some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

We saw Uma, Kai, and Myya getting ready, now let’s check in on the lovebirds 😏 first up, Ishida & Ryuji!

Ryuji sits on the edge of the bed, twirling a rainbow flag in his hand. He tries to focus on how the fabric twists around the wooden stick, but it’s doing nothing to quell his nerves. Maybe it would be better to back out. But it’s probably too late, and he really doesn’t want to. He shouldn’t feel like he has to, but he can’t help the nagging fear in the back of his mind. This is still all so new.

If someone recognizes him, it could get back to his family—to his father. He doesn’t give a damn about what they’ll have to say about him. It’s what they’ll say about who he’s with that’s concerning.

A knock at the door spares him from any further spiraling. While he’s not looking forward to the company, he’s grateful for the distraction. He swings the door open and looks down at a sea of blue and teal.

“I half expected you not to answer,” Uma says, taking a step back from the doorway. “Just making sure y'all weren’t… you know.”

Ryuji raises an eyebrow.

“Don’t give me that look. I know how you two get.”

He rolls his eyes at that.

“Where’s your better half?” she asks, leaning to the side to peek into the room.

“In the bathroom, getting ready,” Ryuji tells her as she pushes past him and into the room. Ryuji lets the door swing shut before moving back to his spot at the edge of the bed.

“Ishida! Are you ready yet? We gotta move if we want a drink at the bar before the crowds.” Uma calls out, standing in the middle of the room.

“I thought we were getting drinks after the parade?” Ishida answers back.

“It’s called pre-gaming sweetheart. Mama wants a drink now.” She glances over to Ryuji, “and your boyfriend looks like he needs one.”

Ryuji snorts.

“You know he’a not much of a drinker,” Ishida says, coming out of the bathroom.

The t-shirt he’d shown Ryuji before going to change looks completely different. It’s cut now like a tank top, showcasing his tattoo sleeve on his left arm. He's also wearing a long sleeveless rainbow cardigan. The sheer material almost touches the floor and flows like a cape when he walks. The anxious knots in Ryuji’s stomach morph into butterflies at the sight.

“There he is!” Uma exclaims. “Get over here my Pan twin, let me look at ya!”

Ishida grins and walks over to greet his friend.

“Do a little spin for me?” Uma motions.

Ishida complies, rotating his body in a circle. Ryuji watches fondly, as he showcases his outfit. He tries not to focus on how the material pulls taunt and reveals endless strips of pale marble skin. It’s making his mouth dry.

“Love how you cut the sleeves off to show that ink!” Uma praises. “And this—“ she grabs at the sheer material—“so cute!”

“Thank you,” Ishida smiles. “I wish I could have cropped the shirt more like yours, but it would have cut the words off.”

“I see what you mean, but it looks good. You look good. We better make you a sign that says ‘I’m taken’ or something. Otherwise, tall, dark, and handsome over here will get us kicked out before we even get in.”

Ishida scoffs and shakes his head. “Everyone’s going to be focused on the event.”

“Sure, until they see your fine ass walk in,” she winks.

Something in Ryuji’s stomach twists. He rubs the skin between his thumb and index finger to try and relax.

“Maybe so,” Ishida says, glancing over at Ryuji. "But as you said, I’m taken.”

“You little heartbreaker,” Uma pouts. “But that’s ok because they have my fine single ass to mingle with!” She flips her hair and snaps her fingers.

Ishida laughs. “Are you going to behave yourself tonight?’

“Honey, when do I ever behave?”

Ishida shrugs in agreement.

“Shouldn’t we get moving?” Ryuji says, walking towards the door. He misses the look that Uma and Ishida share.

“Alright, I just wanted to make sure you were getting a move on.” She says, walking towards the door. “Myya and Kai-Aris will be heading down any minute. Myya is putting some glitter on him.”

“He’s letting Myya put the glitter on him?” Ishida checks.

“He asked her to do it,” Uma shrugs.

Ishida casts a worried look at Ryuji.

“I’m going to check on the other two. Just head downstairs when you’re ready,” Uma instructs. “Oh, you may want to check on Astraea. Kai says she was grabbing water, but she should have been back by now. Make sure she isn’t going full Mother Hen on us. We don’t need a first aid kit or anything.”

“I’ll text her,” Ishida says.

“Thank you!” Uma calls out.

Ryuji shuts the door behind her and walks briskly back over to the side of the bed. He sits with a huff.

“You wanna tell me what that was about?” Ishida asks.

Ryuji shrugs. “Nothing, I just thought we should get going. She’s always complaining about being late.” He picks the flag up from the bed and begins twirling it again.

Ishida eyes him curiously. He walks over, and puts himself just in-between Ryuji’s legs. “What’s wrong?” he asks, tilting Ryuji’s chin up so that he’ll look at him.

Ryuji stares, taking in the details he couldn’t see from where he’d been sitting earlier. Ishida’s eyes are outlined in bright blue and pink instead of the usual red. Ryuji guesses that it’s meant to look like the pansexual pride flag. With Ishida's golden eyes representing the yellow part. It’s beautiful and clever, and so very Ishida. But the warmth of fondness quickly turns to uneasiness as Uma’s comment replays in his mind and he feels himself frowning. He’s not the jealous type, but he remembers how it felt seeing those men flirt and spew their catcalls at Ishida that night at the bar. And how his fist didn’t waiver when he threw it back. They weren’t even dating then. But now Ishida is his, and while that should bring him comfort, it also brings fear.

