For some reason, I looked up what Nigel meant in the name and in Latin, it meant dark. So I realized that Numbuh one's name literally translates to 'dark one'
Me: For real??
Nigel: Oh God, no.
Me: *goes check it out*
Nigel: Don’t you dare...
Me: Oh?
Nigel: I swear, if you don’t stop now...
Me: HOHOHOHOHOHOH *sinister look on her face*
Nigel: STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!!!
Me: *grabs him* HOHOHOHOHOHOHOH IT’S GONNA BE FUN !!
Nigel: ANON, YOU FOOL !!! LOOK WHAT YOU’VE DONE !
Tumblr media
Dear Anon: Never EVER give me idea for some angst, because I WILL DELIVER IT. Dark one, huh? So Nigel is destined to become evil or some shit, right? >:3
He’s one of my favorite characters, and I still want to see him in pain. Because logic :^)

I know the quote isn’t exactly 100% correct, I changed it to suit my needs.

ya know what i want? a reason why father is evil. now something that justifies him cuz, oh boy not much can even with his bad childhood, but perhaps delve more into why this family man just, ignored his brother and his own nephew for so long? like maybe he blaimes monty, and the knd, for destroying his own family (even if it was a dsyfunctional one), and hence why he hates kids so much- they literally destroyed his life when he was young. or, like, any uno family drama at all really....
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude...........
Tumblr media
Are you a psychic?
Because that is totally what I was thinking !
Great minds think alike!
I know we don't necessarily need to find a reason for Father to hate kids/the KND but I did try to come up with something, a backstory more devolopped for my fanfic.
Basically, yes : Benedict does blame Monty and the KND for "destroying" his family. A) Monty, by reviving the KND, took Ben's chances away to ever get some recognition from his father (even when he does in op zero, I'm wondering, 'was it worth it?' and I don't think so), and B) if you consider my headcanon about them being separated by the child services after Monty's victory, his team only helped him and not his brother : 'let's help Zero, he got rid of the tyran - what about his brother? - why should we? he didn't help us, what good will he be?' Should I mention that in my headcanon Ben actually heard that? And so, the two brothers got separated, one taken away by the child services, the other saved by his KND buddies. I already said in my previous post that Monty SEARCHED EVERYWHERE for Ben, unfortunately without success, during his time in the KND. And you wanna hear the irony I came up with? The 7th age is drastically different from the 6th (that's canon, they didn't even have cars, cf Op CAKE-FIVE), so I'm thinking that Monty insisted to improve 2x4 technology and to establish new sets of rules in order to not lose another kid ever again.
What I'm saying is the Kids Next Door organization wouldn't be the way it is today if their separation never happened.
Grandfather made differences between his sons (which is the worst parent thing to do), clearly showing his preference towards Monty. I also see him using old corporal punishments on his kids, but since he had a favorite, Ben was the one to get all the worst punishments: mistake equals punishments, failure equals punishments, disobedience equals punishments. Ben started to resent his brother for being so goddamn perfect (according to Grandfather of course) because there was nothing that was good enough for his father. Even with this resentment (believe me, by having two sisters, I know what I'm talking about), Ben still couldn't truely hate his brother, being the only person who ever cared for him. But the fact he thought Monty would want to spend more time with the KND and basically being abandoned by his brother (from his point of view, mind you, Monty NEVER quit searching for his little brother) is what increased his resentment into hatred for the KND.
I still headcanon that they do meet again as teenagers, but let's just say that ..... well, things changed. In the end, Ben didn't need ANYONE, he went through all of this ALONE, thinking he was so worthless his brother didn't bother to come for him. He had to grow up fast, but deep down, there's a kid part of him still waiting for his brother. A part he despises so much for reminding him that being a kid sucks: no one takes you seriously, people ignore you, you're weak and defenseless: Ben just doesn't want to feel that hopelessness again. The truth is that Monty was too late. His brother was already taken over by resentment and hatred by the time they meet as teenagers. The gap between them has widened ever since the rebellion and it still getting bigger.
There are people who had crappy childhood and they won't hesitate to make suffer the next generation out of spite, Father is one of them.
I believe Monty was like 11 years old and Ben 8 years old in Op ZERO (and I believe 1st graders are 8 years old), so if you consider my headcanon about Father being behind Nigel's kidnapping, he did it when Nigel was the same age as he was when Zero's rebellion happened. Would he do something that petty? I mean, he seems pretty okay trying to destroy his nephew, so yes, I think he would do something that petty.
In conclusion, Benedict hasn't forgiven Monty for choosing the KND over his own brother and his resentment is what keeps him for any reconciliations between them. He is just avoiding his brother, because a decomissioned Monty isn't really the best person to hang out with, especially when he forgot why they went on their separate ways. Ben doesn't stand that his brother would just "erase" a part of his life as if it never happened. You can't just pretend something didn't happen and just go on with your life that easily!
But of course, all of this is only a headcanon. This is how I see the Uno bros' backstory and it's what I'll use for my fanfic.

