since i ship all the couple options of the marauders, here's how i see their different dynamics:
prongsfoot- codependent, literally always together, hate on everyone else, pda to the extreme, literal soulmates, love each other in every single way, would literally never break up, act like a married couple after dating for one hour, their pet name for each other are 'mate' and 'bro', constantly wearing each other's clothes despite having very different style, can easily communicate with just looking at each other, the It couple
wolfstar- sirius is constantly tackling remus and forcing him to talk about his feelings & stop him from running away whenever he's upset, remus is constantly staring at sirius in awe, people (including remus) are constantly questioning why sirius is with remus & sirius gets so pissed off by it, they have nerdy little discussions about various subjects & recommend articles to each other, not super into pda & but nap together a lot
prongstail- peter is obsessed with james & loves watching him show off & work out, james is very pleased to have someone who enjoys watching him show off, peter makes james protect him & fight people for him, james likes going to where peter lives and pretending he's poor (alexa, play common people by pulp), james thrives on having an audience and peter enjoys being james' audience
padtail- on and off constantly, sirius is mean to peter and peter finds it hot "stop being so mean to me or i swear to god i'm gonna fall in love with you", they play chess all the time and then proceed to fight when the other wins (very falsettos core), peter knows about muggle pop culture & sirius loves learning about that, talk shit about other people for fun all the time, they are a mess together & cause the most morally ambiguous chaos
moonchaser- extremely fluffy ship, would literally never argue somehow, actually no they'd argue about pda cause james loves it and remus is terrified of it, very much a sugar daddy x sugar baby couple idc that's literally canon, they study together (james studies for half an hour then doodles on library books to keep remus company), both very responsible so their relationship is well organised if that makes sense?
moontail- probably the most toxic <3, peter is constantly gaslighting remus & remus is just like "yeah it probably is my fault :/", however also remus is the nicest person ever to peter so peter tries to not hurt remus, they understand each other well, peter finds remus' werewolf form very hot and remus is very uncomfortable by that, peter tries teaching remus all the trends to help him fit in more

To put it into perspective, the same number of people texted me asking if I was okay when William Finn died as they did when I was a single mile away from the evacuation zone of the worst fires in LA history.
I found out while I was at work. I work in service, and I managed to stay professional, to swallow my emotions, for a grand total of ten minutes before a customer was slightly mean to me, and I immediately broke down crying. It’s embarrassing to explain to all the kind people who tried to comfort me that, actually, it wasn’t really the angry, unforgiving customer that had caused this reaction, but the death of a man in his seventies who I had never met.
The thing is, I can’t totally explain why this struck such a blow to my foundations. I knew he wasn’t young. I knew, to some extent, that his health was failing. And, once again, I didn’t know him. But I think he’s the reason I know myself.
As a lonely high school student with no real sense of my own identity, I found myself and the community I desperately needed in the very queer and very Jewish online fandom that formed around the 2016 Lincoln Center revival of Falsettos. My connection to Judaism, my gender and sexual identities, they all trace back to what I learned from that community.
As a lost college student slipping into deeper and deeper depression, my joy revolved around an obsession with the New York theatre scene that had its roots firmly embedded in the deep dives I had taken into William Finn’s works and the history that surrounded them.
As an aimless college dropout, I remembered the musical theatre class I had taken with In Trousers’ own Alison Fraser, the lifetime of musical theatre that I had done with the person who had introduced me to Falsettos in the first place, the way it felt to perform, and especially the way it felt to perform a work of genius like Finn’s songs. I auditioned for musical theatre school with “Love Me For What I Am,” from the original 1979 version of In Trousers.
As a frustrated musical theatre student, whenever I felt my love for the artform slipping away, as it can when a passion becomes an obligation–when your favorite songs become graded assignments, and your excited analysis becomes an essay with a deadline–it was Finn’s work that reignited that fire.
No other body of work has embedded itself so deeply in my life and my soul as William Finn’s. None have felt so intertwined with my being, and with the trajectory of my life.
I have, over the years, met most of the 2016 Broadway cast, flown cross-country to see a production of A New Brain, and of course made everyone in my university class groan over and over again by bringing up Falsettos for the thousandth time (I swear it was just relevant a lot). I could tell a hundred stories of friendships and accomplishments and survival that only happened because of the inspiration brought by the songs and stories of William Finn. They are a part of me. Irreversibly so. What breaks my heart, what will never stop breaking my heart, is that I never got to tell him any of those stories. That I never got to thank him for altering my brain chemistry–for changing my life.
I hope he knew anyway. I hope today, and will always hope, that he knew how much his art meant to so many people. People who felt seen, maybe for the first time–-people who found community when they thought they had none–-people who found themselves and found their way–-because of his shows, his music, his characters. I hope he knew that his bravery and boldness, the stories he chose to spotlight, changed Broadway, and by extension the entire media landscape, forever. I don’t think he gets enough credit for that. But I hope he knew how true it was, and how true it remains.
The grief I feel today is bigger than it has any right to be. As I sit here writing this eulogy for someone who never knew I existed, trying to put into words everything these shows have meant to me over the years–-as Mr. Bungee rides around my TV screen on a Razor scooter, courtesy of the bootleg recording of the Encores! Production of A New Brain–-as I try to come up with a way to feel okay-–to create something that can somehow honor his tremendous legacy-–the one thing I keep coming back to is the most cliched conclusion possible. That the source of this grief is a wellspring of immense gratitude that I will never be able to fully express. But I’ll try my best. In whatever ways I can.
And I’ll start here. Sharing these stupid, complicated, unexplainable feelings with whoever is willing to read it. I’ll start here. With a deep, emphatic thank you.
Thank you, Mr. Finn. For getting me here. For making me who I am. Thank you.