He watches Ishida move to rub the spot in-between his eyebrows. A signal that he must still be scowling. Ryuji softens his gaze, and Ishida smiles, warm and sweet. Uma is right, Ryuji thinks to himself. He’s going to get them kicked out. Sighing, he wraps his arms around Ishida’s waist and pulls him in close.

“Nothings wrong,” he says, pressing his face to Ishida’s stomach.

Ishida hums, moving to tangle his fingers in Ryuji’s hair. “Is that why you’re thinking so loudly?”

Ryuji chuckles. He’s become so transparent. “I just don’t want to mess this up,” he admits.

“How would you mess it up?”

“Maybe we should make you a sign.” Ryuji says and he feels more than he hears Ishida laugh.

“I told you we should have gone with the matching boyfriend shirts,” Ishida says. “But you wanted something more subtle.”

Ryuji nips lightly at Ishida’s abs, causing him to yelp. “Maybe I need to find a different way to let people know you’re mine.” He says, watching the ends of Ishida’s mouth twitch.

“Oh? What do you have in mind?”

Between one blink and the next, Ryuji swaps their positions so that Ishida presses into the mattress and he hovers above him. He leans down to kiss the side of Ishida’s neck, relishing in the way he shivers beneath him.

“I thought you wanted us to get moving?” Ishida breathes.

“We are moving,” Ryuji answers, pressing another kiss to his neck.

“Uma’s going to be mad if we’re late,” Ishida warns, taking Ryuji’s face in his hands.

“Eh,” Ryuji shrugs. “She knows how we get.”

Ishida smiles and pulls Ryuji down on top of him.

so sad that i knew about michelle gomez only from doctor who

i think she caught my attention in caretaker and then dark water opened me the whole magical michelle gomez and i was like let me rewatch that 654653416534653 times to see that woman 

and then i started googling about her, wtaching things with her, i started watching green wing breathly for the first time and then more attentive for the second time and then really really attentive for the 3rd time and then 30 times more to be sure that i watched everything attentive

then BAD EDUCATION oh my god that tv series, best jokes AND mICHELLE SLAYS EVERY SECOND

and then i think i watched teh book group, really weird tv series, but michelle gomez is so falwless, i couldnt help myself

Again, I said that for lack for a better word. And the evdince that he is a falwless character and made to just love Marinette and nothing else is in every episode he is in. A lot of the fandom see it "daming"

Maybe you not seeing that is --like you said-- your own interpretation of his character.

I don't think he's badly written he's written to serve the role of being perfect in everyway. Again he's more of a trope than a character

But in the end of the day he's fictional, so is Marinette and Adrien we are not. We have different opinions that's not gonna change by this convo. So let's agree to dissagree

A rant about Luka’s “flawlessness”

One day, the MLB fandom is going to realize that there’s nothing wrong with Luka being a kind, gentle, and loving character towards Marinette just because they’re so used to sloppy, flip-floppy, slowburn, chock-full-of-issues relationships and think that’s the way an “interesting’ relationship ought to be. There’s nothing wrong with vanilla love.

It would be nice to see more of Luka’s life and relationships outside of his affection for Marinette, yes, and it would be nice to see some weaknesses from him as well. I fully agree that those would add to Luka’s dynamicness as a person, as well as strengthen his character in terms of how the audience views him.

But let’s get really honest about something. Most of the people who are begging for a flawed Luka are love-square shippers, and it’s pretty obvious why. I damn near doubt it’s because they genuinely want to see more fluidity in Luka’s arc so they can learn to like him. They want Luka’s character to be problematic in some form, so that his relationship with Marinette can be problematic in some form, and then they have a platform to lift Adrien on a higher pedestal and say “he’s the better boyfriend, uwuwu!!!11!”

I don’t think Luka’s lack of all-up-in-your-face flaws makes him boring; in fact, it honestly makes his character kind of refreshing. I’m tired of endgame relationships where they treat each other poorly or they’re so oblivious to each other or they’re borderline obsessed with each other or they lack significant development in their relationship from story to story. I’m tired of writers thinking that endgame relationships don’t need to show good communication or emotional growth because they’re the endgame relationship and everyone will automatically get behind it no matter what.

 I like seeing boys be kind and sweet and supportive to the girls that they like. I like seeing girls feel blushy and peaceful around the boys that they like. I like seeing partners be happy at some point in the story, and feel like they’re at peace. Vanilla love is severely underrated because everyone is convinced that toxicity and problematicness and lack of growth/good communication and theatrics are the only ways to write an “interesting” relationship. If that’s your idea of the type of relationship you think Marinette should be in, I’m thankful that you’re not in charge of the show. 

Lukanette shippers didn’t ask for someone like Luka, but we’re damn thankful we got him, because his interactions with Marinette show stronger support, communication, and selflessness than anything I’ve seen so far. I don’t care if Adrienette is endgame. I’d rather see Marinette grow with someone she can feel calm with and express herself to properly so she can approach her relationship w/ Adrien in a better way. 

PS. Luka’s affection for Marinette doesn’t even begin to compare with Marinette’s affection for Adrien. While Marinette’s crush has teetered towards being an inappropriate obsession a couple of times, Luka doesn’t follow her to that degree. As far as I know, he doesn’t have her saved on his phone screen or have posters of her on his wall. He doesn’t act pissy when she gets close to another boy who isn’t him. Stop comparing apples to oranges.