I heard a headcanon of Numbuh one having spanish ancestry and I pictured him comforting Eduardo in Spanish.
I suppose it comes from the fact that “uno” means one in spanish, and that american people aren’t that knowledgable about the rest of the world: it is also one in italian, so why not adding italian ancestry to the Uno family?
Tumblr media
I don’t speak spanish, so I won’t trash the language with an auto trad.

Nigel doesn't react to the taste of hot sauce unless he drinks a ton of it. One time he was dared by his friends to drink a whole bottle of it and they were shocked when he chugged it all without screaming in pain.
Oooh, it is like the headcanon of Nigel being immune to brainfreeze? Because of his thermal powers he doesn’t feel spicy things like regular people?
Headcanon accepted!

This page is somewhat a scene in my fan fiction: Nigel’s powers awaken, and he’s really stressing about it, doesn’t want them, he’s been under the pressure of being Numbuh 0’s son (everyone starts to only judge him by that, ‘no wonder Numbuh 1 is so great, he’s the son of Numbuh 0!!!’); also he hasn’t told anyone that he and his dad are related to Grandfather and Father so double pressure; he’s also in a way mad at his dad for choosing to stay decommissioned while it’s clear he wants to spend time with his son, but a decomm!Monty isn’t really the best to hang out with, so Numbuh 1 yells at his dad, being useless or so. You can say stupid things that you don’t really mean when you're angry and that’s basically what happens. So later, this exchange happens ^^^^^. There’s some top tier irony here. So yeah, it’s my favorite headcanon because have you seen the potential of it?
It’s an incorrect quote from Into the Spider-verse (altough I changed it a little) and it might feel familiar because I wanted the last panel to look like this thing.
Monty knows what he’s talking about: in my headcanon (and fanfic), he and his brother Benedict got separated when they were kids by the child services (i don’t know what is the equivalent of them in USA, sorry) because the adults thought that Monty wouldn’t be a good example for his younger brother (which is bullshit, but evil adults, guys!) and well, life happens and they got apart during these years. So yeah, Monty doesn’t want that what happened to him and his bro would happen again with his son. He got his share of angst.

Thank you Anon for reminding me of that tragedy. All I needed today was someone to rub the knife in the wound. I appreciate that.

Oh, I already knew about that one, mostly because the name Benedict is really close to the word ‘bénédiction’, which is French for ‘blessing’.
So yeah, if you take my Headcanon about the Unos being demons/half demons, this is quite ironic :p
(Sorry for taking three thousands years to answer, I always panic when I receive an ask because I don’t know how to properly answer)

Admit it: Warburton did that(Nigel's name) on purpose(possibly for foreshadowing his lineage).
To be honest, it is quite hard to know for sure what Mr. Warburton had in mind since the first season.
Don’t forget the show wasn’t supposed to be a success: I highly doubt he had all of the stories ready from the beginning.
While we can suspect Op: UNDERCOVER as a foreshadow about the DCFDTL as KND operatives, the fact that they don’t turn into animals right away in Op: GRADUATES gave the fans a lot of questions. The answer is simple, plot holes. But to understand in universe, the fan theory is that the delightfulisation changed their DNA.
It’s one of the exemples to explain the show has plot holes, and that not everything was planned from the start. I’m sure Mr. Warburton didn’t think of making Father Nigel’s uncle in Op: GROW-UP. Unless you can find an interview from Mr. W that states he planned all of this, we can’t be sure of anything.
He wouldn’t pull a Gosho on us. Even with all the little details that foreshadow stuff, as long as it’s not confirmed by Words of God, it’s only headcanon.
The coincidence is really funny, tho. Angst fuel all the way!!!!

did grandfather name ben benedict as a diss, since their family has demonic powers so..... naming the kid ya dont like after something more holy is, like mean i guess????? like saying he'd make a shit villain xD
Possible, but since the demonic origin of their powers is only a headcanon, and that Mr. Warburton might have given the names randomly, we can’t be sure.
But honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised, Grandfather is the biggest dick out here.

May I suggest angst song recommendation for the Uno bros? New Divide by Linkin Park
youtube
Why do I feel it’s Ben who’s singing? This song... Wow....
Since we’re into theme songs for the Uno bros, I also listen to Far From Me by Aviators:
youtube
Another song that can fit the bros, is Crossing the Line, from Tangled the animated series. It’s really a great show and oh boy, this song screamed Monty-Benedict energy since the first note. Obviously, Monty is Rapunzel and Benedict is Cassandra:
youtube
I’m listening to that song whenever I think about my headcanon on how they found themselves as teenagers after being separated, but unfortunaly Ben is already done with his brother at this time. WHY DO I HURT MYSELF LIKE THAT???
This time is not a song, but just a theme from a video game, Roxas’ theme Re:Coded 2.5 ReMix version:
youtube
It’s the saddest version of them all, and I always listen to this when I draw or write some Uno bros angsty headcanons.
And somehow, Demons by Imagine Dragons makes me think of the two bros:
youtube
I would probably update this list but for now, I think it’s a good start. You’re free to reblog and add other songs that fit the Uno bros, LET’S MAKE THE ULTIMATE ANGSTY PLAYLIST FOR THEM !!