So, recently, I made a silly post calling Greek mythology basically fanfiction. To my surprised delight, the myth nerds- summoned by my technical inaccuracy- rose from the depths of Tumblr. This is in their honor. 😉
🗡Homer, furiously storms up Hesiod's house, flings the door open with a bang, and shouts, “You shitty, pedantic, bag of wind!”
🖋Hesiod, who had been peacefully writing right up until that moment: “What?! Who– Homer??”
🗡Homer stomps up and slaps down an open copy of The Theogony onto the desk, jabbing an accusing finger at a specific line: “You ass! You said you wouldn't put this bullshit in your obsessive attempt at mythological genealogy! I ought to use this bloody doorstop of a book to knock the teeth out of your lying mouth!”
🖋Hesiod, now getting mad, leaps to his feet: “I never said that! I said I'd think about it! And I did think about it, and decided I wasn't leaving out a character just because it messes with your headcanon, Homer!”
🗡Homer: “Odysseus only had one son because his family line was cursed by Zeus!”
🖋Hesiod, throwing his hands in the air: “You literally made that up!”
🗡Homer, offended on behalf of his ancestors: “I did not! That was how my Grandpa told the story!”
🖋Hesiod: “Then your grandpa is the only one on this whole gods-blessed country who tells it that way! Everyone else knows about The Telegony!”
🗡Homer, pointing a finger at him: “Yeah, and everyone hates it! Do you deny that everyone fucking hates it?”
🖋Hesiod narrows his eyes, but doesn't deny it.
🗡Homer, triumphant: “Nobody ever mentions it— except people who hate happy endings and nerds like you! You never hear a child beg,” here Homer clasps his hands under his chin and speaking in a mocking falsetto, “‘Papa, tell me how clever Odysseus was murdered by his own son. That's my faaaavorite story ever! ‘Cause it’s just. like. Oedipus Rex!’”
🖋Hesiod, hands on hips, ready to die on this hill: “It doesn't matter whether the story is good or not. I am attempting for as much accuracy as possible, and your grandfather is apparently the only man in Greece who believes Odysseus could shack up with two beautiful goddesses and not produce at least one son!”
🗡Homer scoffs and rolls his eyes: “Circe turns men into pigs. Why the fuck would she want a son? Why would she keep one?”
🖋 Hesiod, face starting to turn an alarming shade of red, sputters: “That’s besides the point!”
🗡Homer, feeling the gleeful vindictiveness of a fanboy with a ship and an agenda: “The point is that everyone would be happier if Penelope and Odysseus lived peacefully the rest of their lives, and Telemachus married Nausicaä! That makes much more sense and is more satisfying narratively. We Greeks have enough tragedies. Let’s have some happy endings!”
🖋Hesiod, who's had enough at this point, decides to go on the offensive and hit a sore point: “For someone who claims to dislike tragedies that destroy a couple's happily ever after, you didn't hesitate to end your Troy story with one!”
🗡Homer, shocked by this angle of attack, rallies: “Achilles and Patroclus were not a couple! They were closer than brothers! Their relationship is deep and meaningful, but that doesn’t mean they were lovers! Why does everyone think they’re lovers?!”
🖋Hesiod, willing and able to be petty: “Well, according to my grandpa, Achilles bottomed. Why don't you add that to The Iliad?”
*From this point, all that can be heard are crashing sounds and language that would make a pirate blush. Later, the two writers were seen together at the local bar, both nursing pints and matching black eyes. Hesiod never does retract his belief that Odysseus had more than one son, and Homer never stops being salty about it. Fandom never changes.*

HEY DOCC!!! So, I came up with an idea. How about Blade, Caelus, Kokichi (i'm a sucker for Kokichi) and Shuichi with an idol!reader who writes a special song for them?
Kokichi is literally my favorite Danganronpa character🥰, hope you'll enjoy
Trigger Warning: Yandere, Obsessive behaviour, Possessive behaviour
Blade: He isn't really one for music, at least not happy and sappy music about happiness and fighting on. But he has to admit that hearing your voice has always helped him calm down, before he had ever even seen you his obsession began.
Even after having introduced himself to you, Blade never imagined you would sing a song about him.... he feels flattered, there is just one problem, so many bugs are listening in on this song clearly meant for him, he wants to deal with them, but he'll wait until you're done, he doesn't want you to stop singing just yet.
"You don't need an audience, I am all that you will need, your songs, your beauty and you, all of it is mine"
Caelus: Whenever he hears one of your songs he feels like he's just melting from it, he loves each and every one of them, in fact you could be screaming in falsetto and he would still think it was the sound of an angel.
So when Caelus listens to a song clearly about him, well he is shocked first of all, but said shock is replaced by joy soon after, the next time you meet him he will run up to you and hug you, a tight enough grip that you can't get away, this song just must mean that you love him, right?
"I loved it, thank you so much... uhm, would you mind singing it for me right now, I would really like to hear it in person"
Kokichi Ouma: This little shit doesn't like that you're an idol at all, sure it's fun to rile up your fans but he just can't stand everyone else gazing up at what is his, he will probably post toxic comments about you so you can come cry to him about it, not knowing it was he who sent them in the first place.
Kokichi likes to be the one in control, he likes to think he never blushes, but when he hears you sing a song that is so obviously about him and for him, well he turns as red as a tomato, oh his beloved is making him crazier than he already is, he can't wait to take you away from all these people, he will be the only one who gets to hear your lovely voice from then on.
"So my pretty songbird, say farewell to your fans cus this is the last time you'll see them... actually let's just go now, I can barely keep myself from killing them right now"
Shuichi Saihara: He's such a big stalker, he claims it's for your own safety, to protect you against any of your fans if they attack you, it could happen, he has seen it happen before, in reality he is just a creep who enjoys watching you every single second of every day.
Shuichi probably knows about the song before it is even released, he has installed so many cameras in your home that there is no way he couldn't see you write the song, he is very flattered, he even cries knowing you care about him so much, he has recorded each time you practice the song, he feels like an angel is singing to him, it's an addiction and he will never stop.
