him again, so you had nothing to lose.
"You can have it." He said, sliding out of the robe and stepping away from you, leaving you behind wide-eyed.
"Oh, I don't mind sharing, c'mon." You laughed and invited him back, sliding your hands into the sleeves and opening up the robe.
"I'm fine, I was actually hot anyways." He replied almost immediately, taking a step back. You smirked and bit your lip.
"If you ask me, you still are." You winked as his face became inhumanly red.
"C-class is starting, I must go." He excused himself and left you there speechless, but smiling to yourself.
***
"Cute." You thought watching him leave. "He's hot, what was he so shy about? Maybe I came on too strong." You pondered, pulling his robe closer to you. It smelled incredible and you were a sucker for a man that smelled good. "Damn, he never told me his name." It was not often that you went straight for a guy like that, but your time there was short and it was not often that you met someone who struck you in the way that he had done.
"Sister?" A familiar voice called from the doorstep and you raised your eyes to meet Hermione's.
"Herminie!" You exclaimed excitedly, meeting her halfway and hugging her tightly. Your little sister was the apple of your eye. You loved her dearly, for she was so worthy of all the love in the universe, so she more-than-deserved yours.
"Ugh, still calling me that?" She hissed through gritted teeth.
"Always." You answered kissing her head.
"How was your trip?" Her hand slipped under your arm and pulled you towards the castle.
"Right now, even taking a piss would feel exciting, so how do you think flying in a motorcycle felt?!" You exclaimed looking at her with sparkly eyes. "I still fear that I might be in a coma and imagining everything, but I still have some of Hagrid's hair on my clothes, so I guess it's real." Hermione laughed, leaning on your shoulder. "The thing that saves me is knowing that my dry brain could never come up with something this incredible."
"You smell... wait, thinking of it, where'd you get a robe from?" She asked analyzing you carefully. "And a Slytherin one to top it off. Ugh." She jeered.
"It was a welcome gift." You smiled innocently, but Hermione still knew you too well.
"Did you steal it?" Her eyes were burning holes into your soul and you burst out laughing.
"What an awful accusation. I was actually telling the truth." You answered trying to feign offended, but she knew you like the palm of her hand.
"Making someone give it to you is not receiving a present..." Hermione laughed and picked up her pace.
"Wow..." An unknown voice broke the sound of your steps as your eyes fell on a group of guys. For a second there, looking on the right, you feared that your brain might have been overheated, because you were suddenly seeing double.
"Sister, these are, in order from left to right: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnigan and Ron's twin brothers, Fred and George." You looked at everyone, trying your best to remember their names... then, overwhelmed by the mass of people, trying hard to remember your own. "Everyone, this is my sister." You waved and you swore that half of those guys were drooling. You weren't some supernatural beauty, but you guessed you did stand out a bit.
"Oh, what is it? Is it a secret meeting of the 'worst things that ever happened to Hogwarts'?" A weirdly familiar voice rang from behind you right as Hermione arranged the robe's hood on your head. "And look... naturally, Granger's the head of it." Your head shot up when you heard your name, but then looked at Hermione to see that she was now shaking slightly.
"Shut up, Malfoy!" Ron spat angrily. You instantly liked him.
"Uhhh, or else? Did they make poorness contagious now?" The other guy answered, making Ron turn almost as red as his hair.
"Just go away, Malfoy." Hermione spoke, her voice shaking a bit.
"Don't tell me what to do, you filthy mud-blood." Hermione turned towards you, embarrassed, trying to keep her composure, but you noticed that she was getting teary eyed. That was when you'd had it - what was a mud-blood anyways?
"Who in the bloody hell do you think you are, you piece of..." Your words got stuck in your throat when you turned around and your eyes met those of the guy from earlier. Your eyebrows shot up incredulously and a wide, mean grin appeared on your face. The little sheep was a bully?! By the look of it, he was choking on his words as well, because he was speechless again.
You would have been amused by the irony of the situation, if you didn't remember that he had just insulted your sister.