Do you have any headcanons about Ben and Monty? Silly or angst :3
You asked for this, Anon. Be ready to be stabbed in the heart.
Headcanon about the two bros after Monty's victory.
Before that,  I am convienced that Monty always tried to cheer up Ben whenever he was feeling down (and it was a lot) by saying proverbs he made up, such as this one :"If you're scared in the night, remember: there will awlays be a light that shines through the darkness. It's the moon, and it will always guide you."  And that would be the reason why Monty put Global Command on the Moonbase : "the moon doesn't belong to anyone or any nation of the world: it belongs to all kids who are lost in the night.", because there wasn't any Moonbase before (19th Century was amazed by vehicles flying in space, so no moonbase during the 6th age).
Ok, the main stuff now.It is clear that Grandfather is old, extremely old. After his decomissioning, he becomes so helpless that he can't take care of himself. If he can't take care of himself, how can he take care of his two sons? What do you think happens to kids with no parent to take care of them?
Social services.
I'm going to antagonize them, because why not, and i had a bad experience with them, sooooo ... they're evil adults to me.Basically, they would come (how, i don't know: with Grandfather's influence on the world gone, "normality" would return, as if nothing happened), and see the old man completly useless, and decided to do their job. The old man went to a retirement house, and they would see Monty as a disruptive child, therefore, a bad exemple for his younger brother (which is total bullshit because see below). So they would do the simplest thing in the world : they separated the two brothers from each others (thing that almost happened to me and my sisters, so I know the social services can do that i have the best mom ever).
While the social services are taking them away, Monty's team came to save him first (because he saved them from the factories so naturally they would do the same for him) but didn't go for Ben immediatly, because, you know, he didn't join his brother and they thought he wouldn't be as valuable as Monty for the future of the Kids Next Door. What would a coward do to help them? (they were four, two of them could have helped monty and the other two ben, but for the sake of the angst, let's ignore that). The cars of the social services started to leave (yes, they came in cars) and since it was pretty much right after Zero's revolution, Monty and his team didn't have 2x4 tech vehicles yet to catch up with them. While Monty was freed from the social services' grasp, Ben was taking away from Monty and that destroyed him. As an older brother, it was his duty to take care of him but failed. (bonus thought : that's how their last names are differents, the social services would change Ben's, making sure Monty won't find him, persuaded he wasn't a good influence for his younger brother, and because as evil adults, they're dicks, and that's a dick move in my book)
Monty is the one that always made sure Ben had something to eat, drink and stuff. He was consoling his brother whenever he had a nightmare, healed his wounds and conforted him. He was a better parental figure than Grandfather would ever be. So Monty would actually be really pissed off whenever an adult would tell him he "couldn't be a good exemple for his brother". *BULLSHIT* What do these idiotic adults know about their family? NOTHING.  These strangers came and fuck things up. Let me shoot those people. I hate them.Okay, technically, since Monty was like, 10-11 years old (my guess and headcanon), legally he couldn't have done anything (evil laws made by evil adults, what did you expect?).
Monty would start improving th eKND organization to make sure that what happened to him and his brother would never happen again. Then, Monty would spend all of his free time trying to find his brother, with no big success. He would look down the Earth, wondering where his brother might be, and on his side, Ben looked up the moon remembering his big brother's words about the light in the night.
And i just made myself cry. Literally.
I know the social services act for the best of the child, but sometimes, it doesn't work out well. The kid might be sent to an awful family, or changes places all the time or stuff like that. I may be a little biased on the social services, it's probably due to the fact that they took me and my sisters away from my mom around 2003 (my parents started the divorce, that's why the social services were after us). Yes, you heard it, the lady in charge of our case went to my primary school and took me to a children's home. My mom had no idea and she FREAKED OUT. I was lucky she fought like a lioness to get our custody back, but unfortunately, not every kid is that lucky.
I also know that it's not because Father had a crappy childhood that it excuses his actions in his adult life. NO. That doesn't give him (or anyone else for that matters) the right to make others suffer. But hey: he didn't really have a better adult model, so maybe he unconscioulsy thinks that's how things are supposed to work (i wanna punch the shit out of him, but i would hug and protect his child self with all my might).
Also, if i had to choose a music theme for the uno bros, it's definitely Roxas' theme of Kingdom Hearts. Always listening to it while i draw them.
I had trouble writing this down,  because it gives me the feels by just thinking about it (and roxas' theme doesn't help).

Dose Father have any mental issues
Though question, I’m no expert, so I had a hard time coming up with an answer.
Father definitely has anger issues, I don’t need to give exemples, it’s quite obvious.
But I ain’t making this post with just that.
I headcanon that he also has an obsession with perfection.
Grandfather would always put Monty on a pedestal no matter what, being his favorite and all. Benedict, being outshined by his brother all the time, would try his best to get his father’s attention and approval (of course it never worked). So basically, he would understand that mistakes equal punishment, failures equal punishment, disobedience equals punishment. And Grandfather would punish Ben harsher than Monty.
So the idea of being perfect to please his father and surpassing Monty became a real obsession. He even brags about how ‘’perfect’’ his children are in op zero. My kids are better than yours HAH!