"I hope it goes well out there on scene, you sounded great practicing... H-how did I know you ask?... Uhm, see you later"

The Revenge Of Two Hands One Mouth - O2 Academy Bristol (November 27, 2013) by Adam Gasson
After 11 years of not finding a single photo from this show, I found these yesterday! I can not begin to express what this means to me, I nearly cried and I couldn't sleep last night. I was still a rather new fan and this was my first time going to a show in the UK, the first show I went to see with a friend, and my first time meeting that friend, too. And these above photos are SO GOOD! Not much was preserved from this show at all, there was no recording allowed (no charcoal drawings either), and to my knowledge not even the full setlist for this specific show was preserved anywhere. So better late than never, but here's what I remember (with some help from these photos!) and the things I've puzzled back together:
If there was opening music or an opening act, i don't recall, but Russell entered the stage alone. It was dramatic and impactful, and it went quiet as he gave an intense stare into the audience and did a drawn out "ahhh" into the microphone. After a little moment of quiet, it turned out the microphone had been connected to a sequencer which now started repeating "ah ah ah ah ah ah". Suspense, excitement. Russell added: "Hold, hold, hold, hold". (...I was definitely freaking out.) While that started looping on top of the ah ah ah sequence, he made stop signs with his hand as we all listened. A few repeats passed. "I'm getting mixed signals, mixed signals - mixed, mixed, mixed signals".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ the only seconds of this show I recorded as I didn't yet know it wasn't allowed - security signed at me and I put the camera away. It was fine. (Here's a recording of it made during the US tour.)
I don't recall when Ron entered the stage at this show, whether it was during the song or after, but what a way to open! And what an amazing song choice!
The performance that left the biggest impression on me at this show though was Nicotina. It was a choice I didn't see coming, but also the way Russell sang it! Falsetto heaven. (Sadly not a single video is to be found of Nicotina from this tour. But for your falsetto heaven needs, I hope you can find a video of Here In Heaven that they also performed on this tour, because that will also kill you.)
As everyone here probably knows I am quite big on Bergman, which at the time was heavily promoted during the tours, and, the excerpts they played on this tour were different from what they played during Two Hands One Mouth! They played "I Am Ingmar Bergman", The Studio Commissary (my favourite song on Bergman), Limo Driver (but sang by Russell, and HOW!) and "Oh My God". (Here's a video of it from one of the American shows. It's extremely good. People who've been around for a while have seen me lose it over this video many times.)
The most unexpected song choice was probably Katherine Hepburn. Me and my friend had been joking for absolute months that we were going to see Sparks and they'd play Katherine Hepburn (as if that would ever happen, we were obsessed with that song though!). And here we were, and they were playing Katherine Hepburn right in front of our eyes. (What is reality.)
Falling In Love With Myself Again had me losing it over the organ sounds, always a fan of Ron on organ, and I LOVE that song. Russell sang a line in my direction (I died), and he managed to throw another line at me during Those Mysteries ...I died a few times that night. As you might expect. That was kind of the whole THOM/TROTHOM experience anyway. Lots of dying. But the variety of dying where you end up in heaven. (You're at a Sparks show after all.)
They wrote a song especially for this tour, which was not released but only ever played live: Revenge Of Two Hands One Mouth. What a thing to experience! A very dark song, but wonderful. (REVENGE! REVENGE REVENGE!)
At the end of the show Ron took a photo of Russell with the audience. I don't really remember that happening, but the photo exists and it really was not a thing they did often back then. We had been a good audience :)
Tumblr media
Here's all the songs that were probably played that night in random order:
Your Call's Very Important To Us. Please Hold., B.C., Good Morning, Here In Heaven, Academy Award Performance, Those Mysteries, Falling In Love With Myself Again, Big Boy, Nicotina, Popularity, This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us, excerpts from The Seduction Of Ingmar Bergman, Tryouts For The Human Race, Katherine Hepburn, Revenge Of Two Hands One Mouth. They likely also played The Number One Song in Heaven, When Do I Get To Sing 'My Way' and Suburban Homeboy. (I see mentions of How Are You Getting Home? and How Do I Get To Carnegie Hall? in setlists for this tour as well, which they very well might have played but I very sadly have zero memory of ever hearing those songs live.)
This tour had a real air of mystery, possibly even more so than Two Hands One Mouth, as the lack of existing footage definitely adds to it. But luckily some of it *is* out there, and I am so grateful for these photos :) On top of the songs I especially mentioned above, I would also advise people to look for recordings of Tryouts For The Human Race and Popularity from this tour, because the arrangements are probably not going to be the way you expect them to be. And as you might expect: B.C. is stunning live. (I could start a whole rant about Good Morning and Suburban Homeboy live but I think I sufficiently screamed about both in my personal notes on THOM the year prior.) Final note: I know Russell had some sort of dance move for Big Boy because me and another friend couldn't stop talking about it for months. I don't remember what he did, but both THOM and TROTHOM were wonderful for Russell dances <3

Sparkstember Day 21: Exotic Creatures Of The Deep (Strange Animal)
Tumblr media
Some of you might already have some idea of how absolutely abnormal I am about this album and have been for several months, without fail. It's... perfect? And you know that personal relevance will also often be a total game changer in deciding what your ultimate favourites are and such. It's personal relevance of my own doing anyway, if I can call it that, you know those memes that go something like "it's MY mental breakdown and *I* chose the soundtrack!!". Oh yeah, that's what happened here. But even that aside I might never get over how much ECOTD is EVERYTHING I might want from an album and it has not lost its power with passing time even one bit. I'm wary to call anything a number one definitive favourite most of the time, but if I really had to choose... yeah, this is my favourite album of all time, there's absolutely no denying that.
