Crunchy grass

This morning I stumbled out into the gray light of dawn for the Morning Dog Walk, to find that we had had the first frost. As I walked through the pasture I was surrounded by thousands of aster flowers edged in tiny ice crystals, and long grass in elegant, frozen waves. Hero looked long-suffering (My breakfast is FROZEN, whhhhyyyyyyy)

We had the first fire in the woodstove Friday night, and the muted sound of crackling and popping is a welcome white noise. Tomorrow the leaves will be showing a lot more color, and fall will be truly underway. Time to bake something cinnamon-y.

Throw back Thursday! The end result of a blessed sunflower growing season. After picking the heads, they spent a few days (ok, one or two may have spent a couple weeks!!) drying out by the dehumidifier before stripping the seed kernels from the seed heads. These are gonna be so fun and yummy this winter! Spits, here we come!