"Wait... you seem familiar. Have we met before or do you just look like my next boyfriend?" You spoke loudly, making everyone look at the both of you dumbfounded. Hermione's eyes widened when she figured that it was his robe that you were wearing. "Did you come looking for me?" You flirted, walking closer to him.
"N-no." He stuttered, making your eyes turn a bit meaner.
"Changed your mind about sharing the robe?" You inquired, walking closer to him and opening up the robe. He shook his head in response, making you bite your lip. "Oh... cat's got your tongue?" You were, once more, inches away from his face, your fingers tracing his smooth, ivory skin.
"K-keep it. I'll-I'll just buy new ones." He forced an answer, trying not to look as intimidated as he was in front of the others.
"Thank you, love." You replied getting closer and brushing your lips against his cheek before placing a soft kiss on it. A second later, the same fingers that had caressed his skin were now clenched tightly around his jaw, your long, red nails pressing down into his skin. "Listen, boy toy. As cute as you might be, don't you dare bother my Hermione again." You hissed angrily, looking straight into his eyes.
"Or-or else?" He stuttered, despite trying to push back. You laughed and let go of his face.
"Listen, puppet. You don't know half the things I'd to for her, so don't push me. Alright?" You smiled as you pulled his head down and pushing it back up into a nod. "Good boy."
"Don't touch me." He snapped, pulling his wand out.
"Babe, take that thing out of my face before I shove it up your ass." You growled grabbing his wand wand pulling him closer to you. "Just go." You whispered, leaning towards him, your lips millimeters apart and blowing him a kiss. You let go and walked back towards Hermione, putting your arm around her neck and hugging her, leaving a dumbstruck Draco behind. "Bye love, see you around!" You yelled looking back at him and winking.

Local Parks in Birmingham, AL 35223
Nicole Dorsey is an artist living in Memphis, Tennessee who works at Carpenter Art Garden, which is located just down the street from Overton Park in Binghamton. As part of our Overton Park Stories project, Dawn Vinson shared with us how her relationship to the Overton Park has changed over her lifetime.
My family has deep ties to Memphis. We used to visit several parks when growing up, but never Overton park. Over time, Overton Park became a park that Black people couldn't go to, and my parents held onto that perception for years, preferring Tom Lee or Glenview Parks instead. Later in life, when I was old enough to go to the zoo and to the museum, I never went to the park. It wasn't until eight years ago when we moved into our home on East Parkway that I was introduced to the park and grew to love it As someone who has never been to Memphis before, Vaughan didn't have any preconceived notions about the city and just wanted to walk around and explore the parks.
Over the past eight years, Overton Park has become an important part of our lives. We go for walks here every morning, and have gotten to know some other people who live nearby. There are so many wonderful social groups that meet in parks. Because we walk here every day, we've been able to talk to lots of different people, including artists like Guy Church, other book lovers, and community activists. We also enjoy attending concerts at the Levitt Shell when we can. Vaughan loves the feeling of freedom and balance he gets from spending time with nature. It’s a great way to get all of your steps in. It's relaxing for me to connect with nature every day. Until I moved here, I had no idea there was an Old Forest. Now it’s a regular part of my daily life! Overton Park has been extremely welcoming. It was time for me to realize that my negative perception of coffee had been all in my own head.
One of my favorite memories was bringing a small group of children from Carpenter Art Garden to Overton Park for an afternoon nature tour with Fields. The output consists of two parts:1. A summary of the paraphrase.2. The original input text. We had a magical time with a butterfly who followed us around and landed on each of our heads in turn.
We continued our tour, and we successfully managed to get everyone – even the youngest ones and the most adamant one among them – to stop being afraid. As Fields pointed out and named the various plants, trees and critters that we encountered that day, my own view of the park changed, as well. That experience taught me to pay more attention and appreciate the park even better.
Overton Park is an amazing place. It's wonderful to see how it has grown over time, how it has become a place where everyone can go to. It has a diverse, eclectic mix of visitors, from the homeless and wealthy. We live in one of the few remaining houses across East Parkway that hasn't been torn down to make way to I-40. The interstate was supposed be built through our land. If it hadn't, I wouldn't be experiencing the park as well as I am now, so I'm very grateful that it did.