Where do I even start with this... Well, coming back a bit to the LB - HYL - ECOTD series as a whole, I love how all three of them have so much in common and each one is some sort of natural development on the previous one, keeping its core elements but also adding new ones that are unique to the new album. And I guess the style of ECOTD is the one that ended up speaking to me the most. Toning it down a bit on the repetition aspect, adding more fancy synths, heavy drums, more guitar-based stuff continuing from HYL... And its still edgier and more electronic and darker and theatrical than the previous ones. Maybe I could even call it straight up COOL sounding (at least at times) in a way that the previous ones aren't (or not quite as much). (And that's not to say that they're all not icredibly cool in their own way anyway, but, you know.) None of these three are definitely better than the others for me by the way, but. Still, love the whole evolution here a lot.
And now, of course, a word on the craziest and most ambitious idea of the century, the 21×21 shows. I spent about a month, if not more, earlier this year going through what I'm quite sure must be the majority of what's been recorded from these shows, and I have no regrets. And yeah, one of the most impressive feats in the history of music, playing 21 albums in full day after day, but also can we please talk about the visualisations they put there to go with the albums. Catching glimpses of those album covers being comically stretched or rotated and such was a very important part of the whole experience. But yeah, Sparks Spectacular, it really is so spectacular.
I actually do have specific favourites on this album rather than being obsessed with it all the same amount, but I think it deserves special treatment just like Lil' Beethoven, so, let's go, going over all of them now. And I think it's better to just dive straight into them now anyway, in order to get a better hang of this whole album and why it's so brilliant and special to me.
Intro + Intro Reprise
I love you leitmotifs that reappear throughout the album and tie it all together. Such a good touch on what is imo the most cinematic of Sparks albums
Good Morning
This happened a couple of times to me with Sparks, when I first hear a song and I'm quite intrigued and delighted but that's mostly it. And then I hear it once more after a while and I'm never the same again from that point on. THIS!!!!!! SONG!!!!! I was so right that I would love all of ECOTD even more than anything before it based just on this. This is the Russell falsetto album by the way, that's important to note. I'm very impressed by this song in many ways. I like that it starts with this specific synth sound that's VERY characteristic of this whole album. And the fake ending... This song has LB and HYL all over it but it's also its own beautiful thing
Strange Animal
This song has an effect of "stopping in my tracks the moment I hear the first note" on me to be honest, another one of my forever and biggest favourites. Right up there with all the other rocking epics to the likes of Ugly Guys With Beautiful Girls, Dick Around and As I Sit Down To Play The Organ. Sparks going meta on music & being a musician is also always very cool to see
I Can't Believe That You Would Fall For All The Crap In This Song
My first impression of what would become my most listened to Sparks song was a "wait, this was supposed to be a Sparks-only playlist, am I still listening to Sparks??" But a couple more months passed and what can I say, I'm obsessed now (and have been for over half a year now). The Maels saying "fuck you" to love songs & pop songs cliches will always be one of my favourite things about them... While they're also actively alluding to and using those cliches to create something very effective. I'm sure that it being so similar to the type of electro pop songs that were getting lots of radio play in the late 00s is why I'm so drawn to the sound here. It's always all about that nostalgia effect, huh (and this album is the absolute PEAK of "oh god why are all these songs so nostalgic to me I've only known them for this relatively short amount of time")
Let The Monkey Drive
This song ends what is probably my favourite 4 consecutive songs run on any album ever. Each is so mindblowing but in a different way. Best thing about this song to me is its atmopshere. It's just SO tangible. Like, this IS driving past the speed limit on a highway in the middle of the night (we can ignore the rest of what's happening in the story here for a moment). Obsessed with Russell's voice here and also it's so great to me how such a minimalistic approach can be so effective in creating this whole very specific mental image. Just unsettling strings in the back and two notes (or repeating chords) on the piano that are sort of the most prominent "melody" here and that's all you need. The suspense, the understatedness of it all, I love it
I've Never Been High
One of the most Sparks-like of Sparks songs in a way? And another one where I could probably start coming up with lyrical interpretations for on the spot. Lots to think about regarding all of these songs to be honest. And I like how the rising piano notes at the end lead into the descending flute (?) melody at the start of the next song
(She Got Me) Pregnant
Honestly, I absolutely love this song, it's one of my favourites on the album, maybe top five material. And it somehow sounds exactly like how I could have imagined it to sound, based on just its premise, I don't really know how that works but it does, lmao. And who else would give you this sort of song if not Sparks, no one
Lighten Up, Morrissey
Glam rock bliss that does not clash with the rest of the album despite being pretty stylistically different from the rest of it. Quite saddening that it's the only song here that has a music video, when there's SO MUCH potential here, seriously, again, this whole album is so cinematic. I do quite like what we got here though, love this era of Sparks ALSO when it comes to the visual side of it all (I keep saying this over and over), but still, there's so much more we could have had, y'know
This Is The Renaissance
GOOD GOD, I LOVE THIS ONE, in love with it from the first listen. It's everything that makes this album so grand and one-of-a-kind in a nutshell. Among the top 10 Sparks songs that should have had a music video also. I have a pretty elaborate painting idea based on this song in mind, so I hope I'll be able to make it into reality at some point in the future
The Director Never Yelled 'Cut'
List of Sparks songs where movie-directing is used as an allegory of sex is somehow at least two songs long I've noticed (this + Love Scenes). Anyway, this one's a pretty heavy one to unpack so I don't think I can really do it justice today. Love it just like every other song on here though
Photoshop
Another one that could have had such a killer music video. Again, stripped-down arrangement that's just enough to hit you with the right amount of feels and overall one of the most killer Ron piano master moments overall, now that I think about it. The plea of "photoshop me out of your life" sounds pretty... on-the-nose out of context? But again, Sparks magic makes it work anyway! And the 21×21 performance is in my top 10 Sparks live moments of all time (I don't actually have a list like this but, maybe I should make it now)
Likeable
...This is the song of all time to me. Honestly, give me any song pondering the nature of what it means to love vs what it means to like someone and things of such nature and you have me hooked forever. But even that aside, musically speaking, it's just... perfection. Most cinematic Sparks song overall maybe, it's really just like a little movie, every moment is so perfectly timed and measured, I have no words honestly, for just, how incredible it all is. The melodic aspect now, it makes me so emotional, one of the most likely of Sparks song to make me cry, for real. I could start going over every different part of the song now but honestly, they're all just, equally amazing. Special shoutout to the waltz parts though, and the bridge. Oooohhh the bridge, when it all gets so intense, and then the main melody reappears with an acoustic guitar, it's just, peak of it all. And then the intro leitmotif comes back again and it's just?!?.?? My feelings on this song might even still not be fully comprehensible and clear to me. All in all, couldn't imagine a better album closer than this, hands down. And this song also closing the Sparks Spectacular series of shows, yeah (not counting the encore). Oh man. Oh maaannnnn. What a freaking ride.

“Be Careful” | Angst, Hurt/No Comfort, Hurt/Some Comfort
TW: mentions of HIV/AIDS and character death
This is a Steddie/Stranger Things & Falsettos musical crossover! This short fic does not necessarily match real time in either show.
Wayne Munson led a simple, quiet life. He was never really one for all the hustle and bustle of big city life that his best friend wanted growing up.
Whizzer was obsessed with getting out of Hawkins. It was all he talked about.
“I’m too good for this town, Wayne. I know I am. You are, too. You could go with me, to New York. Where we can be open, find guys that will actually love us, instead of wanting quickies in bathrooms. I want to finally be happy,” Whizzer had said.
“My whole life is right here, Whizz. I can’t just leave. My brother, he’s got a girlfriend who’s pregnant. He’s not gonna be there for the kid, and she’s gonna need help. I can’t just leave. I can’t just let that kid grow up without help,” Wayne had argued. They were in their 20s around this time. The perfect age to just get out.
But Wayne couldn’t bring himself to do it.
So, Whizzer left. He went to New York, found a guy. He kept Wayne updated, told him all about the man’s kid and how wicked smart he was.
“He’s so sweet, Wayne. Eddie would love him. They could play together, if you ever came to visit,” Whizzer had said over the phone one day. It had been 6 years since Whizzer left.
Wayne had gotten custody of 5 year old Eddie a couple months prior.
“You could always come back with Marvin. I can’t just pick Eddie up and leave to New York. That city is no place for a youngin’ like him.” Wayne made an excuse. He was just too scared to leave Hawkins, really. He didn’t like that much change.
“You know I can’t come back to Hawkins, Wayne. I just…can’t.” Whizzer relented, his hurt emotions panging Wayne right in the heart through the receiver of the phone.
“I know, Whizz. Just…be careful, alright? I’m hearin’ some things about shit going around. Don’t get sick. Love you, bud.” He warned before hanging up with a soft affirmation of love for the boy. He’d always quietly loved Whizzer, the boy who was loud and unafraid to be himself. Wayne always felt too small, too afraid to love Whizzer as loud as he deserved to be. So Whizzer never knew.
Eddie grew up hearing stories and watching Wayne talk to “Uncle Whizzer”, the sweet boy his uncle once knew who ran off to New York to chase his dreams of love and passion. He would hear about him every day, about Jason, the little boy two years older than him. About Marvin, his stubborn and bitter lover. They had broken up for 2 years, but gotten back together after getting over their bullshit.
Wayne slowly got more and more bitter talking to Whizzer on the phone. The more Wayne heard about Marvin, the tighter he’d grip his coffee cup in the morning as Eddie got himself ready and watched him from the counter eating a cold bagel.
Until one day, when the calls just stopped. They just…stopped happening. Wayne shut Eddie own every time he asked about “Uncle Whizzer”.
9 years later, Wayne came home to hearing giggling and seeing shuffling in the living room. He hopped out of his truck and walked up to the door, making sure his keys jingled in the lock as he entered.
He half expected Eddie to be cuddled up with some girl, so he mentally prepared himself to make the “use protection, not on the couch, I’m always here if you need anything” talk.
To Wayne’s surprise, he walked into the trailer see his Eddie under another boy, their lips connected and hands wandering to places they definitely shouldn’t be. He felt his heart thump, his stomach twist, and his eyes prick with tears.
Not his boy. Not his Eddie. He walked right out the door he came through, slamming it shut. He heard curses, something knock over, followed by the calling of his name from inside the trailer.
“Wayne, we weren’t— I’m sorry, please come back in. We’re decent, it’s fine. Let me talk to you,” Eddie pleaded through the door.
Wayne huffed and managed to go back inside, meeting Eddie’s eyes with a firmness he didn’t usually have.
“Eddie, I need you to know I’ve got no problem with this. Just…I didn’t think I’d have to give you this talk so soon.” He sighed, his hands being shoved into his pockets. Eddie and Steve audibly groaned, moving to sit down.
“We were being safe, Mr. Munson, honest.” Steve reassures, hands coming down to anxiously rub at his knees.
“That’s just the thing, son. I just…you have to make sure this is what you want. Sex is…dangerous for you boys. Anything could go wrong at any time. A rubber could break, one of you could get cut, anything could happen. You have to be careful.” Wayne explained, avoiding saying the word. It hurt too much. That was when Eddie said it, so casually. So…desensitized.
“God, Wayne, we know about AIDS. We’ve been exposed to it almost our whole lives. We know how to avoid it.” Eddie groaned tiredly, not wanting the disease explained to him by another adult who was worried about him.
“Eddie. I know you know. But you’re not hearing me. You have to be careful. I don’t want to lose you like I lost your Uncle Whizzer,” he admitted, his eyes falling to his lap.
“Uncle who?” Steve asked, but Eddie didn’t respond.
Oh, god. He remembered. He remembered the day like it was yesterday. The clattering sound of the phone hitting the wall when Wayne dropped it. Remembered hearing his sobbing. Remembered seeing Wayne crumpled on the floor, hitting the floor with one fist and clutching his shirt over his heart with the other, like it was shattering and he was trying to hold it together.
Wayne had never cried that loud, that hard ever in front of Eddie.
“Oh, shit. That’s why he stopped calling?” Eddie asked, his voice breaking as Wayne gave a solemn nod. “And…Whizzer’s boyfriend?” He asked. Wayne sniffled and shook his head, watching as Eddie inhaled sharply and let out a sob.
“God…Wayne. I’m so sorry. We’ll be more careful. You won’t lose me. I won’t let you lose anyone else.” Eddie promised, leaning forward and grabbing Wayne’s hands.
The older man looked at Eddie with tear-filled eyes and gave an affirming nod, getting up and kissing Eddie’s temple.
They never talked about that night again.
Over the years, Wayne watched their love grow. Witnessed them get too intimate to stay in that little trailer with Wayne. Soon enough, Hawkins became too little for their big “six little nuggets” plan. They agreed to move to New York. A more accepting place, where they could easily find others like them.
Helping them move into their city apartment, it was here that Wayne got a chance to visit Whizzer for the first time in years, and meet Marvin.
He entered the cemetery on a Thursday afternoon, sniffling upon seeing two faded chess pieces on their headstones. Jason loved chess, Whizzer had said years ago. This must have been his doing.
He knew now that this was the perfect place for his Whizzer all along. Hawkins wasn’t enough. It wasn’t Wayne. It was the place. He should have gone with him, but he was just too scared. He fell to his knees, touching the headstone of his friend, his first love.
“Hey, Whizz. It’s Wayne. I’m here. I made it to visit. I’m sorry I’m so late. It’s about time, huh? God, I love ya. I love ya more than anything, Whizzer Brown.” He murmured to the grave, breaking the silence in the air.
Within a second, he felt the wind brush his cheek. It wasn’t a normal gust. It lingered and felt almost like slender, soft fingers brushing the skin. He noticed a leaf fall on the grass in front of Whizzer’s grave, watched it twitch as the wind tried to pull it free from the grass.
It was then that he knew Steve and Eddie would be safe here. Whizzer and Marvin would watch over them.
His boys belonged here. They’d have two strong gusts of wind pushing them along, keeping them together.
He was sure of it.

OK so. I like the Beatles in a very my grandpa used to listen to them way. but I find the sheer amount of stuff they have out intimidating to get through? so I got my few super well known faves (let it be, Eleanor rigby, etc) and don't know much besides that. threforrrre, can you drop your top 15 maybe? if you can/want to!!
anon you have no idea the monster you have just unleashed.
okay so i’m incredibly indecisive so i couldn’t pare it down to just fifteen. so i have ten from what i would deem their early period (1963-early 1965) and eighteen from their later stuff (late 1965-1970). which is more than you asked for but also way smaller than their 200+ song catalogue. i tried to keep all of the ones on this list not their biggest hits that everyone know through cultural osmosis. but i will make a smaller list underneath each of their bigger hits that i really love.
early stuff
this boy (single): just a really good doo-wop ballad
all my loving (with the beatles): an absolute banger. the guitars on this drive me insane. would be remiss not to mention the alex turner/arctic monkeys cover
hold me tight (with the beatles): this sounds like if you bottled late 50s/early 60s pop it’s so good. the harmonies in the you you you’s are 🤌🤌🤌
if i fell (a hard day’s night): love songs of all time. the rising and falling harmony lines. the absolute mclennon of it all.
and i love her (a hard day’s night): i love you paul ballads i love you paul ballads i love you.
baby’s in black (beatles for sale): i am obsessed with the guitar sound on this. also literally having a song saying “girl please stop mourning you dead boyfriend i am PINING for you.” hilarious. they were awful 💞
you’ve got to hide your love away (help!): john doing his best bob dylan pastiche except it sounds better than anything bob dylan has ever written and john lennon can actually sing. possibly my favorite john lennon vocal performance of all time.
ticket to ride (help!): literally i’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell. the outro is also legendary to meee.
we can work it out (single): my toxic trait is i really would listen to a whole album of paul mansplaining things to me. not arguing with a girl with big brown baby cow eyes whatever you say beautiful.
i’ve just seen a face (help!): i love you paul’s folk era. i love you bluegrass guitars.
honorable mentions to: i saw her standing there, please please me (off the album of the same name), twist and shout (please please me), she loves you (single), i want to hold your hand (single), help! (help!) , and literally one of my favorite songs of all time yesterday (help!)
later stuff
norwegian wood (this bird has flown) (rubber soul). the first beatles song to feature the sitar. an absolute banger.
girl (rubber soul). the inhale john does in the chorus. the pizzicato bridge/middle eight. 😍😍😍
in my life (rubber soul). literally one of my favorite songs ever written.
here, there, and everywhere (revolver): paul falsetto…the paulsetto if you will.
i want to tell you (revolver): george i’m sorry it took this long for one of your songs to show up here.
tomorrow never knows (revolver): their experimental era!!!!!!! also best know for the absolute insane needle drop in mad men.
strawberry fields forever/penny lane (singles first then magical mystery tour): the double a-side singles both written on the same theme. these songs make me feel like i’m coming unzipped.
with a little help from my friends (sgt. pepper) hiiii ringo sorry this is your only appearance on this list. i still love you yellow submarine and octopus’s garden
a day in the life (sgt. pepper): i can’t even write pithy commentary this song just fucks.
blue jay way (magical mystery tour): magical mystery tour is arguably their most psychedelic album and this song leans into that really heavily.
dear prudence (the beatles self-titled aka the white album): the build up on this one is insane.
while my guitar gently weeps (the white album): i despise eric clapton but unfortunately the man can play guitar. also paul’s piano part in the intro🥰🥰🥰
blackbird (the white album): this song has over 1000 plays on my old itunes. shout out to the beyoncé cover on cowboy carter
come together (abbey road): banger. next question.
something (abbey road): the bass. the drums. the guitars. 😭😭😭
the abbey road medley (abbey road): so this is just most of the second half of abbey road. the songs you never give me your money, sun king, mean mr. mustard, polythene pam, she came in through the bathroom window, golden slumbers, carry that weight, and the end are all one big song. can’t even speak about it it makes me feel certifiable.
two of us (let it be): catjam dot gif
get back (let it be): i love you paul’s kermit voice
honorable mention: eleanor rigby (revolver), lucy in the sky with diamonds (sgt. pepper), all you need is love (magical mystery tour), hey jude (single), here comes the sun (abbey road), across the universe (let it be)
additional information to keep in mind if you want to listen to more
a great place to start is also the red and blue compilations, which are basically a greatest hits compilation that recently got remixed and sound amazing.
If you listen to those and want to start listening through albums and not just do it chronologically my personal favorite are abbey road, rubber soul, and sgt. pepper. followed by magical mystery tour, the white album, and help!.
they have thirteen studio albums and a compilation album of non-album singles called past masters. there’s a chronological list of when the singles came out in comparison the the albums here
if you have anymore questions/want anymore recommendations pls feel free to reach out!!! i hope you find new bops 💖💖💖
*also i left my personal favorite beatles song off the list (she’s leaving home from sgt. pepper’s) because it’s one of the songs in their discography that’s super divisive but i couldn’t not mention my girl.

I wish that Liam falsetto compilation included his falsetto harmonies from the acoustic version of One Thing! Tbh I vastly prefer the acoustic version of One Thing solely because of Liam’s falsetto harmonies throughout (first with Niall, then Louis, and then together with Niall, Zayn and Harry), it just elevates the entire song. especially when he harmonizes with Louis during the verse “cause I’m dying just to know your name,” istg hearing this part is like an instant serotonin boost for me every single time, it’s literally for just four seconds of the song, but it’s like the audio equivalent of the clouds parting and the heavens shining through lol, idk how else to explain the feeling, his voice is just so angelic and adds so much.
Also Little Things ofc and the acoustic performances of More Than This (the version the band used to do for radio stations back in the day, like for Radio Disney) Liam’s falsetto when he harmonizes with Zayn and Niall during those songs is ethereal! (Not falsetto, but since it can also be heard during the acoustic Radio Disney performance of More Than This, there is a note change Liam does for the verse “it just won’t feel right” that I will forever be obsessed with. I loved whenever Liam would do that note change, as well as note changes for live performances of other songs so so much, usually sounding even better than the official recorded versions!)
I’ve been binge watching a lot of their live performances lately, and it’s just insane how undeniable it is, how absolutely essential Liam’s voice is to their performances. I think for people to not see how important Liam’s vocal abilities were, especially during live performances, then in my opinion those people really had to have been making an active effort to ignore him (which unfortunately it looks like this was a common pattern with sections of the 1D fandom even since the beginning of the band, ignoring Liam and rarely giving him credit where it’s due, and to this day I still don’t understand why he was mistreated this way). Liam fr was almost always the main one providing support to the other boys, moving seamlessly between low and high harmonies (that huge vocal range tho!!) blending perfectly with the other boys’ voices, often right after or right before his own solos parts, which he would nail perfectly too, always so consistent (unless he was distracted by water fights and/or laughing about something, usually because of Louis lol). truly a vocal acrobat, he always made it all look so effortless.
This whole ask is so precious to me. I agree with everything you said, I hope I had some mad editing skills that would let me make some kind of audio oost combining all the performances you are talking about here.
Liam's range was undeniably unmatched by anyone else in the band. I remember that post which listed him as one of the best vocalists, along with Zayn, but even Zayn was praised more for his high notes while Liam made his mark throughout the range. I also remember that Zane Lowe interview where he said he believed Liam was the only one who could make it as a solo artist. He had tremendous talent, and I just- his potential remained untapped and that's one thing I will never be able to come to terms with. And that post where Liam's mic stopped working and everyone fumbled embarrassingly- that one always makes me laugh.
He gave so much, did so much, and people never appreciated him. I almost wish there is a reunion, and people get to see exactly what Liam brought to the band, because frankly speaking, there are some people who need that reality check desperately.
Thank you for sending this, truly. I love talking about Liam and his talent.

Hey do you mind not posting about Falsettos as much? I don’t want to be that guy but it’s a little bit insensitive. We’re mutuals and it’s stated pretty clearly in my carrd that Falsettos is a touchy subject for me, given that I miss my friend who was obsessed with Falsettos every single day of my life. He’s not dead by the way…I’m not traumadumping in your inbox. It’s just that my bitch ex-friend sent me Consideration as revenge for writing a callout post about them. And like, come on, I can’t believe they expected me NOT to write a callout post after I found out they write weird Mendel smut fanfic. That’s so fucked up. Mendel would never have sex with dirt. He loves Trina too much. Anyway…please just stop posting about Falsettos. I’m crying just thinking about my evil ex-friend. I’m so upset. I’m gonna go write another callout post to soothe my nerves. FUCK you Holly.
these are the things i want on my inbox keep it up

Introducing: Branch
Lived underground to get away from the world 'Til I had my life changed by a beautiful girl
Tumblr media
WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Trolls, Trolls: World Tour, and Trolls: Band Together, as well as Trolls: The Beat Goes On!
Branch (formally known as Bitty B) was once the youngest member of the hottest band in the Troll Tree, BroZone. With his iconic sunglasses and falsetto made of gold, Branch and his brothers John Dory, Floyd, Clay and Spruce made themselves well known with several records under their belt, until one night during a performance, John Dory was so obsessed with the idea of hitting the Perfect Family Harmony that things fell apart...quite literally. The brothers went their separate ways, leaving little Branch to be raised by his grandmother, until Rosiepuff died to save Branch from being eaten by a Burgen shortly before the Trolls escaped the Troll Tree in Bergen Town. Due to this massive upheaval, no one really noticed that Branch was by himself.
As a result of Rosiepuff's death, Branch became a depressed, paranoid recluse, losing his vibrant colors and turning a flat gray. He spent many years building the hide out that he and Floyd had been planning together, instead turning it into a reinforced bunker, stocking it with enough food and water to last him a decade or more. He started tinkering with experiments, all in the name of self preservation, resulting in his love for rules, regulation and safety. The other Trolls, despite caring for him, began to see Branch as a bit of an outsider; he never sang, never danced, hated Hug Time and his gray appearance was off putting. It also did not help that he often had a terrible and sarcastic attitude.
The one Troll that Branch could not seem to stand was Princess Poppy, the daughter of King Peppy. She was everything he wasn't; effortlessly charming, sweet, kind and always in a bright, upbeat mood. She was always inviting him to parties, and he always refused, but secretly held onto every invitation, hiding them away in a cubby within his bunker; as time went on, Poppy's endearing kindness thawed Branch, just a little. He definitely developed a crush on her by the time they were teenagers.
It all came to a head when, twenty years after the escape from the Troll Tree, the Trolls were found by Chef, a vengeful Bergen who's specialty was cooking Trolls for Trollstice, all because of Poppy's wild anniversary party. When Poppy came to Branch for help, Branch simply told her she was an idiot and tried to make her leave; she responded by having all of the Trolls break into Branch's bunker before setting off to rescue their kidnapped friends, and Branch finally escaped his bunker by the third Hug Time because he couldn't handle the stress.
The adventure that followed was just as stressful, starting a rivalry with Cloud Guy and almost getting eaten by Bergens; but Branch regained his True Colors during the journey, and Poppy was able to make peace with the Bergens so that Trollstice was no longer something they needed to feel happy.
The next adventure was stopping the Rock Apocalypse set off by Queen Barb of the Rock Trolls, who wanted to unite all of the Troll Kingdoms under one music genre. Poppy was able to save everyone by destroying their Strings, and reminding them that music was inside their hearts, saving them all, before heading home and trying to adjust to the new normal.
When King Gristle and Bridget, Poppy's best friend, were getting married, John Dory came back into Branch's life to ask for help in saving Floyd, who was being held captive by some wanna be fame leechers; despite Branch's reluctance, he agreed to help, first in tracking down Clay and Spruce, now renamed Bruce, before going to Mount Rageous to save Floyd from certain death. With BroZone finally reunited, Branch has hope that maybe the family he felt so rejected by can heal together.
My Branch is also taking inspiration from Trolls: The Beat Goes On. He's become less of a paranoid recluse and more of a rule loving fanatic; while he's struggling to come out of his shell more often, Poppy and their friends are there to catch him if he falls, and he appreciates that more than words can say... but don't tell Poppy. He's got a reputation to uphold, after all.

Ayyyyyyyyyyyyy thank u so much for the tag @loyle-trash !!!!!! U have such great taste, i esp loved I Wish I Was Your Cigarette by K.I.D. It's such a specific mood, i know for SURE i wouldve eaten that shit UP when i was all up in my feelings abt this fucking guy last summer. Such a vibe, such a moment in time.
Speaking of moments in time.....
Clover's Top 10 Songs of Right Now
#1: HOT TO GO! - Chappell Roan
If I could stop singing the chorus and doing the YMCA-ass dance while I do it that would b incredible for my sanity, self image, and professional reputation. Unfortunately.....
Tumblr media
#2: Internet Killed the Video Star- The Limousines
Absolutely love this song. It's not a parody of the og Buggels song we all know and love- it's an evolution of it. There's connective tissue, one similar vocal riff, certain moments that make u go oh yea i know it, but it really does feel like an updated reimagined homage- exactly what the song is all about. It's a sequel to a song written in 1979, grown and reflected in 2011.
Tumblr media
#3: Closing Time - Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen the man that you are....... for real has anyone written a lyric like him. This song is a euphoric swell of grief. And the way it sounds???? Unmatched. Perfection.
Tumblr media
#4: Thank God and Jimmy Buffett - Pitbull
I gotta give some respect to Pitbull for making the same music in 2024 that he did in 2012. And both Pitbull and i have to give some respect to Jimmy Buffett, the margaritaville man, myth, and legend. I was going to see him at a QnA for the movie All That is Sacred at a film festival, but he died the night before. When i found this song i immediately sent it to Jax, my bff and the biggest parrothead i know
Tumblr media
#5: Shiny Is The View - Cosmo Sheldrake
Cosmo Sheldrake's new album absolutely slaps. I describe their sound in a metaphor: imagine in the 70s there was a low budget kids show about a family of bears, played by actors in shaggy mascot suits. This show was later franchised into a theme park, which in the ensuing years went bankrupt and was abandoned. Now decades later, you're an urban explorer walking through this dilapidated park, and happen upon a splash mountain- style log ride. #7: Astrovan - Mt Joy
A friend of mine sang this at karaoke once. The whole room screamed the lyrics. Never felt so connected to a group of people in my life. I miss them, i miss them all.

#8: Despite What You've Been Told - Two Gallants
Heard this song as the weather in night vale. Listened to it obsessively because it reminded me of barney stinson from how i met your mother. The 10 year anniversary of the worst finale of all time just passed, and i started rewatching this show again for the first time since it ended. I was reminded of this song. This song is so tight, so brilliantly worded, so perfectly balanced. If you havent listened since 2014, remind urself.

#10: Daisy, We Got a Good Thing - The Burkharts
This song sounds like the beach boys. I love its peppy smoothness, the harmonies, the little ooooooohs swooping up and down in the background. My favorite little brian wilson-y touch is the falsetto singing behind the chorus. Love this. So summery
